No attack on the Beacon shall go unchallenged.

Info-scan identifies the ship as belonging to...

the Defenders of the Earth.

- All has proceeded according to plan, Mighty Ming.

The Beacon of the Eternals has declared w*r

upon the Defenders of the Earth.

- I succeeded in fooling the Beacon's master computer

into believing it was Flash Gordon's ship

that attacked them.

- Can you be certain the Beacon has the power

to destroy the Defenders in battle, sire?

- Behold, Octon...

- Come on, you dumb robot! I'm not afraid of you!

[yells]

[robot whirs]

- Wait a minute. - Look out, Kshin!

[all cheering]

- Well done, Kshin.

- Awesome! [Kisa roars and snarls]

- What's Kisa up to?

[laughter]

- I should have known. - Very clever, wise guy!

[both laugh]

- I hate to break up your little party,

but the Defenders' space station is under attack.

- Who could it be, Dad?

- I don't know, son, but we'll soon find out.

You've got to get through.

- Unable to communicate with Defender space station.

All signals jammed.

- I'll bet anything Ming's behind this, Dad.

- Of all the times for Mandrake, Lothar,

and the Phantom to be in New York.

- I hear ya.

- Wow. What hit this place?

- Keep your eyes open, kids.

Whoever did this may still be in the area.

- Take it easy, Zuff.

I--I don't see anything to be scared of...yet.

- I don't like this. It's too quiet.

Anyone inside the space station, Dynak?

- Station's computer still jammed.

- Only one thing to do.

You kids stay put but be ready to move when I give the word.

- Flash knows what he's doing, Rick.

He's playing a little cat and mouse

with our unwanted visitors.

- Dad's trying to lure 'em out of hiding

using himself as bait.

- Uh-oh, it looks like we're the bait.

- Look at those guys!

I've never seen anything like them.

- And they're headed right for us.

- No wonder Dad said be ready when he gives the word.

Kids, let's give these jokers a warm Defenders' welcome.

- Uh-oh.

That's what I call a quick recovery.

Dynak, give me a reading on these guys.

Hey, you guys really play rough.

Who are you?

- Guardian robots from the Beacon of the Eternals,

the most powerful form of robot

in the known universe.

- Guardians, of course!

But why would the robot guards want to battle with us?

They only fight enemies of the Beacon.

L.J., you head for New York

and pick up your dad, Mandrake, and the Phantom.

- Sure thing, Flash. We're on our way.

- You must keep the Guardians separated

if you are to defeat them.

- Rick, you and Jedda head back and cover Monitor.

- Right, Dad.

[exciting music]

[pounding on door]

[dramatic musical flourish]

- Looks like it's just you and me now,

and those are the kinds of odds I like.

Now if I can just bring this baby around.

Oh, no!

[computer beeping]

Dynak, main engine out.

They'll be on me in less than seconds.

[lasers zapping]

- Come on, Dynak. Ten seconds.

Any suggestions?

I've hit that robot with everything I've got,

and it's still coming.

What more can I-- wait a minute!

What's that?

Of course!

If I can manage to fire my lasers into the plate

and cause a power overload...

Wait a minute. What do I mean, "if"?

I've got to.

- Guardian robot ship destroyed.

- Right, one down and two to go.

Whoa! What's that?

- The wreckage of the robot is transforming.

- Transforming? It's disappearing.

What happened, Dynak?

- The energy from the destroyed Guardian robot ship

has been transferred to the other two Guardians.

- By destroying one Guardian, we made the other two stronger.

The kids are gonna need my help at Monitor.

- Flash Gordon easily defeated the first Guardian robot, sire.

Perhaps you have overestimated the Guardians' power.

- You have underestimated my genius, Octon.

Flash Gordon's success is not the victory it would appear.

- But, Excellency, only two robots remain,

and the Defenders will soon be united

to engage them in battle.

- As a team or individually,

they will be unable to defeat the Guardians of the Beacon.

[dramatic music]

- That robot's gonna break through the launch bay doors.

[pounding on door]

- You're right, Rick.

Those doors won't hold up much longer.

At this rate, it'll soon be inside Monitor's defenses.

- Dynak, create a stasis field to hold the attacker suspended.

- To create a stasis field

would require all available power,

leaving Monitor vulnerable.

- Do it!

[dramatic musical flourish]

[tense music]

[pounding on door]

Dad, you're...

- I'm all right, son.

When I saw your trick-or-treater

at the main bay doors,

I came in the emergency launch bay.

And it looks like I made it here just in time.

[machine whirs]

[electricity zapping]

- The attacker is under my control.

- For now.

- Ready, son? We're headin' to New York.

[ship engines whir]

- What's the story about these robots, Dad?

- Eons ago, a brilliant and benevolent people

known as the Eternals

were said to have visited many worlds,

building incredible cities

and sharing their great technologies,

doing good for thousands of peoples.

But when they moved on to other parts of the galaxy,

the cities they left behind became decadent,

and to save themselves,
[ … ]

the natives of a small planet named Terrador

took a communications station the Eternals had built

and converted it into a spacecraft.

It was called the Beacon of the Eternals.

Now, the Beacon carries three robots

designed by the Eternals themselves

to protect itGuardians,

Guardians with two purposes:

to help find the Eternals again

and let nothing harm them or stand in their way.

[dramatic electric guitar music]

- Why are the Guardians attacking the Defenders?

We haven't tried to harm them.

- The Beacon has a highly sophisticated computer system.

It wasn't by mistake we became their enemy.

- I'll bet whoever threatened the Beacon

used a Defender look-alike ship.

- That's exactly what I've been thinking, son.

[dramatic musical flourish]

[suspenseful music]

- L.J., that big guy is still right on our tail.

- We've got to reach Dad and the others

before it reaches us.

[dramatic musical flourish]

[applause]

- Thank you, ladies and gentlemen.

And now for my next trick,

I will take not a rabbit out of a hat

but rather some hats out of a rabbit.

[laughter and applause]

- Whoa!

- Whoa!

Just made it that time.

Boy, talk about a fast learner.

We're almost to the Magic Palace.

If we can just ditch this big goon for a moment,

we'll be able to join up with the others.

- Sounds good to me.

- [gibberish]

- There's the Magic Palace.

Ahoy there!

I really must teach my fellow club members

a few new tricks someday.

[all screaming]

- That's L.J.'s fighter.

- He's being chased by a giant Guardian robot.

- What's a Guardian robot? - Details later.

I believe L.J. is about to land.

- Okay, now to get her down quick.

Oh, that's quicker than I had in mind!

[both yelling]

- L.J., what have you done to anger that monster?

- Nothing. We--we were set up somehow.

- Yeah, it's out to get us.

[suspenseful music]

- Quick, Lothar.

We've got to do something before he crushes Mandrake.

[grunts]

Come on, Lothar, push!

I'm pushing. I'm pushing!

This is one heavy robot, my friend.

- [grunting] He's not just heavy, Dad.

He has special powers too,

laser powers!

Gangway.

- Now you see me. Now you don't.

- Mandrake, get out of the way!

- On the contrary, we must make a stand.

Obviously, mere strength has no effect on him.

- [gibberish]

- Let's see how our friend likes these.

- It's no good, Mandrake.

- He's adapting to everything you do!

Nothing seems to stop him.

- Pop's right. We can't stop him.

- You guys look like you could use some reinforcements.

If you'd like me to take over from here...

- Nonsense, old boy.

You've only just arrived,

and the floor show's about to begin.

Hope you've brought a heavy coat with you,

my overgrown friend.

- I think I know what you're up to, Mandrake,

and it just might work.

Look, he's adapting to Mandrake's illusion again,

raising his body temperature to survive the cold.

- But it's only an illusion, so he's burning himself up.

- Take cover, everyone!

We're about to enjoy some fireworks.

- Now we've got to get back to Monitor.

- I hope Dynak's holding up okay.

- The Defenders have defeated

yet another Guardian robot, Excellency.

- The Defenders have played their part

in my plan perfectly.

Behold, witness the genius of Ming the Merciless.

Watch as the life-force of the fallen Guardian

leaves its broken body

to bond with Primus, master Guardian

and now the most powerful robot in the galaxy!

By destroying the secondary Guardians

just as I predicted,

the Defenders have only succeeded

in creating one Guardian

they cannot possibly destroy.

[laughs menacingly]

- Look, Dad, it's doubled in size.

- Power getting weaker. Soon be gone.

- You know, the Beacon of the Eternals' mission

might hold the answer.

We're not really the Guardian's top priority.

Finding the Eternals is.

- So if we could make Pilot, the Beacon's supercomputer,

think that he has found the Eternals...

- Then he would call off the Guardian

and go whenever we send them.

Great idea. - How can we fool Pilot, Rick?

- If Dynak had the power, she could do it easily.

- But with the stasis field sapping her energy like this...

- Rick...

- Hang on, Dynak. We're almost there.

[mysterious music]

There, I'm finished.

Terry's power generator is now linked directly to Dynak.

Ready, Dynak? - Affirmative, Rick.

Pilot, the navigator is expecting a specific response

from the Eternals to the Beacon's call for help.

- How is this going to work, Rick?

- Dynak is scanning the robot's memory banks

looking for the Eternals' response to the signal,

which we'll transfer to Flash's swordship.

It'll be loaded into the memory bank

of a homing torpedo.

- Homing torpedo ready for launching.

- I'll take it from here, guys. Thanks.

[computer beeps]

- Losing power.

Stasis field no longer operable.

[power field whirs]

[pounding on door]

- There's the black hole,

the most dangerous phenomenon in space.

Whatever goes in there doesn't come out.

Hope that torpedo's message draws the Beacon in after it

'cause if it doesn't, the Defenders are history.

- Now the Defenders are finished!

[laughs menacingly]

- The Guardian's inside Monitor.

- If the Guardian isn't summoned back

to the Beacon fast...

- If he isn't, then all I can say is,

it's been a pleasure working with you,

Defenders of the Earth.

- The Eternals have answered our call.

Our search has ended.

Depart immediately.

- It worked!

The Guardian's following Dad's false signal.

- No! This cannot be!

- I am afraid so, sire.

The Defenders' ploy has worked.

The Guardian is withdrawing.

- I see, you useless pile of scrap!

[dramatic musical flourish]

- Let's hope the Beacon someday finds the Eternals

and brings the good back to its planets.
