- I love Jamaica, Zuff.

There are so many interesting things to see here.

All you have to do is look around

and you'll find some neat old relics.

They're everywhere!

Jamaica is full of old legends, history.

Zuff, what did I tell you?

Look at that old pirate ship out there.

Old pirate ship?

Zuffy, look!

- Ease to port, lads!

- It's a ghost ship, Zuff!

A real ghost ship!

Boy, this is great.

Come on, Zuff, we've got to tell the others.

Here it is, Zuffy.

This is what we saw.

The Ghost Ship of Hispaniola?

- Mandrake will believe us now.

We'll show him this picture.

- Looks like your ghost ship has disappeared twice,

once on the sea, and now in your book.

- But it was here, Mandrake.

Honest it was.

- This is a magic book, Kshin!

- I'm sure your ghost ship will turn up again,

if it truly exists!

- But it does exist!

We saw it! Zuff saw it, too!

- I'm sure there's a logical explanation.

Probably something to do with light

reflecting through the fog, Kshin.

- Tell you what, Kshin--

- Mandrake, Dad, Lothar,

we've picked up two of Ming's roboships on radar!

- We'd better take a look.

- And you, young man, had best be getting ready for bed.

- Come on, Zuffy, we've got better things to do.

- Two blips over the Southern Reef.

- What would Ming's roboships be doing here?

- Looking for a bit of R & R, I suspect.

- I doubt rest and recreation is what Ming is after.

- There's another one!

- Keep a sharp eye out, kids.

Keep us posted.

- It's rather like Ming to spoil our holiday, isn't it?

- I'm scared, too, Zuff,

but we're going to find that ghost ship,

if it's the last thing we do.

- Now what would the night want with two young boys?

Or whatever you are!

- Who are you?

- Who? Who?

Are you a boy or an owl, lad?

Come here, I won't harm ya.

What's that with ya?

It's surely the strangest dog I ever did see.

- He's not a dog, he's my friend.

- And what brings you and your friend

down here tonight?

- We're looking for the Ghost Ship of Hispaniola.

- I might have known you'd be after something like that.

Sit and I'll tell you stories of other days.

Across the harbor used to be a place called Port Royal.

Now close your eyes

and I'll tell you about your ghost ship.

Port Royal was a pirate haven,

and old Morgan was king of the pirates!

Then, sudden-like, a great earthquake struck!

The whole evil place vanished,

sinking forever beneath the waves.

- Wow!

- Every hundred years

the Ghost Ship comes back to these waters

but only for a few days, to sail in silence.

- Where is the best place to see the Ghost Ship?

- Out yonder by the old lighthouse.

You might catch sight of her there.

- Thanks!

Thanks very much!
[ … ]

Come on, Zuff!

- Shivers me timbers, it does.

You won't be thanking me, lad, that's for sure.

- Have you located the ghost ship?

- Negative.

Still searching.

- We must find Morgan's Compass, Octon.

- The only way to find Morgan's Compass, Sire--

- Is to find the ghost ship.

It alone holds the key.

- Brought you some hot cocoa, Son.

- Thanks, Dad.

You'd better take a look at this.

- What is it, son?

- Those roboships have flown

over almost every island in this area.

There's no doubt in my mind, Dad,

they're looking for something.

- We've got to get close enough to take pictures, Zuff.

What? Did you see it, Zuff?

Did you see the-- The Ghost Ship!

- Rowboat off the starboard bow, Captain!

- I make it.

Hard to starboard, Mr. Leach!

Bring them alongside.

- I heard it.

They're coming after us.

- I am, Zuffy, I am!

- Ahoy, rowboat.

Prepare to be boarded!

- Belay you rowing, lad.

- Well done, Sneed.

- We chase legends and find only empty oceans.

Find me facts, Octon, not legends!

- Sire, this particular legend

leaves a faint trail of trace energy.

- That means I can follow that accursed ghost ship

right to Morgan's Compass.

And with Morgon's Compass in my possession,

I will make the ghost pirates my unconquerable sl*ves!

- But I don't understand, Captain Sir,

why you need this compass.

- Only the compass of that sea-dog Morgan

can free us from this doom of sailing the oceans forever.

We know where it should be,

but it lies many fathoms down with the rest of Port Royal.

- I think I can help, Captain Sir.

- There's a good joke, lad!

- My friend Rick has a sonic probe.

- A sonic what?

- It's a device that can search under water.

- Where is this sonic device, lad?

It's back in Kingston, sir!

Leach, take the lad and his pet into Kingston.

Fetch this device back here.

We haven't much time.

Hurry!

- Oh, I can find the way myself.

- No doubt, boy, but to get on or off this ship,

one of us must be with ye.

- Oh, I see.

- You're a bright boy, lad.

- We've spotted three more roboships

in your vicinity, Dad.

- I hear you, son.

Here they come right on cue.

- So, you mechanical marvels,

you want to play that way, do you?

Okay, let's have some fun.

Piece o' cake!

Flash to Rick, get the other Defenders together.

We're going after Ming.

- This is not the Kingston I remember.

- How long has it been

since you've been back here, Mr. Leach?

- Over years, laddy! - Carnival!

- There must be some kind of celebration going on.

This is it, Mr. Leach.

You and Zuffy better stay here.

I'll be right back.

- The locals are out at their carnival.

Rick and Flash and everybody else

get to fly around looking for Ming,

and I get to stay here and talk to myself.

At least I can watch somebody having fun.

- You some kind of cat?

- I got it, Mr. Leach.

Let's go!

- Zombies!

They're coming after me, lad!

They're asking me about Morgan's Compass.

- Zombies?

Are you sure?

- Zombies!

And now a ghost!

- Frost people!

What do we do now?

- Take us to Morgan's Compass.

- Stay put, laddy, I'll lead them a merry chase.

If it's Morgan's Compass you want,
[ … ]

follow me, if you can keep up!

- You are a strange Earthling.

We will follow.

- Are you with me, you scurvy dogs?

- What are scurvy dogs?

- Belay it.

It's Morgan's Compass you want.

There she be.

Follow me.

- We cannot enter the flames.

- If you want your bloody compass,

you'll come and get it.

- You're the sorriest lot of zombies I ever seen!

- But you're the one who told us the story,

why are you so frightened now?

- Stories, lad, just stories.

They're not supposed to be real.

But your Mr. Leach is a real ghost!

I'm sorry, lad, but count me out.

- What happened to the-- - Zombies?

They couldn't take the heat.

And now that we know there's someone else looking

for Morgan's Compass, we must hurry back to the ship.

- This is where I say farewell, lad.

- Nice meeting you.

- May I remind the young sir

that there's still work ahead of us?

- Right. Let's get to it, Mr. Leach.

- I don't think Ming knows we're here yet.

That might give us an edge.

- If we keep up all these recon flights

he's bound to spot us sooner or later.

- L.J. is right, but we have no choice.

We must continue the patrols.

- We don't want any of Ming's little surprises.

- I must see if Kshin has gone to bed before we depart.

Kshin? He's not here.

Hasn't even been to bed!

- Both the pirate ghost and the boy

have slipped through my fingers.

Garax, the ghost ship can't be far

if one of the pirate ghosts appeared in Kingston.

- There is another development, sire!

A standard electron beam generator

will freeze the ghosts in one location

allowing for their temporary capture.

- Garax, take an electron beam generator with you.

- I think I've got something, Zuff.

There is something shaped like a chest.

Captain! Captain!

I think I've spotted something!

- What've ye got, lad?

- I think it's a sea chest of some kind.

- Morgan's Compass was in such a chest.

- But we have no way to bring it up.

- I think I know a way,

that barrel could be a diving bell.

- Another one of your devices?

- Rick showed me how to trap air

so you can breathe inside it.

I'll go down and open the chest!

- And we will have Morgan's Compass!

By the Jolly Roger, you're a smart lad.

- I know.

If I can remember how to rig up the diving bell.

- Bearing two-zero-one.

- Electron beam generator ready.

Proceed with plan two.

- Look out!

Roboships!

- Robo, what?

- Maintain laser fire.

- Avast!

What magic is this?

- Captain, what's happening to us?

- It's some kind of spell to keep us where we are.

- So we'll give them a taste of lead.

Ye, mates?

Man the g*ns!

- I've got something, dad.

Laser fire with some strange energy readings.

- L.J. to Flash, come in.

I think I've located Kshin.

- That's great, L.J.

- The homing signal I'm getting from that sonic probe

Kshin must have taken

is in the exact same location as those laser

and energy readings Rick has detected.

- Let's check it out.

What the!

- I don't believe my eyes!

That ship doesn't look real!

- Those roboships look real enough.

Lasers ready!

Defenders!

Attack them!

- Are you sure about this, lad?

- Don't question him now, Leach.

Just hoist the diving bell over the side.

- Get me over the side, quick!
[ … ]

- Aweigh the bell, me hearties!

- Here we go.

- I've got it!

I've got Morgan's Compass!

- One roboship left!

- I'll take it out!

- Ming will defeat you yet, Flash Gordon.

- I winged him but he got away.

- I found it. I found Morgan's Compass!

- Okay, Zuff, okay!

- It be Morgan's Compass, that old sea snake.

We would have sailed these seas forever

if it hadn't been for your finding it.

This once belonged to the Spanish Queen.

Here, don't think she'll be needing them.

You saved us, boy.

- Captain!

- You freed us, my boy!

- If you ever feel a little tap on your shoulder, matey,

it's just old Leach here watching over you.

- Goodbye, and thanks!

- You know what, Kshin?

I think we're all gonna listen a little more carefully

the next time you find something

out of that book of yours.

- Yeah.

There's a lot more to the book of enigmas

than meets the eye.
