It's two stories and it's filled with surprises.

They will be living in total confinement,

cut off from the outside world, while

competing for food, luxuries, and, most importantly, power.

Each week, the house guests will vote to evict one of their own.

In the end, one house guest will remain and have the opportunity

to walk away with the largest cash prize in "Big Brother"

history--

$ million.

This season, it's a summer of secrets.

And one secret is so astonishing that it

will change the way the "Big Brother" game is played.

It all starts tonight, on the season

premiere of, "Big Brother ."

It's a new season, a completely new

house, and new house guests.

Good evening, I'm Julie Chen.

Welcome to "Big Brother ."

Tonight, we meet the men and women

who are saying goodbye to their families

and friends for the summer.

"Big Brother " is a summer of secrets.

There are secrets in the house, secrets in the game,

and even our house guests have secrets.

Each of the house guests is entering the house

and playing the "Big Brother" game with someone they already

know from the outside world.

It could be a close friend, a trusted coworker,

or a significant other.

The twist is that each pair believes

they are the only ones playing the game with a secret partner.

They have no idea that everyone in the house

has the same secret.

Why should the house guests keep their secret?

Well, revealing their partnerships

could make them a target.

If one of these duos makes it to the end of the game

and they are the last two house guests standing,

the winner is guaranteed the biggest prize

ever in "Big Brother" history--

$ million.

This season, the house guests are in for quite a summer.

From Pembroke Pines, Florida, to Chicago, Illinois,

to Las Vegas, Nevada, all these men and women

are coming together to compete to be

the winner of "Big Brother ."

Let's see what happened when we surprised

our house guests with the key to their new journey.

I'm Julie.

Take a good look at the people around you

because, like it or not, they are your new family.

This is, above all, a competition--

a grueling, summer-long power struggle.

As soon as you walk through those doors behind you,

you won't come out until you've either been evicted

or won the "Big Brother" game.

Once inside the house, there is absolutely no contact

with the outside world.

The only people you will see are one another.

You will not be able to use phones, the internet,

watch television, or listen to music.

In just a few moments, you'll be entering the "Big

Brother" house in three groups that

have been chosen at random.

The first five to enter the "Big Brother" house

are Ashlea, Howie, James, Jennifer, and April.

You may go on in.

OK. Yeah.

Why don't somebody go that way and I'll go this way.

We'll tell you each other!

This house is very psychedelic, shagadelic.

Like a child's playground.

The house, itself, is phenomenal.

Unfortunately, we're all in one big room together.

- Where are the sleeping bags? - Upstairs.

I did the math in my head.

I saw the, you know, beds, three sleeping bags,

and like a little futon thing on the side.

So somebody's getting screwed, but it wasn't me.

has got to jump in bed with somebody or something.

The final five to enter the "Big Brother" house

are Sarah, Ivette, Eric, Michael, and Janelle.

and sort of on the same page.

It'll be interesting to see how that changes.

Each week, the house guests battle for food and power.

For the first time on "Big Brother",

the house guests will compete for food

and the coveted Head of Household position in one game.

And later, more on the summer of secrets.

Each guest is secretly partnered with another house guest.

Remember, each duo thinks they are the only twosome which is

playing the "Big Brother" game.

They have no idea that everyone has a secret partner.

Our house guests have been getting to know

each other and their new home.

Now it's time for the first competition of the season.

Hello again, everyone.

Hi.

For the next three months, I'll communicate

with you through this screen.

Oh!

JULIE: You may have noticed that the kitchen in your new house

is stocked with only peanut butter and jelly--

a "Big Brother" favorite.

Grape jelly.

Tonight, you will have a chance

to compete for groceries.

[cheering]

If you succeed, you'll receive food for the week.

If you fail, it's peanut butter and jelly for breakfast,

lunch, and dinner.

But the food isn't all you'll be competing for this evening.

You will also battle to become the first Head

of Household or HOH--

the most powerful person in the "Big Brother" house.

All of a sudden, it's serious.

JULIE: It is serious.

Tonight we're doing that?

Oh, yeah.

Oh, no!

If you win HOH, you will not be going home this week,

but you will have to nominate two of your fellow house mates

for eviction.

Plus, you'll move into the most luxurious Head

of Household room ever.

And trust me, it's a room definitely worth fighting for.

House guests, I now need you to divide into two teams of seven,

one group on each camp.

Let's make it simple.

All right.

Wow.

Now I would like everyone to change into their swimsuits--

- No! - No!

JULIE: Oh, yeah.

And head out to the backyard.

[cheering]

Oh my god.

OK.

Everybody leave, so I can change.

The guys, they all, you know, have great bodies

and, you know, obviously, all work out.

Wait!

Wait!

We're in here.

[laughing]

Sorry!

A "Big Brother" selection of ladies.

I think, this year, "Big Brother"

took a big step up and put some good looking

females in the household.

[music playing]

[cheering]

We walked into the backyard.

It was absolutely amazing.

And it was like a jungle.

All right.

House guests, listen up.

Here's how it works--

both teams will get into the pool.

Each team must climb on top of their big brother surfboard.

You must work together to balance on the board

while grabbing coconuts off the tree

and tossing them in the mouth of the big kahuna.

But you can only pick, pass, or sh**t

coconuts when all seven of your teammates are on the surfboard.

When minutes is up, the team that has the most coconuts

will win food for the week.

The losing team-- it's PB and J for every meal.

But there is more than food at stake.

The winning team will battle one another for Head of Household.

OK then.

Get in the pool and stand by your surfboards.

[music playing]

Oh my god. It is cold.

This is a very important competition to win.

That's the only way to be safe and to be healthy.

With us having the five girls and two guys,

I was like, there is no way in the world

we're going to pull this off.

OK, house guests, surf's up!

[surf music playing]

We put Howie in the front because he was tall.

And, you know, he said he could make all the baskets.

[surf music playing]

Kaysar said he plays basketball.

But, boy, if his life betted on it today,

he would have been dead.

The other team was sh**ting much better than us.

And they kept rotating who was throwing.

We're more than halfway through the game

and the score is nine to two, orange.

We were starting to like yell at each other-- do this!

Move out of the way!

And we were losing so badly.

[screaming]

Everyone went into the water.

And I held on with dear life because I

didn't want to get my hair wet.

[screaming]

Come on, baby!

Michael finally sank like four of them.

But at that point, it was like switching seats on the Titanic.

[IN UNISON] Five, four, three, two, one!

JULIE: One!

[cheering]

With a score of to seven, orange team,

you are the winners!

[cheering]

We smoked-- smoked--

the other team.

Blue team, I'm sorry, but it's a week's worth of peanut butter

and jelly for all you.

We're sorry!

It was pretty embarrassing how poorly we performed.

Yeah.

It was pretty bad.

Yeah!

We had coconuts in collecting tub.

And those coconuts piled up in there for one reason--

because of me.

Orange team, congratulations again.

You have won food for the week.

But the competition is only half over because now, it's

time for you to face off against each other.

One of you is about to become the first Head of Household.

All seven of you will stand on the orange surfboard.

Whoever is the last person standing on the surf board

will be the new Head of Household.

OK, everyone, please get back on your surfboard and hang on.

The game will begin when I say, surf's up.

While did the Head of Household competition,

we all kind of made an early agreement that the seven of us

would stick together for the next two weeks.

and they just felt safe, so they kind of willfully

left the game on their own volition.

I was just having faith in the people that were still on--

that, you know, we'll let them have Head of Household,

but they're not going to kick us off this week.

The water is so warm.

I did not want to be the first Head of Household

because we're so early on in the game.

Later on, when I get a reason to put people up,

I'll need Head of Household for security.

I'm just glad I was on the winning team tonight.

and I did my prayers there.

As a Muslim, I will be praying five times a day.

My prayers will last five minutes each.

It's a good method to remember God.

When I came down after my paper, Ashley

asked me about what I just did.

But I'm assuming--

You kind of have a biased opinion

going in for the first time, because

of the whole w*r with Iraq.

But, you know, getting to know him as an individual,

you get through those judgments and those bias.

And I really like him as an individual.

And I needed to make sure the guys were safe.

I feel evil right now, you know? - All right.

Well, I appreciate that.

Hopefully, if all goes well, then

we'll get Jennifer out of here.

That will be one evil, little woman down.

James came up to me and he recommended someone.

And I actually thought of the same.

But I hadn't said anything to anybody,

but my decision is not in stone.

Nothing is in stone until I take the keys

and put them in the bag.

So we'll just-- we'll just see what happens.

Welcome back to "Big Brother ."

After getting to know her fellow house mates,

it's time for Rachel, the Head of Household,

to nominate two people for eviction.

Who will she put on the chopping block?

Let's find out.

The nomination is definitely weighing on my mind.

I'm thinking about it a lot.

I don't know everyone well enough.

I don't like doing it.

We're all a little tense and nervous because you can't

trust anybody in this house.

I don't think making this decision will be easy,

but it's a game and you've got to do

something just to stay alive.

You cannot help but be tense and anxious.

There's no guarantee till your key comes out of that circle.

It's a game.

And I'm just going on gut instinct, just to stay alive.

Hey, everyone, it's time for the nomination ceremony.

It was really a lot harder than I thought it would be.

What I'm going to do is take the first key out

and I will tell that person they are safe.

I will pass it down and they will

do the same with the next key.

When all the keys have been pulled,

the two house guests without a key are nominated for eviction.

I just haven't had a chance to really get to know you,
