[Thunder crashing]

[Roaring]

[Thunder crashing]

[Shrill laughing]

Call it intuition, or just

blind luck, but something

compelled those two kids to

drive away fast.

And when they got home, there,

hanging from the car door

handle, was a hook!

Oh, man, good one, Tom.

The hook.

One of the best, right, Vincent?

It was scary the first five

times I heard it.

What?

Have you got a better one?

Better's a matter of opinion.

I'd say it's more fitting, given

our current situation.

What do you mean?

Haven't you guys ever heard

of the spirit of Mount Raven,

and the horrible tragedy that

happened on this very mountain?

No, what tragedy?

What happened?

It happened up there, on this

very mountain, over 130 years

ago.

Mount Raven has a long and

storied history of snatching

people from the brink of

victory, a reputation that began

with this incident.

According to legend, in 1865,

two of the mountain's first

explorers were in a race to the

top, competing to be the first

to reach the summit.

Ooh, hey!

The leader suffered a

terrible accident, and was

unable to move.

Argh!

But instead of helping him,

the climber's competitor

foraged ahead, to become the

first man to reach the top of

Mount Raven.

He chose fame and notoriety

over the life of his rival.

The locals say that the spirit

of the forsaken climber still

roams the mountain's frozen

slopes to this very day...

searching for the summit, and

revenge.

Gee, I guess the lack of

applause means that Jeff didn't

like my story, eh, Tom?

You always have to win, don't

you, Vincent?

Anyway I can: trash talk,

head games.

Win at all costs.

And I usually do.

Nope, I'm not the spirit,

if that's who you were

ex-spectre-ing.

But he'll be along.

I'm dead certain of that,

because as far as I can ski, our

competitive friend Vincent is in

dire need of a lesson in good

sportsmanship and scare play.

[Cackling]

Whoa, who was that?

Looks like Vincent and Tom

are at it again.

Ha, is that Tom Purcell

trying to beat me?

For a minute, I thought it was

my grandmother!

Not bad for a grandmother.

MAN: All right, guys, gather

round.

The tri-county ski meet takes

place on Monday.

Now, that leaves us all weekend

to practice.

As you know, only one of you

will be allowed to represent our

team, and the school.

I don't need to remind you how

difficult these slopes are.

They're fast and very dangerous,

so pay attention to what you're

doing, stay focused, and don't

let anything distract you.

Good luck this weekend,

Vincent.

Yeah, break a leg, Tom.

Or better yet, break two.

Uh, Vincent, you know that

story you told, about the

climbers?

Was that true?

Did that really happen?

It sure did.

I did some research before we

left.

A lot of strange stuff has gone

on up here.

Strange stuff?

Like what?

You wouldn't believe it if I

told you.

Creepy stuff.

I almost didn't come.

Really?

Then, why did you?

I'll do anything to win.

[Growling]

VINCENT: No...

No, it can't be!

Stay back!

It's... the spirit!

[Wailing]

[Laughing]

Oh, man.

This spirit stuff is gold!

It's exactly what I need to

psych Tom out this weekend.

Win at all costs, right,

Vincent?

[Bang]

Aah!

[Wind howling]

VOICE: Vin... cent...

[Laughing]

Man, this spirit stuff is

even getting to me.

Vincent!

Hey, Vincent!

Check it out!

That old spirit comes looking

for us, we'll be ready.

From what I've read, we're

gonna need more than a couple of

dopey snowmen to protect us.

Vincent, if you're trying to

mess with us, you can just

forget it, okay?

There's no spirit.

Eh, I didn't say there was.

All I'm saying is that a lot of

weird stuff has happened up

here; that's all.

Spirit or no spirit, just

knock it off, okay?

Well, well... looks like Tom

is afraid of ghosts.

So far my plan is working.

Now, to really psych him out.

Let the head games begin!

What's wrong?

Was there another accident?

Oh, no.

Not yet, anyway.

I just wanted to remind you guys

to be careful.

Of all the stuff that's happened

on this mountain, the weirdest

stuff happened right here on

these slopes.

It's like the Bermuda Triangle

of ski resorts.

Last year, a couple of skiers

took off down this hill and

never showed up at the bottom.

They just vanished.

They were never found.

Really?

That happened right on this

hill?

So what are you saying?

That the spirit might do the

same to us.

I'm not saying anything.

I'm just telling you what I

know, and after what happened to

those two skiers, I'm not taking

any chances.

But that's the beginner

slopes.

You'll never be ready for the

qualifying run practicing on

that!

Maybe we should listen to

him.

Well, I guess as long as

we're all practicing at the same

level.

[Laughing]

Oh, man!

This is gonna be easier than

I thought.

Yee-hoo!

[Laughing]

[Growling]

This is great.

I've got Tom so worried about

the spirit that he's never going

to be ready to race against me.

[Rumbling]

Snow slide!

Whoa, look out!

Move it!

[Yelling]

It's okay.

Luckily, it was a small slide.

Jeff is gonna be fine.

What I wanna know is what were

you boys doing on that part of

the hill anyway?

It's clearly marked

"off limits."

I guess we didn't see the

sign.

We weren't paying attention,

Coach.

I guess we're all a little

weirded out by this spirit

stuff.

This is exactly what I was

talking about.

The qualifying heats are coming

up, so from now on, I don't

want to hear any more talk

about this spirit.

Is that clear?

BOTH: Yes, sir.

But can I help it if Tom's so

easily psyched out?

Well, this is where we separate

the men from the boys.

Yeah, good luck, Vincent.

And remember what the coach

said, "Don't let all that spirit"

stuff distract you."

COACH: On your marks...

[Beeping]

[Growling]

What's happening?

Who's in the lead?

Tom, but not by much.

It's gonna be close.

VOICE OF VINCENT:A lot of

weird stuff has happened up

here.

Don't let it distract you, Tom.

The spirit might do the same to

us.

No, don't let your

imagination get the best of you.

You've got to stay focused to

win.

Come on, Tom, concentrate.

Concen...

Whoa, aah, whoa!

Yes!

I did it!

Ha, ha!

In your face, Purcell!

Yahoo!

Nice run.

You won fair and square.

Tough break, man, but don't

let it get to you.

We all choke once in a while.

Well done, both of you.

But only one of you can

represent the team tomorrow.

Vincent, this year, that's gonna

be you.

But if, for any reason, Vincent

can't compete, Tom, you'll take

his place.

Don't worry, Coach, not even

the spirit could keep me away

from that starting line.

[Growling]

Oh, man, that was almost too

easy.

Dust off an old legend, toss in

a couple of purely coincidental

accidents, stir everything up

with a big helping of mind games

and what do you get?

One psych-out soufflé,

a la Vincent.

Maybe I should hit the slopes

early tomorrow.

Yeah, that way I could share the

legend of the spirit with a few

of my competitors.

[Growling]

Whoa, get a grip, Vincent.

You're gonna psych yourself out.

VOICE: Vin... cent...

I've come...

for you...

Okay, uh, get a grip.

It's probably just Tom trying to

mess with you.

He's probably out there right

now, laughing at me.

Aah... aahh!

You, Vincent...

I've come... for you...

Aah!

No, get away!

Somebody, help me!

Help!

No, you're just a legend.

You can't be real.

All those things that happened

to those people...

Will happen to you!

No!

[Shivering]

Is he gone?

It's over?

It's over!

[Groaning]

Aahh!

You... Vincent...

You...

No, please!

Go away!

Leave me alone!

No.

[Groaning]

Aah!

Wah!

Stop it!

Go away!

Help!

Somebody, help me!

What am I gonna do?

They won't stop until they have

me.

Won't somebody please wake up?

Wake up!

[Honking horn]

Will somebody please, hear me?!

Wake up!

[Horn honking]

Ugh, what is that?

It's the middle of the night.

Aahh!

Aahhh!

[Yelling]

Can either of you tell me which

one of my genius boys let the

door open?

I didn't think so.

Some guards you turned out to

be.

Coach... come back.

Please, come back.

Aah!

No, get back!

Get away from me!

Why are you doing this?

I'm not like the guy that did

this to you.

I just want to win!

Vin... cent...

Ow!

My ankle.

No!

Aah!

Please, I'm sorry.

I shouldn't have done that to

Tom.

It was wrong, and I know it, and

I'll never, ever do it again.

Please!

JEFF: Vincent.

Hey, Vincent.

Get up.

Didn't you set your alarm?

Uh... I thought I did.

Is it morning?

Yeah!

You've got a race to run.

Oh, it must've been a dream.

Oh, man!

Come on, let's go!

The coach wants us outside

pronto!

Aie!

Oh, man, look at your ankle.

How did that happen?

You wouldn't believe it if I

told you.

Vincent, what about the race?

You can't ski like this.

I know.

Luckily, I don't have to.

We need the best man out there

today, and that's you, Tom.

[Horn honking]

That's the coach.

You better get going, Tom.

You're okay, Vincent.

I'll see you later.

Break a leg, Purcell.

Boy, this has been one weird

weekend.

We'd better get that ankle

checked out.

How does it feel?

Actually... I've never felt

better.

Hey, Vincent, we've got

something for you.

Is it a coat hanger?

This thing itches like crazy!

Not quite.

Check it out!

You won!

All right!

Aie!

Easy, Vincent.

I've had enough injuries to deal

with for one weekend.

He smoked 'em.

You should've seen it.

I can imagine.

I've seen him smoke you more

than once.

Nice going, Tom.

Thanks.

VINCENT: Anybody got any

good, uh, ghost stories?

JEFF: Oh, man...

[Growling]

Now there goes a real

spirited bunch.

I'm glad to hear that Vincent

has finally learned fright from

wrong.

That's our terrible tale for

today, terror tots.

I'll be skiing you.

And remember, creep out of

trouble, because I'll be

watching.

[Yodelling]
