- Ooh, there's nothing like the sweet sound of a horn.

I didn't know you could play the trumpet.
- That's the problem, I can't.
- I just started taking lessons
and I'm not doing very well.

- We're waiting for a brass band to come
and practice for their concert tonight.

- A brass band is a band that plays only horns
and most horns are made
of a gold-colored metal, called brass.
- Like my trumpet.
- [Barney] Right.
- Aww, too bad they don't need a drummer.
I think drums are the coolest musical instrument.
- Oh I like the drums too BJ,
but I must say I love to hear those horns.
(horns playing)
(BJ sighing in amazement)
- Like that.
- I think that music is coming from the caboose, Barney!
- Oh, boy!
- Maybe it's the band warming up.
- They might want a drummer after all, come on!
- Oh I can't wait to hear what's next, oh boy.

- Huh, say do you guys need a drummer?
where'd they go, Mr. Boyd?
- [Children] Hi, Mr. Boyd.
- Hello, Barney, BJ, hi kids.
Who were you looking for, BJ?
- We heard some horn music coming from here.
- We thought the brass band
might be practicing already.
- And I wanted to ask if they needed a drummer.
(BJ drumming)
- I'm sorry BJ, that wasn't a band.
That was me, playing his French Horn.
- Oh, well it sounded really cool!
- Well, thanks.
- Wow, look at these cool horns!
- Awesome. - There are so many.
- It's kind of like a petting zoo.
You see, most musical instruments
aren't toys to be played with,
but folks who come to the concert tonight
will be able to look at these horns up-close,
hold them, even try them out.
- Oh that's great.
- They all look so different.
- And each one sounds very different too, Gianna.
- The trumpet sounds like this.
(Angela blowing the trumpet)
(BJ sighing in amazement)
(Barney chuckling)
- [Barney] Oh boy. - Wow.
- Very nice, Angela!
That was a perfect trumpet note.
- It sure was.
- And this French horn has a soft, mellow sound.
(Mr. Boyd playing the French horn)
(BJ sighing in amazement)
- I like that, so smooth.
- And this is a trombone.
It sounds really cool, listen.
- Okay.
(BJ playing the trombone)
- [Barney] Oh, my.
(children chuckling happily)
- See, nothing like a trombone to get people smiling.
- Oh that's true.
- Wow, his horn is almost as big as Barney!
- That's a tuba, Nick.
And if I remember correctly,
Barney is quite a good tuba player.
- Oh well, I have tooted a tuba tune or two in my time.
That's true. (everyone laughing)
- Would you please play something for us, Barney?
- [Kids, Mr.Boyd, BJ] Please?
- Okay, now the tuba sounds bigger, deeper,
and lower than the other horns, like this.
(Barney playing the tuba)
- [BJ] Whoa!
(kids laughing)
- Oops, I'm sorry, guess I got a little
carried away with that last note.
- Wow, Barney!
When you play the tuba, you really get down.
(everyone laughing)
- [Barney] Thank you, BJ.
- As you heard, each of these horns
has a special sound,
and each lets us play music
in so many different ways!
But you don't need a horn to make music.
- [Barney] Oh, boy. - [BJ] Cool.
