Man: ♪ there once was a seafaring bug ♪

♪ Who set sail on a leaky old tug ♪

( Sighs, then moans )

( Laughter )

( Woman sounds out "w" )

( Applause )

And now for anyone who has ever had trouble with the letter "w"

Here is tammy lionette.

( To country-western tune ): ♪ I got "w" trouble, and I know what's to blame ♪

♪ It's because there's no "wuh" sound in w's name ♪

♪ I am wasted and woeful and wilted and tense ♪

♪ What's with w's "wuh" sound? It doesn't make sense. ♪

♪ You know, "m" makes an "mmm" sound ♪

♪ And "j" just goes "juh" ♪

♪ An "s" has a "sss" sound and "d" sounds like "duh" ♪

♪ Why a letter called "double 'u'" looks like two vs ♪

♪ I got "w" trouble, I worry and weep ♪

♪ I am worn out and weary and I'm losing sleep ♪

Plucky young monica maxwell has just succeeded

In getting her parka buttoned.

But wait a minute, what's this?

It's the evil "un" people-- how unfortunate.

They're putting an "un" in front of the word "buttoned"

Causing monica's buttoned parka to become unbuttoned.

( Monica shivers )

The heroic "re" people are here.

Look, monica's parka is rebuttoned.

"Re" people, you're utterly unbelievable.

And now world-renowned mezzo- soprano ms. Denyce graves

Will sing the sound of the letter "u" in the word "sun."

( Sings short "u" in ascending, then descending notes )

( Applause, cheering and whistling )
