NARRATOR:A visitor has just gone from Collinwood

vowing vengeance.

Count Petofi's physical self is no longer present,

but his evil spirit has possessed young Jamison

And remains to watch as one by one inhabitants of Collinwood

face a moment a truth so shattering

that it can destroy as surely as the strongest weapon.

Well, Dr. Brooks says you're fine.

- Just fine. - Does he?

Yes, I'm afraid we all were

just a little over-excited, that's all.

Everything is going to be alright.

I don't think your Dr. Brooks is a very good doctor.

He examined me for nearly an hour,

and never noticed that I was missing a hand.

Now Jamison, please.

There is nothing wrong with you, the doctor said so.

Now there is your hand, you see?

You see your hand?

Why don't you take these gloves off?

No I cannot.

I have no hands.

Nonsense, take them off immediately.

No!

- Well then you will force me to do it for you.

My hand!

JAMISON: I told you I had no hand.

I told you!

EDWARD: What's happened?

I'm afraid. I'm afraid.

Oh Jamison, please, don't be afraid.

I'm here. I'll take care of you.

It's going to be alright.

Please Jamison, I'll look after you.

Oh father I do love you.

What are you doing in here?

Edward, what's the matter?

Sir, I'm a stranger in these parts,

but certainly in a great house like this

there's something for an honest man to do.

Especially if he's willing to do anything.

Oh, it's such a lovely house, sir.

What's it called?

[ eerie music ]

I appreciate beautiful things.

I worked in a very fine home,

- the Earl of Hampshire's. - Edward.

Yes, the Earl of Hampshire's gentleman, Edward.

QUENTIN: Edward,

have you been drinking?

Oh, no sir.

I never drink during working hours.

No.

Of course you haven't.

- Edward, sit down. - Oh.

It's alright, I said sit down.

Edward when I told you

that there was something wrong with Jamison

you wouldn't listen to me.

But now you must.

I'm listening, sir.

Oh, for heaven's sake, don't call me sir.

Oh, but I must call you sir.

If anything I know my place, sir.

But this is your place.

You are Edward Collins.

You live here, this is your home.

Now,

now you tell me who you are.

I am Edward Collins.

The Earl of Hampshire's gentleman, Edward.

What are you doing?

Oh it is the mark of a well trained gentleman's

gentleman to anticipate his master's wish.

- He is a gem isn't he? - Why are you doing this to us?

My first instincts about you were right, weren't they?

Yes you are that man,

that rare man who faces the truth.

You don't try and pretend that I am Jamison gone mad,

because you of course know better.

Edward,

The servant's quarters are under the staircase.

You can go now.

Stay where you are. I'll handle this.

I think it's time boys your age were in bed.

So you do have some family loyalty.

[ laughs ] Goodnight, Mr. Collins.

Some servants don't like

working where there are children,

but I think they brighten the home.

Oh, I--

Charity, Charity come in.

- Edward's sick. - Sick?

Oh, no sir, I'm in excellent health.

- What did he say? - Edward, pour us some brandy.

Very good, sir.

He doesn't realize he's Edward Collins.

He thinks he's a servant.

Don't you think we better telephone the doctor?

No, there's only one thing we can do,

we've got to keep him safe until he finds himself.

[ eerie orchestral music ]

[ knocking on door ]

I am Charles Delaware Tate, Good evening.

I'm here to see Mr. Jamison Collins.

JAMISON: I am Jamison Collins.

- You? - Yes.

Please don't be alarmed by my appearance.

I assure you that I am the very person you know well.

Come in.

Shall we go into the drawing room

and get started with our business?

Charles Delaware Tate,

a noted painter,

pursued by rich women and beautiful girls,

all hoping to be captured on one of your

immortal canvases.

Well I know what a busy man you are

so let us get down to business.

I came the minute Aristede came for me.

Here.

Who's this?

That is Quentin Collins.

Does he know that I'm going to paint his portrait?

No.

But he will.

Oh but the young Master said that the

servant's quarters were under the stairs.

- I prefer you in here. - Oh, very good, sir.

[ lock turning ]

EDWARD: You can't lock me up.

You can't.

You can't, I can't do my job if you lock me up.

And I will do it no matter,

I will do what must be done.

Charity,

I'm afraid we're all going to need each other

if we're going to have any chance against this fiend

who's fighting us.

Mr. Fenngibbon seemed like such a,

a cultured man.

[ Quentin laughs ]

Please don't laugh at me.

I'm not laughing at you Charity.

We're all going to be exposed for what we really are.

And there's nothing we can do about it.

Yes, yes there is.

We can pray.

[ laughs ] Pray huh?

Now you are laughing at me.

That isn't worthy of the real Quentin Collins.

Very few people know him.

- But I do. - Oh?

Yes, I know what you're really like Quentin.

Sometimes I even know what you're going to say

before you say it.

QUENTIN: What am I going to say?

You're going to say,

"Charity, let's go back to the drawing room,

"and have a brandy."

-Sorry, you're wrong.

I'm going to say "Thank you Miss Trask,

"and Goodnight."

I have to go somewhere right now.

Where? Who are you going to see?

- That doesn't concern you. - Yes it does!

Anyhow I know.

You're going to the town to see some sl*t.

And I even know why.

Because I am too much of a lady.

Too much of a lady for Quentin Collins.

[ heavy slapping ]

Barnabas?

Barnabas.

I am here Quentin.

- Did you send for the child? - Just as you told me.

- He should be here very soon. - Good.

It's difficult to think of him as a child.

You must not lose sight of the fact that

the mind is possessed by...

by Count Petofi.

We must find a way to

get that c*ptive mind

and return the body to its rightful owner.

And we must act quickly,

before everything is changed irrevocably.

If only we can.

Who is this?

QUENTIN: Don't you recognize her?

BARNABAS: She seems familiar.

It's Jenny.

Just before I married her.

She was very beautiful.

Yes she was.

I went to my son's grave yesterday.

In the woods near Sandor's.

- He was buried in the woods? - QUENTIN: Yes.

With a pentagram?

Yes, for all the good it'll do him now.

Then I came home.

Looked for this photograph.

My little girl, she looks like her mother.

[ loud knocking ]

- BARNABAS: He's here. - Come in.

- You wanted to see me Quentin? - QUENTIN: Yes.

BARNABAS: We both wanted to see you Jamison.

Cousin Barnabas!

- Did you miss me? - Oh yes, yes I did.

I missed you too.

Now listen to what I'm going to tell you.

We all love you a great deal.

Whatever must be done, we will do it.

But you must fight too Jamison.

Oh Mr. Collins aren't you taking a great risk

being here now?

Even though you have talents of appearing

and disappearing at will.

I had to be here, didn't I?

To meet you, Count Petofi.

Oh, another realist.

Oh that does please me.

We have not got the Hand.

Oh but you will get the Hand.

You will as soon as I make matters difficult for you.

Because that hand is mine.

And I have every right to it.

You have no right to possess Jamison Collins.

BARNABAS: Now look at me.

Look into my eyes, and look nowhere else.

Let everything else fade away.

Nothing remains but you and me.

Barnabas!

Nothing remains but you and me.

You and me.

Look at me.

Now tell me who you are.

Who you are.

Well I'd like to say Jamison Collins for you

because I know how important it is to you.

But I'm sorry because I can't.

You see, I'm a very honest person.

I don't believe in such things.

If you gentlemen will excuse me,

I fear it's getting very close to my bedtime.

Goodnight.

It's terrible isn't it?

I've never seen anyone possessed quite like that.

What are we going to do?

Change our tactics.

It seems that what we have done so far

has only amused Count Petofi.

But I have another plan.

This time he won't be quite so amused.

That's right.

I must reach the Rushmore Sanitarium immediately.

It's an emergency.

No, no I don't know the number,

all I know is that my father is there,

and I must speak with him at once.

Yes in Portland.

All right, call me right back.

Hello Charity.

Jamison, are you feeling all right?

Why yes, who told you that I wasn't?

Quentin told me that you weren't feeling very well.

Oh, well I'm fine.

I suppose I should know better than to believe Quentin.

Oh Charity, you are pretty.

CHARITY: What?

I said that you're very pretty.

And I'm so glad that you've come to live with us.

So very glad.

[ phone ringing ]

Hello?

Who?

Where?

Sorry, love, there's got to be some mistake,

I don't know a soul in Portland.

[ eerie music ]

QUENTIN: Who are you?

My name is Charles Delaware Tate.

You may have heard of me.

Oh yes I've heard of you.

Rather surprised to see you.

What are you doing here?

CHARLES: I'm working Mr. Collins.

How do you know me?

Well I've spent the last few hours with you

in a manner of speaking.

You're sketching me?

Oh I intend to do more than a sketch of you,

in fact I'm going to do a full length portrait of you.

QUENTIN: Oh, why is that?

Because somebody commissioned it.

Somebody commissioned you to do a portrait of me?

CHARLES: That's right.

Who, may I ask, is this someone?

Why don't you see for yourself.

I have the letter right here.

My grandmother, Edith, is dead.

Well I'm sorry to hear that.

- When did that happen? - QUENTIN: Quite a while ago.

Well, my, to think that the good lady's dead,

and I'm just now getting around to doing what she wanted.

You know you have a very interesting face.

Yes, sir, I 'm going to enjoy doing your portrait.

The fact is I don't want a portrait done of me.

Now perhaps grandmother did, but she's dead,

so I see no reason for you to do it.

There is. I accepted the commission,

I took money for it.

So I,

you know there are quite a few people, Mr. Collins,

who would enjoy having me do their portrait.

Oh, well paint them, not me.

Well perhaps you'll change your mind

after you see the portrait.

Now I'll be staying--

I'm not going to change my mind.

Suppose you move on your way.

- CHARLES: Look, Mr. Collins-- - Right now.

Good evening Mr. Tate.

I do appreciate the honor.
