- Dawn over Collinwood, and those

that sleep do not even dream over the fate of one

of their family.

A man, left in the woods to die by a woman who

thinks that at dusk he will rise,

inhuman, invincible, as evil as she is,

and that together their nights will last for all eternity.

But in an old house on the estate, another woman who

fears the man's fate, tries desperately

to do something about it.

- Willie, aren't you dressed yet?

- I'm coming, I'm coming.

Julia, I wish you'd tell me what was going on.

- Willie, we must find Barnabas.

Vicky wanted to have everybody out looking.

- Vicky?

- She's been hiding him in the west wing.

He's dying, Willie. - What?

No!

- He's dying.

Vicky came for me.

He had begged her not to.

He had forbidden her to.

- Why, Julia, why?

- Because we're his conscience, Willie, you and I.

He wanted to be free of us.

While Vicky came here for me, he-- he left the room.

He was summoned, Willie.

I know he was forced to leave that room.

- Oh, Julia, you don't know that.

- Oh yes, I do.

Oh, I knew so well the feeling, the sound of those-- those dogs

howling; that voice in your ear urging you out;

the voice saying, "Come to me, come to me."

And now...

Now he's unconscious somewhere.

Dying, perhaps even.

No.

I won't think that.

- Julia.

If he does die, that means he'll be like it was before,

won't it?

Well, who would do this to him, Julia, who?

- Angelique.

Angelique Collins.

[dramatic music]

[eerie music]

- What Angelique?

You-- you say-- you say that like I should know--

know who she is. I don't know any Angeliques.

- Did you ever see that, that, that

portrait that Vicky found in the antique shop?

The one with the blonde woman with the strange, intense eyes?

- Well, yeah, yeah.

- That's Angelique.

Well, what are you talk-- that portrait's

a couple of hundred years old.

You don't expect me to believe--

- Barnabas Collins was married to Angelique.

She is the vampire.

- What?

Well, then we should go and destroy her right now.

- No, Willie.

We've got to find Barnabas first.

- We'll find him, we'll find him.

Well, come on, let's get started.

[eerie music]

[grunts]

- Adam!

Adam!

Nicholas.

It's Nicholas, Adam.

- Nicholas.

- What's happened here tonight?

Adam, you must tell me.

[groans]

Angelique didn't touch you, did she?

- Hmm? - Did she?

- No.

No.

- I bet she did Barnabas.

Will I never learn about Angelique?

Never.

Now here, I want you to drink this.

It will make you feel stronger.

- I'm going to die.

- No, you are not.

[coughs]

Now, can you get up?

Here, let me help.

Now...

now can you talk?

Did you see Angelique after I left last night?

- Yes.

She left after you.

- But she came back, didn't she?

- Yes.

- Barnabas!

[wind howling]

- Barnabas!

- What time did Angelique return?

- Very late.

- And she went out again.

Of course, she did.

And she summoned Barnabas to meet her somewhere.

And shortly after she left, you began

to feel very badly indeed.

- Yes.

I was going to my room.

I stood up, felt weak...

weak.

I-- I don't remember any more.

And Barnabas Collins...

If you feel the way that you do, can Barnabas be dead?

Has she finally succeeded at last?

[suspenseful music]

- Julia, we could go around and keep walking

through these woods forever.

- Well, he was very weak when he left Collinwood.

I know, but if he met her, Angelique--

I mean, she just wouldn't leave him here.

She would've taken him somewhere.

- She had to be in her coffin at dawn.

- Well, then that's where he must be, wherever that is.

- I don't think so, Willie.

Willie, she's not like Barnabas was.

She k*lled Tom Jennings and then just left him in the woods.

She doesn't care what she does.

Come on, let's keep going. - All right, Julia.

Julia. - What?

- Well, it's just that I got this feeling that we're just

not going to find him, that's all.

- I know, Willie, so do I. I have the same feeling.

But Willie, I am not going to give into it

and neither are you.

Now, come on, let's go.

[suspenseful music]

- Was the message on Dr. Lang's tape recorder true?

This strange affinity between Barnabas and Adam...

How far does it go?

Can Adam live and Barnabas be dead?

If Barnabas is dead, will Adam die?

There are no answers, only more questions.

I must find Barnabas.

The mirror.

[dramatic music]

Adam.

Adam!

Adam. - Hmm?

- Have you seen the mirror?

- The mirror?

When?

When Angelique sent you to Collinwood it was there,

was it not?

- I-- I think so, yes.

- She knew what she was going to do to Barnabas.

She didn't want me to find out and she has taken the mirror.

And she lies in her coffin, dead to any questions I might ask.

Well, she will not get away with this.

[wind howling]

- I-- I actually found myself feeling that we'd come home

and find him here.

- Julia, Julia, ain't you forgetting something?

Look, when, when, when Tom Jennings,

when he had you in his power...

Now, I don't mean to remind you that, but Barnabas...

Barnabas, you know how he--

you know how he saved you?

He got the stake, and he got the mallet,

and he went in the daytime.

He went to the coffin, he opened the coffin,

and he put the stake on-- on Tom Jennings' heart--

- And it was as if I had never been bitten.

- Yeah.

Now, if we found out where her coffin was--

- And if he's still alive...

- Yeah, but how are we going to find out?

- Her coffin's at Nicholas Blair's.

- What?

Well how do you know that? - It has to be.

- But are you sure? You're not sure.

- No.

- Well, why would it be at Nicholas Blair's?

All right, I'm not going to ask you any stupid questions,

but I know that Barnabas, he doesn't trust Blair.

- I'll-- I'll have to take that chance.

- Yeah, but, see, Blair, he'll be there.

- Willie, you go get me the stake, and the mallet.

I still have some blood plasma downstairs

from the-- from the experiment.

Now, now hurry, go on.

- All right.

- Adam.

Adam, what is it?

[knocking at door]

[suspenseful music]

Dr. Hoffman!

- May I come in, Mr. Blair?

- Well, actually, it isn't a particularly convenient time.

- I don't imagine that it is but--

but you see, I come for a purpose.

I've come to save Adam, and I think

perhaps you'd better let me in.

[dramatic music]

- Actually, I was wishing there was someone I could call.

He isn't well.

Although I don't know how you knew that.

- Mr. Blair, we're going to have to be

very honest with each other.

- I will enjoy being honest with you, Dr. Hoffman.

- Adam.

- Help... help me.

- Yes, Adam.

Yes, Adam, I'm going to help you.

Mr. Blair and I are both going to help you together.

- I have no healing powers, Dr. Hoffman.

- You won't need them.

You have knowledge.

- And is knowledge better than medicine?

- In this particular case, yes.

Where is the coffin?

- Coffin?

- Where is Angelique's coffin?

[chuckles]

- You'll have to forgive me for being bewildered

but I don't know what you're talking about, doctor.

Am I supposed to have a coffin and know a woman named,

uh, Angelique?

[scoffs]

- Mr. Blair, there's only one way we can save Adam,

and I know you want to save him.

And if it's possible, I want to save Barnabas.

We must go to that coffin.

I have the instrument that will make both healthy again.

[dramatic music]

- Really, doctor, you've, uh, been

reading too many Gothic novels.

- Oh, why do you keep pretending I don't know about you?

- Why do you keep insisting that I'm pretending anything?

- But you are!

God, do you want him to die?

- No!

But evidently you do.

You've done nothing for him since you came into this room.

- He really should have his--

his blood transfusion but we don't

have the proper equipment.

I will give him a series of injections, however.

- You are psychic, doctor.

You are prescribing without an examination.

- You forget, Mr. Blair, that I am an authority

on this particular disease.

Now, if you will roll his sleeves back.

He will only feel a slight sting, that's all.

Mr. Blair, just because I'm doing

this does not mean that I have forgotten the only known cure.

[dramatic music]

[groans]

- Help!

Someone help!

[wind howling]

Help!

Help!

[dramatic music]

Help!

Someone help!

- Barnabas!

- I must warn you, this will provide only temporary relief.

- Well, he does seem much better, doctor.

Thank you.

- Yes.

- But is Barnabas Collins?

That's what you're thinking, isn't it?

- I don't need to admit that to you.

Mr. Blair, I have done everything

I can to make you be honest with me.

- Oh now, doctor, are you going to start that again?

I wish there was some way that I could convince you that I

am not as you have decided.

- You have won again, and I mind very much.

I shall leave...

that.

- A memento of your visit?

- Yes.

- And if you are the wise man I think you

are, then you will use it.

[eerie music]

- Light!

The sun is so bright.

My eyes!

- Oh, Barnabas.

- Let me rest.

Oh, I better take you upstairs.

- No, no.

Let me stay down here.

Close the drapes, Willie.

Please, Willie!

Oh, Barnabas, we almost gave up looking for you

but I decided to try one more time.

And I'm sure glad I did.

Only I'd better go see about Julia.

She may be in trouble at Blair's house.

- Where?

- Well, that's where she is. She...

she...

Hey, Barnabas, how-- how come you--

you never told me that you were married to Angelique?

- Angelique?

Julia knows about Angelique?

- Yes.

[dramatic music]

Yes, I do, Barnabas.

There will be no recriminations.

You're alive.

- I found him in the woods, Julia.

He was-- he was calling.

- Barnabas, you must have a transfusion.

- No, no.

- Yes, yes, I will help you later.

- No.

Why are the days so long?

- Willie...

Willie, go to Collinwood.

Go to my room and use the phone.

Don't use any other phone and don't let anyone else see you.

Call Wyndcliffe and have them send an ambulance

to this house.

- No.

- Yes.

Now hurry, Willie. - No!

No!

- Barnabas.

Barnabas, I will help you stay alive.

She-- she won't know where you are.

You won't be able to leave the hospital.

Barnabas, you're going to Wyndcliffe.

If you stay here, Angelique will k*ll you tonight.

- Dr. Hoffman is right.

There is only one end for Angelique.

She will ruin my plans.

She will k*ll Adam.

She will bring down the master's wrath.

I have warned her and she has not listened.

She became what she is as a punishment.

But now she must be punished again

and this punishment must be the last.

[suspenseful music]

[door creaks]

You will feel no suffering, no pain.

You will cease to exist without ever knowing it.

[coffin creaking]
