you'll have a Gym battle with me?

VOLKNER: Yes! And an electrifying one too!

NARRATOR: With his battle spark reignited, Volkner,

leader of the Sunyshore Gym, accepts Ash's challenge!

NARRATOR: But will Ash

successfully earn his eighth badge?

and Volkner, the Gym Leader, will now get underway!

all three of either side's Pokémon are unable to battle!

put our battle on hold until I figure this out!

VOLKNER: I'm doing all I can.

All right, it looks like the Gym's

been left completely without power!

VOLKNER, FLINT: One, two, go!

FLINT: a*t*matic doors are a pain when they're not a*t*matic.

JENNY: Volkner, we've got problems!!

BROCK: Wow! Officer Jenny!

BROCK: I could never be without power

VOLKNER: The thing is...

Sunyshore City is run entirely on solar power!

VOLKNER: The solar panels, positioned everywhere,

collect the sun's energy and send it to Sunyshore Tower,

which then functions as a power plant for the entire city.

VOLKNER: So that means something must have happened

at Sunyshore Tower!

VOLKNER: I'll investigate. Raichu, quick!

RAICHU: [AFFIRMATIVE]

BROCK, DAWN, ASH, JENNY, VOLKNER, FLINT: [SHOCKED]

PIPLUP: [PANICKED]

DAWN: Look! The tower!

JESSIE: Listen! To the wisdom from the top of the tower!

JAMES: Pure genius!

No matter which tilt the tower takes,

and they can't afford to be without it much longer!

JOY: Which leaves us with only one thing to do!

VOLKNER: Ash... As you can see,

I'm going to need some time before we can have our battle,

but I'll let you know the minute I get things back

in order around here!

ASH: No problem! And in the meantime,

you're going to enter the Grand Festival,
