This is the story of their adventure-filled journey

through the world of Pokémon.

[camera shutter clicks]

[Chloe] Espeon and Umbreon.

[Rotom Phone beeps] Espeon.

The Sun Pokémon. A Psychic type.

When the sun hits the jewel on Espeon's forehead,

it builds up psychic power.

It holds the highest loyalty to an accomplished trainer.

And it is said Espeon obtained its premonition powers to protect them.

[Rotom Phone beeps]

[Rotom Phone] Umbreon. The Moonlight Pokémon. A Dark type.

As a nocturnal Pokémon,

Umbreon's large eyes can distinguish prey

even during the darkest of nights.

When its skin is able to absorb moonlight, the circles on its body faintly glow

and a strange power is awakened.

[gibbers]

[Pikachu and Grookey jabbers]

Eevee's totally interested.

All right. Now, take a look at this.

[Chloe] A castle?

It's called Eclipse Castle.

Eclipse Castle is in the Johto region,

and it has a long history of treating Espeon and Umbreon extremely well.

I really want to see Espeon and Umbreon.

-How about you? -Eevee.

Of course.

You wouldn't wanna miss meeting one of your evolved forms.

Now that's what I thought.

There's actually a solar eclipse happening very soon,

and there's a festival for it at this castle.

[both] Festival?

Doesn't it sound like fun?

-Why not go and see? -[all] Sure.

[Pokémon exclaim]

-[Chloe] "Night and day…" -[Ash and Goh] "…you are the ones."

[all gasp softly]

[Ash] So this is Eclipse Castle.

[Goh] It really has quite an imposing presence up close.

[Chloe] Look at that.

The castle symbol shows Espeon and Umbreon.

[Goh] So cool.

[gaps]

Eevee?

[tranquil music]

[Ash] But why Espeon and Umbreon?

-[Goh] Maybe there's some sort of legend. -[Eevee chitters]

-[Chloe pants] -[Pikachu] Pika?

-[Goh gasps softly] -[Helia] That's exactly it.

[all gasp]

[Helia] Long ago, even longer ago than that

during the eclipse festival

someone wanted the castle for themselves.

They attacked, attempting to replace the castle liege.

And the ones who saved him? His partners, Espeon and Umbreon.

Commemorating their courageous stand,

the liege then had that emblem created.

[both gasp]

[Helia] After all, an eclipse is exactly when the sun and moon align in the sky.

-Oh. You know a lot, don't you? -[chuckles]

Of course I do.

I'm the castle's current liege, you see.

-[Ash and Goh gasp] -[sighs]

[Helia] At least until I retire later today.

[Goh] You're retiring?

-Pika? -[Ash] Huh?

[Ash and Goh] Hold on. Where did Chloe and Eevee go?

Eevee, where are you going?

[both panting]

[birds chirping]

[girl] Great sun, please watch over the festival.

Allow it to take place without any problems,

and thank you for making sure everyone will accept me

as the new liege of the castle.

[whimsical music]

[both gibber]

[girl] Hmm?

[Eevee panting]

[Chloe] Eevee, wait up!

-[leaves rustle] -Eevee!

[both gasp]

[Eevee screaming]

[yelping]

Eve?

-[Eevee] Vee? -Huh?

[whimsical music]

-[Eevee grunts] -[Chloe] Eevee!

[Eevee] Eevee!

-Eevee. -[Chloe] Oh, thank goodness.

[girl] Thank Espeon's precognitive powers.

Thanks so much for…

Uh…

[soft gasp]

-Who are you? -Who are you?

My name's Chloe.

I'm called Soleil.

-Soleil? Wow. -Chloe.

We look alike and our names sound kind of similar too.

[Chloe] We came to the eclipse festival to see Espeon and Umbreon.

[Soleil] Well, thank you.

-So then, you came to meet us? -What?

Uh…

I've got a great idea.

[all gasp]

[Helia] What a surprise.

[Goh] It's not just that you look alike…

You two look like twins.

I feel like I'm in some sort of dream.

[Helia] I'd have trouble telling you apart.

[chuckles] I can see that. Because I'm Soleil.

[all gasp]

See? They don't know who's who.

[Chloe] We're really that much alike.

So you switched your clothes?

I met Chloe on this very important day

when I'm going to become liege of the castle.

So I'm convinced our meeting is absolute destiny.

[gibbers]

[Soleil] It can imitate moves from its evolved forms?

Such a strange Eevee.

Well, you see, it can imitate, yes, but it doesn't evolve.

Although it's true that all Eevee have unstable genes,

it appears to me that this Eevee's genes are especially unstable.

That makes sense.

[Chloe] That's because it's special.

I'd really like my Eevee to be able to choose its own evolutionary form.

So the two of us are doing a lot of research.

I understand.

-That happens to be my thinking too. -[Chloe gasps softly]

The truth is…

they decided to evolve into Espeon and Umbreon themselves.

[Chloe gasps]

[Soleil] With Espeon…

[giggling]

[both gasp]

[screams, grunts]

[Soleil whimpers]

[Soleil sighs] Thank you.

Eevee!

[Soleil] Even when it was an Eevee, it showed me a lot of loyalty.

That may be why it evolved into Espeon.

And that very night…

[laughs]

[screams]

[growls]

[Soleil's Eevee] Eevee!

[grunting]

[grunting, yelping]

[Soleil] I think the other Eevee loved Espeon so much,

it evolved into Umbreon right then and there.

Espeon, strong in sunlight, and Umbreon, whose strength comes from moonlight.

Each one caring deeply for the other,

and expressing that care by shoring up the other one's weakness.

"Shoring up their weakness." Really?

That is care.

[chuckles] That's what people do for each other

as well as people and Pokémon.

[Soleil] Search the world and you'll never find anyone who's perfect.

But if you can shore up somebody's weakness with your strength,

I'm sure it can make it easier to live.

[Soleil] I can't help but feel that way when I look at Espeon and Umbreon.

-[Chloe] Soleil… -Hmm?

[both] You're so cool.

That's why you'll be the liege of the castle.

Your thoughts are so deep. Profound.

[Soleil] Uh… thanks.

Uh, but, if we don't manage to pull off today's festivities,

then I won't be accepted as liege of the castle.

[Chloe] You'll be fine.

I'm sure everyone will accept you.

[chuckles]

[Pokémon gibbering]

There's something I'd like to show you all.

[all gasp softly]

[all] Oh.

[all] Wow.

-Uh… -[Ash and Goh gasp]

Mm-hmm.

[Soleil] The person in the picture was the liege of the castle, Sorin.

They say the moment pictured here was just before he was attacked.

The attacker was the liege's younger brother, Luno.

[all gasp]

His little brother tried to take over?

It's a sad history, huh?

[Soleil] If I become liege of the castle,

I intend to make sure nothing like that ever happens again.

[banging]

[Pokémon gasp]

[all] Huh?

That's the signal for the eclipse festival's start.

I should go get ready now.

And we'll be cheering you on.

[fireworks crackles]

[boy] The day has finally come.

The days of humiliation are over.

[slow suspenseful music]

[all gasp]

-[Pikachu] Pika? -I'm still wearing Soleil's clothes.

Uh, why don't you two go on ahead?

[Ash and Goh] Uh, sure.

[Eevee panting]

[Chloe and Eevee panting]

-[boy] Ariados, use String Shot. -[gasps]

[yelps]

-[grunts] -Eevee!

-[yelps] -Eevee.

Eevee! Eevee! Eevee!

-[Eevee grunting] -[boy] All according to plan.

[Chloe] What are you doing?

Just come along quietly, Soleil.

[gasps]

[gibbers]

-[Chloe] Hey, wait a minute. -Eevee…

[yelps, grunts]

Eevee.

Eevee!

[boy] Noctowl, let's go!

-[Noctowl screams] -[Chloe gasps]

-[Noctowl screams] -Eevee!

[tense music]

[Eevee shouts]

[Ash] Who's that Pokémon?

-Pika? -[Espeon] Espeon.

Pika, pika!

[action music]

[background chatter]

[all exclaim]

[action music continues]

[Soleil] It's almost time, Espeon and Umbreon.

-[Espeon] Esp. -[Umbreon] Umbreon.

-Chloe's taking too long. -Yeah, you're right.

-Pika? -What is it?

-[Ash] Hey. -[Goh] Eevee?

[Eevee gibbers]

[panting]

Something's happened to Chloe.

-[Ash grunts] -[audience cheers]

-[both gasp] -[audience applause]

[doors creak, thud]

[serene music]

-[birds chirping] -[serene music continues]

[Chloe grunting]

[Chloe groans] Soleil's in danger. Soleil.

[Suspenseful music]

[boy gasps] How can this be?

-Use Air Slash! -[soft gasp]

-[Noctowl gibbers] -[Soleil grunts]

[grumbles]

Umbreon.

[boy grunts] You!

How did you get away?

Get away? What does that mean?

[boy] She doesn't know?

So, that girl was a decoy.

A decoy?

Chloe.

What did you do to Chloe?

[boy gasps]

Could they be twins?

Now where's Chloe?

[boy] If you want her back unharmed,

you must announce that I'm the next liege of the castle.

[soft gasp]

And who do you think you are?

Stop, Grandma.

Chloe is…

-[Umbreon snarling] -[Soleil] Umbreon, wait.

-No. Don't do anything until I say so. -Umbreon.

-[man ] What happened? -[man ] What's going on up there?

-[Ash] Chloe? -[Goh] Chloe?

-Chloe? -Chloe?

[soft gasp]

[grunting]

[sobbing]

[tense music]

[Eevee whines]

[tense music continues]

[whimsical music]

[Eevee panting]

[both] Eevee knows where Chloe is.

[ominous music]

[boy] Say it!

Tell them I will be the next liege of the castle.

You're telling the truth that Chloe's all right?

Only while you do as I say.

-What's your name? -[boy] None of your business!

You cannot lead this castle without stating your name.

[tense music]

It's Ilunas.

[gasps]

-Ilunas? -Now make your speech.

[sighs]

-Soleil! -[gasps]

-[Soleil] Chloe? -[all panting]

-Eevee! -[Ilunas yelps]

[Noctowl gibbers]

[all] Soleil. Are you all right?

[grumbles]

Come out here!

[chiming]

[both grunting]

-You ready, buddy? -Pikachu.

Grookey, we've gotta save Chloe and Soleil.

Grookey.

-[Soleil] Goh, Ash, hold it. -[both gasp]

Would you two mind leaving this

-to the two of us? -[soft gasp]

Soleil?

This is the moment when we find out if I'm actually fit to lead this castle.

I'll be leading the castle.

[Soleil grunts]

I think it's time we talk this out. Please?

I am not doing that. No way!

Ariados, Poison Jab.

Noctowl, Wing Attack.

Ursaring, use Hammer Arm.

[Pokémon growl]

All right then, Espeon, Reflect.

-Umbreon, you use Snarl. -[Umbreon snarls]

[Pokémon yelp]

[Pokémon gasp]

Eevee!

[both growling]

Ariados, use String Shot.

-[gasps] -Eevee, dodge and use Tackle.

[Eevee gibbers]

-[Ariados grunts] -[Eevee screams]

-Ariados, Pin m*ssile. -Espeon, use Reflect once more.

[grunting]

[Eevee grunting]

Look at that.

-Is that Eevee's strange power? -It sure is.

Now use Reflect.

[Ariados grunts]

Eevee!

[grumbles]

-That's amazing. Espeon, use Wish. -Espe.

-Umbreon, Dark Pulse. -Umbre.

Noctowl, use Air Slash. Ursaring, use Slash.

[howls]

[Umbreon screams]

[Noctowl shouts, yelps]

-Umbre? -[Ursaring yells]

[Umbreon yelps]

[chimes]

[Umbreon gibbers]

Espeon's Wish healed the damage Umbreon took.

It's just like Soleil said. They support each other.

[both gasp]

[Goh] The total eclipse has begun.

[Soleil gasps softly]

-My big chance. -Your big chance?

Mm-hmm.

[Soleil] Sunlight powers up Espeon.

And moonlight powers up Umbreon.

During a total solar eclipse,

the once-in-a-lifetime chance for both to get stronger occurs.

Forget it. Now, Ariados, Pin m*ssile.

Noctowl, you use Air Slash.

Use Hammer Arm, Ursaring.

Eevee. [gasps]

[Chloe] You want to imitate Umbreon, don't you?

Eevee.

[Ariados screams]

[Noctowl shrills]

[Ursaring shouts]

Eevee, use Dark Pulse.

[Eevee gibbering]

[Eevee screams]

[blasting]

[Pokémon yelp]

[action music]

Espeon, use Psychic. Umbreon, Dark Pulse.

[Espeon and Umbreon shriek]

[Pokémon screaming]

[all grunting]

[all gasp]

[Ash and Goh] All right!

Ursaring. Noctowl. Ariados. No.

[both chuckle softly]

[Eevee pants]

[Pokémon gibber]

[trilling]

[grunts]

[Soleil] Ilunas?

Grandma looked for you for such a long time. She did.

[soft gasp]

Since olden days,

the people of this castle have been named after the moon and sun.

The name Soleil is from the sun.

And Sorin is from the sun too.

His little brother's name was Luno.

And you? The name given to you is Ilunas.

[Soleil] You're a descendant of Luno, right?

[sucks teeth]

So what if I am?

[Ilunas] It's humiliating

that my ancestor tried to lead the castle and failed.

I've had to live my entire life in hiding.

So I made a decision out of rage.

I decided that one day,

I'd come take over the castle and be the liege.

[Helia] I finally found you.

My research showed me there was somebody out there named Ilunas.

[Helia sighs] I beg your forgiveness.

If I had only found you earlier,

you might have been saved so much pain.

What are you talking about?

-[thuds] -Huh?

-[gasps] -Attention, please!

I'm about to make a very important announcement.

Listen up!

What in the world are you going to say?

From this day forward, I am to be the liege of Eclipse Castle.

[crowd cheers and applauds]

[Soleil] And Ilunas has agreed to help with this most important work.

We may not be what you expected, but we'll do our very best.

-[crowd cheers] -[Ilunas grunts]

Since when did I agree with that?

Oh, lighten up.

If we go back several generations,

you and I are practically brother and sister.

I don't need pity.

-This isn't pity. -[Ilunas gasps]

Grandma and I have been waiting forever for our long-lost moon to return to us.

[Soleil] You see, we're kind of like Espeon and Umbreon.

We think we should live life,

so that our strengths shore up our loved ones' weaknesses.

[Soleil] This castle's very much the same way.

Sun and moon. Day and night.

It's by putting them both together

that we can start spreading peace throughout the world.

Nothing good comes from holding unending grudges.

It's no fun getting stuck in things from the past.

Let's change what we can change.

We can't move forward after all if we don't.

[uplifting music]

[chuckles]

I think we are gonna be good friends.

[Ilunas grunts] That hurts.

[Chloe chuckles]

[crowd cheers and applauds]

[narrator] And so, Eevee and Chloe learned a valuable lesson

from Espeon, Umbreon, and Soleil.

We'll have to see what kind of Evolution awaits them,

as the journey continues.
