CHAMBLISS: This episode
is called "The Portrait".

The episode is kind of bookended

by Strand getting a portrait
painted of himself

and then him hanging this portrait.

It really speaks to the way.

Strand is starting to view himself

the way he wants other people
to view him.

I want a portrait of me.

Can you do that?

Yes, sir.

I mean, not what you see, but who I am.

Also, it speaks to the way
Strand thinks he is able

to see everyone else
and judge who they are

just by trusting his gut,
and it's something

that's going to bite him
in the ass in this episode.

- [COUGHS]
- Victor?

CHAMBLISS: We said
this was gonna be the season

where Strand was kind of unleashed,

and we'd see Strand at his...
For lack of a better word...

His Strandiest.

What is it?

Howard has put his full faith in Strand

and believes in everything he's doing,

but, this episode, we start to see

Howard question Strand.

Those people had skills we could use.

Is that what you think I do?

Check skills off a list?

When I look at a person,
I can tell you who they are.

I can see what other people don't.

Listening to my instincts
is what got us this far.

This is where Strand
is starting to really

kind of descend into his own ego.

I feel very bad for the portrait artist

because no matter who he got
to paint that portrait,

I don't think he would've liked it.

ARTIST: I don't understand.
What's wrong?

It's actually the thing that sets him

on the path in this episode,

'cause immediately after
throwing the portrait off,

he tells Howard...

Raise Morgan. Send a patrol
to find him if you must.

Tell him he can enter.

- Why?
- You heard me!

Howard's a bit confused.

He doesn't understand why Strand
would bring Morgan into tower.

It is, in fact, because he's lonely,

because he needs an equal in here,

but that equal isn't Morgan.

That equal is, in fact, Alicia.

Man, why'd you let me in here?

And the only reason he wanted
Morgan to come in here

is because he thinks Morgan's the person

who can go out into the world,
find Alicia,

- and convince Alicia to come back.
- Alicia?

Strand, even when he's embraced
who he is completely,

he still needs what everyone else needs,

and that's companionship,
that's... that's love.

Colman really got to embrace

everything he has brought
to the character.

- Hey, June.
- On the other hand, we have Lennie,

who is playing Morgan
in a very desperate place.

JUNE: I've already got her on
the pain meds and the Amoxicillin,

but we should keep her here
for observation

until we know
the antibiotics are working.

How long will that take?

, hours.

CHAMBLISS: But as long as he
is centered and in his right mind,

he really does adhere
to moral principles.

But this episode sees him
take a big step,

because he tries to take Strand's life

when one could argue
there are other ways

to navigate that situation.

- [THUD]
- [WALKER GROWLING]

What the hell?

Catapulting walkers
filled with expl*sives

was actually an idea that
we had back in Season .

We were looking for a way
that Arno could attack the tower

that could circumvent the moat

that Strand has built with walkers,

and then we were trying to find a way

that Arno could do more damage

than just getting walkers inside.

We found a warhead out here.

The other thing we were looking for

was a way to pay off the warhead

that the Stalkers found
a couple episodes ago.

If they pack these walkers

with radioactive material
from the bombs,

they could, in fact, render the tower

just as dangerous as the land out there.

You have one hour.

[RUMBLING, SCREAMING]

[COUGHING, GAGGING]

Victor, you were right.
You were poisoned.

Strand getting poisoned kind of
at the worst possible time,

it really is about what can happen

when you're trying to do
everything on your own,

and it's really putting Strand
in this position

where his paranoia is allowed to grow.

You think we poisoned you?

Someone in the tower did.

Victor, it's me.

I-I've been with you
since the beginning.

Ironically, Strand's mind doesn't go

to one of the most obvious places.

If it's not the Stalkers,
maybe it's Morgan.

Better get at it.

The fact that Strand
isn't able to see this

- is the thing that's so unnerving to Strand...
- It was you.

because he has built this tower

entirely on his instincts.

If I was wrong about Morgan,

who else was I wrong about?

He essentially says, "If I feel like

I can't trust the people around me,

then I'm only gonna trust me",

and it really is going to become
the beginning

of Strand becoming a bit more ruthless

than we've seen him be.

♪ ♪

Take him to the roof.

Strand is fully embracing his dark side.

He's not gonna be fooled again.

- It must be done.
- [GRUNTS]

CHAMBLISS: He has been walked all over,

and he's come out of it
stronger on the other side.

Show Mr. Jones the exit.

♪ ♪

MORGAN: I just told your people

I don't want any trouble.

I didn't bring you here
to cause trouble.

When Morgan meets Alicia,
I think there are

a lot of questions hanging over that.

Where has she been,
why isn't she in the bunker,

what happened in the bunker,

and who are all these people she's with?

MAN: All hands!

CHAMBLISS: And those are all
some pretty big questions,

but Morgan doesn't get
a chance to answer any of them

because, before he can,

some of those walkers
who we were warned about

who had escaped from the tower

who were packed with nuclear material,

they show up at the encampment,

and they end up exploding
before Morgan can get

a single answer to any of the questions.

Don't sh**t! Don't!

[g*nf*re]

Everybody, run!

And what that really means
is that Morgan and everyone else

is just gonna have to wait until
the next episode to find out.
