[jazz band playing]

Hey, there you are.

Thomas?

Where have you been?

You said there'd be food.

Real cool party.

Your son is getting "hangry."

Yeah, let's go, you ready?

Listen up! Everyone stay right where you are.

All electronic devices must be unlocked and handed over immediately.

Evan, what's going on?

There must've been a security breach.

Aaron, what are you doing?Whoa, whoa.

Just following orders, Mr. Myers.

Step back and wait your turn.

Everybody stop talking.

We got a tattoo hit. There was a data breach at a national research facility.

Electro Velocity Center or EVC.

They build robotic spacecraft.

It's real life Star Wars over there.

Shouldn't this be an FBI Cyber case?

It was, until we discovered that one of the stolen files links to a tattoo.

It's a series of numbers that connects to a classified government project.

So classified they're refusing to tell us about it.

I'll get us clearance. In the meantime we do have a lead.

CSU found this Bluetooth Transmitter lodged in a pipe.

It paired with an air-gapped network of computers on the 25th floor of EVC.

Someone used this transmitter to transfer files to a hard drive that is still unaccounted for.

We do have a list of all the people that were in the building when the breach occurred.

Apparently EVC was throwing a 50th anniversary party.

So there are a lot of suspects all currently under house arrest.

The devices were confiscated so hopefully one of the stolen files will show up on one of them.

Okay, let's dig in.

Hey, where are Jane and Weller?

[Jane] Look, I know this is hard.

It might help to talk about it.

So, you really didn't know about my mom?

That she was part of my mother's t*rror1st organization?

That is my mother.

I had no idea that your mother was one of her informants.

I guess it makes sense.

Shepherd was looking for a way into my life.

My mom was a soft target.

You've never talked much about your mom.

There's not much to say.

She's an addict.

She made bad choices.

I cut off contact years ago.

Has she ever been to rehab?

I offered to pay for it.

Drove her out there myself.

She wouldn't do it.

It's a bad idea. We should go.

Wait, look, if it were me, you would tell me to not run from my problems.

And that we would get through this together, right?

Kurt?

Hi.

Hi, Mom.

I just got clearance to open the stolen classified files from EVC.

[beeping]

Take a look.

All right, so according to this, EVC launched a satellite last week that... Oh my God.

Can this be right?

What? What is it?

EVC weaponized a satellite.

It's equipped with live missiles that can be launched from space.

It's real life Star Wars just like I said.

Wait, does that make us the Rebels or the Empire?

Is there a specific target?

Uh...

According to this, no. It's still in its

"testing phase" but it is fully operational.

Uh, guys, I just skipped ahead to the really bad part.

The files that were stolen last night contain the launch codes for these missiles.

Which means whoever has them can launch a nuclear strike on any country they choose.

With no way to stop it.

♪♪

I'm sorry to keep you waiting.

I had to convince my boss that a surprise visit from my son and his beautiful wife was worth a five-minute break.

We need to ask you some questions.

Oh, honey, humor me with a little small talk first, please.

We're not here to socialize, Mom.

Uh, Mrs. Weller--

No, no, call me Linda.

We're family.

Do you know this woman?

Yeah, that's Ellen.

Why do you-- why do you...

When did you meet her?

Five years ago, maybe?

Time gets a little fuzzy as you get older.

Uh, can you tell us a little bit more about your relationship?

You know, we met at a bar.

We talked until they closed it up and they kicked us out.

From then on we-- we've been friends.

That's the story you're gonna go with?

Well, it's-- it's the truth.

Ellen and I had a lot in common.

Your "friend" Ellen was a t*rror1st named Shepherd.

I don't understand.

Linda, she wasn't just having innocent heart-to-heart talks with you.

Shepherd was cultivating you as an asset to gain intel on Kurt.

That's you entering a building which is known to be part of Shepherd's t*rror1st cell.

You entered that building using a key.

I can explain that. Okay.

A couple of weeks ago I got a-- um... an envelope from Ellen's lawyer.

And inside it was a key and a letter telling me to go to that building and pick up some money she left me in her will.

[Jane] This was Shepherd's plan.

She gave both of us keys.

She wanted us to find each other.

[door bell jingles]Oh...

Uh, um, I, I should...

I should get back to work.

Can I help you?

You're in my way, chief.

Actually, I'm not a chief. I'm a special agent.

Then you should flash that thing at her.

She's the real criminal.

Guess I'll come back another time.

What have you gotten yourself into this time?

Hey, did you hear? Weller and Jane are back with his mom.

Trying to stop an imminent nuclear threat.

Don't really have time to gossip right now.

What, did they arrest her?

She wasn't in cuffs when they brought her into the conference room.

[alert chirps]

This is really, really bad.No, I know.

Kurt really didn't luck out in the parenting department.

No, uh, I was referring to this.

I just finished going through the data on the last device confiscated from the EVC party.

The stolen files aren't on any of them.

So they didn't stop the breach.

Oh, I see how that's problematic.

What do you got?

Uh, the launch codes to an armed and very dangerous satellite were stolen last night.

That thing deploys missiles from space?

[Patterson] It's called an Orbital Strike Satellite.

Created in complete secrecy by a company called Electro Velocity Center, along with the DOD.

We're trying to figure out which of the 100 plus people in the building stole the launch codes.

But so far the stolen files aren't on any of the devices.

The thief could've swallowed a small flash drive.

That's true, one time I ingested half million dollars' worth of Bitcoin.

Let's just say the return on that particular investment was sub-optimal.

I'd hide the flash drive inside the building.

Wait until the heat dies down, then sneak it out that way.

I'll send teams back to EVC.

I'll work my old CIA channels.

All right, we'll check the dark web for any possible sales.

Hey, we got this under control.

You should get back to your mom and Jane.

Wanna sit down?

Jason knows you're a fed.

He's gonna think I'm ratting him out.

So, Jason, he said that I should arrest you.

Why?

Linda, we want to help you.

But we need to know what's going on.

A few years ago, I had a fall.

I ended up in the hospital.

The doctor prescribed Oxycontin.

When the prescription ended, I was still in pain.

I had to find another way to get the pills.

That's when I met Jason.

So he's your dealer.

Oxy isn't cheap.

I ran up a debt with Jason and I couldn't pay him back.

He said if I made a simple delivery for him, then we'd be even.

So you're a drug mule?

[whispers] Kurt.No, no...

That's the problem. I couldn't go through with it.

I was so scared and I thought the police were following me.

So I, I dumped the pills at a rest stop.

How much do you owe him?

$100,000.

I don't know what I'm gonna do.

Why don't you go to rehab? Commit to getting sober.

I want to. Yeah.

No, I do.

But I have to pay Jason back.

What-- so you're gonna make it in tips?

Is there, um... is there a restroom?

Alex, escort this lady to the restroom.

Don't let her out of your sight.

I don't need a chaperone, Kurt.

I said that you do.

That woman... has put me through so much pain.

My entire life.

Well, you have every right to be angry.

But, Kurt, she's in danger.

And she's family. We can't just turn our backs on her.

Fine.

So, I'll call the office in Philly.

See if they can get this Jason guy off the streets.

Stop him being a threat.

I'll take Linda to our apartment.

Get a protective detail on her.

It'll buy us some time to figure out our next steps.

It's gonna be okay.

All right, just heard from the team at EVC headquarters.

So far Weller's theory of the hard drive being hidden there is not panning out.

Okay, well, we're doing a little bit better over here.

Ten employees swiped their ID badges in the restricted area within the hour before the launch codes were stolen.

Agent Woods is tracking them down.

Uh, why is Agent Woods tracking them down?

'Cause I have something very concerning to tell you.

Uh, more concerning than weaponized satellites?

Well, you tell me.

I set up a federal inmate notification app on my phone.

Yeah, there's an app for that.

And I just got an alert about Kathy.

Like, our Kathy?

Evan Myers got special permission to have his house arrest lifted so that he could give a presentation at EVC HQ and he never showed up.

We spoke to Evan's wife and she said that Evan left home this morning with their son Thomas.

He was supposed to drop him off at school.

But Thomas never made it.

Thomas is diabetic. And last year he got a new insulin pump and it's super high-tech.

Does it store data?

A small amount, but yes.

[Rich] It's also Bluetooth compatible. And the kid was at the party.

It's gotta be the hard drive that we're looking for.

Evan must've known that security wouldn't confiscate a medical device.

Just got off the phone with Keaton.

CIA caught chatter between a few Russian operatives.

They were talking about obtaining control of a weaponized satellite from one of their assets.

[Reade] There's your asset.

The Russians get a hold of those launch codes...

They'll have the power to decimate any country they want.

We need to know where Evan's headed next.

If he's a foreign agent, he's gotta have some trace on his devices somewhere.

We just cracked his hard drive.

Looks like he deleted a ton of data from his laptop last night, or... tried to.

We recovered a Word doc with a bunch of dates and times on it, and the initials "NB" next to a bunch of them.
