It is so good to see you.

I'm on my way

to the Woodland Valley
General Store

to pick up
a few groceries and...

[sniffing]

Wait a minute.
What's that smell?

It smells like... [sniffing]

sunshine!

[sniffing]

Hm?

[gasps] It's you!

[sniffing] Oooo!

Tell me,
have you been playing outside?

Cause you have that
warm 'sunshiney' smell.

[sniffing] Aaaah!

Or maybe you smell this
good all --

-Hey Bear!
-Aaahh!

-Pip, Pop, you scared me.
-[chuckles] Really?

You'd think he'd
be used to that by now.

Uh, guys?

So what are you two up to today?

Well, Bear,
it is a beautiful spring day.

When a young otter's fancy
turns to thoughts of...

Baseball!

-[surprised] Baseball?
-Yeah, Bear.

-"He's safe!" "Foul ball!"
-"He's out!" "Swing and a miss!"

-"Going, ... going..."
-"Gone!"

We love baseball!

And we want to play in the park.

Yeah and if you're not busy,
we could use you.

Oh, sure,
I'd love to play with you guys.

The Otters and I have
been playing catch

since they were little.

But Bear it's not ''catch."

It's baseball.

We just need you
to take us to the park.

-Yeah!
-Oh, okay sure, no problem.

But if you ever need an extra
paw, I'm your bear.

In fact,

I remember back

when I was in Hazelnut
High School, I was...

Beeeear! Can we go now! !
Pleeease?

Sure guys. We'll go to the park
and then on our way back,

I need to stop off at the store.

[gasps]

The Store!

Really!

Can we come too!

We love shopping!

Especially for--

Baseball cards!

-Wow!
-See, Bear,

we have
all our favorite players.

This is quite the collection.

Oh.

Baseball cards are pictures
of baseball players.

But it also has all
their facts written on them.

Like how fast they throw a ball

or hit a ball or catch a ball.

Yeah, you've got to be a really
big hero

to have your own baseball card.

Ooo, nicely done Pip.

-Why, thank you.
-Yeah.

Hey, do you know what a hero is?

Well, a hero is someone
you admire

-for doing something great,
-Hm-mmm

like...

A baseball player!

Whoa!

Yes! But a hero could be
different things.

A hero could be...

an astronaut...

Whoa!

Or a police
officer or a firefighter...

[sirens]

But a hero doesn't have to be --

Hey, Bear!
You wanna know who our hero is?

Well... sure!

Well... He's kinda furry...

That's right. And really cool...

Aw, guys,

It's Ferret Jeeter!

Ferret Jeeter, but I know...

He's the greatest
baseball player ever.

Shortstop for the Sequoia
City Big Bats.

Yes, guys! I know, I know him!

Well sure Bear.

Who hasn't heard
of Ferret Jeeter?

He can do it all!

[cheering]

Pip, Pop, breathe in.

[inhalation]

Good morning, Jeremiah.

Pip and Pop are interested
in a specific baseball card.

-Uh-huh.
-Oh!

-That's it! ! !
-Yep. That's Ferret all right.

Uhm, I know him.

Hey, who doesn't?

He's 'The Ferret.'

That's pretty obvious,
what with the ears and such...

According to these records

he plays even better than
he did back in high school.

Hey, it says here that he went
to '' Hazelnut High.

Hey! That sounds like
the school you went to, Bear.

Well, that's because it is.

[gasps]

They graduated the very same...

Yeah!

Yep. That's true, Jeremiah.

Bear,
you 've been near greatness!

greatness all this time.

[cheering]

Bear is calling Ferret,

We're gonna meet the Ferret!

Oh, erm...

Yes. Is this the stadium
for the Sequoia City Big Bats?

Oh, Great.

Um... I'd like to speak to...

Ferret Jeeter, please.

Well, I know him.

He's the Ferret. ' Right.

Um, could you just tell

[gulp] 'Bear' calling?

Oh!

No just "Bear" .

Ferret
knows him by his first name!

-Whoa!
-Shh. Quiet.

Hello?

Bear? Is it really you?

Ferret?
Hey! It's good to hear you!

So, how ya doin'?

Hey you tell me?

What do I smell like?

[laughter]

It's really him!

I'm never washing
this ear again.

Hey Ferret, I'm living
over here Woodland Valley,

and if you ever passing through

it would be
great to see you again.

Well we are playing
a home game tonight but,

I think I got time
this afternoon.

Uh, that is if you're free.

-He's FREEl!
-He's FREE!

[chuckles] Uh, it seems like I'm
free this afternoon!

Meet me at the otter pond,

it's right behind
the Big Blue House.

Sounds great!
You got it old buddy.

Great, it will be
so good to see you

and maybe could
play a little catch!

-Ok, I'll see you later. Bye!
-Okay.

One question I'm gonna
ask him is,

"Mr. Ferret Jeeter, sir, how
do you catch a ground ball?"

-Good one.
-Why, thank you.

"A grounder" that's easy.

You bend your knees and-

Well, I'm gonna ask "Oh
great athletic one,

--how do you hit a home run?"

Ah! "A homer."

You got to lean into it...

And "what's a screwball pitch?"

-Oh, that's easy...
-And "a knuckle ball?"

Oh, you hold the ball
like this--

And "what's a southpaw?"

Hello?

-Hey Bear?
-Can we ask you a question?

Sure.

When's Ferret getting here?

[sighs]

Soon.

I hope.

Yo, Bear!

[elated]
Ferret, my main critter!

[chuckles]

Ferret,

I would like you
to meet my friends

and your biggest fans.

-This is Pip.
-Hi Pip.

-And this is Pop.
-Hi Pop.

[stammering] Hummana,
hummana, hummana...

They say "hi".

And they have a lot
of questions for you.

-Right, guys?
-Hm-mm.

Uh-huh...

Like... how do you
hit a home run?

Oh, ah, anyway that I can.

[chuckles]

Remember?

Oh yeah!

That game back in high school

when that pitcher kept throwing
you nothing but 'spit balls.

Well, he was a camel.

[chuckles]

Yeah, that's true.

-I'm Pip...
-Home run...

And they also want to know...

How do you catch a grounder?

Grounder...

Well, you could have asked Bear.

[gasps]

[chuckles]

Bear...

Why not?

A great athlete with a great
sense of humor, too.

Yeah. You see Bear
knows a lot of "stuff,

like cooking and how
to get balls out of trees.

And he's really a pro with that
"sniffing" thing he does.

Yeah, but he doesn't know
that much about baseball.

[chuckles]

Since when?

Well...

Well, have you
ever asked him about baseball?

Well--

No.

Well, I think it's time
for a little history lesson.

Bear, you still have
that old Hazelnut High yearbook?

Uhm, yeah.

It's back at the Big Blue House.

C'mon.

Pssst. Pssst.
Hey Bear, who's the ferret?

Oh Tutter, this is my old
friend Ferret Jeeter.

Ferret,
this is Tutter, Ojo and Treelo.

-Hi.
-Hi.

Ferret Jeeter, the shortstop
for the Sequoia City Big Bats?

Yeah, that's me.

Well, you mean the
same Ferret Jeeter

who played a hundred
and thirty-five games

without missing a ground ball?

The same.

Whoa, that's good Ojo.

Thanks.

So, whaddaya say Bear

let's take
a look at the yearbook here.

Sure!

Bear? What a yearbook?

Oh, well

a yearbook is a book
you get in high school.

And it's filled with lots of
pictures

to help you remember
what it was like back then.

[chuckles] Yeah, yeah.

And we're talkin' way back when.

Waaaaay back!

Just look at these pictures.

Look! There's Ferret!

You even played
baseball in high school!

A natural.

Yeah but,
who's that next to him?

[gasps] It's Bear!

You played baseball

with Ferret Jeeter?

He did more than that, guys.

Let me tell you
about "the big game."

♪ There musta been

♪ Sitting in the stands ♪

♪ The sun b*at down so hot ♪

♪ Your ice cream melted
in your hands ♪

♪ Everyone who was there
that day ♪

♪ Had come to cheer ♪

♪ For Acorn High or Hazelnut ♪

♪ In the last game of the year ♪

♪ Now Acorn high
had pulled ahead ♪

♪ We were trailing Oto 2 ♪

♪ But when Ron Raccoon
Hit a single into right ♪

♪ Up next was you-know-who. ♪

♪ I grabbed my bat
And I looked around ♪

♪ And I scowled at the pitcher
And I spat on the ground ♪

♪ The pitch was coming
And I swallowed my gum ♪

♪ But I hit that ball
To kingdom come! ♪

♪ Oh what a game
oh, what a game ♪

♪ No one who saw it
Was ever the same ♪

♪ Oh, what a game ♪

The score was 2 to 2, right?

Right!

♪ But Acorn's batters
Had their batteries charged ♪

♪ And they scored four runs
in the second ♪

[gasps]

♪ But we weren't out
Of the old ballgame, ♪

♪ Like Acorn High had reckoned ♪

♪ 'Cause Lou Giraffe
Drove one run in ♪

♪ And then Bobby Fox
got a pair ♪

♪ And in the bottom
of the ninth ♪

♪ We were down 6-5
And everyone... ♪

♪ Was counting on Bear ♪

-Bear?
-Sure --

Hazelnut's star slugger!

Whoa!

♪ The first pitch comes
Like a r*fle sh*t ♪

-[whoosh]
-Strike one!

♪ And he swings at the next one
With all he's got ♪

-[whoosh]
-Strike two!

And the third pitch comes
right down the pipe.

It's Bear's pitch
and he knows it.

He's got his eye on the ball,
and he leans in,

putting all of his weight

behind a beautiful swing
that pulls the ball left.

It's is going up and up
and up and I can't believe it!

This is incredible!
Home run! Home run!

♪ That ball is going into
the parking lot! ♪

[crowd's cheering]

♪ Oh what a game
Oh, what a game ♪

♪ Bear got his name
In the hall of fame ♪

♪ Oh, what a game ♪

THE CHAMPIONSHIP OF
HAZELNUT HIGH

Bear!

How come you never told us?

[shyly] Oh ... well, you know...

You were the hero of the game!

You totally saved the day,

I mean you were the best
player on the whole team.

Uh... sorry, Ferret.

[chuckles] That's okay.

And let me tell you
a little secret.

You don't have to make a million
clams a year to be a hero.

In fact, some of the
biggest heroes around

are regular folks...

parents, teachers, friends,

or maybe just a big ol' bear

who takes care of the people
he cares about,

if you know what I mean.

Aw, Ferret...

Whoaaaaa...

So, if you guys ever need
someone to play catch with,

or if you need anything else...

he's your bear.

-Oh.
-Yeah.

-Right.
-We knew that.

In fact, we play catch
with Bear all the time!

And other stuff.

Ever since we were little.

Right, Bear!

[chuckles]

Right guys.

Well I better get back.

We're playin' tonight.

Say,

you all wouldn't be
interested in coming would you?

[gasps]

As my guests.

Gee, Ferret, um...
I don't know, um...

Would anyone here be
interested in going

to see Ferret and
his team play baseball tonight?

-We do!
-Count me in!

-Me too!
-Yea! ! !

[laughter]

Then I guess it's time to take
you all out to the ball game.

-Come on!
-Yeah!

Almost done.

I think a little more
magenta might be nice.

-Hm...
-Hm...

-Ah, hey you guys!
-Bear! Bar!

So, did you have
a great time tonight?

Oh Bear, it was great!

The roar of the peanuts,
the smell of the crowd.

We love baseball!

[laughter]

So you've said.

So, since you do... I thought
maybe you'd like to have these.

[gasps]

Baseball cards!

-Really!
-Hm-mmm

Bear! You played baseball

AND
collected baseball cards, too?

My whole world has
been rocked today.

See, these are some of the
players

me and Ferret admired
when we were your age.

Oh! Look Pop they're
really old ones!

That's Joe DiMagpie.

Ooo!

And that's 'Willie Neighs.

And that's 'Jackie Robinsegg'!

And don't forget. Him.

[gasps] Ferret
Jeeter's rookie card.

Yep.

The very first one.

Wow, Bear! Oh, thanks.

Oh yeah, that's great, Bear,
but, you know, Bear,

we have something for you too.

-Really?
-Oh yes we do!

Oh! What could it be?

Here!

[gasps] Oh! Wow!

My very own baseball card!

Yeah. And check out your stats,
Bear.

Read it.

oh, um...

Sniffing, 1000...

[chuckles]

Hugging, ... uh... right now?

Huh?

Oh!

[touched] Oh, I get it.
Thanks guys.

[chuckles]

Well,

you gotta be a really big hero

to have your very
own baseball card.

And Bear, we never did get
to play baseball today.

So,

could you take us
to the park tomorrow?

And play with us?

Sure! I'd love to.

Yeah!

And show us some of those
moves you did in high school.

That's right!
We want to learn from the best!

-Oh, we had a very exciting day.

My old friend Ferret
Jeeter came to visit.

You mean 'The' Ferret Jeeter?

Oh,
he's quite the baseball player.

Yeah-- huh,

Luna, you know about Ferret?

I didn't know you
liked baseball, too.

Why of course I do.

Being the moon, I've seen
quite a few night games played.

Well Ferret invited
us to tonight's game.

It was great.

And so was he.

Oh, I know.

That was some catch he made
in the eighth inning.

[chuckles]

Yep, he's even better than
he was back in Hazelnut High.

He showed Pip & Pop a few moves

and then we showed them our old
yearbook

and told them about...

The 'Big Game. [chuckles]

If I recall Bear,

you were quite the baseball
player, yourself.

I bet Pip and Pop
were very impressed.

[humbly] Oh, it was nice.

Umhm.

They even gave me my own
rookie baseball card.

Well, you deserve it, Bear.

You're such a good
friend and neighbor

to those around you.

A real hero.

Aw, Luna, I don't know...

Don't sell yourself short, Bear.

Although, I don't suppose
you could ever do that...

You're too big!

[chuckles]

Well, Luna,
