[deep breaths]

It's so good to see you again.

You know, I thought
I saw you coming up the path.

Well, come on in.

You're just in time.

Today's going to be a terrific
day here in the Big Blue House.

Did you know that Tutter
is going to Mouse School

for the first time this year?

So his new teacher,
Miss Maxwell,

is coming by to meet him.

Sort of a 'meet and greet.'

And for the occasion,
I'm baking a--

humph?

Wait a second.

What's that smell?

It smells like [sniff] toast
with blueberry jam and butter.

[sniff]

Hm?

[snif]

[gasps] It's you!

Oooh, tell me, did you
have toast with blueberry jam

and butter this
morning for breakfast?

[sniff]

Or maybe you just smell
this good all the time.

[chuckles]

Well come on! You can help me
get started on the cake.

Now then, everything we need
to bake the cake is right here.

Including the cookbook.

I use a cookbook
to follow each step.

That's how I make the cake.

Now, let's see.
Step one: Pour in sugar.

-Hi, Bear!
-Ahhh!

-Hi, Treelo.
-Whatcha doin', Bear?

Well, making a cake
for Tutter's teacher.

Teacher?

What a teacher, Bear?

Oh. Good question.

Hey,
do you know what a teacher is?

Teacher.

Well, a teacher is someone
who helps you to learn!

Schools have lots of teachers,
like Miss Maxwell.

Hey! [chuckles]

But, anyone
who shows you something

that you didn't know before...

that's a teacher.

In fact,
if you show someone something

they didn't know
how to do before,

then you're a teacher too!

Treelo teacher? [gasp]

That mean Treelo
have cake, Bear, mmmm.

Yes, Treelo. I mean no.
I mean, not yet.

You see I've just started.
The cake isn't even done yet.

-I have to follow each step.

Hey! I have an idea.

If you watch me, I'll teach you.

Oh!

Bear teacher too!

Well thank you,
Treelo, that's very nice of you.

Now then.
Step one... I pour in sugar.

Okay! Now, Bear!

Now can Treelo have some, Bear?

No, no, no, no, Treelo, not yet.

You see, we still have
to follow some more steps.

Oh!

Now can Treelo?

-Huh? Huh? Huh?
-[chuckles]

No not yet Treelo.

Now we have to break four eggs.

TUTTER: Mph!
-Ahh!

What was that?

TUTTER: Mrrrgh!

Bear, look!

Huh?

How did this pineapple--

TUTTER [muffled]: Mmmumph!

Bear? Pineapple alive.

Uh, alive?
I don't think so, Treelo.

Ahh!

Oh! Hi, Bear! Hi, Treelo!

Tutter, what are you doing?

Well, I wanted to do
something nice for my teacher

when she comes, Bear,
so I thought I'd give her this.

You know, 'a pineapple
for the teacher.' [chuckles]

Ah, don't you mean an
apple for the teacher, Tutter?

Well sure, Bear, sure.
But this is better.

Cause it's a pineapple.

Pine plus apple.

So it's more.
And more is better, right?

More is better right?

TUTTER [mocking]:
More is better, right?

Well, I think
in this case Tutter,

more might be a little too much.

Well, I really want to do
something special for her, Bear.

Uhm.

Well, Tutter, I'm just about
to bake a cake for Miss Maxwell

so tell you what.

How 'bout we put your
pineapple in with my cake

and we make a pineapple
upside down cake?

What a great idea, Bear!

Wow, Miss Maxwell's
gonna love that!

Ha ha! Oh boy, oh boy! Oh!

Thank you, Bear.

-You're welcome, Tutter.
-Bye.

Now, the next step...

breaking four eggs.

TUTTER [very loud]: Bear!

Yes, Tutter.

Listen, since you're here

maybe you guys could
help me decide something.

-Um… Sure.
-Okay.

I want to look nice
when I meet Miss Maxwell,

so which is better.

This tie
with the tiny slices of swiss

or...

Or? But Tutter, I thought
that was a really nice... tie.

TUTTER: Tada!

This one with the little hunks
of cheddar?

I dunno. Too cheesy?

Gee Tutter,
I'rn sure either one will...

Yeah, you're right.
What ann I worried about?

I'll look great no
matter which tie I wear.

I'd love to stay and chat,
but I've got to go.

I have to do some cleaning
up for Miss Maxwell.

Well, I was just making
sure everything looks nice

for my teacher, Miss Maxwell.

She's coming over
later to meet me.

Hey. Meeting your teacher.

Cool.

Really... Smart.

[proudly] Well, you know...

Why would I have to be smart?

Well you know.

You have to know stuff
to go to school, don'tcha?

Like what kind of stuff?

Well, I heard that you
do a lot of reading in school.

Yeah, and don't forget writing.

Sure, and you know, math.

Oh yeah.
And don't they have pop quizzes?

Oh yeah. Pop quizzes.

What's a [gulp] pop quiz?

Oh! It's a surprise,
but it's a test.

-Uh hunh.

Hey Pop! Why don't
they call them Pip quizzes?

Just doesn't have
the same ring to it.

Here I was worried about
what to wear and how to talk,

when I've got to think
about reading and writing

and math and....

Oh! Excuse me! I gotta go!

Watch out! Hot soup!

Boy, he was sure in a hurry.

Yeah. He's such a busy
little mouse, isn't he?

Guys, guys.

Uhm, do any of you happen
to know what's up with Tutter?

[indistinct chatter]

What do you mean?

Well, he came rushing
into the kitchen

just as I was pouring
the flour into the... bowl.

Tell you what!

Does anyone feel like
going to the general store?

It seems I'm... out of flour.

We love the store!

I can ride my bike!

Hey, you wanna come with us
to the general store?

at the Woodland
Valley General Store.

Why, what can I do for ya today?

Well Jeremiah,
I was baking a cake

and well I ran out of flour.

Ran out? Huh!

Looks more like you ran into it,
if you ask me.

Oh, hello, Bear.

Hello, everyone.

What can I do for you today?

Baking flour.

Oh! Well, come on in,
Bear, I'll lix ya right up.

-Thanks, Jeremiah.
-No problem.

Ya know,
we been meaning to tell you...

[laughs] Thanks.

Oh yeah.
Can't go wrong with yellow!

It's such a happy shade.

Ah, I thought so, too.

Never seen anything

Those are my training wheels.

Those are for when you're still
learning how to ride, right?

a little bear and stuffs.

Okay, I got what I need.

[sniff]

Well, the cable is all-ready.

Now I just have to
flip it upside down.

That's the 'upside down'
part of the cake.

Okay, Treelo. Okay, but you see,

we have to be kind of quiet

otherwise the cake might
fall apart while I do it.

[whispers] Okay.
Treelo be quiet, Bear.

Okay.

Here goes.

Bear! Bear!

I need a wrench thingie. Okay?

Well, okay Ojo. Here's a wrench.

Well here's one in
my Bearcraft toolkit.

-Thanks, Bear!
-Well, Ojo,

what do you need a-- Ojo?

Flip it! Flip it!

I wonder Ojo needs a wrench for?

-Bear!
-Huh?

-Oh! Right. The cake.

Okay. Here we go...

Yeah uhm.

Tutter's up to.

TUTTER [muffled]: Bear!

word in all of these books!

I learn how to read

when I can't read
to learn how to read?

-Oh, it's a conundrum!

Now Tutter, I think you're
a bit confused about all this.

-Huh?

[doorbell rings]

I don't know how to read or
write or do any of that stuff.

skip the pop quiz

and just give me a big fat F!

But Tutter,

you don't have to know how to
read or write to go to school.

to be coming to school

to learn how to do those things.

it all before you even start.

But there's so much to know.
How will l ever learn it all?

Well, at Mouse School

we have a few rules
about thinking and learning.

[gulp] Rules?

Ojo took her training
wheels off her bike.

And she's going
to ride without them!

I'm fine, Bear. I guess.
I think I am.

She's ooo-kaaaay.

I thought I could do it.
I thought I could...

That I could ride
without my training wheels.

But [sniffle] I can't!

Oh, Ojo it's okay.

You only just started
riding your bicycle.

It just may be a little
too soon, that's all.

But I want to know how now!

Hey, Ojo, just because
you couldn't do it this time

doesn't mean that
you won't learn.

-It doesn't?
-Of course not.

No, see, learning doesn't
happen all at once.

Right, Miss Maxwell?

That's right, Tutter.

Tutter's teacher
came over to meet him.

Yeah, she's wonderful.

And today she taught Tutter

that he doesn't have
to know everything

before he starts school.

He can learn...

[giggling]

That's right.

Oh!

And Ojo tried riding her bicycle
without her training wheels

and took a bit of a fall,
but she's fine.

Tutter heading off to school.
Ojo riding a bike.

Yeah, they're learning
so many new things.

[sigh together]

You know, Bear,

from up here I can
see all the little ones

and they're learning
and changing every minute

it's all part of growing up.

It reminds me of you
when you were a little bear.

[chuckles]

to meet your teacher too...

[chuckles]
