Welcome to Plum Landing.
"Catch Me If You Can."
Today we're on a mission for Plum.
We're playing a game called "Catch Me If You Can,"
which is a lot like Hide-and-Seek.
I'm Ella, and theseare my friends
Aidan, Eissa, Jia and Bela.
Plum and the kids learned about how baby fish live in the roots
of the mangrove tree,
which helps them hide from sharks and other predators.
A predator is an animal that eats other animals.
Shark, bald eagle and crocodilesare predators.
Prey is an animal that gets eaten by predators.
Sometimes prey can hide
or blend in with their surroundings.
One, two, three
Plum suggested we try this game to find out if it's easy or hard
to hide in differentenvironments.
We were playing on the blacktop.
Eissa and I are the predators.
Jia, Bela and Aidanare the prey.
Five, six, seven
There's no place to hide, so I better duck down here!
Ready or not, here we come!
It's so easy!
The hardtop's kind of like the open ocean.
In an open ocean, the fish will get eaten
because it would be easy for the predators to find the fish.
Let's play over there!
There's better places to hide.
One, two, three
We came down to the playground
to see if it was easier to hide than on the blacktop.
Ready or not, here we come!
It was harder to find them in this environment
because there are more places that you could hide.
This is a really good place to hide
because no onehas found me yet.
I found you, Aidan!
I found you, Bela.
I found you!
It's easier for prey to hide in an environment like this.
There are great spots, kind of like the mangrove.
We made a course around the play structure.
First we went through it on our own, like we were baby fish.
This is like hiding under the mangrove roots.
I think we're all safe now.
A big predator won't be ableto get us in here.
Then we went through it like we were one big predator.
It was difficult to gounder the rings
and to get through the poles.
[laughing]
Not so fun.
We can't get under there.
When small animals hidein tight spaces,
predators cannot get them as easily
because they're too big to fit in the small area.
Can we do it again?
When Plum sent the kids to the mangrove swamp,
they went underwater and hid behind some mangrove fruits.
This protected them because the shark that was chasing them
was way too big to fit in there.
You can learn a lot about animals just by playing around.
