I can't wait for the party to start!

Yeah, a party for everyone on our street!

Ooh, I can't wait to try your mom's dumplings.

Know what I'm really, really, really excited about?

The surprise music show!

What surprise music show?

I can't tell you, Jun, 'cause it's a surprise!

Okay, I'll tell you.

No, I won't.

Yes, I will!

Rosie's Rule: Surprises are hard to keep a surprise!

Well, the surprise is coming right now!

[light mariachi music]

[laughing]

[children cheering]

-Amazing! -Alright!

That music is awesome.

That's because it's the best mariachi band ever!

What's mariachi?

It's really cool music from Mexico.

My Papá and Tía have their own wow-mazing mariachi band,

and they're gonna play for everyone at the party!

[Tía]: Playing mariachi songs for family and friends

is kind of our specialty.

And it's a wonderful way to share

our Mexican culture with everyone.

So, as soon as the other mariachis get here,

we'll be able to...

...play mariachi!

[giggling]

I wonder...

What is it like to be in a mariachi band?

I've gotta know!

♪ I have a great big question

♪ And I just can't let it go

♪ Yo quiero saberlo

♪ I really gotta know

What would it be like to perform in a mariachi band?

Maybe...

♪ People would travel from all across the land ♪

♪ To see me, Rosie Fuentes

♪ In a great mariachi band

♪ I'd make a big entrance on top of a kite ♪

♪ And twirl myself into a giant spotlight ♪

[crowd cheers, applauds]

Gracias, muchas gracias.

[phone chimes, Tía gasps] Bad news.

The other mariachis are stuck in traffic.

They might not make it here in time for the show!

Ay, no.

Without the other mariachis, we can't play.

No mariachi?

But they have to play

so everyone can hear their super wow-mazing music!

[gasps] Maybe somebody else can be in the band.

That's a supertastical idea.

[gasps] And that somebody else should be me!

You in the mariachi band? ¿Estás segura?

Super-duper segura!

C'mon, Javi. Help me get ready for the big show!

What do you need me for?

You're the chips and I'm the salsa.

We go together!

Makes sense to me!

Okay. If I'm going to be in the mariachi band,

I'll need a mariachi suit.

[meows]

Sometimes mariachis

wear special outfits, Gatita.

How about this shirt,

and this skirt, and this?

[Gatita meows]

Perdón, Gatita.

[meowing]

Rosie's Rule: Mariachis wear a mariachi suit.

But gatitas don't.

[meowing]

I should find something here.

i¡Ahorita vengo!

[Rosie grunting] Okay... Oops!

I think I'm stuck. No, wait, I'm good.

[Rosie grunting] This here...

Ta-da! Whadya think?

Like the stickers?

i¡Qué padre!

[meowing]

Gracias. Now I just need a sombrero de mariachi.

Oh, yeah. A mariachi hat is very important.

I can use the one Abuela got me!

There. I'm ready to play mariachi!

Wait. You still need something.

What? More stickers?

No. An instrument!

[gasps] i¡Claro!

[giggling]

[discordant notes] La-la-la-la!

[meowing]

[Rosie humming]

I don't know, Javi.

That doesn't sound like mariachi music.

It really doesn't.

Maybe you can play the...

kazoo!

Oh, yeah!

[inhaling deeply]

[loud notes]

That doesn't sound like mariachi either.

How am I gonna figure out what kind of instrument to play?

[gasps] I know who can help!

I'm calling Abuela!

[tablet chimes]

[Rosie and Javi]: i¡Hola, Abuela!

i¡Hola, mis niños!

I'm sewing a new skirt for my neighbor. ¿Les gusta?

-[both]: i¡Sí! -¿Qué pasa?

I'm gonna be in Papá and Tía's mariachi band!

But I don't know what instrument to play!

i¡Ya veo! Miren,

sometimes if you listen carefully to the music,

you'll hear each instrument. Escuchen.

Huh. I hear...

the vihuela!

That's Papá's instrument.

And I hear the violin, that's what Mamá plays!

[bright mariachi music]

[Javi gasps] That's a trumpet!

[gasps] That's the instrument I need to play mariachi!

i¡OK, muy bien! Oh!

I better finish my sewing before my neighbor comes over.

i¡Adiós granitos de arroz!

[both]: i¡Ciao bacalao!

Now where can we get a trumpet?

Well... I have one.

You do? Woo-hoo!

I'm gonna play the trumpet!

Oh, yeah! Gonna play! Javi's trumpet!

In the band! Oh, yeah--

[Javi]: But, prima...

Do you know how to play the trumpet?

Hmm... I can try. i¡Vamos!

Here you go. One trumpet for Mariachi Rosie.

i¡Gracias, primo!

Y uno, y dos, y tres, y cuatro!

[inhales deeply]

[trumpet sputtering]

Javi, I think your trumpet is broken.

[high-pitched squeak]

Yup. Definitely broken.

It's not broken. You just don't know how to play!

Maybe I can learn to play!

How long do you think it will take?

Maybe... a few months?

A few months?!

[light mariachi music]

[Rosie] But I need to be a mariachi now

because the show's going to start! Ugh!

I just wanted to be a mariachi

and help Tía and Papá perform.

But I can't play the trumpet and--

I need to flop.

Breathe in... [inhales deeply]

Breathe out... [exhales]

Wiggle about.

Now I'm ready to figure this out.

i¡Vamos a ver!

We just need someone else who can play the trumpet,

but who?

[bright trumpet melody]

[gasps]

What?

Mama Macaroni! You're supertastical!

-Thanks! -i¡Felicidades, Javi!

YOU are in the mariachi band!

Me? I don't know about that...

But Papá and Tía need someone who can play the trumpet.

And you are that someone!

But, Rosie... What about all of those people?

[sighs]

Don't worry, primo.

I'll be right next to you the whole time.

Because I'm gonna be in the band, too.

-You are? -Sí!

I'm going to... sing!

[giggles] i¡Qué padre!

Chip. Salsa.

[giggling]

Marco, the other mariachis still aren't here.

I guess we should tell everyone

we won't be able to perform after all.

Presenting... your new mariachi band member...

Mariachi Rosie!

Mija?!

And... mariachi Javi!

Oh, Javi?

i¡Y tan guapo! Oh!

You planned all of this, campeona?

i¡Claro que sí! I really wanted to share

our mariachi music with everyone.

[laughs]

Then that's what we're going to do!

[applause]

Rosie's Rule: Sharing your culture

with your friends is supertastical.

[kazoo tooting]

And so is your little brother playing the kazoo.

Whoa!

[giggling]

Rosie Canta Un Corrido.

[bright melody]

[giggling]

Attention, Fuentes family!

I have a very important announcement!

Ooh, I love important announcements!

What's the announcement, Crystal?

I've been thinking about something Fuentastic to do today

with our family, and I've decided

we're going to have...

a family talent show!

-A talent show! Woo-hoo! -How exciting!

Wait a secamadoodle. What's a family talent show?

It's a show where everyone picks something to do,

and then we'll all perform it for each other.

For example, I'm going to paint a portrait of Gatita.

[meows] Can I play my trumpet?

i¡Sí, Javi! And I'll play the violin. We can play a duet!

i¡Sí, qué padre!

I'm going to perform a polka dance!

[laughing]

Very nice, mi cielo.

-With Papá. -Wait, what?

C'mon. It'll be fun!

Iggy, maybe we can do something for the talent show together.

Yay!

What we do?

I don't know!

I'm sure you'll figure out something awesome, Rosie!

Well, I've gotta set up my portrait station.

[excited squeal] Should I have Gatita wear

the pink bow or the green bow? Oh no, maybe I need to...

Hmm... What should I do for the talent show?

I've gotta know!

What should I do for the talent show?

♪ I'll juggle hats like a super silly clown ♪

♪ Or sing opera so loudly in a flowy fancy gown ♪

♪ And do a fantastical swimming routine ♪

[giggling] Hmm...

That would be wow-mazing.

But I'd have to find a lot of jelly beans.

[gasps] Maybe we can tell a supertastical story!

[meowing]

Or we can sing a wow-mazing song!

[meows] Story...

Story, song, story--

-¿Qué pasa, calabaza? -Nada, empanada.

I can't decide what to do for the talent show,

story or song.

Well, I have an idea.

You can sing a corrido .

What's a corrido ?

It's a kind of song from Mexico.

Corridos tell exciting stories in a song!

[laughs] We used to sing corridos

all the time when I was a little boy.

[bright melody]

♪ Si Rosalía viniera a mi fiesta ♪

♪ Yo bailaría con ella sin parar ♪

♪ Es muy amable la niña Rosalía ♪

♪ Siempre orgulloso de ser tu papá ♪

i¡OÓrale!

I'm going to sing a corrido in the talent show!

There's my dance partner!

Gotta go practice my dance!

[singing]: Adiós!

Okay, Iggy. Who should my corrido be about?

Iggy!

No...

Tita!

Well.....

-Wosie? -Great idea!

I can already tell this is going to be

an excellent corrido.

Now I need a super-duper extra-tastical story

to sing about.

[gasps] I've got it.

One night, Rosie the Brave

was running through the jungle.

Suddenly, she discovered a ferocious jaguar named...

Iggy!

Rah!

Wee! [Rosie giggles]

The jaguar chases Rosie the Brave all over the land!

C'mon, Jaguar Iggy.

Now Iggy dinosaur!

Stomp, stomp! Rah!

[Iggy]: Stomp!

But I want you to be a jaguar...

for my corrido.

Stomp, stomp, rah!

Ugh!

Rosie's Rule:

Sometimes your little brother just wants to be a dinosaur!

Okay, if I can't do a jaguar story,

I need another super-duper extratastical story

for my corrido.

[trumpet and violin music]

i¡Vamos, Iggy!

[Iggy giggling]

[light music]

I have another idea for the corrido !

Once upon a time, there was a friendly octopus!

One day, the octopus saw a trumpet he wanted to play.

But it belonged to...

[Rosie]: ...a dolphin!

The octopus swam over to the dolphin,

reached out for the trumpet, and said...

I wanna play! [high-pitched note]

Dat sound bad.

Rosie's Rule:

An octopus should never sneak up on a trumpet player.

[Tía]: Rosalía, ¿qué pasa?

Sorry, Tía and Javi.

I was trying to make a super-duper story

for my corrido about an octopus.

-Wiggle, wiggle! -And a trumpet.

Oh. But we're practicing our duet for the talent show.

We can't help with your corrido right now. Sorry, Rosie.

[light music]

Aw, I can't tell my octopus story

without a trumpet. What will I do now?

[gasps] I need to call Abuela!

[tablet chimes]

i¡Hola, Abuela!

i¡Hola, mi niña!

I'm taking a walk in the beautiful Parque Hundido.

¿Qué pasa?

I'm trying to think of a story for my corrido

for the family talent show.

[gasps] I love corridos !

But none of my stories are working!

Mira Rosalía,

do you know what's wonderful about corridos ?

They can be about anything at all!

Just look around, the story could be right in front of you!

Oh! My hiking group is leaving.

i¡Adiós granito de arroz!

i¡Ciao bacalao!

Hmm...

Right in front of me...

[Crystal]: Mm-hmm... Good posing, Gatita.

[gasps] I've got another idea for a corrido !

Rosie the Brave is here to save Princess Crystal from...

the fire-breathing dragon!

[meowing]

Ah-ha! Don't worry. I'll save you, Crystal!

Rosie, I..I...

[meowing] Ah! Sorry.

-Tita! -Whoa!

-Tita! -My paint!

[gasps] Oh!

Uh-oh! [meowing]

[Iggy giggling] Tita!

Wee! [giggling]

Ugh!

[meows]

Well, at least we didn't all fall down.

[meows] Oof!

[all laughing]

Oh my! Looks like instead of you painting a picture,

the picture painted you! Is everyone all right?

We're fine, Mom. Just a little messy.

Iggy painty!

Let's get you cleaned up, painty Iggy.

Good idea, Mom. The talent show is starting in a few minutes.

What?! A few minutes?!

But my corrido isn't ready yet

because I still don't have a super-duper

extra-tastical story to sing about, and...

I need to flop.

Breathe in... [inhales deeply]

Breathe out... [exhales]

Wiggle about.

Now I'm ready to figure this out!

i¡Vamos a ver!

and so many things happened instead!

[giggles]

Like how I can't get this paper off my hand?

[all cheering]

[phone beeps]

[upbeat music] Woops!

[laughing]

Presenting Gatita!

[all cheering]

And now for our final act,

Rosie And Iggy will perform a corrido !

[cheering]

-Yeah! -Yay!

♪ First I was chased through the jungle by a jaguar ♪

♪ But then that jaguar became a dinosaur ♪

♪ So I tried to be an octopus who's friendly ♪

♪ Till I snuck up on a dolphin and his horn ♪

♪ And so I went to save a princess from a dragon ♪

♪ But that dragon was Gatita and she left ♪

♪ Then we all got our feet stuck in paint and papers ♪

♪ And we tumbled to the ground in quite a mess ♪

[all cheering]

-Bravo! -Thank you, thank you!

Glacias!

♪ A corrido is a special kind of song ♪

♪ A song from Mexico that's meant to share a story ♪

♪ A corrido might be all about adventure ♪

♪ Or tell a tale of bravery and glory ♪

♪ Many years ago these story songs would travel ♪

♪ They'd be sung and they'd be passed around the land ♪

♪ You can learn so many things from a corrido ♪

♪ It's like a book that sings to help you understand ♪

♪ Long ago they sang about a great defender ♪

♪ Who protected all the people in the town ♪

♪ But today I'll sing about a great big tower ♪

♪ That Gatita came and knocked right to the ground ♪

♪ So these songs could be from your imagination ♪

♪ They could also come from stories that are true ♪

♪ A corrido is a very old tradition ♪

♪ It's a story song that's passed from me to you ♪

[Gatita meows]

[giggling]

[gasping] Whoa!

[sighs]

[all sigh]

[giggling]

Looks like I have another story to sing a corrido about!

Rosie's Rule: A great story for your corrido

could be happening right in front of you!

Right, Gatita?

[meowing, giggling]

[laughing]

[barking] Almost at the dog park, Benito!

We just need to cross the bridge,

and then we'll be there.

[barking, panting]

[giggling]

Whoa!

What's wrong, Benito?

[Benito whimpering]

Hmm...

Are you scared to cross the bridge?

[whimpering]

Aw, Benito, you don't need to be scared.

Watch me go across.

Hop, hop, hop!

Ta-da! Now you try!

[panting]

Mm-mm.

Hmm...

[gasps]

Look, it's your toy! [toy squeaks]

[barking]

If you cross the bridge, you can play with it!

So, what do you say?

[panting]

[barks]

Mm... Come on, Benito!

You've just gotta hop across! Like this!

Hop, hop, hop, hop!

Hop, hop, hoppity-hop-hop-- Whoa!

Oof! [barking]

Ah! [giggling]

Oh, I'm okay. I just slipped on this leaf.

[gasps] Benito, you crossed the bridge!

[barking] Yes!

I knew you could do it!

Let's go to the dog park!
