He's lost!

If he doesn't have afamily, we better find him one.

Don't worryHosenose, I'll make sure youfind a family to live with.

Can you help?

Thanks!

Okay now, whocould the family be?

Oh look, it's Chris andMartin the lion cubs. Yeah!

We don't waste anytime, this is the perfect

family for Hosenose,Chris and Martin, the lion cubs

can take him backto live with their family.

-Well Zob, lionsare pretty tough.

-Hosenose willnever have to worry about

being picked on with lioncubs as brothers and sisters.

-You're right.

But I don't think Hosenose wouldfit in with the lion pride.

-Well, why not?

-Well they're suchdifferent creatures.

For one thing, lionseat meat and hedgehogs eatworms and insects and stuff.

Zoboo, we'll show you howtough lion cubs can really be.

Come on Chris, let'spractice our hunting.

Yeah you got it.

Way to go,

he's got the towel,

he's got a prettystrong grip with his mouth.

-Look, Chris andChris in a tug of w*r.

What do you think Hosenose,is this the family for you?

Well, maybethe lions are a little toobig and fast for Hosenose.

Oh, and Hosenose might notbe the best hunter in the pride.

-Right Zoboo.

In fact, these lions wouldprobably see Hosenose as a meal.

-Well that wouldn't be good.

But a hedgehogcan take care of herself.

She doesn't needlions to protect her.

-Ouch!

I see what you mean.

-He's small buthe has a great defense.

When a hedgehogwants to protect himself,

he rolls up intoa little ball of spines.

-Spines are mangatsika!

-They sure are Zoboo, and a lot of creatureshave them for defense.

Like the echidna

and the porcupine.

Some caterpillarshave spines too,

and don't forget the sea urchin

and the thorny devil.

But even with his spines, ahedgehog's no match for a lion.

That's because a lion can findtheir way around spiny defenses.

-Uh-oh watch out everybody!

-Pee-ewww! Lion breath!

-I can't smell anything.

-Okay, so maybe a lionpride isn't the best familyfor a hedgehog to live in.

We just need to keep looking.

-Let's go.

-Hey! Looks like Martinand Chris are leaving.

Bye guys!

-Bye Martin

-Bye Chris.

-I can't believe my mind!

Look who's here, muntjac deer.

I'm glad you came muntjac, you're just what we needed.

Perfect!

This is the family for Hosenose.

Problem solved.

They don't look tough andthey're not hunters like lions.

Hosenose, thisis the family for you.

-Wait a minute, not so fast Zoboo.

First we have to findout how muntjac deer live.

-Well okay. How do they live?

-Muntjac deer liveeither alone or in smallfamily groups call herds.

A mother deer has one fawn, which she raises for one year.

-This little muntjacfawn is only four months old.

When he gets about ayear old, he'll leave the herd

and start one of his own.

Now the females usuallystay and live with the herd

but the males leaveafter the first year.

-Well then this is okay.

Since Hosenose isa boy well then, then he canlive with the herd for a year.

-But Zoboo, he's a hedgehog andhedgehogs don't live in herds.

After his mother raiseshim, he goes off on his own.

-Look at how tinyhis head is, it's only aboutthe size of this apple.

-Muntjac deer, one ofthe smallest deer in the world.

-Whoa! He jumped right over me.

Look at him go.

Here he comes, whoa!

What a jumper!

Here he comes again, whoa!

He's doing lapsaround Animal Junction.

-He might be thirsty!

Want a drink?

Not yet.

-Whoa! Amazing jump!

-Want a drink?

Still not thirsty.

I'm getting thirstyjust watching him.

-Mangatsika! He zigs, hezags, he's all over the place.

-Look at this little guy go.

Now you're seeing thebiggest reason that this is notthe right family for Hosenose.

This little guy never stops.

Hosenose just doesn't bounce, run and jump like a muntjac.

-How would Hosenosekeep up with this herd?

-You're right. This isn'tthe right family for Hosenose.

Hey I'm having a little troublefinding you the right family,

but uh, don't worry, you'll have a family soon,

just relax and listento my story from Zobooland.

I was leaping along,

leap, leap, leap...

but then I saw somethingthat made me stop in my hop.

Tracks!

I have to follow these tracks.

And that's what I did.

Until the tracksled me to Sensit,

who was standingunder a stripe fruit tree.

-Hi Zoboo.

-Hi Sensit. Didyou make these footprints?

-Just the big ones.

-Well, who made the little ones?

-Oh,

they did,

my little sisters.

I'm babysitting today,

do you want to help me?

-Sure Sensit.

So we took care ofSensit's little sisters.

We played with them,

fed them,

and gave them lots of attention,

cause that's whata Sensit family does.

They take care of each other.

So we took careof them very well,

because they needus to take care of them.

And you know what?

It was a lot of fun.

The end.

So did you likemy story Hosenose?

Huh?

Mangatsika!You've found a father!

Hey brothers! Hosenosehas the perfect family!

-A bearded dragon!

-Yeah, well sincehe eats insects and stuff

just like Hosenose andthey both move kinda slow,

this is the perfect family!

-Except for one thing Zoboo.

A bearded dragon doesn'thave a family at all.

From the moment hehatches, he's on his own.

His mother and fatherjust don't take care of him.

There you go.

-But how does he eat, wheredoes he sleep, all that stuff?

-His instincts tellhim Zoboo. He just knows.

-Lots of creatures haveto take care of themselvesZob, like sea turtles.

Every year a sea turtlemom travels for miles to

come to the beach, diga nest and lay hundreds of eggs.

By the time the eggshatch, the mom is long gone

and the baby seaturtle is on her own.

But the baby seaturtle has instincts,

somehow she justknows that she has to make itacross the beach to the ocean.

But first, she has to getpast predators like vultures.

frigate birds.

coatis.

caracaras.

Once a baby turtle makes itpast the beach into the water,

she's home and her instinctstell her how to survive.

-Butcreatures, like a baby hedgehog, have to be taught things,

and they have to be takencare of by their parents.

-So this won't work either.

Well I guess it'sjust you and me Hosenose.

You can come to Madagascarwith me, you'll meet my mom

and my dad and my brothersand my sisters, and...

Mangatsika!

Who are you and how are you?

Wait a sec, I know who you are.

-Oh, well for starters,a mother hedgehog

can have up to ten babiesbut this one, oh ouch, has two.

-I'll call her Hedge and Hog

and Hosenose of course.

-Good names.

You know the motherhedgehog takes care of

the baby hedgehogsuntil they are about seven

-She feeds them.

-And she gives them milk.

-What about goobleberries?

-I'm glad we foundHosenose's family.

-Yeah! There's nothingbetter than a happy family.

-Yeah!

And I never knewthere were so many kinds.

-Yup! All sorts of families andthey all work in different ways.

In a prairie dog family, onlymom takes care of the babies

but dad does his part. He standsoutside and protects the home.

-Baboons are a little different.

They live in groupscalled troops and although

mom's number one, everybody works together to

protect and teachthe young baboons.

Everyone wants to be apart of the baby baboon's life.

-Another amazing familyis the ostrich family.

Both mom and dad make sure thatthe babies are fed and safe.

I've always wantedto be a big cat.

-Let's see what lifeis like in a lion pride.

-Looks like they arejust chilling out right now,

enjoying the African sunshine.

A family oflions, called a pride,

is made up of manyfemales and their young.

-Plus a single or groupof male lions who are part of

that pride and maybea few others in the area.

-Those two arehaving a great time.

Don't you love these guys?

Lion cubs take turns beingthe hunter and the hunted.

Check it out.

-That's howthey practice hunting.

-That's what we'vegot to do if we're goingto be part of the pride.

Let's start by waitingand listening like the lions.

-Martin, something's up.

-Yeah I know, but what?

I think they are on the prowl.

-We'll hunt like lions.

Lions are the only bigcats that hunt cooperatively.

That really improvesyour chances of eating.

-A lion family workstogether to hunt their prey.

-Ready brother?

-Ready.

-I'll be the lion thatwaits here and watches the prey.

-And I'll be thelion who st*lks around

and over to theother side of the prey.

Okay, I'm in position.

-Now, I'll slowly pushthe herd towards Martin,

-The lion moves slowlyand quietly towards her prey.

-There they go!

-Time to charge,

now!

Uh-oh!

Here they come,

one,

two,

three,

ah!

-Oh no!

-I guess theyonly stop for lions.

-Are you all right Martin?

-Yeah!

But you know,we'd never make it as lions,we can never catch anything.

-Butwhen a lion catches something, everybody gets a share.

That is if thereis enough to go around.

-What do you saywe catch a bite ourselves?

-Yeah back at Animal Junction!

-Oh yeah! She's a goodplayer, aren't you Tigerstripe?

-Puppies like Tigerstripelove living in human families,

butit can be hard for a puppy tofigure out how to live in one.

-That's because we'repeople and puppies are dogs.

And the bestway to make a puppy feel athome is to think like a dog.

-Think like adog, how do you do that?

-Well Zob, for one thing,a lot of people don't like

when dogs jump up on them, but if you understand dogs,

-Think like a dog.

-then you'llunderstand that they're justjumping up to greet each other.

Wild dogs lick andrub each other's faces.

-African wilddogs live in packs.

They're incrediblysocial creatures.

When they lickeach other's faces,

they're saying "Hi! Where haveyou been? Glad you're back".

So a puppy is justjumping up to say hello.
