Listen! Do you hear all those creatures singing?

[Squawking]

Creature songs!

Everybody's singing today!

Whoa!

Oh!

Even martin.

And her!

Another great singer! A chipmunk!

Many creatures are great singers.

Loons that call across the lake.

[Loon calling]

Every creature has a different reason for singing.

There are lots of singers around.

One's missing.

Zoboo.

Zoboo!

Zoboomafoo!

Martin: zoboo!

He's here!

Zoboo, feel like singing today?

Did you see any other singers out there?

Can you sing?

Zoboo.

Hi!

Zoboo doesn't talk until he's had his snack.

[Boing]

[Honk]

Zoboo, we have apples today!

Here you go, buddy.

Yeah.

Zoboo loves apples.

[Burp]

Excuse me.

Zoboomafoo!

Hey! Hi, everybody.

It's great to see you.

That was some burp, zoboo.

Yeah, I burp when I'm vokey.

Brothers, look!

Mangatsika, the singing!

I love the singing.

So did the creature I saw. Who could it be?

♪ This animal who I did see? ♪

♪ Can you help me guess ♪

♪ This mystery? ♪

He had bird feet, bird feet with claws!

A bird body and bird wings! Ha ha!

[Chanting]

He flew up on a branch and sat there!

Just like me!

[Chanting]

♪ This animal who I did see? ♪

♪ Can you help me guess this mystery? ♪

Do you know this bird sitting on my head?

Martin: what do you think, chris?

Chris: it's a bird because he's covered with feathers.

Likes singing. Brown and white.

Do you know what bird it is?

Kratt brothers!

Wow! A kookaburra!

Mangatsika, mystery animal's here!

A kookaburra is a great singer.

Look at that powerful beak.

That means kookaburras are predatory birds.

Kookaburras eat mice, insects, fish, lizards, and birds.

Wait a second, do they eat lemurs?

No!

Look at the kookaburra's nails.

They're long and pointed for hanging onto branches.

See these blue feathers?

A kookaburra has spots the color of the sky.

Look, mangatsika feathers.

How about this?

Want to see something really neat?

When I move my arm, the kookaburra's body moves.

His head stays perfectly still.

I can't believe my mind!

I want to hear what the kookaburra sounds like.

Why isn't he singing now?

Martin: that's a good question, zoboo.

I wish he'd sing.

We'll wait until sunset

Because that's when kookaburras really sing.

Many creatures sing at night.

Just before dark can be prime time for creature songs.

Owls start hooting.

Raccoons get chortling.

Some creatures sing all night long,

And they start at sunset.

I can't wait till sunset to hear the kookaburra sing.

We'll figure something else out.

You have to hear the kookaburra sing. It's an amazing song.

Sometimes kookaburras sing to warn other kookaburras of danger.

There's no danger in animal junction.

Hey, I've got another way.

Don't tell me!

I can figure it out myself.

♪ I can't hear martin ♪

Let me know if you need help.

Hey, where'd he go?

I can figure this out, I know I can.

Hmm. I can't figure this out.

How to get kookaburra to sing?

What makes other creatures sing?

Martin: creatures sing to tell others where they are.

Chris: coyotes howl back-and-forth

When separated from their group.

That's how coyotes stick together in their home range.

Zoboo: maybe kookaburra needs a place to live.

Maybe if we help build his nest,

He'll get happy and sing.

Let's build a nest!

Ok, let's build a nest!

How do you build a nest?

It's as easy as whistling.

Oh, whistling.

[Trying to whistle]

If it's as easy as whistling, nest-building looks pretty hard.

Kookaburras peck holes in termite mounds

Until they can fit inside.

Let me try.

Termite mounds are hard as rock!

They're made of mud, sand, and termite spit

That's been baked in the sun.

Worker termites go and collect mouthfuls of earth.

Then they bring the dirt back, spit on it,

And pack it onto the mound.

Martin: the spit holds the pieces together,

Making a mound as hard as rock.

[Thwack]

Now, that's hard!

A kookaburra's beak and neck muscles are strong enough

To bust a hole in a termite mound!

Phew! Hey!

Hey, kookaburra, watch it!

Oh, well, it's ok.

Nice nest hole.

Kookaburra will sing now, won't he?

I'll have to think of something else.

Sing like me!

♪ La la ♪

Making a nest won't make kookaburras sing.

How do you make kookaburras sing?

You have to--

♪ Hunda hunda ha, I can't hear you ♪

Zoboo always has to figure things out for himself.

Kookaburras sing after eating a snack!

I won't chat until I've had my snack!

After I've had leaves, I can't stop talking!

Maybe kookaburra will sing after he snacks!

There's camel, and there's kookaburra!

Kookaburra meat.

[Dong]

Not hungry, huh?

So much for that idea.

After a snack, I always sing and burp.

That reminds me of something in zobooland.

Let's try playing goobleberry catch, zoboo.

That should work.

Good idea! I'm ready!

[Gulp]

That was fun, but I still don't feel like singing.

I know! Your voice sounds dry, gooble.

You must be thirsty!

Yeah! Yeah, I am thirsty!

For jelly!

Come on over!

Come over! Drink!

So gooble slurped up all the jelly.

Ha ha!

♪ Slurp and sing, goobleberry jelly ♪

♪ That's the thing ♪ wah! Wuh!

♪ Goobleberry jelly, slurp and sing ♪

♪ Goobleberry jelly, that's the thing ♪

That's what made gooble sing, but what about kookaburra?

How do I get him to sing?

You kratts have to help me.

To get a kookaburra to sing,

You have to sing like a kookaburra!

[Kookaburra singing]

[Making kookaburra calls]

♪ I'm a kooky talking bird! ♪

♪ I'm a kookaburra! ♪

[Continues calling]

Now to learn how to whistle.

[Sputtering]

Once he starts,

He can't stop.

He can't get enough.

Let's join him!

[Imitating kookaburra call]

[Snorting]

[Bleating]

[Trumpeting]

[Neighing]

[Quacking]

[Barking]

[Bellowing]

[Imitating kookaburra call]

[Clucking]

Everybody, sing, sing!

[Trumpeting]

[Snorting]

A little more juice from the mammals, please!

Sing! Whoops!

Uh-oh!

[Splash]

Ha ha! Zoboo!

I had no idea my conducting would make such a splash.

That's our zoboo. Nutty lemur!

Ah!

Incoming! Duck!

It's not a duck. It's a frog!

Martin: of course! A wood frog!

Another great singer!

He uses his call to attract a mate.

Incoming!

Duck!

Heh heh. Hey!

It's a lanner falcon.

This is no duck!

A message from jackie!

Jackie: wow! Sparrows!

Robins!

Red-winged blackbirds!

I love songbirds!

That's why I made my house safer for songbirds.

Birds think they can fly right through reflecting windows,

But they can't!

Sometimes birds get hurt when they fly into window glass.

That's good!

We put hawk stickers on the windows

So the birds know something is there.

My house won't hurt any songbirds.

Many great creature singers...

Don't always sound like who they are.

[Animal call]

Let's find out who that is!

A trip!

To the closet!

♪ They're going to the closet, they're going on a trip ♪

♪ They're going to the closet to grab their stuff and split ♪

[Music starts and stops]

Righteous!

♪ And they don't know what's in store ♪

♪ They're coming from the closet ♪

♪ And they're headed out the door ♪

That's our cue!

[Animal sounds]

Hear those sounds?

They're coming from an amazing creature!

An elk sound is called a bugle.

Let's follow those bugles to the animal who makes them.

[Playing charge]

Martin: this looks like elk country!

Whoa!

Chris, you hear that?

Loud and clear.

That creature chatters up a storm.

A red squirrel!

There she is!

That squirrel's chattering big time!

[Chattering]

That's why! A pine marten!

The marten is one of the squirrel's predators.

The red squirrel is chattering

To let the pine marten know he's been spotted.

The squirrel's saying, "i see you, and I'm fast.&Quot;

When red squirrels see pine martens,

It's harder for pine martens to catch squirrels.

The marten's giving up.

Time for the squirrel to get back to gathering food.

She's busy storing pine cones for winter.

Hold it! We're getting distracted.

Many incredible creatures make incredible sounds.

We have to stay focused to find an elk.

I have an idea.

I wonder what he's thinking.

Good idea, bro! Woohoo!

All right, we're kayaking downriver!

I've got an idea!

Let's see if by bugling like an elk,

We can call an elk in.

Hit it, martin.

Here goes!

[Imitating elk bugle]

That was the worst elk bugle I've heard.

Yeah?

[Bugling]

[Bugling]

[Bugling]

Sometimes male elks check out other male elks bugling.

Males bugle during the mating season,

Which sometimes leads to amazing antler fights.

Bulls test each other by pushing each other with their antlers.

Wow.

[Imitates elk bugle]

He heard you!

Uh-oh.

Whoa, wait, whoa.

He's checking out your bugle!

But I don't have any antlers!

Let's call in another amazing creature.

[Whistling]

[Horse neighs]

Yeah! Come on!

Yeah, over here!

Hurry up. Hurry! Hurry!

Good job, just in time.

Let's ride!

Back to animal junction and zoboomafoo!

[Bugling]

That proves one thing!

Always give animals with big antlers their space!

Let's bugle for zoboo.

[Animal grunts]

Hey! That's no elk!

Zoboo, what are you up to?

Zoboo: not up to, up on!

I climbed up a vine. I'm a swingin' lemur!

Look at this long neck.

I'll bet camels sing really cool songs.

[Camel grunts]

Zoboo has camel fuzz on his face.

I sort of landed headfirst.

Ha ha ha.

It looks comfortable.

Sure is.

But I'm going to go down. Ready?

Are you stuck?

Do you need help?

Zoboo?

I meant to do that.

Where'd he go? Zoboo!

Hey, zob!

What are you doing?

Getting back on that camel.

Hoo hoo ha!

Look out for his head!

Whoa! Chris! Martin! Whoa!

Whoa! Whoa! Hey, whoa! Watch out, guys!

Chris! Martin! Whoa!

[Zoboo screaming]

I smell mud!

Uh-oh! Uh-oh!

Whoa!

I did.

Chris: let's get you cleaned up.

There you go, zob.

Use a towel.

I'm ok, I'm ok.

Say, do camels burp?

I don't know.

Maybe they need to eat first, like me.

The snack machine will have something.

Huh.

[Dong]

Oof!

Apple!

Here you go!

Thanks, zob. Welcome.

Martin: can you hear a camel swallowing?

You can definitely hear the sound of a camel chewing.

Listen to that.

And look how he chews!

His mouth goes from side-to-side.

Chris, I hear food coming down.

And he makes a lot of grumbling, groaning sounds.

[Camel burps]

He does burp!

Zoboo: what a song!

I sing when I work with clay!

♪ Zobooland zobooland zobooland ♪

♪ Zobooland zobooland zobooland ♪

♪ Zobooland zobooland ♪

Wiggy waxwing!

I was leaping along.

Leap, leap, leap.

When I bumped into wiggy waxwing.

Oof!

You know something's wrong when wiggy is running back and forth.

Oh, no, what am I going to do? Oh, no, zoboo!

What am I going to do!

What's the matter, wiggy?

I can't remember my wiggy waxwing song!

I can't remember any song!

That's terrible. Gooble has his goobleberry song.

♪ Goobleberries, goobleberries ♪

♪ They fill my gooble belly ♪

♪ Goobleberries, goobleberries ♪

[Honk]

Narchi's got his trumpet sound.

Then I thought of something.

What?

[Whispering]

She sang like a rooster.

[Crowing]

Then like a coyote.

[Howling]

Then like an elk.

[Bugling]

And then she did the song of the kookaburra.

That made her happy.

The end.

Different creatures make different sounds for different reasons.

I loved riding the camel.

I climbed up a vine! I'm a swingin' lemur!

Woohoo!

I liked singing with the kookaburra.

[Squawking]

Creature songs are great!
