♪ ♪

children:

♪ They're two, they're four ♪

♪ They're six, they're eight ♪

♪ Shunting trucks

and hauling freight ♪

♪ Red and green

and brown and blue ♪

♪ They're the Really

Useful Crew ♪

♪ All with different roles

to play ♪

♪ Round Tidmouth Sheds

or far away ♪

♪ Down the hills

and round the bends ♪

♪ Thomas and his friends ♪

[whistle toots]

[light music]

male narrator:

"Daisy's Perfect Christmas."

[horn honks]

narrator:

Daisy the diesel railcar

doesn't care too much

for winter.

The cold mornings just don't

agree with her at all.

[wheels clanging]

- Oh!

Ohh!

Ohh.

narrator: Daisy would happily

spend the whole of winter

in her shed

if it wasn't for one thing.

- Christmas!

Christmas is just

so splendiferous.

- What she means is that

she loves Christmas.

- I love the whole

deck-the-halls, naughty-or-nice,

not-a-creature-was-stirring,

ho-ho-holiday!

- What she means is--

- We know what she means, Dart.

Everyone loves Christmas.

What's so special about that?

- I love the traditions.

[pounding, hissing]

Do you mind?

- Oh, uh, sorry.

- As I was saying,

the traditions--

doing the same thing every year.

[laughs] The way

they're always meant to be.

- Ohh. [chuckles]

Like what?

- [sighs]

- Like picking up

the children...

wrapped up snug

in their winter clothes--

their faces all aglow--

and taking them

on a special outing...

[whistle blows]

to the Small Railway.

[squeals]

It's so Christmassy and lovely.

- Merry Christmas, everyone!

[all cheering]

- And then I get to take

the carolers around

the Island...

["We Wish You

a Merry Christmas"]

♪ ♪

To sing songs

for those who have to work

over the holiday.

[laughs]

all: ♪ We wish you

a merry Christmas ♪

♪ We wish you

a merry Christmas ♪

♪ We wish you a merry

Christmas ♪

♪ And a happy New Year ♪

♪ Good tidings we bring

to you and your kin ♪

- Wow, that sounds--

- Wonderful.

[stammering]

I mean, it sounds all right.

[chuckles]

- I just wish it would

hurry up and snow.

It doesn't feel like Christmas

without snow.

But still, I just can't wait

to see the Christmas tree

at Vicarstown.

♪ ♪

Oh, no!

They're still putting up

the tree.

They've usually

done that by now.

Oh, the children

will be disappointed.

narrator:

Daisy was very unhappy.

[whistle blows]

She just wanted everything

to be perfect.

♪ ♪

children:

♪ Jingle bells, jingle bells ♪

♪ Jingle all the way ♪

♪ Oh, what fun

it is to swerve ♪

♪ In a well-sprung

diesel sleigh, oh ♪

- Those aren't the proper words.

Why can't you sing

the traditional song?

Ohh.

[laughter]

Rex, where are the presents

for the children?

- We're doing

something different

this year, so--

- But I don't want to

do something different.

I want--oh!

[gasps] Oh, at last.

It's finally snowing.

[children exclaiming]

Mmm.

What is this?

- [laughs]

Pretty good, eh?

Just like the real thing.

- Do you mean to tell me

that this is fake snow?

- Yes! Do you like it?

- No. No, I do not.

[whistle blows]

I like real snow.

all: ♪ On the first day

of Christmas ♪

♪ My true love gave to me ♪

♪ A blue number engine ♪

♪ On the second day

of Christmas ♪

[whistle toots]

- Merry Christmas, Daisy.

- Hey, Thomas.

I hope the station is decorated.

Then it will look

all Christmassy and special.

Like it should.

all: ♪ And a blue

number engine ♪

♪ ♪

- [gasps]

C'est magnifique.

[gasps] Oh!

This isn't how it usually is.

This is not the same at all.

[grumbling]

narrator: Finally, Daisy

collected the carolers

and took them to

the Search and Rescue Center.

Everyone was feeling festive

except for Daisy.

And then there was trouble.

all: ♪ We wish you

a merry Christmas ♪

♪ We wish you

a merry Christmas ♪

♪ We wish you a merry

Christmas ♪

♪ And a happy New Year ♪

[laughter]

- This is all wrong.

Oh?

It's not Harold's job

to put the star on the tree.

- Merry Christmas, everyone!

[cheers and applause]

Ho ho ho!

narrator: Daisy was furious.

That night, Daisy's springs

were wound up very tight.

- Oh, Daisy. How were

your Christmas specials?

- Worst day ever.

- Oh, Daisy.

Where's your Christmas spirit?

You usually love

this time of year.

- Yes! It's not like you

to be a party pooper.

- Or a Daisy Downer.

[laughter]

- Well, it all started

after I left the diesel works.

narrator: Daisy told Ryan,

Judy, and Jerome

all about the tree

at Vicarstown,

the children's sing-along...

[cawing]

The miniature engine

surprise...

The Troublesome Trucks...

[laughter]

And Harold with the star.

[laughter]

- Oh, Daisy. It sounds like

the children had

a wonderful time.

- I know.

But it's usually so special.

I just wanted everything

to be like it always is.

- But--but what about

that moment

with the Troublesome Trucks?

You had to laugh about that.

[laughs]

- Well--

- Maybe it wasn't better

or worse than usual,

just different.

After all,

a few Christmases ago,

we didn't share a shed.

And now we do.

- Oh! And we weren't based

here at Arlesburgh, either.

So do you like having us

around at Christmas?

- Of course I do.

I love being with you.

You're my friends.

- So there you go.

Today wasn't perfect

like it used to be.

It was a new kind of perfect.

- You're right.

You're all right.

Even though it didn't snow,

it was perfect.

- Well, it may not be snow,

but we did put together

a little Christmas present

for you.

♪ ♪

- Oh, thank you.

Christmas is made perfect

with friends like you.

[steam hisses]

[bouncy music]

♪ ♪

[children singing]

[whistle toots]

[whistle blows]
