children:

♪ They're two, they're four ♪

♪ They're six, they're eight ♪

♪ Shunting trucks

and hauling freight ♪

♪ Red and green

and brown and blue ♪

♪ They're the really

useful crew ♪

♪ All with different roles

to play ♪

♪ Round Tidmouth Sheds

or far away ♪

♪ Down the hills

and round the bends ♪

♪ Thomas and his friends ♪

♪ ♪

[whistle toots]

[rock music]

male narrator:

Mucking about.

♪ ♪

Max the dump truck loves racing

against Thomas the t*nk engine.

- Hey!

- [laughs]

Huh?

narrator: As does his twin,

Monty.

- Oh.

♪ ♪

narrator: Max and Monty

can be mischievous,

but Thomas thinks

they're good fun...

most of the time.

[tires squealing]

- We'll beat you next time!

- Oh, yeah!

- [laughs]

No one beats me!

I'm number one!

[chuckles]

[whistle toots]

♪ ♪

[tires squeal]

[both coughing]

narrator: Max and Monty

were working with Oliver,

Alfie, and Jack

on a digging site

near Thomas' branch line.

It was their job to take

all the earth away to the dump

when they weren't

mucking about.

[crash]

- [laughs]

[laughter]

- Hey!

Steady on.

[laughter]

- All right, all right.

That's enough, you two.

[whistle toots]

- Oh, there goes Thomas again.

[horn honks]

[both laughing]

[horn honks]

- Hey, come back here.

♪ ♪

- Let's have some fun!

- [laughs]

[tires squealing]

both: Whoa!

[laughter]

- Watch out!

[whistle toots]

- Yeah!

- [laughing]

- Whoo-hoo!

- [laughing]

- [yelling]

Yeah!

- That was dangerous!

[chime music]

Max and Monty

can be fun sometimes, Edward,

but crisscrossing the tracks

right in front of me?

That's not safe.

- Hmm.

I find the best way

to get along with Max and Monty

is to ignore them all together.

- Ignore them?

- Yes.

Don't answer back.

Don't try to race them.

Just forget them.

That's the only way

to deal with that sort

of construction vehicle.

- Thanks, Edward!

That's what I'll do.

[instrumental music]

narrator: But it was easier

said than done.

[horns honking]

- Hey, Thomas, race ya.

- Just to the next juncture.

Come on!

[both laugh]

[rock music]

- Silly blue engine!

You're not number one.

We're number one!

♪ ♪

[ducks quacking]

- [gasps]

[whistle toots]

[ducks quacking]

- [yells]

- [quacks loudly]

[both yelling]

[tires squealing]

- [quacking]

- [sighs]

♪ ♪

- [laughs]

Huh?

♪ ♪

- [gasps]

- Whoo-hoo!

Yeah!

[both yelling]

We're number one!

- And there's two of us,

so that makes you number three.

[laughs]

- That was dangerous.

I'm not getting involved

with those two anymore.

[instrumental music]

[whistle toots]

♪ ♪

- Whoa, ho, ho, ho!

Look at me!

Whoo-hoo!

- Yeah!

- Hey!

♪ ♪

[clang]

[crash]

- Oh!

Oh, no.

narrator: Oliver's front loader

was disabled,

and a thrown track meant

he could no longer

be really useful.

- Oops!

Sorry, Oliver.

♪ ♪

narrator: Poor Oliver.

He had to be taken away

for repairs.

- I'll be back soon

and right as rain,

but in the meantime,

please get on with your work.

both: Yes, sir!

♪ ♪

[whistle toots]

♪ ♪

- Hey!

What's the hold up?

- I was just thinking the dump

is a really long way away.

- So we should hurry up.

- Or instead of taking our waste

all the way there...

- We could just dump it over

this wall!

- Exactly!

That will save lots of time.

- And...

both: Be really useful!

[rock music]

♪ ♪

both: Yeah!

♪ ♪

[horn honking]

- Wow.

That was quick.

- Just doing our job

as fast as we can.

- On the double.

[laughs]

- [laughs]

♪ ♪

[both laughing]

[both continue laughing]

- Yeah!

- Whoa!

[both laughing]

narrator: But on the other side

of the wall,

it wasn't a dumping place.

It was a railway line.

[dramatic music]

Oliver had been repaired

and Thomas was bringing him

back to the dig site.

- Max and Monty are good,

hard workers, but just remember,

it's better to let them

compete against each other

than to try and beat them

at their silly games.

- Okay, Oliver.

Thanks for that.

I'll bear it in mind from now--

[yelling]

Oh, no!

Oh, no!

[thud]

[grunts]

♪ ♪

narrator: Max and Monty

had caused an accident.

- [groans]

♪ ♪

[instrumental music]

- Where's Thomas with Oliver?

He was supposed to be back

ages ago.

- We can't do any more

without him.

- Okay, you two, that looks like

your last load for today.

[thunking]

[horns honking]

♪ ♪

narrator: Luckily...

Thomas had his friends

to help him.

- I'll soon have

the line clear, Thomas,

now that my piston

has been repaired.

- Oh, and we'll soon have you

back on track.

Right, Jerome?

- Sure thing, Judy.

- Thanks, everyone.

narrator: It was still

a mystery how all the waste

had ended up on

Thomas' branch line.

- Oh, dear.

Oh, dear.

narrator: Until...

[mechanical whirring]

- Huh?

[mechanical whirring continues]

[rumbling]

[yelling]

[groans]

- Hello, hello, hello.

[both gasp]

Max and Monty, your tipping

of debris has caused confusion

and delay to the building works

and the railways.

- Sorry, Officer.

- You must always dispose

of building waste

safely at the dump!

And that's where I expect you

to take the rest of that rubble

you left on the tracks

before morning.

- Yes, sir.

Sorry, sir.

- And no more mucking about!

♪ ♪

[whistle toots]

♪ ♪

- Sorry, Thomas.

- We didn't mean

to cause an accident.

We were just trying

to get the job done quickly.

- A bit too quickly, Monty.

I won't be racing

with you two again.

[whistle toots]

♪ ♪

- There you are, Max.

[thunking]

Ready to go!

- You too, Monty.

- Great!

[chuckles]

- [chuckles]

- Are you thinking

what I'm thinking?

- Last one to the dump

is a stinky dump truck?

[engine revving]

- [yells, coughs]

[engine revving]

- [yells, coughs]

- I'm number one!

- No, I'm number one.

I come first.

Max and Monty.

No one says Monty and Max.

- Well, you just did,

and I like the sound of it.

Maybe it'll catch on.

- I don't think so.

- I think so.

- I'm number one.

- I'm thinking not.

[rock music]
