02x25 - Woolly Bear

Post by bunniefuu »

In summer, the gangers cut the grass,

raking it into heaps to dry in the sun.

Percy stops
where they have been cutting.

They load his wagons
and he pulls them to the station.

Toby takes them to the hills
to feed livestock.

“Wheesh!”" Percy gave a ghostly whistle.

“Don't be frightened. It's only me.”

“Your ugly fiz is enough
to frighten anyone.”

“Ugly indeed?"

“You crawl like a green caterpillar
with stripes.”

“I don't.”
“Who's been late every day?"

“It's the hay.”
"I can't help that. Time's time. I keep it.

“I can't if you crawl in the hay.”
“Green caterpillar indeed.”

He set off to collect hay
to take to the harbour.

“Everyone says I'm handsome.

“My curves are better
than his corners.

“Thomas says I'm always late.
I'm only a few minutes late.

“Thomas can catch up time further on.”

He decided to start home early,
then came trouble.

A crate of treacle was upset over Percy.

Percy was cross.
He was sticky when he puffed away.

The wind was blowing.
“Look at that," said the driver.

The wind tossed the hay over the track.

The line climbed.
“Take a run at it," said the driver.

The hay made the rails slippery.

He stalled with spinning wheels

and had to wait till the line was cleared
before he could start.

Everyone was waiting. Thomas seethed.

“Ten minutes late.
Passengers will complain.”

Then they saw Percy.
They laughed and shouted.

“Sorry I'm late."

“Look what crawled out of the hay."

“What's wrong?”
"You hairy caterpillar.

“It's worth being late to have seen you.”

When Percy got home
his driver showed him a mirror.

“No wonder they all laughed.

“I'm like a woolly bear.
Clean me before Toby comes.”

It was no good.
Thomas told Toby all about it.

Instead of talking about ghosts,

they made jokes about caterpillars
that crawl about in hay.

They laughed a lot,
but Percy thought they were silly.
