02x08 - Duck Takes Charge

“Do you know what?" asked Percy.
"What?" grunted Gordon.

“Do you know what?"

“How can I, if you don't tell me
what what is?"

“They're getting an engine to help me
because the work here is too heavy.”

“Any engine could do it," said James.

“If you chatted less,
this yard would be a better place.”

Percy went off to fetch some coaches.

“That stupid signal," he thought,

remembering when he went backwards
by mistake.

“No one listens to me.
They think I'm silly. I'll show them."

But he didn't know how.

He was tired and unhappy as he brought
some coaches to the station.

“Hello, Percy! You look tired.”

“I don't know if I'm standing
on my dome or my wheels.”

“You look the right way up to me.”

“Cheer up, the new engine
can do your work."

“Would you like to help build my new
harbour?" "Yes, sir! Thank you, sir!"

The new engine arrived. "What's
your name?" asked the Fat Controller.

“Montague, sir, but they call me Duck.
They say I waddle.

“I don't, but I prefer Duck to Montague.”
"Good. Duck it shall be."

“Percy, show Duck round.”
The two engines went off together.

James, Gordon and Henry
watched Duck at work.

“He seems a simple sort.”
“We'll have fun ordering him about."

(Engines quacking)

“Wheee!” Smoked billowed everywhere.

Percy was cross. Duck took no notice.
“They'll tire of it."

“Do they tell you to do things?"
"Yes."

“We'll soon stop that nonsense.” He
whispered something. "We'll do it later."

The Fat Controller
was looking forward to tea.

Suddenly, he heard an extraordinary
noise. "Wheeesh!" (Snorting)

“Bother!” he said,
and hurried to the yard.

Duck and Percy calmly blocked
the tracks to the shed.

Gordon, James and Henry were furious.

- (Whistling)
- "Stop that noise!"

“They won't let us in,” hissed Gordon.
“Duck, explain this."

“Beg pardon, but I'm a Great Western
engine. We do our work without fuss.

“Could you inform these engines
we only take orders from you?”

“Silence!” snapped the Fat Controller.

“Percy and Duck, I am pleased
with your work but not your behaviour."

Gordon, Henry and James sniggered.

“As for you, you've been worse!
Duck is right - I give the orders.”

After Percy went away, Duck was left
to manage alone. He did so - easily.
