The mother hen sat on her

me a fantabby hooby story
about an egg.
Maybe you'd like to listen

- [Groove] Yeah.

- [Young Boy] Once upon a time,
there was a hen called Matilda.
She was trying to lay a
beautiful, big, brown egg
for her friend Percy.
- Come on!
- [Young Boy] It needed to be
just the right size,
- Come one!
- [Young Boy] to fit into
Percy's special egg-race spoon.
- [Hoobs] Oh.
- [Young Boy] So far,
she had laid three.
Percy tried the first
one in his spoon.
"Too small."

Then he tried the second.

"Too round!"
"Oh Matilda, none of these
eggs are the right shape
for my egg-race spoon, they'll
all fall off and smash!"
Percy was in despair.
"I'm in despair", he cried.
"I really want to win the
egg-and-spoon race this year.

always wins it!
"It must be my turn!
"Please try one more
time for me Matilda."
Matilda concentrated really
hard and out came another egg.
(triumphant sparkling)
Percy put the egg on the spoon.
It was a perfect fit!
He ran off to start the race.
Ready, steady, go!
The race was neck in neck.
Eric Braithwaite was just
about to overtake Percy when,
- [Eric] Noooo!
- [Young Boy] Splat!
The egg fell off
his spoon and broke.
Runny yolk went everywhere.
But Matilda's perfect egg
stayed on Percy's spoon
and he won the race.
Matilda was so thrilled,
she did a lot of clucking.
(hen clucks)
Then laid another
egg to celebrate.
(magical sparkles)

How can you tell if
an egg's hard-boiled?
Does it look different?
- No, but you can
tell by spinning it.
- Spinning it?
- Yes, if the insides
are still all runny,
then it won't spin.
- Oh.
- But if it spins like this one,
it means it's hard-boiled
and won't break easily
if you drop it.
- Wow!
That spins really well!
Um, what about that one?
- Try it!

- That one won't spin.
So that means, it must still
be runny inside, right?
- That's right!

That's a fun way of finding
out if your egg will break.
If you bang a hard-boiled

which he'd found for
our game of hoobyguess.

- [Groove] So I tried
to keep my egg warm
to see if a painted baby

egg didn't hatch,
Ivor wanted to
use it for a race.
- [Ivor] But Groove
wouldn't let me

want it to break.
- [Toola] But then we found
out from some Tiddlypeeps,
how you could find out if
an egg was hard-boiled.
- [Groove] So we did
the spinning test
and we found out that
it was hard-boiled!
But that still didn't tell
us why it was painted.
- [Toola] Then Roma told
us that Peeps eat eggs!
- [Groove] We ate the egg
the Tiddlypeeps gave us
but we still didn't know
why my egg was painted.
That's when we went to
find more Tiddlypeeps
and the ones I found,
were painting eggs,
for a special egg hunt.

chocolate eggs to share
with Ivor and Toola.

- Because painted eggs are

That's when we went to
find more Tiddlypeeps
and the ones I found,
were painting eggs,
for a special egg hunt.
