I'm Hubba-Hubba, talking

to you from Hoobland

and I'm about to send four

of my favorite Hoobs down

to Earth to find out all about

you for my great Hoobapedia.

Here they come!

(space-like beeping)

(ascending whistle)

(air whooshes)

- Ivor!

- (laughs) Oh!

- (laughs) Wahey!

♪ The Hoobs are here

so what do you say ♪

♪ Hoobs ♪

- (gasps) Oh, yes!

Ivor, I found something

for our game of hoobyguess.

- (chuckles) Oh,

good, go on then!

- You'll never guess what it is.

- (laughs) Oh, try me.

- Guess what I've

got in my hoobypaw,

I'll give you three guesses,

then I'll give you one more.

- Um, is is a hoobnip?

- Oh, you guessed it right away!

How did you know?

- I could smell it!

(laughs)

- Oh hoobybother (huffs)

- Your turn then,

you find something?

- Oh, yes right, um.

- I've just found

something for our game

and you will never

guess what it is.

- That's what I said but

then Ivor guessed it.

- Well he won't guess this.

- Oh, try me!

- Guess what I've

got in my hoobypaw.

I'll give you three guesses,

then I'll give you one more.

(giggles)

- Um, is it square?

- Hmm, nope.

- Oh.

- Uh, is it round?

- Well, it's roundish.

- Roundish, roundish, roundish!

Could it be, an egg?

- Yes!

- Yes! (laughs)

- But not quite.

- What do you mean not quite?

Either it is an egg or it isn't.

- Well, it's an egg

but it's special.

(strings plucking)

(gasps)

- It's painted!

- (gasps) Why is

Groove's egg painted?

- [Echoing Voice] Hubba,

Hubba, Hubba, Hubba!

- It's Hubba-Hubba.

- Why is Groove's egg painted?

That is just the sort of

thing that Hoobs everywhere

will want to know!

Yes, the perfect

question for Hoob News

and the answer can go right

into my Great Hoobapedia.

- (laughs) Do you have any idea

why Groove's egg is

painted Hubba-Hubba?

- Well, none whatsoever.

But I'll email Roma to

see what she can find out

and let's see what there

is on Hoobnet about eggs

to get us started.

(space-like beeping)

(giddy piano music)

Now, here are some eggs Hoobs,

but they're not

painted are they?

- [Groove] No.

- [Toola] Oh.

- [Hubba-Hubba] Well those

eggs came from a chicken

and there are some chickens

on a farm, you see?

And these little chicks

hatch out of the eggs

because the chicken

sits on the eggs

to keep them warm

until they hatch.

(giddy piano music)

And here's one

sitting on an egg now!

Ah, look at how many

different colors

and sizes of eggs there are.

(giddy piano music)

(space-like beeping)

- Wow, those hens

were hoobily groobily!

- Well, we know that

eggs come from chickens.

- And baby chicks

come from eggs.

(clucks like chicken)

- Hey, hey, maybe

my egg is painted

because there's a

painted chick inside?

- Oh.

- Good thinking Groove!

- Hmm, I can't see

inside it and it,

I can't hear anything either.

- That doesn't mean there

isn't a painted chick inside.

We need to find out if there is.

But how?

♪ Hooow how how how ♪

♪ How how how ♪

♪ How how hooow how how ♪

- (gasps) I know how!

The mother hen sat on her

egg before it hatched,

so maybe if you on yours

Groove, it will hatch

and a baby painted

chick will come out!

- Hoobacious idea Toola!

- Yeah, all right then.

Oh no, wait a minute, I might

break the egg if I sit on it,

I'm a bit heavier than a hen.

- Yes, but Hubba-Hubba

said hens sit on their eggs

to keep them warm.

How else are you going

to keep your egg warm?

(breathes onto egg)

(comical trumpet music)

- Yep, uh, that's no good.

Um, oh I know!

(comical trumpet music)

Uh, under my chin?

- Oh (chuckles).

(mumbles)

Careful!

- I know, I'll put

it under my arm.

Very gently.

(gasps)

Here we go.

Ha, it's quite cold!

(laughs)

There we go, come on

warm up little egg.

(clucks like chicken)

- Hooby galooby!

Now, when it gets warm, a

painted chick might hatch out.

Ooh, I can't wait!

- Me neither!

(giggles)

- [Echoing Voice] Hubba,

Hubba, Hubba, Hubba,!

- It's Hubba-Hubba.

- Hoobledoop Hoobs!

Have you found out yet why

Groove's egg is painted?

- No, but Groove is

just warming it up,

to see if it will hatch

into a painted chick!

- Well, that's a good start.

Now, a Tiddlypeep just sent

me a fantabby hooby story

about an egg.

Maybe you'd like to listen

to it while you're waiting.

- [Groove] Yeah.

(space-like beeping)

(tranquil flute music)

(cock crows)

- [Young Boy] Once upon a time,

there was a hen called Matilda.

She was trying to lay a

beautiful, big, brown egg

for her friend Percy.

- Come on!

- [Young Boy] It needed to be

just the right size,

- Come one!

- [Young Boy] to fit into

Percy's special egg-race spoon.

- [Hoobs] Oh.

- [Young Boy] So far,

she had laid three.

Percy tried the first

one in his spoon.

"Too small."

(deep saxophone note)

Then he tried the second.

(puzzled piano tune)

"Too big."

(deep saxophone note)

Then he tried the third.

(light chimes)

"Too round!"

"Oh Matilda, none of these

eggs are the right shape

for my egg-race spoon, they'll

all fall off and smash!"

Percy was in despair.

"I'm in despair", he cried.

"I really want to win the

egg-and-spoon race this year.

"Eric Braithwaite

always wins it!

"It must be my turn!

"Please try one more

time for me Matilda."

Matilda concentrated really

hard and out came another egg.

(triumphant sparkling)

Percy put the egg on the spoon.

It was a perfect fit!

He ran off to start the race.

Ready, steady, go!

The race was neck in neck.

Eric Braithwaite was just

about to overtake Percy when,

- [Eric] Noooo!

- [Young Boy] Splat!

The egg fell off

his spoon and broke.

Runny yolk went everywhere.

But Matilda's perfect egg

stayed on Percy's spoon

and he won the race.

Matilda was so thrilled,

she did a lot of clucking.

(hen clucks)

Then laid another

egg to celebrate.

(magical sparkles)

(laughs)

(space-like beeping)

- Oh, clever Matilda!

- Hey, wasn't she though

hey, yeah! (laughs)

- Be careful Groove!

Eggs can break if you drop them.

- Hey, what?

Oh, yeah, yeah you're right.

Ooh, the pressure.

- When the eggs in

the story got broken,

they had a gooey, yellow

bit inside, not a chick.

- So, not all eggs have

chicks inside them?

Even if you keep them warm?

- Well I've been

warming my egg for ages

and nothing's happened,

so my painted egg obviously

doesn't have a chick inside.

♪ I found this painted

egg a while ago ♪

♪ But why on

earth's it painted ♪

♪ That's what we'd

like to know ♪

♪ Well chicks come out of eggs ♪

♪ We know that's true ♪

♪ If we knew what it was like

to do what little chicks do ♪

♪ Then we could all

pretend to really speak ♪

♪ Just like a little chicken

with feathers and a beak ♪

♪ We'd go ♪

♪ Cluck cluck cluck

cluck cluck cluck cluck ♪

♪ Waddle waddle

waddle on the floor ♪

♪ We'd waddle cluck and flap ♪

♪ Then take a nap ♪

♪ Then cluck flap and

waddle some more ♪

♪ What are painted eggs for ♪

♪ We're really not sure ♪

♪ But the answer

we'll soon spot ♪

♪ If we were chicks we'd know ♪

♪ Yeah here we go ♪

- Yeah, the problem

is we're not.

- Oh come on Groove.

- Give it a go.

- Oh all right.

♪ Cluck cluck cluck cluck ♪

♪ Flap flap flap flap ♪

♪ Waddle waddle

waddle on the floor ♪

♪ We'd waddle cluck and flap ♪

♪ Then take a nap ♪

♪ Then cluck flap and

waddle some more ♪

♪ We could lift a leg ♪

♪ Lay an egg ♪

♪ Watch it roll

across the floor ♪

♪ Then waddle cluck and flap ♪

♪ And take another nap ♪

♪ Then cluck flap and

waddle some more ♪

(clucks like chicken)

Do you know what?

I quite like being a chicken.

- Yes but we still don't know

why your egg is painted Groove.

- Maybe it's because

your supposed to put it

on a painted spoon and

run a race with it!

- I'll paint a spoon.

- Hey, what?

No, no, no, no, Toola,

Toola, Toola, Toola,

no, Toola, no, no, no,

no, stop right there!

We are not running

a race with my egg.

- But why not Groove?

We need to see if

that's what it's for.

- Maybe, but I don't want

my egg falling off the spoon

and getting smashed like

Eric's did in the story.

- But Groove, we

need to test it!

- Forget it Ivor.

None of the eggs in

the story were painted!

- Eggsactly.

So that's not why

my egg is painted.

- No, but there must

be a reason why it is.

- Yes, but what?

♪ What ♪

- I have no idea what.

- Me neither.

- [Echoing Voice] Hubba,

Hubba, Hubba, Hubba!

- Ah, Hubba-Hubba might know.

- Hoobledoop Hoobs!

I've just had a thought

and it's a very good one

if I do say so myself.

(laughing)

- Yes?

- What is it Hubba-Hubba?

- Perhaps you should go

and visit some Tiddlypeeps.

- Now, that is a hoobacious

idea Hubba-Hubba!

Tiddlypeeps will

know about eggs!

- I'll go!

- I'm going to drive.

- And I'll stay here and

peck (clucks like chicken).

- Hoobledoop Tiddlypeeps!

- [Tiddlypeeps] Hello Toola!

- Do you want to

do a hooby hello?

- [Tiddlypeeps] Yes!

- [All] Hoobledoop, hoobledoop,

whoop, whoop, whoop!

- Oh, what you doing

with those eggs?

- We're spinning them to

see if they're hard-boiled.

- Hard-boiled?

- [Ivor] Strange.

- Yeah.

- What you mean?

- Well you know and

egg can easily break?

- Yes, they're all

yellow and runny inside.

- [Groove] Yeah!

- If they're hard-boiled, it

means the egg has been boiled

for a long time by a grown

up, until it's hard inside.

- So it can't break!

- Hooby galooby!

How can you tell if

an egg's hard-boiled?

Does it look different?

- No, but you can

tell by spinning it.

- Spinning it?

- Yes, if the insides

are still all runny,

then it won't spin.

- Oh.

- But if it spins like this one,

it means it's hard-boiled

and won't break easily

if you drop it.

- Wow!

That spins really well!

Um, what about that one?

- Try it!

(grunts)

Oh.

- Not hard-boiled.

- That one won't spin.

So that means, it must still

be runny inside, right?

- That's right!

- Hooby galooby!

That's a fun way of finding

out if your egg will break.

If you bang a hard-boiled

egg against something.

(egg knocks)

It will cr*ck!

And you can start to peel it.

Then you can see how the

insides have gone all hard!

- Hooby galooby!

Can I take this one home

to show Ivor and Groove?

- Yes.

- Of course you can.

- Oh, thank you so

much Tiddlypeeps.

Hooble toodle doo!

- [Tiddlypeeps]

(playful piano music)

- Right, when Toola gets back,

we will spin my painted egg.

- Good idea Groove!

- Wait for me, wait for me!

- Well done Toola,

that spinning trick

is an excellent thing to know.

- Yes, aren't the

Tiddlypeeps hoobely groobely?

- Oh yeah, we will

now spin my egg,

to find out if it's hard-boiled.

(egg scratches)

Hooby galooby, it spins!

- That means it's hard-boiled!

- Which means it's insides

are not all sloppy.

- Uh, but it still doesn't

tell us why my egg is painted.

- Oh, and we've got to find out,

it's almost time for Hoob News!

- [Echoing Voice] Roma,

Roma, Roma, Roma, Roma.

- Oh good, it's Roma, maybe

she'll have the answer.

- Hoobledoop Hoobs!

- [All] Hoobledoop Roma!

- Hubba-Hubba's asked me to

find out what I can about eggs.

And I discovered the

most amazing thing!

- [Groove] Oh yeah?

- Peeps like to eat them!

And not only that, but

they like to prepare them

in different ways

before eating them.

- But where are you Roma?

- Well I was just

getting to that Toola.

I've come here to a

restaurant, so I can try out

all the different sorts of egg

meals that Peeps like to eat.

Now, they particularly like

them like this for breakfast.

- [Ivor] Breakfast.

- [Roma] The egg is boiled

and put in an egg-cup

just like this delicious

one I'm eating now.

- Yeah, but it's not painted.

(chews)

- Hmm hoobacious!

(plate scratches)

Other Peeps like

their eggs, scrambled.

- [Groove] That's not painted.

- No Roma.

- Not painted.

- Or fried.

- [Groove And Ivor] Fried.

- Or poached.

Or even made into something

round like a hoobarama,

called an omelet.

- Roma, are any of

those eggs painted?

- Hmm, what was that Groove?

- I said, are any of

those eggs painted?

- Fantabbyhooby.

- Roma!

- Oh no, this one.

- I don't think she's

listening

- Oh, this is Roma Hoob,

feeling rather, eggy

and reporting for Hoob News.

- [Groove] But Roma what about

the painted.

- Can we ask you

- Oh, I think the scrambled.

No, the hoobarama.

- Roma!

- Oh dear.

- Painted!

- The poached egg.

- [Groove] Roma.

- Ah, give me a taste.

and it wasn't painted.

- Hmm, you're right.

[Echoing Voice] Hubba, Hubba,

- How's it going Hoobs?

- We found out a hoobload

of things about eggs.

- Yeah, but not why

mine is painted.

- Have you got any

- If Tiddlypeeps know

- Of course!

- Well I'm sure it's okay.

We hide them so other

people can find them.

Maybe you can hide it again.

- Oh, that's a great idea!

And then another

Tiddlypeep can find it.

- Yes, that's a good idea.

(playful guitar music)

- Oh right.

- Me too? (chuckles)

Huh, is this egg hard-boiled?

- No, it's a chocolate egg!

- Taste it!

(grunts)

You have to take

the wrapper off.

(laughs)

- Oh my.

- (giggles) He didn't know!

(egg knocks on counter)

- Hmm.

Oh, thank you.

(chews)

(swallows)

Hooby groovy!

That chocolate egg

is hooberlicious.

Hmm (chews)

- You can have another one

to share with the others.

- (gasps) Oh goody!

- Thank you!

Ivor and Toola will love these.

welcome to Hoob News, the news

show for Hoobs everywhere.

I'm Ivor.

- I'm Toola.

- And I'm Groove.

- And today we've been

asking a question.

- Why is Groove's egg painted?

It all started when Groove

showed us a painted egg,

which he'd found for

our game of hoobyguess.

- [Groove] Hubba-Hubba found

us hoobloads of chickens

on Hoobnet and we found out

that hens sit on

eggs to hatch them.

- [Toola] And baby

chicks come out.

- [Groove] So I tried

to keep my egg warm

to see if a painted baby

chick might hatch out.

- [Ivor] While we were

waiting, Hubba-Hubba showed us

a hoobacious story about

an egg-and-spoon race.

- [Groove] When my

egg didn't hatch,

Ivor wanted to

use it for a race.

- [Ivor] But Groove

wouldn't let me

because he didn't

want it to break.

- [Toola] But then we found

out from some Tiddlypeeps,

how you could find out if

an egg was hard-boiled.

- [Groove] So we did

the spinning test

and we found out that

it was hard-boiled!

But that still didn't tell

us why it was painted.

- [Toola] Then Roma told

us that Peeps eat eggs!

- [Groove] We ate the egg

the Tiddlypeeps gave us

but we still didn't know

why my egg was painted.

That's when we went to

find more Tiddlypeeps

and the ones I found,

were painting eggs,

for a special egg hunt.

(playful guitar music)

So, I got the answer and

chocolate eggs to share

with Ivor and Toola.

- So the answer to the question,

why is Groove's egg painted is.

- Because painted eggs are

used for a special egg hunt.

- [All] Hoob hoob hooray!

(clucks like chicken)

(laughs)

- Ooh, I think I've laid an egg!

(laughs)

Ivor, Toola, groove and Roma

for giving Hoobs everywhere
