barney is a dinosaur from our

imagination

and when he's tall he's what we call a

dinosaur sensation

barney's friends are big and small they

come from lots of

play and places with happy faces barney

shows us lots of things like how to play

pretend

abcs and how to be a friend everybody

comes to play with

us may need

him are we all ready for our

make-believe jungle adventure yeah let's

find the secret treasure come on

first we crawl through the bushes

now we swim through the river

oh we made it

run from the lions come on

pretending to be explorers those are

people that go places like a scary

jungle or a high mountain

explorers like to learn about people and

places and things we'd all like to be

explorers but we can't really go

anywhere so we're just playing

make-believe oh

but but wait i know someplace you can go

it has lots of really fun things to do

and to see and to learn about

it's right here you can be explorers in

your very own neighborhood

we can oh well sure we can there are

lots of things to see around here if you

really look that's right

but barney i'm exploring the telescope

well i guess if you need a telescope

neighborhood

what do i see

some houses and cars and kids like me i

see buildings made of brick others made

of wood i see people helping people

i can even see a shiny red fire truck

see there are lots of interesting things

oh i'm looking around my neighborhood

and what do i see

see people and their pets and it makes

me feel good to know that i'm a part of

my neighborhood

there's the school

and a tree

i can see the post office and the

library oh boy

well i guess you're a real explorer now

sean there really are a lot of things to

see in our neighborhood and lots of

people too in fact the people that live

close to you are called neighbors that's

right neighbors are the people you see

almost every day can you think of some

people like that hey i know one

i'm mrs washington from down the street

i'm very nice i live in a blue house and

i have five cats hi neighbors hi my

neighbor

i'm the police officer who helps keep

everyone around here safe hi neighbors

school crossing guard i help you know

when it's safe to cross the street hi

and i play with barney

what is a neighborhood well a

neighborhood is all of the homes and the

streets and the families who live close

to you and the people in the

neighborhood take care of each other too

what does a neighborhood look like well

it has stores and schools and lots of

other things too come to school and we

can show you great okay oh yeah after

you oh this will be fun

what a lovely neighborhood

everyone keeps their yard so nice

see baby bop this is what a neighborhood

there's homes where the families live

and there's a school and a grocery store

and a post office and a library and a

restaurant and those are streets with

cars

we have to be careful crossing streets

we sure do when it comes to crossing

streets i want all my friends to

remember the safety rules

she stopped she's looking both ways and

listening for cars she's being careful

when you were little did you have to

oh when i was just a little dinosaur

there weren't any streets that was

straight and no cars and no buildings

and no people my neighborhood didn't

look like yours at all well what did it

look like barney it looked like this

was my old neighborhood a long long long

time ago

that picture reminds me of a scary dream

i had once would you like to hear it

okay we'll have a seat and i'll tell you

scary stories i love them oh scary

well i dreamed that i was living with

the dinosaurs

and most of them were really nice like

barney and baby bop oh shucks

but some of them were a little bit scary

anyway

there i was in the deep dark jungle i

wasn't bothering anyone then suddenly i

hear a sound from behind me and i looked

and it was the biggest dinosaur of them

all and he screamed

so i started to walk away but the

dinosaur followed me he crashed through

the bushes

he splashed through the rivers

he knocked down trees and then he caught

up with me and he screamed again

and i looked at him and i said hey mr

dinosaur

what are you screaming for

and he said

i scream

for ice cream

ice cream you scream we all scream for

classroom is a neighborhood and we could

show her some of the things in a real

neighborhood

very good baby buff at the neighborhood

post office we gather up all the mail

mail is letters and packages then we

take it to the people whose names are on

the front

i see that this letter is supposed to go

to the neighborhood library oh we'd be

happy to take it there for you the

library is our very next stop well you

can be my special helper

what is library well a library is a big

building that's filled with lots and

lots of books about all kinds of things

oh so many i don't know which book to

look at that's why there's a librarian

the librarian is a person who knows

where all the books are and they can

help you find a book that's just right

for you really that's right it makes me

happy to help people find books to read

oh the library is always one of my

favorite places to go

store the post office and the library

visit derek's make-believe neighborhood

never ends here's what we did today

today we had a super deep duper good

time playing games and singing songs and

learning some things about neighborhoods

we found out that a neighborhood is the

place where your home is

there are buildings where people work

and live

and there are streets

do you remember what we learned about

crossing streets

we stop

look and listen

only cross at the corners

and always hold hands with a grown-up

of course another part of the

neighborhood is the people that you see

every day

or just having fun

today you got a good look at our

neighborhood
