- [Narrator] Previously on "The Amazing Race."

teams set out from Venice, Italy

and made their way to Vienna, Austria.

The pressures of the race wore down

on teams both emotionally...

- I'm sick of being behind because you can't keep up.

- [Narrator] And physically.

- It makes me not breathe.

- [Narrator] First blood was drawn when Millie and Chip

battled for a ride to their next clue.

- God, he's a jerk!

I wasn't even gonna touch you until

you slammed my head backwards.

I mean, because you started the manhandling crap.

- [Narrator] Steve and Josh displayed some nimble moves

to claim the Fast Forward.

- Got it!

Oh, we got it!

- [Narrator] Tensions mounted.

- Are you Ret*rded?

- If you would let me think for a second. Thank you.

Appreciate that.

- [Narrator] And alliances were broken.

- If you're gonna talk

and say you're gonna look for us, that's great.

But if we're gonna rely on that

and then you're not gonna be paying attention first

and then we're back here.

- [Narrator] Teams brave the highest tower jump in Europe.

- Woo!

- [Narrator] And in the end, Russell and Cindy

arrive last and were eliminated.

- We had an amazing time, though.

[dramatic music]

- [Narrator] Nine teams remain.

Who will be eliminated tonight?

[dramatic music]

[dramatic music]

[dramatic music]

[dramatic music]

[uplifting music]

- This is Seeschloss Ort,

a year old castle in western Austria.

This was the third pit stop

in a race around the world.

Teams arrived here at the end of

the last leg for a mandatory rest period.

Will Millie and Chuck continue

to be slowed down by Millie's asthma?

Will Reichen and Chip's aggressiveness

continue to alienate other teams?

Steve and Josh, who were first to arrive

at : P.M. will depart at : A.M.

- Whoa.

- Get to an airport and fly to Paris.

Then make your way to the Circuit Bugatti in Le Mans.

- [Narrator] Teams must now fly more

than miles to Paris, France.

Once in Paris, they'll have to travel

to the town of Le Mans and make their way

to the famous Le Mans racetrack,

where they'll find their next route marker.

- You have dollars this leg of the race.

- Let's go.

- For Steve? - Steve and Josh.

- That's us, awesome! - Yes, that's us.

- We're getting the train to go to Salzburg.

Right? - No, we drive to Salzburg.

- We don't drive to Salzburg, it's kilometers.

- You drive to Salzburg!

- No you don't, you take the train.

- So we're ready to go and we started out the gate arguing.

- Train station?

It's like an to dollar cab drive to Salzburg.

It's not worth that extra money.

Salzburg, : is the next one.

We'll all be here. We'll all be bunched up again.

- I don't know if this was such a good idea.

- You have dollars for this leg of the race.

That's , let's go.

- , okay.

- Our husbands are professional athletes

and when we travel, people take care of us.

Out here on our own, we've got to take care

of ourselves and each other.

And it just showed me, wow, we can really do this.

Taxi!

Can we go straight to Salzburg airport?

- Yes.

- Okay, that's where we wanna go.

Put your seatbelt on.

- We're going to Paris, baby!

- Woo!

- To get yourselves to an airport and fly to Paris.

- Salzburg airport.

- We're not taking the train, we're taking a taxi.

- I think we just get there.

We're very competitive with each other.

My biggest fear is we get so involved

in trying to be right that we start bickering

and not being aware of what's around us.

- Take it out, take it out.

- Get yourselves to an airport and fly to Paris.

- Hello. - Let's go, baby.

No, I want that.

- No, no, no.

- We're not throwing it away. - I will buy you one.

- No, no, no! I like that one. - Baby, it's extra weight.

- It's an everyday battle, you know?

It's just stressful.

- Do you see anybody here?

- Not yet, they'll be here.

In about five, minutes. - I'll bet ya five bucks,

I'll bet ya five bucks they drive to the airport.

- Fine.

Let 'em, let 'em blow their money.

- You're really wrong on this one.

Stingy man, Scrooge.

Little McScrooge.

- You'll see, when everybody else gets here.

You'll understand and I won't hear a word from you.

- Get the bags.

- Euros.

- The : goes to Frankfurt.

- Take care.

- Thank you.

Hey, how ya doing?

- What's going on?

- Hey. - We caught up to you.

- Is this the train to Salzburg?

- This one.

- Awesome, thank you.

- Hey, do you see anybody else here?

- No, I don't.

It's a frigging ghost train.

I apologize, I was wrong.

- See, sometimes Dad's right.

- Please be warm.

- Get yourselves to an airport and fly to Paris.

- [Millie] I tend to push Chuck, you know.

He's a little bit slower than me

and so it's just hard for me to be patient sometimes.

- [Chuck] Millie is super competitive.

Sometimes it can not necessarily be

a good thing in a relationship.

- Paris, oui-oui!

Ha, ha, ha!

- All right. Go, go, go. - Go, go, go!

- Go, go, go!

- Guys!

I really like Jon and Al.

- We help each other out with information,

buying tickets and stuff like that.

But when it comes down to it,

everyone's on their own.

- Hey, there's something.

- Taxi.

- We thought we might be flying,

so we had all stayed up the night before

kind of figuring out the flight schedules.

- We chose the Munich airport because we heard

that it's a bigger hub.

- Train to Munich.

- Train to Munich.

- You have dollars for this leg of the race.

- .

- Is the money right?

Let's go.

- We thought our physical game

would be a benefit to us.

That has actually been our detriment.

We need to put more emphasis on the mental part.

And now we're going to Munich to fly to Paris.

- Fly to Paris!

Let's go.

- Which airport is closer?

- Salzburg.

- I'm sick of looking at Jon's ass.

He's always a mile ahead of me.

I need to feel like I'm part of the team

and I would like to be part of the team so he should let me.

Don't you agree?

- Yeah.

[chuckling]

- Kell, come on! Come down here.

- Taxi.

[dramatic music]

- Guys!

Nobody else is here, let's go.

- The train to Munich airport.

- And that's the fastest one?

- Yes.

- Okay, let's just make sure we are on this flight.

We're gonna fly to Frankfurt and then to Paris.

- Whew.

- You go, girl.

Yeah.

- I need to get to Paris the same way.

Okay, thank you so much.

- The plane is full.

- After Tian and Jaree and The Supremes checked in

the plane was filled up.

I just can't believe it.

- Auf wiedersehen.

- We don't have much time at all.

- Let's hustle.

- Thank you.

- There's Dave and Jeff.

Jon and Kelly are here.

Are you all gonna go to Munich or Salzburg?

- To be honest with you, I really don't know.

- We're not sure.

- We thought Munich might be the best route

and I don't think Jon and Kelly knew about it.

Withholding information is totally ethical in my mind

and totally competitive.

- Millie didn't wanna have anything to do with us

and just blew us off.

I don't know if it's just her personality

or she's just super, super competitive.

- Right here, it's right here.

- There it is. - Yeah.

- Jon is this it? Come on!

[dramatic music]

- Jeff and Dave, Millie and Chuck on the train

as well as the Clowns.

You can kinda tell that they're just trying

to give us the heave ho.

- Now our lead is diminished.

- It's gone.

Not diminished.

We need tickets to Paris.

It's full?

- It's full.

- Oh, crap.

- Sorry, Reichen.

I love you, Reichen.

- Ha, ha.

- Hello.

- I'm just standing here praying.

- You're in luck.

[dramatic music]

- You're good luck.

We got on the flight.

- Hey.

[contestants cheering]

- On our way to Paris, here we go.

- All right.

To win "The Amazing Race" you need

a lack of mistakes.

Steve and I, we're both air traffic controllers.

We don't make mistakes.

- We're gonna take the trains to Salzburg.

- Good morning, how are ya?

- Where do you think everybody else is?

- We hopped the train to Salzburg and realized

the other teams weren't around.

Let's go, we're on our own.

- We're leaving now at :.

Which arrives at :.

- We lost our lead by taking the train to Salzburg

and so we lost an hour.

I was being a big dumb ass.

We're not in the position we could have been in.

- Hi. - Hey, what's up?

- What'd you know?

- Hey, red dog.

- We're gonna be on the : to Zurich

and then to Paris.

We wanted Steve and Dave to be on our flight

so we knew that we weren't the only ones that were last.

See, they're so nice.

I don't wanna race against them.

Millie the Mole, that's who I wanted to beat.

She's like one of those little cheerleaders

in high school I used to throw spit wads in their hair

when they were up there cheering.

She's too peppy.

[dramatic music]

- Are we already boarding?

- We had to go Frankfurt to Paris.

- There you go.

- Thanks. - Okay, goodbye.

- Boun giorno!

- It's a great feeling, we're back in the lead.

- Sit in the front, it's business class.

- Okay. Do you mean we're not gonna take this flight?

- It says business.

It says we're on business.

You booked us business.

We're gonna get k*lled.

- We look at our tickets and you're not allowed

to buy business class tickets on "The Amazing Race."

- We're getting off the flight.

I'm not taking the risk.

I can't believe this!

- You won't be able to take this flight.

- We could run upstairs.

- Can we wait five minutes?

- No. - Please?

- No, there's no security.

No, no way.

- Please. - No way.

- Please.

Oh, please.

- No, this flight is closed, definitely.

- I can't believe this is happening.

[dramatic music]

- We watched our : plane take off

and that's when I really got down.

I need to get on the : flight.

[triumphant music]

[ominous music]

- I mean, we know we're in last. It's not a good feeling.

- I feel like really far behind.

How about you?

- Oh yeah.

- We're very impressed the BFGs.

Big fat guys.

Those guys are really, really amazing.

For them to make it this far.

- Props.

- If there's a sprint to the finish,

Steve and I are gonna finish up way behind.

If we can use our brains, we'll do just fine.

[dramatic music]

- I need to find out the quickest way

to get to Le Mans Circuit Bugatti.

- You have to go in Paris, Montparnasse station.

Next train at o'clock.

- Okay.

Come on, Sheree.

- We high tailed it.

Tian and Jaree took their time

and just kind of lolly gagged around.

Hi, we're trying to get to Le Mans.

- :.

- There was a train that left out at :.

An hour ahead of the train

that the guy had told us at the airport.

- I couldn't believe we just made this train.

- Pardon.

- How long is the cab ride?

- minutes.

- Okay, we'll do . - Great.

- Station Mont Parnasse.

We've gotta go very vite.

[dramatic music]

- All right, now we gotta go to...

- Le Mans is on number two.

- I hope we get there.

- We're gonna make it, we'll get there.

Reichen made a couple of errors

on the plane tickets and he was very upset.

And I think the only way around it now

is look at the positive side.

Others make mistakes and we're faster.

We'll get it, okay?

- Open sesame.

- What track for Le Mans?

Reichen, deux!

Two!

- Are you sure? - Yup.

- Okay.

- Well done.

I can't believe it.

- [Tian] Okay, come on super fast train.

- We ended up getting on the same train

as Tian and Jaree.

We're caught up again.

I'm so happy.

- Circuit Bugatti.

- Yeah. - This is good.

- Perfect.

- Roadblock.

The person who performs this task will need

to fit into a tight space.

I'll do it.

- A Roadblock is a task that only one person may perform.

In this Roadblock, that person has to change out

the tires on one of these race cars.

Then do a lap around the track

with a professional race car driver behind the wheel.

When they've completed their lap,

they can make their way to the winner's podium

and grab the next clue.

- This is the first time there's ever been

a Roadblock first.

Now if you get behind,

you have a little while to catch up before the detour.

- I'm gonna change over here.

- Go to the racetrack and put on one of the jumpsuits.

And choose one set of tires, get them

to the corresponding race car

and change out all four tires.

Oh god.

Oh, god.

I've never changed a tire in my life.

And then to have to change four.

Those tires were so heavy.

They probably weighed just as much as I did.

Whoa!

Okay.

[whirring]

I couldn't get the old tires off.

All this we worked for a whole hour

is getting dwindled up because I can't get it loose.

- Viva la France.

- That's right.

- Exit. Come on.

[dramatic music]

- Once I got the hang of it, it was cool.

I was so scared of losing the lead

that I got this burst of energy.

[dramatic music]

I love you, honey.

I'm scared.

- Save the Prix, baby!

[revving engine]

- Woo!

My whole body was like, pushed in,

because it was going so fast.

Woo!

When he hit those straight aways,

I mean my head was like, whew.

I tried the wave at Sheree

and my arm almost broke because how hard the wind was.

[Sheree cheering]

- Oh my god, that was scary as hell.

- Exit the track through the marked door.

Choose a marked car and drive yourself to Marseilles.

- [Narrator] Teams must now choose one of these cars

and drive themselves miles to the city of Marseilles.

Once there, they'll have to enter through port number four

and find this lighthouse where they'll get their next clue.

- Here, Sheree.

We feel great about ourselves right now.

Now we know we're far ahead of the pack.

[dramatic music]

- Go, they're there.

They're there, come on.

- Where'd they come from?

Where'd they come from?

- I have no idea. We've gotta go, we've gotta go.

- Circuit Bugatti.

- Bugatti?

- First. - We have to be first.

- Un.

- Watch out, he's gonna pass him.

Go, go, go.

- Sweet.

- Fast, fast, fast.

Bravo!

[light clapping]

Go, go, go!

- There's the mark, I see it. Straight ahead, go!

- This way, this way!

Go, go, go!

- Right here, come on!

Good job.

- Good job, guys.

- This is funny.

- Roadblock!

- Okay, Roadblock.

- You wanna drive it, so go ahead.

- If you wanna drive it, you can do it.

- Go ahead, man.

- It's you.

- Tian does a lot of things really quickly

and so there's some pressure on me.

Like, god, I have to beat her, I have to beat her.

- Come on, Chip!

- [Tian] We're just as strong as the guys.

I just wanna prove how strong women can be.

- I think he'll beat Tian, but I don't know,

she's a little daredevil so, who knows.

Come on, Chip!

[whirring]

[dramatic music]

- Huh?

- Come on.

Yeah!

I have the worst luck with cars.

- Woo!

- Go, go, go, go!

[dramatic music]

- Woo!

[revving engines]

- Woo!

- Choose a marked car and drive yourselves to Marseilles.

This is an absolute dream come true.

To drive Le Mans with a race car driver.

- Yeah!

[dramatic music]

- Welcome to France, eh?

- We're so far behind.

- Jon it's right here, you freak.

You just ignore me.

You should let me be % of the team.

Can I do the next Roadblock?

- If you feel comfortable doing it.

- Can I do the next Roadblock?

- Yes. - Thank you.

- I can't breathe, you should.

- Oh, yeah.

Roadblock.

- This can be you.

Chuck is incredibly methodical sometimes

and just slow moving.

And I am so the opposite.

Oh my gosh!

- Come on, baby!

- Go, go, go, baby. Come on.

[whirring]

[revving engine]

- Hey, hey, hold on a second.

Hold on.

- What's that?

- Can you unbuckle a second?

Unbuckle it, will ya?

Every once in awhile I get

a little streak of claustrophobia.

I couldn't breathe.

I was freaked out.

- Good, you did it, baby, you did it!

- Let's go, baby!

Woo!

Where we going?

- Marseilles.

- Woo, hoo, hoo!

- Hustle, let's go! Come on, Chucky.

- Feeling tight! Hot and tight.

It's not good timing, I know.

- Come on, Chuck, you gotta hustle.

You gotta hustle.

- Whew.

Please God, help me.

I did say a prayer. I asked God to help me out

with the fear that I was having.

[revving engine]

I've never done anything like that,

but as far as being in a tight space,

I was freaked out for a little while.

I was nervous.

- Are you okay?

- Choose a marked car and drive yourselves to Marseilles.

- Okay, let's go, let's go.

- Merci, au revoir.

- Take all the way to Marseilles.

- Okay, I see it.

- This looks like the fastest to stay

on the freeway directly.

- Okay, we do that.

- What we didn't realize, it would have been easier

to jump on the expressway.

- How was it?

- Unbelievable.

All right, let's go.

[revving engine]

- That was intense.

- Let's go.

- We have to go find a lot of small roads.

It's just a long, long, long, long, long trip.

[light music]

- It's a Roadblock.

It's gonna be me.

I have to do something.

- Okay, let's do it.

- Change out all four tires?

Oh god.

God, wouldn't ya know it,

the first freakin Roadblock I choose!

- Ha, ha!

- This sucks!

- Performs this task will need to fit into a tight space.

- Ho, ho!

- Hiya!

- Stick it on where?

- Stick it right on there.

- For real?

- I'm scared.

- Come on, babe.

- I know!

My hand was on there, thank you very much.

The BFGs are coming.

[whirring]

- Perfect, all right, yay!

She's the perfect size to fit in that car.

I think Dave is gonna have a problem.

- Woo!

[dramatic music]

This should take her stress level

and kind of, like a woman's orgasm.

They bitch about it.

They're hard to come by and when they finally get 'em,

they're good for about a week.

- Woo-hoo!

That was awesome.

Drive yourselves to Marseilles.

Woo-hoo!

- We take a right at the end of the exit ramp.

- Right here?

It says port four right there.

- Once in Marseilles, find the Sainte Marie Lighthouse.

- It's closed until nine o'clock tomorrow.

- All right, okay.

How can we be first in line?

- You couldn't be first in line.

- And you're sure we can't wait here?

- No.

- We are going to spend the night

here in Marseilles and get some rest.

- It's right over there.

Where the [censored] is everybody else?

- They're in a hotel sleeping, probably.

- This is it? Okay. - Yeah.

- Do port four.

- We decided that we were gonna spend the night in our car.

We wanted to be the first in line

when it came time to take the next clue.

- That's Jeff and David.

- We're driving through pretty much

all of France in one night.

- It's a nice little drive.

- It sucked.

- Quick little hour drive all the way across France.

- [Kelly] Yippee!

- The expressway is by far the fastest way to Marseilles.

- One, two, three.

[chuckling]

- We started in ninth place, dead last.

We got to Marseilles in third place.

- Hey, someone's inside there.

The security officers told us

we couldn't park in front of the entrance.

So we had to circle around and pull up

on the soft shoulder of the exit ramp.

- We parked one, two, three along this road.

Throughout the night other cars arrived there.

At that point in time it was a line of six cars.

[light music]

- There are all the teams up there already.

- Really?

- Yeah, six teams already.

- You can park your car on the, near the door.

- By the door?

- We show up at the port and he tells us

not to park where everyone else is because there's

already too many cars there.

- Okay, so we can just wait by the gate?

- Well, that might make us number one.

- Tian and Jaree somehow feel privileged to just pull up

at the last minute and get in the front of the line.

- They didn't break in front of us when we...

- We're not breaking, we are parking where

that guy told us to park.

- Hey, we don't have to wait in line down there.

There are the girls.

Let's talk to 'em for a sec.

- Well, I'm only doing what the guy said.

If it happens to give me an advantage, well then, so be it.

- We spent the night in our car feeling like

a little pretzel and you think you gonna drive up

being in a hotel and lolly gag up to the front, no.

- I think the whole group should walk up there

and say something, don't you?

- Absolutely.

- You guys planning on staying right there?

- That's where the guy down there told us to park.

- Is that where you're gonna park right here?

- I don't know, I'm staying right here.

- That's where he said for us to park.

- Okay, well, right there is where the line is right now.

So I wanna know, are you guys gonna park right here?

- I really don't know yet.

I really don't know.

- This is going back.

- I'm not even getting involved

in this conversation.

- Tian, where do you consider yourself on line?

- I'm not fighting with anybody,

so don't even ask me questions.

- Hey guys.

- Wait, wait, wait.

- Just check your tires, all right.

Hey girls, you too.

Just check your tires when you pull out, because,

oh god, you never know what'll happen.

[ominous music]

[dramatic music]

- I think we should go back there.

- Okay, if that's what you need to do,

then I'm gonna do it.

- Yeah.

- Reichen and Chip pulled back there.

- I'm not pulling back!

Who's team are you on?

- I'm on our team, but I don't--

- They just wanna win.

- We wanna play fair, we don't--

- We are playing fair! - I know.

- We're parking where they told us to park, Jaree.

That's the end of the story.

- Everybody, for the record,

we just went to the back of the line.

- Are you guys parking in the back of the line?

- Yeah, we're back there now! - Then hey, you know what?

- No, I don't wanna shake his hand

because everyone's questioning my integrity.

I was here at : last night, first in line.

Talked to the police, talked to security guards.

And everyone sitting here is saying I'm a [beeping].

- You guys think you're privileged.

- What?

- You go up to the beginning of the line,

you're not square with an answer.

- Wait a second.

- We asked you a question, squarely, what are you gonna do?

We don't know.

- We didn't know.

- Guys, come on.

You know what, you're pissing into the wind.

- Don't question my integrity!

And Jeff that's bull [censored]!

- I know that if we pulled in front of them

that they're gonna freak out.

[dramatic music]

[church bells ringing]

- Go on.

I didn't know when I parked there

that the reaction was gonna be that crazy.

- I can't believe they even doubted

the integrity of me and Tian.

- Authorization and maps.

- You wouldn't by any chance tell us

where the lighthouse is, could ya?

- We wanna go to hangar eight.

- Follow Jon and Al.

- Go to the right, go to the right!

Go to the right!

- There's a bridge that goes across.

- Whatever.

- Come on, Kell, look at the map.

- Yup, we gotta go over that bridge.

This is right.

- Over the bridge? - Yeah.

- Yup.

- You gotta help me, Kell.

- I told you to turn around and go the other way.

That's the way I think it is.

- Lighthouse?

Not here?

- To the lighthouse.

That way? Okay.

- There it is.

- I don't see any other cars here.

I think it's the other way.

- Kelly, how many times do I gotta prove you wrong?

Look.

- I'm very sorry.

Hurry up, here comes everybody.

Drive yourself to marked parking lot at Gorges Du Blavet.

- [Narrator] Teams must now drive themselves

miles to this mountain range,

the Gorges Du Blavet, where they'll find

their next route marker.

- There they go, on our coattails again, Al.

- We found the lighthouse.

- Drive yourself to the marked parking lot.

- At the Gorges Du Blavet.

- Located on the mountain road, D

between Le Mote and Bagnols en Foret.

- Let's go.

- Let's go, we've gotta get outta here.

- That's it, straight ahead, though isn't it?

- Look!

Millie the Mole, she's a little jackrabbit.

She's getting on my nerves.

Here, act like we're looking.

- Just say we don't know where it is.

- Is it there? All right, I did a fake out!

Ha, ha, ha!

- Did you see Kelly acting like she was looking for it?

- She's so catty.

- The Gorges Du Blavet.

- Come on, Chuck!

- Drive yourselves to the marked parking lot

at the Gorges Du Blavet.

- We gotta go.

- Pull over to the side right now

and see if any of these people know where it is.

- That's Jon and Kelly.

Go, don't ask. Go, turn right.

- Chip and Dales, I think they know where it is.

- All right, follow them.

- You can go fast, honey, go.

Lose 'em.

[dramatic music]

- Okay, I see it now.

- Drive yourselves to the marked parking lot

at the Gorges Du Blavet.

- In between La Mote and Bagnols en Foret.

- What's the name of the place?

- Gorges Du Blavet.

- You wanna go to the information center over here?

- That's what I was suggesting.

- Okay, I don't know how to get over there.

- Follow the signs towards it.

- These stairs have [censored] signs.

This is ridiculous.

This is not like America, Jack.

- Do you want me to drive?

I think it'd be better for us if I drove

because I drove a bunch last night.

- What's the difference?

You've seen how bad I am with the frickin map.

- Go straight, babe.

There's my contribution of the day.

Ha, ha, ha.

- The Supremes are right in front of us.

- Hi!

- Uh-oh, we've got other teams.

- We got Viper and Goose.

- Oh, it's them, David and Jeff.

- We're going to the Gorges Du Blavet.

Do you speak English?

If we spoke a little french, it'd be no problem.

- There's a police station right there.

Let's go ask them.

- It's just one wrong move, one mistake.

And that's it.

- Drive yourselves to the marked parking lot

at the Gorges Du Blavet.

Is it up there?

I guess we park right here.

- But we have to park in the marked parking lot!

- That's it right there, the marked lot.

- He was so adamant about it

that I just trusted his instinct.

- You see what I'm saying?

- Okay?

- Park your car in the flagged parking lot.

- See the banner?

Yellow and orange.

We did it, bro.

- That's it, that's gotta be it.

- Somebody beat us.

It's the Goats.

- There's a team behind us.

This way.

- Okay, come on.

- Park in the marked parking lot.

- Then walk the path.

- Then walk the path.

- To where?

- That's not a parking lot! - To what?

- To your next route marker.

- I happened to decide that is the path,

that's what we need to do. We need to walk down this path.

- Why don't we just loop around?

Is there no way to loop around?

- There's no way to loop around

because there's a big, friggin metal bar in the middle.

Can't you see it?

Why do you keep asking me to make a U-turn?

I can't, it's physically impossible.

[dramatic music]

- Let's just hope that we see the box.

- Detour.

- A Detour is a choice between tasks.

Each with its own pros and cons.

In this Detour, teams need to choose

between ropes and slopes.

In ropes, teams repel feet down

the side of these cliffs to a route marker below.

It's a scary task, but teams can finish fast.

In slopes, teams take a long, sloping trail

to the same route marker below.

There's nothing scary about the task,

but the walk will be slow going.

- Let's do ropes.

- We're taking ropes.

- Ropes.

- Definitely ropes.

- For sure.

- I was a little nervous when he said, "Start your descent."

I knew, we're still in a race.

I need to get to the bottom as quick as I can.

[dramatic music]

- Oh my god. - Come on, don't look down.

Just come on.

It was scary. You're relying on just a rope,

but it's like, you're just leaving me here?

I'm gonna hang on?

I was scared, I was nervous.

- All right, Dave, let it slide, buddy. Long hops.

- Okay, man.

- Let's go, David!

Our plan was awesome.

Just to go down the face of that cliff

with nothing but a rope and a harness.

- Woo.

- Take a little.

- Come on, Al!

Your weight will pull you down!

- Guys, shut up.

- You got it, Al.

Good job, Al, keep it coming, buddy.

See. - I wanna do it again, man.

I just got warmed up.

- Get down as fast as possible.

If you look down, that's the fear right there.

- Look at her.

- We gotta find the box, dude!

- Hey, do you see anything?

- No.

- This way, Jon, just.

- The flag's this way.

- No.

- Oh, sh**t.

Sorry, dude.

- [Narrator] Teams must now hike back to their cars

and drive miles to this place.

The Chateau Des Alpilles.

This year old mansion is the pit stop

for this leg of the race.

The last team to check-in here, will be eliminated.

- Let's go this way, follow the flags.

Behind you, go.

Go!

- Good luck, guys.

- Good luck, guys. - Good luck!

What's it say?

The last team will be eliminated.

Come on, come on!

- I don't see it.

Did you find anything?

- No!

- We've been traveling this way for two miles now.

- What do you wanna do? Just say it, you wanna go back up?

- No! I don't wanna run back up.

- We pick ropes.

- We're gonna do ropes.

- Just say what's in your gut.

Just do it, just say what's in your gut.

- I don't know!

- Let's go back up.

Let's not waste anymore time.

[ominous music]

[dramatic music]

- Chuck!

What's taking so long?

[ominous music]

- Let's go back up.

Let's go back up, let's not waste any more time.

Let's go back.

- And we kept going deeper and deeper into the woods

and we finally said this is wrong.

The lesson I've learned is stop,

consult with Reichen because his gut instinct

is usually right.

- Gorges is above that.

Oh yeah, we're far.

I'm thinking that since we're behind

and everyone else is flying to the next route info

and we should do the Fast Forward.

- Well, let's do it.

- There's only one Fast Forward on each leg of the race.

The first team that finds it can skip all tasks

and go directly to the pit stop.

However, once a team uses the Fast Forward,

that team can never use another one

for the rest of the race.

So teams need to decide

when it's most advantageous to go for it.

In this Fast Forward, teams must find this museum.

Then they must arrange these puzzle pieces

to form one large picture of the pit stop.

The Chateau Des Alpilles.

- We're behind right now, I think it's worth it.

- All right, well let's try for it then.

I do not wanna be eliminated.

- Lord, we come to you asking you

just to watch over us and keep us safe.

In Jesus name we pray, amen.

- Amen.

- When Sheree and I walked up

and seen this huge cliff, we both were nervous.

- Down.

Up.

Okay. Woo.

That was so cool, I'm glad we got to do that.

Don't be scared, girl!

- Even though I walk through the valley

of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil.

- Let's pass.

- We ran past the Clowns and then we were

the first out of the Detour.

- All right!

- They're already done.

- What? They've got it?

So it's back there, dude.

Let's go, David!

The clue box on the trail below.

Dude, we're all the way back there.

- See the sign, green sign?

Go, go, go! - Yeah.

- That's where we're going.

- This is it?

- It's around here somewhere.

- There it is.

- Oh my!

- Oh my god.

- Anything that looks like the top.

The Fast Forward said we had to put a puzzle together

of this Chateau.

- How do we make a picture

of something we've never seen before?

- All right, woo!

- Let's go, David!

The clue box.

- There it is, ha, ha!

- Follow the flags and areas up the trail to your car.

Drive yourself to the next pit stop.

- Going in the last team to check-in will be eliminated.

- We've got one more.

Thank, thank you!

[chuckling]

Congratulations, you've won yourself a Fast Forward.

Drive yourself to the next pit stop.

- [Narrator] Having won the Fast Forward,

Tian and Jaree can now go directly to the pit stop,

the Chateau Des Alpilles.

- We gotta run.

Come on, babe!

- What do you wanna do? - Repel it is.

Oh, this is insane, Steve.

- It was called ropes,

but it was, throw the whales off the top of the cliff.

Come on, babe!

Just let yourself down, it's easy.

- I'm hanging on this little quarter inch nylon rope

that I wouldn't use to bind up a turkey at Thanksgiving.

- It'll hold ya, man.

It held me.

- There it is, obviously.

Detour, we're doing foot repel.

And I just pull this with me?

I just did it as fast as I could

and got to the bottom.

As fast as you can, that's great.

- My knee is right back to where it was a week ago.

- This way.

- God. - Don't hurt yourself.

- After the Detour, the only thing I could think of

was to just go as fast as we can

and we might be able to beat a couple teams.

[cracking branches]

- Okay, turn right.

That's where we go.

- Let's go, babe.

Well, it's the picture.

- Here we are.

- Welcome to Saint Remy de Provence.

- Hello. - Thank you.

- Tian and Jaree.

You're team number one.

- Yeah?

- Oh my god. - Yeah.

- The hotel Chateau Des Alpilles?

- La, la.

La, la.

- La? - Okay.

- This doesn't look right.

Maybe the French are idiots.

- A real map.

- That's Jon and Al right there.

- Go, go, go.

Follow them.

- Bro, bro! - That is some wind!

- Ah! - Woo!

[heavy breathing]

- Millie and Chuck, Jon and Al.

You're teams number two.

[contestants cheering]

- What do you think, Jeff?

- I don't know. - No?

- I really don't know where we're staying.

- Monica and Sheree. - Uh-huh?

- You're team number four.

- Woo!

- Two locals told us the wrong way to the Chateau.

- There's about a half hour there that we lost.

And that's all the other teams needed.

- Reichen and Chip.

You're team number five.

- Whew.

- Good.

- You're gonna go this way to the circle,

then make the right and then go.

- David and Jeff, you're team number six.

- Good job, dude.

- Go to the right, Jon, go right!

Go to the right, go to the right!

- Turn to the right after the church.

- Okay.

[dramatic music]

- Kelly and Jon.

You're team number seven.

- Eh!

- How ya doin'?

- How ya doin'?

- Welcome to Saint Remy de Provence.

- Steve and Dave.

- Yeah, man.

- You're team number eight!

- All right.

[chuckling]

We're...

- The luck holds through.

- We were hoping.

- Come on, Dad.

My dad is still entirely my hero.

I always looked up to him growing up.

But now I see my dad in the present tense

and he's an outstanding guy.

- Good job.

- Whew.

- He's definitely starting to look at me

in a different way, I can tell.

He treats me with a little bit more respect.

Come on. - I came here with the point

of not controlling and letting him take the lead

because he was here to show me something,

that he was a leader.

I think that means he's a better man.

[triumphant music]

- Steve and Josh.

You're the last team to arrive.

Sorry to tell you, you've both

been eliminated from the race.

- He's a good kid.

- He got us through a lot. - There's my boy.

- The race was outstanding.

It changes who you are.

Because you look at things a little differently.

And you look at your partner differently, for sure.

I think overall we came out ahead.

- Yeah.

- Yeah. - Yeah.

- I would have liked to have gone further,

but I got what I wanted out of this.

- I always had what I wanted.

[light music]

- [Narrator] Stay tuned for scenes

from our next episode.

[dramatic music]

On the next episode of "The Amazing Race."

In the canals of Amsterdam, tensions boil over.

- Point to me right now where we are.

- Well, let me take it!

- Teams fall into a heap of trouble.

- Whoa!

[gasping]

- Oh my god.

- [Narrator] And a failure to communicate

could lead to elimination.

- You are deliberately sabotaging us.

[whooshing]

[light piano music]

[dramatic music]
