there was lots to do? ♪

I was... wait a second?

[sniffs] What's that smell?

[sniffs]

Ha! It's you!

Oh.

You smell all clean and soapy!

Or maybe you smell
this good all the time.

Well,
you came on a really good day.

Today is my day to volunteer!
That's right! Volunteer.

When you volunteer, you're
helping folks in your community.

There are all kinds of
ways to volunteering.

For example,
some folks, like me,

join the volunteer
fire department!

[fire track alarms]

Oh, hey there.

But there are ways you can
volunteer in your community.

For example, for your school,
you can collect canned food...

Or you can collect toys for
kids who don't have any...

Or,
you could clean up your park!

[whooshing sound]

Yeah, but whatever
you do to volunteer,

you'll gain to know folks and
places in your community better

and the best part...

It makes them and
you feel really great!

First I'm going to go help Etta
and Otto out at the Library!

Then I'm going to
swing by the Fire

House and do a shift over there!

But first, I'm gonna pack
myself a little sack lunch.

Volunteering can work
up quite an appetite

[smacks lips together]

Got some Corn fritters,

a slice of triple berry pie
and some clammy cola.

[cheering]

-All right!
-Ready for some

extreme skateboarding action,
Pop?

You know it,
Pip. I'm Otterly ready!

[giggles]

Get it? Utterly... Otterly...

Yeah. I get it. But... um,

-are you sure you're ready?
-Um... pretty sure...

Pop?...Isn't there
something you're forgetting...

you know,
we're skateboarding today.

Oh! Right! My board! [laughs]

Thanks, Pip. That
could've been embarrassing.

Oh, that was a close one,
huh? Oh, where'd you leave it?

I'm not sure...

Oh, hey,
let's leave my board here,

and I'll help you find yours.

-Why thank you, Pip.
-Oh, no, thank you, Pop.

-No, thank you Pip!
-No, thank you, Pop!

Yessiree. Nothing
like a sack lunch

when you're out voluntee...

Eeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrr!

[thud]

[cracking sound]

-Bear? Bear? Oh, Beeeeear?
-O-over here, Doc.

[laughs]

What're you doing on the floor.
That's no way to volunteer!

Well, I... uh... took
a little spill, Doc.

Oh... a spill! I'm sorry,
Bear! Are ya alright?

Well, except...

ooh, ooh,

my foot feels funny.

Uh-oh...

it's swollen, Bear. Come on,
let me help you up.

Okay.

Careful, now. Yep, you've sure
enough sprained your toe, Bear.

Sprained it good.

I'm afraid you're going
to have to keep it elevated

and stay off of it all day. No
volunteering for you today.

-Aw...
-Bear.

Okay, Doc. That is pretty
disappointing though.

I'm sorry, Bear!

I must take full
responsibility for your toe!

I'm the one who left
the skateboard out!

Oh woe is me!

I cannot allow you to
take the full blame, Pip.

-Huh?
-If I hadn't forgotten

my skateboard, this never
would have happened...

-No, Pop, please, it was me...
-It was me!

[gasps]

It was us! Oh,
we're sorry, Bear!

That's okay,
guys. Accidents happen.

It's nobody's fault really .

Actually, I should've
been looking where I was going.

-Well, that is true.
-You must be careful.

I was really looking
forward to volunteering.

I wish we could do
something to help, Bear.

-If only there was something.
-Treelo want to help, too.

-What a tree-mendous idea!
-Huh?

Well, I think it's
terrific of you guys

to volunteer to do
Bear's volunteer work.

Huh?

-Did we say that?
I'm not sure.

You could take Bear's place!

Pip, Pop, and Tutter,
you could go over to the library

and help out Etta and Otto...

-Huh?
-Us?

And, uh... Ojo and Treelo,

you could go and visit
down at the fire house!

-Really?/
-Fire House!

What do you think Bear?

Well, uh... it's up to you guys,
really.

Well... we'd like to help out,
but

we can't really do all the
things you can, can we Bear?

Yeah. We're just little. And
you're so big, Bear, so big!

Well, that's true. But

you guys are such a big
help to me around the house

and volunteering is so much fun.

I bet you have a lot more
to offer than you think.

-Yeah, maybe that's true.
-We are good helpers.

-I'm especially good
-We could give it a try...

Well, then it's settled!

Come on, everybody.

-Bye, Bear!

[sighs]

I can still eat.

Hi Otto! Hi Etta!

[Chatters]

-Why hello every one!
-What can we do for you?

Bear? Well now as it turns out,

Bear won't be able
to make it today.

Yeah. He was doing some
extreme skateboarding...

Only he didn't
know he was doing it.

Oh dear. Will he be...

Okay? Oh, just a toe
injury. He'll be fine,

as long as he stays
off of it. Anyway,

these little folks have, well,

volunteered to
volunteer in Bear's place.

-Well that's just fine!
-Wonderful.

Great, great! Now,
Ojo and Treelo,

you come with me and I'll take
you over to the firehouse.

-Fire House!
-Yes, yes! Have fun you three!

Okay, Doctor Hogg.

What can we do
Grandma and Grandpa?

Well,
we were planning on getting Bear

to put some books
up on the shelves.

Bear's so big,
well, uh... he has

no trouble at all
reaching way up there...

Whoa! That's really high.

And,
Bear also helps us carry these

big heavy cartons of
new books to the back.

Whoo boy! These
do look big and heavy.

Well, then there's story time...

Story time? What's that?

Well, uh... every week we have
a group of young 'uns come in

and we have a
story read to them.

Well today it's gonna be a

lovely little group
of furry bunnies.

-[laughs]
-Oh, furry bunnies!

Aww,
cute! We like reading stories!

Yeah. We could do that!

Well alright then!

Yeah,
this is gonna be so much fun!

[munching] [snoring]

-Howdy, there Jack.
-Hey Jack!

Where's the fire,
where's the fire?...oh.

-Firetruck!
-Oh, yeah look!

Oh, yeah, hey,
everybody. Where's Bear?

Oh, Bear couldn't make it today,
sprained his big toe.

Oh, that's too...

Bad? Oh don't worry,
he'll be fine...

as long as he
stays off of it. But...

it just so happens
I have a couple

of world class
volunteers right here.

Ojo, Treelo would
you be willing to help?

-Sure Jack.
-Fire truck.

Great! We'll see ya two, later.

-Bye, Doc.
-Bye, Doc.

Um, uh... so, Jack. Oh,
what can we do for you?

Firetruck!

You wanna help
with ol' Bessie here?

-Yeah, yeah! Sure, Jack!
-Ol' Bessie! Firetruck!

Well, Bear and I were going
to change Bessie's tires.

Uh?

-Change tires?
-How you change tires?

How do you change a tire? Oh,
that's a good question.

Umm...

I don't know. On
second thought...

maybe we should do
that another time, huh?

Oh, poor Bessie!

[coughs]

Oh, oh, oh.

[coughs]

Seems like Bessie
is... oh...[brushes

-...pretty dirty, huh?
-Bessie needs a bath!

[laughs]

-Bessie needs a bath?
-Uh-huh.

[gasps]

We could do that!

Oh, alright,
great! Come right this way.

I know I have a hose,
here somewhere.

Bessie gets a bath.

[music plays]

[sighs]

Oh, hi there!

I'm a little bored with
everyone gone and all.

I wonder if my toe
is feeling any better.

Ahoooch. No,
it's not, no it's not.

[exhales]

Maybe I should stay off of it,
like Doc said.

But it's awfully
quiet around here.

[shadow laughs]

Did you hear that?

[shadow laughs]

That sounds like Shadow!

Maybe if we sing our song...
she'll appear. Close by.

Ready?

Oh...

is Shadow? ♪

♪ Where can Shadow be? ♪

Shadow!

[shadow laughs]

Oh, Shadow, there you are!

Hello Bear! Oh,
dear! What happened to your toe?

I had a little mishap
with a skateboard.

It'll be okay,
as long as I stay off it.

Oh, well, that's good. You
must be terribly bored, though.

Well, a little.

Well, how about a nice
story to brighten your day?

Oh, I'd love one!

Well, I volunteer to tell
you one, Bear. Just watch.

♪ -The volunteer was sincere ♪
-I love to volunteer.

♪ When he saved
the cat on the chandelier ♪

I'm always sincere about
chandeliers... and cats!

♪ The volunteer a car did steer♪

♪ To bring a hot lunch
to the old musketeer ♪

Oh thank you. Oh hot
lunch! Vichyssoise!

I've made it myself.

♪ The volunteer
received a cheer ♪

Hip-hip-hooray! Hip-hip-hooray!

♪ When he fixed the hole ♪

Bam-bam-bam-bam-bam-bammy!
A-ha I fixed it!

♪ -For the gondolier
-Oh, sole mio! ♪

Grazie! Now my boat
she's not gonna sink!

♪ The volunteer on the frontier
dropped off some books ♪

It's... uh... uh... oh,
boy. Oh these are heavy.

♪ For the pioneer ♪

Oh that's good. Now I can
catch up on my romance novels!

Whoo-hoo! You
ever read this one?!!

♪ But the volunteer
was man of the year ♪

Here's your trophy son.

♪ When he went to the library ♪

-Hoo-ha-ha-hoo
♪ -To puppeteer ♪

So listen now and listen clear
if you want to do some good,

just volunteer!

Ha ha ha ha!

Whoa! That was a
wonderful story, Shadow!

I hope my little volunteers
are doing as well as those.

Oh, knowing them, Bear, I'm
sure they're doing even better!

Oh well... I've got to fly,

but if you need another story,
just try and catch me!

[laughs]

[sighs]

I wonder how my little
volunteers are doing right now.

I bet they're having
a time of their lives.

I'm having trouble holding

Hey Tutter! Look what we found!

"Little Bunnies on the Glen!"

Bear used to read this
book to us all the time

when we were little Otters.

G-g-guys, the bunnies!
They're getting jumpy!

-Huh?
-Oh yeah!

boing-boing

Tutter... why don't you start.

Me... uh... okay... okay

[stiffly] Once a-pon a time...

um... there was...

-No, Tutter...
-Do that funny, fancy voice

-That Bear does...
-And we'll do the sound effects!

Oh... yeah! Okay, okay

[grandly] Once a-pon a time...

long ago... and in a glen

very far from here... there
lived a kingdom of bunnies...

Whoo...

-Boing... Boing... Boing...
-Boing... Boing... Boing...

Hey, guys,
I think it's working...

Ahem! Anyway...

in this kingdom in the glen,

there was a little
bunny-named Glen.

-Good.
-Strangely enough...

[laughs]

And the momma rabbit and
daddy rabbit told their bunnies:

We couldn't have
done it without you!

Thanks for hopping,
I mean, helping!

[laughs] The end!

[cheering]

Hey! They like us! They really,
really like us!

-Yeah!
-Good story! More! More!

I guess we have
to do another one!

More! More! More!

Quick! Find another story, guys!

Okay... Jack,
you're on the hose...

-Check!
-Jeremiah, you've got the wax...

-Uh... check!
-And Treelo,

you and I are on the sponge!

Check. Check. Check.

Whoa, Ojo,
you sure are good at this!

Oh... thanks, Jack.

I guess it comes from
cleaning up with Bear.

He says we're
really good helpers.

I'll say...

-Okay, then, let's...
-Clean up the truck!

[vocalize]

windshield hose down the hood ♪

♪ Scrub the doors
and sweep the floors ♪

♪ -And clean the engine good.
-Yeah! ♪

squeeze the sponges ♪

♪ We can get it done ♪

♪ Who could guess this dirty
mess could be a lot of fun? ♪

♪ Everybody clean it up! ♪

♪ Clean up the truck, now! ♪

♪ Wax wax wax the bumper
of this mean machine ♪

♪ Firetruck! ♪

♪ Make the hoses
smell like roses ♪

♪ -Get em good and clean!
-Woo! ♪

tires see the hubcaps shine ♪

♪ Take a sponge,
wipe off the grunge, ♪

♪ And bessie's lookin' fine!! ♪

♪ -Everybody
-Everybody ♪

♪ Clean it up!
Clean up the truck! ♪

♪ -Everybody
-Everybody ♪

♪ Our firetruck's
name is bessie ♪

♪ This morning
she was so messy ♪

♪ -Now everybody is cheerin'
-Woohoo ♪

♪ We all came here 'n
started volunteerin' ♪

Clean up the truck, now! ♪

♪ -Everybody

[bell ringing]

Yeah,
we cleaned up Bessie Firetruck!

Uh... over here kids.

Okay smile.

[camera flashes]

Okay, got it!

[cheering]

OJO:
And then, they let us sit in it,

and flash the lights,
and ding the bell too!

Wow! This is what I
call one shiny firetruck!

Yeah, oh, look at how
shiny that bumper is.

I did that part myself.

Whoa, nice job you two!

-Just terrific!
-Yeah, it was nothing

Oh, and Jack made us:

'Honorary Volunteers of Woodland
Valley Company Number One!

Whoa.

And Bear,

is it okay if we go to
the library next week,

for story time?

There's a bunch
of little bunnies

that are depending on us.

Yeah, it felt so good
to make them feel good.

Oh, Bear... we almost
forgot... how's your toe?

Oh, well, now, now,
let the doctor decide...

let's see, shall we?

[humming]

Well what do you think,
Bear? Wanna give it a try?

Okay... uh...

Careful, Bear!

Hey! It's all better.

Yaaaaay!

Just in time to help all
my little volunteers to bed.

-Oh, okay, Bear.
-Thanks Doc.

-Certainly, certainly.
-Come on, everybody.

-Thanks, Doc.

What a wonderful day, we've had.

You know, I bet Luna would
want to hear all about it.

Ah, there she is! Hello, Luna!

Bear. How are you tonight?

Better than I was earlier.
I had sprained my toe.

Oh, ouch. I would
imagine that would hurt.

Although I wouldn't know,
after all I am the moon.

[chuckles]

But, I am glad you're
feeling better, Bear.

So, what went on
in your valley today?

Well, Luna... the g*ng
had to replace me in

my "volunteering duties" at
the Library and the Fire House.

Oh, what a wonderful
experience for them.

You know,
from up here looking down,

it seems nothing
brings people together

more than the offer
of a helping hand.

Hmmm... true

and they were all so
proud of themselves.

But not half as proud
as I was of them!

[sighs]

I only wish I
could've been there.

Well... in a way I
think you were, Bear.

Really? What do you mean?

It sounds to me as if your
example inspired them

to do the things they did!

Wow. Ha,

I never thought of it that way,
Luna. Maybe you're right.

I'm sure of it, Bear. But

I'd better go, now.

The world needs my
light tonight, you know.

Okay, Luna, but will you sing
the goodbye song with me first?

I'd love to, Bear.
