Because you smell like
you've been [sniffing]

playing in the grass.

I want to show you something

and it's in the kitchen.

[Ojo and Tutter chattering]

Bear, what is all this stuff?

this is
what I wanted to show you!

Actually, this stuff isn't mine!

It's Doc Hogg's!

What,
is he moving in or something?

No, no, no, Tutter.

You see, Doc Hogg is getting
his office painted,

so he asked me to look
after his stuff

so paint
won't get on it or anything.

Ohhhhhhh!
What's this thing, Bear?

Ah! This is the thing I'm most
excited about showing you!

This is Doc Hogg's computer!

Ooooooh.

A computer.

Wow! Can you believe it?

Doc Hogg's got a computer!

Huh! What next? [chuckles]

But Bear,
there's just one thing.

Yes?

What is a computer?

Yeah,
I'd like to know that one, too.

Oh, well! Let's see.

A computer is a machine
that works with sounds

and numbers and pictures
and words

and they're
actually quite amazing!

Well, can it play catch?

Well, no...

-Can it make cheese...
-Or make pillow castles?

Oh! Is it alive, Bear?

Well, no, no and no.

You see,
computers help us do things.

But they're not alive
like you and me.

They can't work by themselves.

They can only work when
you make them work.

-Hm.
-Ah!

Hey, why don't we turn
it on and give it a try.

Huh, turn it on?

Oh, yeah, let's tum it
on and see what it does.

Um, by the way.

If you ever need to do or see

something that needs
to be plugged in,

why don't you get a grown up

to plug it in for you
and turn it on.

-Okay?
-Hm.

Now, let's see what this can do?

-Yeah, yeah.
-Okay.

COMPUTER: I am the Hogulak 2000.

-It talks.

So, wanna give it a try?

Uh, us?

I don't know, Bear.

Maybe we'll just watch you.
[chuckles]

Well, why not?

Well, I'm afraid I might
do something wrong, Bear.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. It looks
really hard to use; and, well,

we might mess it
up or something.

-Good point.
-Yeah, yeah.

Come on.
But Doc said we could use it.

And besides, computers really
aren't hard to use at all.

So, won't give it a try?

Um, well...

Okay, Bear. I'll try.

-How do I do it?
-Yeah.

First you grab the mouse...

-Oh.
-What!

[grunt]

-Got him!
-Hey!

Why does she have to grab me?

Oh, no, no, no. Ojo,
you don't have to grab Tutter.

You can put him down.

-Oh, sorry.
-[gasps]

-That's okay, Ojo.
-I'm sorry.

I should have told you.
See this thing?

Yeah?

This is also called a mouse.

Hey, yeah! It does kind
of look like a mouse.

with a really long tail!

[chuckles]

You use the mouse
with the computer.

Now, see how I move the mouse?

Yeah.

See how the arrow on the screen
is moving at the same time.

Oh, yeah! I see that.

So, you use the arrow
to point it

to where you want to go

and then you push the
button on the mouse

and something will happen.

It's called clicking.

-Oh!
-Clicking.

-Ha, ha.
-Hey, what's that, Bear?

Hmmm.

It says, "Animals."

Ah! Oooh.

That sounds
like a good one, doesn't it?

-Yeah! Yeah! Yeah!
-I want to click on that.

-Yeah!
-Go ahead, Ojo. Click away!

Okay.

Whoa! Look at that!

It's a giant mouse!

Um... Actually,
Tutter, I think it's a kangaroo.

Oh. Right! Kangaroo.
I knew that.

Hey,
can we see some more animals?

Oh sure, Tutter.
Go ahead and click!

-It's fun!
-Oh, okay.

Yeah. Just point the arrow
at the bottom of the picture

and click on it
and it shows you the next one.

-Hm.
-[click]

Hey!
Look at that. It's a lizard.

Wow! That's so cool, Bear!

You just click with this er

mouse, and something
neat happens!

-Yeah.
-Wow.

Well, I'll let you guys

This is so great!

-Okay.

[chuckles]

Tutter and Ojo figured out
that computers are interactive.

Hey!

Interactive.

Interactive.

Wow, that's a big word.

In-ter­ac-tive.

But we interact every day.

Mmmm.

When you say or do something,

and someone or something

says
or does something back to you,

that's interactive.

For example,

when you throw a ball

and someone catches it
and throws it back,

that's interactive.

Or... when you give your grandma
a flower

and she smiles...

That's interactive!

And, well, let's see,

what else is interactive?

Hey, I know!

Something I love to do
is very interactive!

Dancing!

When you dance with someone,
you're interacting!

How about I teach you
the Bear Cha-Cha-Cha?

Would you like to learn
and dance with me?

Great! Stand up!

It's not hard,
and I'll show you how to do it!

Watch me and then you do it.

Now,
first you stamp your feet...

[stamping]

Stamp them again.

[stamping]

That's great!
Now throw your head back!

[whooshing sound]

And stamp your feet again!

[stamping]

One more time! [stamping]

Now, spread your legs,
and wiggle them!

Put them together.

And stamp your feet again...

[stamping]

One more time!

Now wiggle and spin.

[whistling]

And Bears love a big finish,
so I want you to

pose and say Cha
Cha Cha with me.

Okay? Now you try!

Stamp your feet and pose!

Start to twitch ♪

♪ My lips go la la la la la la ♪

♪ And my arms and legs
get the itch ♪

Um, I like to play video games

and like go outside and play
sports with my friends.

I play with Cooper
and Cooper plays with me.

I do know how to play some
games on the computer.

I don't really do
emailing that much.

I just ask my mom to go
on the website

and just look around and stuff.

There's this little mailbox,
er, with the letter

and you click on it
and it'll have a screen

and you type what you
want to tell your friends.

Type my password,
type a letter, then send.

And then,
when you send it, it'll say

you have now sent your mail
or your mail has been sent

and then it gets to them quick.

Wow,
you guys really know how to...

Come on, Ojo, Come on!

Okay! But I was just gonna
get out this screen here.

Yeah,
but just let us go already.

-Come on!
-Alright.

Hey, where are you two
going in such a hurry?

Well, we just saw
this big turtle

that reminded us of Jeremiah.

Yeah, yeah. So we thought
we'd go and visit Jeremiah.

Oh, well, okay.

Oh well, Ojo and Tutter told us

and how interactive it is.

keep a bunch of his stuff,

including his computer!

very interesting and fun!

I showed Ojo and Tutter
how to use it, and then,

the computer gave us
a puzzle to solve!

Oh!

And did you figure
out the answer?

We all did it together.

Computers can be wonderful
and interesting things,

but you know, Bear,

nothing quite matches
interacting with the world,

or having a conversation
with a friend, or

going for a walk in the woods.
