- Ah, let's see
what we have today.

- It could be a new video game
with ultra power controls.

- And super sound explosions!

- I don't think so.

- Maybe it's a motocross
bike with spiked wheels!

- Or a mini music player

that we can load
with a million tunes.

- No way.

- Well, now.

Is this guessing game closed

or can anyone play?

- Oh, it's not a game grandpa.

- Mom called and said
she's coming home

with a brand new devon rex.

- You don't say.

And now, just what
is a devon rex?

- We don't know!

- They're trying to
guess what it is.

- Power drill!

- Ice cream maker!

- I told them we should
just call mom's cell phone

and find out.

- What?

And stop this grand
guessing game?

Aww, little exercising
of the imagination

is good for the brain.

Reminds me of a time

when some of me
friends back in Ireland

had the same kind of fun.

- Your mom got a devon rex too?

- No.

But my friend Ferny
did get a pet once.

You see, Ferny had
a way with animals.

He loved them all, so he did.

But oddly enough, he had
never had a pet of his own.

[laughing]

[laughs]

[frog croaks]

That is until one day.

- Por favor papa,

please.

- Do you think you're ready
to have a pet Fernando?

- Oh, si papa!

I take really good care of him.

Con mucho amor.

I feed him a lot and make
sure he has lots of water

all the time.

You'll see.

[door squeaks]

- Ahoy there land lovers!

- Oh Captain Cumara.

- Buenos dias Capitan!

- Would that be me anchor
you have hanging there

Don Toro?

- Si, I have just finished it.

- A fine sea worthy
thing she is.

- Muchas gracias.

- So, may I get one papa?

Quiero no papa, please?

- Just what is it
you're longing for?

The way a sailor
longs for the sea

young Ferny.

- I really want a
pet of me very own

Captain Cumara.

I take good care of it everyday.

Even Saturday.

Oh papa, may I get him?

Por favor?

- You know mijo,

taking care of a pet is a
very big responsibility.

But, I think you're ready.

- Oh!

Gracias papa!

Thank you, thank you!

Oh thank you!

- Well now, if it's
a pet you want,

I know just the one.

You two would go together
like soda bread and marmalade.

[gasps]

Come by me shack sometime
tomorrow afternoon

to pick him up Ferny.

He'll be waiting there for you.

- Yes sir Captain Cumara.

I'll be there, I will.

Goodbye!

Thank you!

Ooooh!

- [Grandpa Piggley]
The next morning,

Ferny invited Dannan and
me to come along with him

to pick up his brand new pet.

It was then, Ferny
realized he had no idea

what kind of pet he
was going to get.

So, it made getting
there quickly

all that much more important.

And three of us
could hardly wait

to find out what Ferny's
new pet was going to be.

[spits]

- When I said I liked the beach,

I didn't mean I
liked it on my face.

- Ahoy matey!

Captain Cumara!

- Hello Captain!

- Captain!

Hello!

I'm here to pick up me pet sir!

- Maybe it'll be a dog Ferny.

- Or it could be
a cat, you know.

- I'll bet it's a parrot!

Just like the kind
that pirates have!

- Oh, do you really think so?

- Eh, Ferny,

are you sure it was today

that you are supposed
to pick up your pet?

- Oh yes.

The captain said,

"come by me shack sometime
tomorrow afternoon,

"and he'll be there
waiting for ya."

- A ha, afternoon?

Afternoon?

Ferny, it won't be noon
for another hour at least.

- An hour?

- Janey Mack!

I can't wait that long
to find out what it is!

- Sure you can Ferny.

We'll all just sit down
here and wait together.

- I can't stand it!

I have to know what kind
of a pet he's bringing me

right now!

- Aw, whatever kind it is,

I'm sure it'll be great Ferny.

- Captain Cumara travels
all over the world.

He knows where to get
the best of everything!

- That's right!

And he's a fine fisherman.

Maybe he'll bring you
back a fish for a pet.

- Oh, I'd love to have
my very own fishy.

A nice little gold fishy.

- Oh, he won't be just no
ordinary little gold fish Ferny.

- But, I like ordinary goldfish.

- Captain Cumara's
probably found you a

one of a kind, bigger
than life goldfish.

So bright and shiny,

that it gleams in
the sun like magic.

- Oh.

- With a mighty fin on its back,

and a tail as big
as a giant merman.

The greatest goldfish
in the ocean!

- Fishy!

Oh fishy!

[festive music]

[ballroom music]

[laughs]

I'm going to love
having a pet goldfish.

- Well, now that we know
what you're getting,

let's all sit down
and wait until noon

for the fish to arrive.

- Right.

- Absolutely!

- Is it noon yet?

- No Ferny, not yet.

- I don't know if I can wait

much longer Dannan.

- Of course you can.

And it'll all be worth it
when the captain brings ya

your goldfish!

- You know Ferny,

we could be wrong about
this goldfish thing.

The captain sails all
over the world you know?

He might be bringing you
some strange creature

that he found at
some far away place.

- Oh.

I hope it's not too strange.

- Maybe something like
this mouse he was carving.

- He's not so strange.

He's just a cute little mouse.

- Well, you see.

All mice are cute.

But not all of them
are little you know?

- Do you think me pet

might be a cute big mouse?

- It could be!

The ones from far away
places usually are.

- What, what, what.

- It's a well known fact Dannan.

- Don't you think it
might be this big?

- Bigger.

- This big?

- Bigger.

- This big?

- Hmm.

That's about the
size of the babies.

- Janey Mack!

Mousy!

Oh Mousy!

Ah Piggley,

what do you think
a giant mouse eats?

- [Piggley] Don't
worry about that Ferny.

A giant mouse eats everything!

That's how it grows so big!

[squeaks]

[squeaks]

- Oh.

[squeaks]

[sniffs]

[screaming]

[screams]

[screaming]

[screaming]

I think I'd rather
have a goldfish.

- Goldfish are nice.

- They certainly are.

- You know, I really don't
understand these kids.

- Why not just--

- Why would anyone
want a cold, wet,

slimey, disgusting
fish for a pet?

- That's why--
- Why don't they get

a soft and warm, and fluffy,

and glamorous sheep.

S-H-E-E-P

sheep.

I mean, let's face it.

We're adorable.

We have gorgeous eyes,

amazing hair

and not to mention
we're extremely humble.

- [Ferny] Do you
see the captain yet?

- No.

- [Ferny] How 'bout now?

- No.

- How 'bout now?
- And still no!

I'm sorry Ferny,

but watching for Captain Cumara

won't make him get
here any faster.

- How 'bout if we
play a fun game?

Time always flies when
you're having fun.

- Great idea Piggley!

We can play hide and seek!

- You stand here
and count to 10.

While Dannan and I go and hide.

- Okay then.

One, two, three, four

- Forget about our game boys!

I think I know what kind of pet

Captain Cumara's really
bringing home to Ferny!

- You do?

What is it Dannan, what?

- I'll give you a hint!

- Ugh, bananas?

- Right, and who eats bananas?

- I do?

- And who else?

- I do as well.

- And so do monkeys?

- Jakers!

I think you're onto
something there Dannan.

Captain Cumara is
bringing Ferny a monkey.

[imitating a monkey]

- A monkey?

- With all these bananas,

he might be bringing a
whole lot of monkeys!

- Brilliant Dannan!

- Thank you Piggley.

- Congratulations Ferny.

You're about to be the owner
of a whole lot of monkeys.

- Janey

Oh, wait a minute.

Monkeys might be
fun to play with.

Monkeys!

Oh monkeys!

But papa told me
that having one pet

is a big responsibility.

I'm not sure I'm ready

- Aye, that it does.

- It is a dragon!

pretty good pet after all.

- Yes, but I'd still
rather have a dragon.

and knew he was the
one for you Ferny.

- I'm gonna call him Thor.

- Aw, okay.

Umm, I think its

a kind of desert,

- Cool!

- Alright!

- What do you think a
devon rex is grandpa?

- Well I'd have to say

that a devon rex is

a kitten with white
fur and brown patches

big ears and white whiskers.

- Wow grandpa.

How'd you come up with that?

- Because your mother has
just arrived with one.

- Oh!

A kitten.

- Can I hold him?

- He is so cute.

- Awesome
- Mega cool!

- That is mega cool.

But I still rather
have a dragon.
