I love the beach.

The ocean air, the sand...

Nature Cat: Bwack! But the water.

[burr]

But the water. Why does it always have to be water?

Daisy: Come on, Nature Cat.

We gotta finish this sand seahorse

before the waves wash it away.

Squeeks: Oh man! Noice.

Daisy: Quick! Let's take a picture.

g*ng: Cheeeeeeeeese!

Hal: And...there she goes.

Squeeks: Bye, bye, seahorse!

We barely knew ya, but we had some good times,

man, good times.

Daisy: Hey! Since the tide's coming in,

let's check out the tide pool

to see if any new visitors showed up.

Squeeks: Hello? Yes!

We love tide pools!

Nature Cat: Why, oh why is there always... water.

Yuck!

Daisy: Stick with me, Nature Cat.

We'll walk on the rocks and dry patches so you won't get wet.

Nature Cat: Wooah! Daisy: Whop, gotcha!

Nature Cat: Aww. Thanks, Daisy.

Daisy: You're welcome, Nature Cat.

Now come on!

g*ng: Ohh!

Squeeks: Look at the shell! I love shells!

Look at the mussels!

I love mussels!

Look at the Sea Star!

Hal: Ooh! Look at these hermit crabs.

Hal: Hi, hermit crabs. It's me, Hal!

I'd shake your hand but...heh.

Squeeks: I love hermit crabs!

Daisy: Man on man! Look at their shells.

Very unusual.

Nature Cat: How festive!

It looks like the shell has streamers!

Nature Cat: Huh?

Oh no! Oh dear!

This isn't happening!

Hal: You ok, Nature Cat?

Nature Cat: If being soaked and miserable is ok,

then yes, I'm ok.

Nature Cat: Well, hello there, little hermit crab.

I'm Nature Cat.

What's your name?

Bridget: I'm um uh... Bridget.

Daisy: Aww. What are you doing over here by yourself,

Bridget? Hal: Yeah.

Why aren't you wandering around

like those little crabbies over there?

Bridget: Well...

Nature Cat: Come on, Bridget.

You can tell us.

Bridget: Okay...

Bridget: I ended up in this tide pool earlier today

and things were going great!

I love this little spot.

Ya know there was plenty of food here...

Bridget: But then... an octopus att*cked me!

Bridget: I barely got away from its looong arms.

Bridget: Now I'm just waiting for the tide

to start to go out again.

The octopus may leave then.

It's pretty shallow around here at low tide.

Squeeks: Is the octopus still here?

Daisy: There it is!

Bridget: Ah! Don't let her see me!

Squeeks: Those other hermit crabs are walking around,

but the octopus isn't attacking them.

What gives?

Bridget: Nope. It only comes after me!

[nervously laughs]

Nature Cat: Huh. Why does that octopus

just have it in for you, Bridget?

Bridget: I don't know.

Nature Cat: Well, you can't live like this.

Afraid to wander around just to look for food!

Hal: No, you can't!

Nature Cat: So we have a plan!

Right, Hal?

Hal: Yeah! A plan! A plan it is!

And I always love how a plan comes together,

and I have one tiny question about this amazing plan...

What was the plan again?

Nature Cat: The plan is...

We protect Bridget by taking her to a place where

the octopus can't get her.

Wonderful, dry land!

Bridget: Wait! But-but- whoop!

Nature Cat: Tally hoooooo!

Nature Cat: Ahhh. Isn't this better?

Out of that wet water and here on the nice, not-wet sand?

Bridget: No! I'm a marine hermit crab.

I need to be in the water.

Nature Cat: Bridget! Bubbalah!

Why didn't you say so, even?

Bridget: I tried.

Daisy: Hm... We need another plan.

Squeeks: I gotcha, Bridget.

We're going back to that tide pool.

Squeeks: No one messes with Bridget

unless they want to mess with me!

Hi-yah!

Squeeks: Don't worry! I got you, Bridget!

Wu-oh! Hi-yah!

Squeeks: Whoaaa!

Squeeks: Why'd you take me out?

I almost had her!

Although she did look a LOT bigger when I was underwater.

But still...I almost had her!

Daisy: We have to think of a way to get that octopus to stop

trying to eat Bridget.

Bridget: [sad sigh]

Thanks for trying, everyone.

Bridget: I guess I'll just have to hide forever.

Daisy: Hm, I wonder why that octopus only chases Bridget

and not the other hermit crabs...

Squeeks: I know! So hurtful. So insulting.

Daisy: Hmm...

[gasps]

Oh hey!

The only difference between those hermit crabs

and Bridget is that their shells are much more fancy.

Nature Cat: Whoa! Check it out!

Those shells have moving parts!

Squeeks: Whaaaat? Daisy: Huh? What?

Hal: Can your shell do that too?

Bridget: Wait, Hal... Those aren't just shells.

Those are sea anemones.

Hal: Oooh!

Senenomenomees!

Squeeks: No, Hal. It's 'seababenomee'.

Nature Cat: Oh, Squeeks.

I believe it's pronounced, 'see-mamemonus'.

Bridget: It's 'sea a-nem-o-nee'.

Nature Cat: Just like I said!

Daisy: What's a sea anemone?

Nature Cat: Hmm. It looks like a plant.

Squeeks: They look like little squishers.

Bridget: Wait! Don't touch them!

Bridget: Sea anemones aren't plants. They're animals.

And they can give a painful sting with their tentacles.

Daisy: Say whaaaaaat?!

Bridget: That's how they hunt for food and protect themselves.

Daisy: But the sea anemone couldn't hurt you,

if it were on your shell, right?

Bridget: Nope!

It's hard for a sea anemone to hurt me,

because my shell and exoskeleton protect me!

Daisy: Hey!

Maybe that's why the octopus doesn't att*ck

those other hermit crabs.

Hal: [gasps]

Daisy: It doesn't want to get stung

by the sea anemones that are stuck on the crabs' shells.

Bridget: Hey, I think you're right!

Hal: We've gotta get you some of those-

Sea a-nem...a-nem-a..monoma...

Oh you know what I'm talking about!

Squeeks: But why would the sea anemones want to hang

on Bridget's shell?

What's in it for them?

Nature Cat: Hmm. Squeaks does have a point.

Daisy: Hm, these sea anemones are just sitting on that rock.

But those sea anemones

are getting a sweet ride around the tide pool.

Squeeks: Yikes.

That hermit crab is a really messy eater.

No offense, Bridge.

Bridget: Hey, none taken.

Nature Cat: [gasp!] Look!

That sea menomenon is catching some of that extra food.

Daisy: That must be what the sea anemone gets.

A free ride so it can hunt

for food wherever the hermit crab goes,

plus some extra scraps from the hermit crabs meal.

Nature Cat: How cool is that?

Daisy: I think I remember Granny Bunny telling me about this...

Daisy: There!

It's called, symbiosis.

Hal: Symbiosisisis!

So many fun words in this episode!

Gosh kids learn so much.

We should get an Emmy for this.

Narrator: So you're curious about symbiosis, huh?

Narrator: Sometimes two living things have a relationship

where one or both of them benefits.

That's called symbiosis.

Narrator: For instance when this cow moves around,

it turns up dirt and some very tasty insects.

By staying close to the cow,

the cattle egret doesn't have to work very hard to find a meal.

Daisy: Sweeeet!

Hal: Tah Dee!

Hal: Hey... That's me!

Hi, Hal! It's me, Hal!

Hal: Oh hi, Hal!

It's me too too also.

Hal: How come your voice sounds different from mine?

Hal: I don't know...

Narrator: Think about a dog that has fleas...

that's another kind of symbiotic relationship.

Hal: Well, I sure don't like that relationship.

Narrator: Right, but fleas get a lot from living on a dog.

They get food and can lay their eggs in the dog's fur...

Hal: ...and all I get is itches!

Blech! No thank you, fleas!

Narrator: But it's still symbiosis...

two different kinds of animals living together for the benefit

of at least one of them!

Nature Cat: So the hermit crab and the sea anemones are in a

relationship that helps them both survive.

Bridget: So... if I get a sea anemone to stick to my shell,

you think the octopus will leave me alone?

Squeeks: It's worth a sh*t!

Why don't you try it on?

Hal: Excuse me. Hi, sea anemonemomeees

I'm Hal-anemoneonees?

Would you please hang out on my friend, Bridget?

Hal: Well that did not work.

Daisy: Hey Hal, maybe we should let Bridget handle this.

Hal: If you say so. And you did.

[clears throat]

Bridget: Um... excuse me.

Hi. I'm Bridget.

Want to hang out on my back?

I'll give you a ride on the ocean floor and you can

have all my leftovers.

Bridget: Okay so...I'll take that as a 'yes'.

Squeeks: Oh no. Here comes the octopus.

Nature Cat: Oh! I'm sooooo me-nerv-va-nervanous!

Daisy: Oh Bridget! Be brave!

Daisy: Did you see that?!

The octopus swam right past her.

Squeeks: Toodle-ooo, octopus!

You'll have to find your dinner somewhere else tonight!

Bridget: It worked!

Nature Cat: Don't thank us.

Bye Sea Anemones! Hal: [mumbling]

Nature Cat: Uhh... can we go back to sand sculptures now?

Squeeks: Let's make a sand hermit crab.

Daisy: With a sea anemone on its shell!

How 'bout that for taking this episode full circle?

Nature Cat: Onward and-whoa!!

Hal: Strawberry Fields Forever.

Squeeks: Strawberries! Woohoo!

Yeah!

Nature Cat: Ahhhh! There's no place like

the strawberry farm in summer, aye-what?!

Daisy: Mm! Man-oh-man,

Yum! You got that right, Nature Cat!

These strawberries are super sweet! And so ripe!

Hal: Strawberry Fields Forever, baby!

Squeeks: A gorgeous plate of strawberry and cheeses.

I could weep!

[ringing]

g*ng: Sadie!

Sadie: Hiya, you guys!

I miss you all so much.

I thought I'd say hello.

Hal: We miss you too too also also also, Sadie!

A third also to show you how much we miss you!

Sadie: Wow.

Where are you guys? It looks so beautiful there!

Daisy: We're at the Strawberry Farm!

Nature Cat: Yes yes!

Just look at how many beautiful, fresh,

and tasty strrrawberries there are!

Sadie: I wish I was with you guys at the Strawberry Farm.

Strawberries are my favorite fruit, you know.

Hal: Wait aren't there some in the city, Sadie?

Sadie: It's a sore subject, actually.

There is a Farmer's Market

near my apartment that sells really delicious strawberries.

Sadie: But yesterday, I woke up late and by the time I got there

no more strawberries, crazy, right!

Nature Cat: Do not sweat it, Sadie,

for your strawberry troubles shall be no more!

Sadie: Really, how?!

Nature Cat: For I, Nature Cat,

with the help of my furry fruit-finding team,

will bring fresh strawberries back to you in the city!

Sadie: You'd do that for me?

Daisy: Of course, Sadie. We'd love to.

We'll pack a box and bring them over first thing in the morning.

Sadie: Oh, you guys are the greatest.

I can't wait to taste the strawberries.

I'll see you tomorrow morning!

Nature Cat: Okay, let the collecting continue!

Squeeks: Interesting.

There are some soft strawberries in here with the firm ones.

They still taste good, but they're like mushy.

Nature Cat: I noticed the same thing.

I wonder why some have become so mushy.

Hal: Beats me.

Mushy, that's a funny word. Mushy.

[laughs]

Is that even a word? Mushy.

[laughs]

Daisy: Man oh man, there are so many strawberries

left to pick before they go bad.

Hal: I wonder what will happen to all the berries

that don't get picked?

Poor berries.

Squeeks: I dunno, Hal. There are so many of them.

Maybe they're just left to rot in the field?

Nature Cat: Well, no matter.

Let us box some up and bring them to Sadie in the morning!

Tally ho!

g*ng: Sadie!

Sadie: No way, it's you guys!

Nature Cat: Here we are, Sadie, strawberries at your service!

Hal: Tee-deeee!

Sadie Ahhh! What is that?

Hal: Ewww.

What happened to all the strawberries!?

Daisy: Man-oh-man!

It looks like they got moldy.

I guess that's what happens when fruit gets too ripe.

Squeeks: Oh yeah! Like once I left out a peach to ripen.

Only it ripened too fast and got this green,

fuzzy stuff all over it and smelled really bad

but I ate it anyway and then I felt sick.

Daisy: Yup, that was mold, Squeeks!

Hal: Mold! I knew it!

I always do not like mold!

Eww mold mold mold eww!

But one teeny-tiny question

about this mold that I do not like!

What is mold?

Daisy: Mold is what happens when food sits for too long.

Daisy: It says here that mold is a type of fungus-

like mushrooms.

The fungi are too small to see.

But when there's enough of them, we see mold.

And mold likes fruit!

The fruit has what mold needs, water and food.

Daisy: Mold can look fuzzy, or green or white,

or yellow or brown!

Gross.

Nature Cat: I feel horrible Sadie. I'm so sorry.

Squeeks: We didn't mean to get your hopes up,

only to bring you moldy strawberries, Sadie.

That's cruel.

Sadie: It's okay, guys.

I mean what can you do, huh?

Woulda been nice to taste fresh strawberries,

but mold is mold.

[ringing]

Sadie: Oh hey, I gotta go in now for my afternoon nap.

Hey, thanks for trying, guys.

Nature Cat: I cannot take seeing Sadie so sad!

This is not over.

We will not give up!

We will march straight back to the strawberry fields and bring

them right back to her first thing in the morning.

Neither mold nor mush shall defeat us!

Tally ho!

Squeeks: If we don't get these strawberries to Sadie fast,

they'll be overripe and extra moldy! Yuck!

Daisy: I know! We can't wait until tomorrow morning!

Hal: Well, what's the fastest way we can get the

strawberries to Sadie now?

Daisy: Hmmm...I think I have an idea!

Daisy: I give you: the Strawberry Slingshot!

g*ng: The strawberry slingshot?

Daisy: Precisely. It's simple:

We'll put a box of strawberries on top like so...

Daisy: Then pull this part back like so and let 'er fly

...like so!

g*ng: Three, two, one!

[splat]

[double splat] [slurps]

Nature Cat: Okay now what? Hal: I think this calls

for some... magic.

magic... magic...

Hal: Step right up.

Hal: And what is your name little fancy cat?

Nature Cat: You know my name.

I'm your best friend, Nature Cat...

Hal: What is your request?

Nature Cat: You know my request...

Squeeks: Play along, man.

Just make him happy. Come on..

Nature Cat: Okay, very well.

We'd like to send strawberries to our friend Sadie in the city.

Hal: This is your lucky day.

Because the Great Hal-Dini can make anything vanish and then

re-appear wherever he wants,

at any place of his choosing.

And all by using his mind.

Nature Cat: But how?!

Hal: Shh!

The Great Hal-dini is focusing now.

Nature Cat: Oh, sorry.

Focus away, Hal...Dini.

Hal: All the Great Hal-dini must do now is say the magic words.

Abra-dahhhh..

Do a little bit of this with the paw.

And voila!

Nature Cat: It's amazing! Squeeks: It worked?

Daisy: Say whutt!

Steve: Mmm, mmm, mmm.

Steve: Nothing like some fresh strawberries in the summertime.

Steve-o hit the jackpot, baby!

Woo-hoo!

Hal: Tah-dee!

Squeeks: Well we obviously can't do this ourselves you guys.

We're gonna need some help.

I know just the pigeons for the job.

Nature Cat: Did you say...pigeons?

Squeeks: Yeah.

I've got some pigeon pals who can make an

express delivery for us.

[whistles]

Squeeks: Hi you guys,

would you mind delivering this to Sadie in the city?

No signature required.

Pigeon A: No problem.

Pigeon B: You can trust us.

Squeeks: Get back here you Strawberry Scoundrels!

You berry bandits!

Daisy: Man-oh-man.

Sadie's never gonna taste these strawberries.

Nature Cat: There just doesn't seem to be any way to get Sadie

these strawberries fast enough so they don't go bad again.

Farmer Mouse: Ha! There is a way!

g*ng: Huh? Farmer Mouse: Howdie!

Farmer Mouse: And there is a way to keep these strawberries

as tasty as they are now.

Farmer Mouse: What do you think I do with all those?

Just let them go bad on the plant?

No way!

Daisy: Are you sure?

What about the mold?

Squeeks: Let me get this straight.

Are you saying you know how to keep mold from growing?

Farmer Mouse: Oh ho ho! I sure do! Come on!

Follow me!

Farmer Mouse: The best way to keep mold from growing is to

take away the water from these here strawberries.

Nature Cat: Water? Why does it have to be water?

Daisy: So, when you take away the water from food, you know,

dry it, that makes it less likely that mold will grow?

Farmer Mouse: Yep!

Drying food is one way to preserve it,

and that happens to work great for strawberries!

Nature Cat: But how do you dry out the strawberries?

Hal: Yeah. Do you like throw strawberries in the dryer?

Or like hang them up on a line like you do clothes?

I mean that would be weird. [laughing]

Farmer Mouse: Nope!

I'll show you how though. By making strawberry fruit rollups!

Squeeks: I'm sorry.

Are you saying you can actually make your own fruit rollups?

I'll believe it when I see it, pal.

Farmer Mouse: Oh yeah.

You'll just need a baking sheet, one quart of fresh strawberries,

washed and stemmed....

Hal: No problem there, Farmer Mousie!

Farmer Mouse:...one tablespoon of fresh lemon juice,

and a cutting utensil.

Ya'll ready?

Nature Cat: But of course, Farmer Mouse.

Onward and dryward!

Farmer Mouse: So first,

line the baking sheet with paper.

Put the fresh strawberries in a blender.

Add lemon juice and blend it

until you've made a smooth puree.

It should be liquid enough to pour,

but also thick enough to spread with a spoon.

And if it looks too watery, well you just add more fruit!

Hal: No problem there either!

[buzzing]

Farmer Mouse: And when it looks just right,

spread the mixture onto a baking sheet.

Daisy: Thank you so much Farmer Mouse.

We're hoping to get Sadie her strawberry treat real soon!

Squeeks: Yeah, she was so disappointed this morning.

It was sad. How soon will they be dried and ready?

Farmer Mouse: Well, usually I dry them on my kitchen shelves,

which takes a few days.

But we can use my oven at a very low temperature

to dry them today to speed it up!

Nature Cat: A brilliant idea!

To the Farmer Mouse's house.

Tally ho!

[upbeat music] [clock ticking]

Farmer Mouse: Once the strawberries cool,

test them for dryness by

peeling back an edge of the fruit spread.

If the edge lifts cleanly,

well it's dry enough for slicing and rolling.

Hal: Oh, yeah, baby!

Farmer Mouse: Now roll each strip and store in a clean,

dry, air-tight container.

Farmer Mouse: Okay, all done!

Hal: Now what?

Farmer Mouse: Well now we taste!

g*ng: Mm! Wow!

Nature Cat: Amazing! Daisy: Sweet!

Hal: Yummay!

Squeeks: C'mon you guys, time to bring these over to Sadie!

Daisy: Thank you so much,

Farmer Mouse, for showing us all about dried fruits.

Farmer Mouse: Well, no problem!

Bye-bye, ya'll!

Nature Cat: Onward and Strawberry

Fruit Rollups to Sadie-Ward!

g*ng: Sadie!

Sadie: Hey, no way!

You guys are back!

Squeeks: You bet your tail, Sadie!

Sadie: Did you bring fresh strawberries for me this time?

Eh?

Daisy: We're sorry, Sadie.

We weren't able to bring you fresh strawberries.

Nature Cat: But we brought you something just as special

and just as delicious.

Hal: Tah-dee!

g*ng: Strawberry Fruit Rollups!

Hal: Forever!

Sadie: Wow! Strawberry fruit roll ups

made from strawberries that were just picked.

That sounds amazing!

Mmmm!

They're bursting with flavor!

Daisy: And better yet, they won't go bad.

Squeeks: So there's no rush in eating them, Sades.

Hal: Numm nmm nmmmm! No mold or mushiness now!

Nature Cat: Ah, dried strawberries.

Yet another incredible and delicious creation of nature.

[crunch]

Sadie: Crazy right? [munching]

Nature Cat: Ahhh. Oh, that's nice!
