NARRATOR:Collinwood in .

Barnabas Collins has returned to the past

in an effort to change the course of history

and prevent the disaster that occurred in .

But he is not aware of a new thr*at

which will endanger him and everyone else

in the great house,

for Desmond Collins has rediscovered

the body that belongs to the legendary head

of the evil Judah Zachary.

Leaving a helper in the underground vault,

Desmond's goals to make arrangements to transport

the body to Rose Cottage and reunite it to the head.

But when he returns to the underground vault,

he discovers an unexpected terror.

[mysterious music]

Tim?

It's gone!

Tim!

No.

It's gone.

Gone.

What will I do?

The Bedford Atrocities, it will k*ll us all.

[dramatic music]

[ominous orchestral music]

Well, back so soon.

What a surprise!

How was your trip?

Have you seen Quentin?

You know, Samantha, I was just sitting here

waiting for something.

You know the feeling where you just

sit there and expect something,

I didn't think it would be you.

Gabriel, where is Quentin?

I don't need to keep track of Quentin Collins.

Why should he be concerned?

You weren't even here.

I was ready to wager that you wouldn't even come back.

As usual, you are wrong.

Perhaps this time,

but I have other bets on you too, Samantha.

Which husband will you choose?

Quentin or Gerard?

You've come back to announce your choice, haven't you?

And all of us are just dying.

We just can't wait to hear what it is.

Did you...

Did you tell little Tad yet?

Have you told Tad of your curious dilemma?

[chuckles] I should like to witness that scene.

Dear Tad, there is something I must tell you.

You're going to have two fathers now.

I was determined that you would not get me angry again.

I don't want you to talk like this around Tad.

I want you to leave him alone.

Is he in his room?

Since I'm his favorite uncle,

perhaps I should go up and say good night to him.

No, I don't want you to upset him again.

So he is upset.

Did he influence your decision, Samantha?

He has not been well.

I've told him the facts.

That's all that he has to know.

If you so much as even mention this

in front of him, I will k*ll you.

Oh how I have waited to hear you say that.

You've never gone so far before.

All you could do before was thr*aten to have me

thrown out of the house, but you can't do that now,

can you, now that Quentin is back?

And what do you think he'll say?

Nothing.

Because he doesn't want you to talk to him either.

He'll understand!

I wouldn't be too sure.

I have a rather...

curious effect on Quentin.

Yes, you do and I know why,

because every time he sees you sitting in that wheelchair,

he remembers--

Why I'm here, yes, yes!

SAMANTHA: You count on that.

You make him feel responsible.

It was nothing but a childhood accident,

two children playing.

And one child unable to walk for the rest

of his life because of that playing!

You wouldn't know how to live

without that hold over him.

Quite the character reader, aren't you?

Why don't you try to tell me how to live my life?

Go on, Samantha!

We have made such a success out of yours.

[mysterious music]

Off to see your lover?

I'd be very careful walking

through the woods tonight, Samantha.

There have been several att*cks.

We wouldn't want anything to happen to you, would we?

[door clatters]

[mysterious music]

If I destroy the head,

the body is bound to die.

I must do it before they are reunited.

[dramatic music]

It's gone!

[dramatic music]

Gone, it's gone.

How could it be?

Desmond, talking to yourself?

With the lights so low too.

What's this?

Firewood, I just finished splitting some firewood.

You don't seem surprised to see me.

Did you get word that I was back?

No, I didn't know.

Desmond, something is wrong with you.

Nothing, nothing at all.

It's something...

Is it Gerard?

Is he all right?

Yes, yes, I guess he is.

Where is he?

I don't know, I've been out.

Would you please see if you could find him

in his room and tell him that I want to talk to him?

Yes, you stay here.

Samantha, you stay right here.

[a* clatters]

Desmond, we were looking for you.

Someone to see you, Samantha.

Samantha?

DESMOND: Yes, she's in the parlor.

My darling.

Hold me.

Have you made a decision?

SAMANTHA: I know it's cruel of me not to have,

cruel to Quentin and to you and to me.

Have you seen Quentin?

Will you run into his arms as you ran into mine?

I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I just thought that...

The waiting would be over with.

There's so much to decide.

Tad.

Does he speak of me?

He said how kind you were to him on the ship

and how much he liked you.

And that doesn't make any difference with you?

Well, he loves his father.

I don't think I've slept since I've left here.

I just keep sitting and...

watching Tad when he's asleep and...

imagining what our life would be like.

Then I think of Collinwood.

Oh, Gerard, I always saw myself as a decisive person.

It's shattering...

to discover how weak I am.

You are not weak.

You were the one that...

Well, you didn't create this situation.

I did.

I was the one who forced you into marrying me.

Forced me to come alive again.

Gerard, whatever happens, whatever I decide,

there's something that I want you to know.

I love you very much.

[mysterious music]

[knocking]

Who is it?

DESMOND: Desmond.

Leticia, did you take something from the drawing room?

What you talkin' about, Dubs?

You told me to get rid of the head.

It's gone?

Yes.

Yes and if you didn't take it...

LETICIA: If I didn't take it, what?

Look, I won't blame you, I swear I won't.

I know you did it because it frightened you

and I appreciate it, but you must tell me if you have it.

Please don't lie to me.

I'd tell you if I had it, love.

You make me tell you the truth, you know.

I could never lie to a man as nice as you.

Desmond.

It's for the best that it's gone.

It was changing you.

It was evil.

Don't try to find it, Desmond.

Don't ever try.

[spooky music]

GABRIEL: My, my, it's everyone's turn

to hunt Quentin tonight, isn't it?

I've got to find him.

No, you just wait!

I wanna talk.

Remember that riddle I helped you solve?

Tell me what you found on Gallon's Hill.

Tell me.

Nothing, nothing at all.

Why don't I believe you, Desmond?

You've got to!

No, I don't.

No, I don't think you're telling the truth.

I think you found something, something you don't want

to share with me, something you want to share with Quentin.

And that's why you're hunting him, isn't it?

[groaning]

You're hurting me!

I'll do a great deal more

until you tell me what you found.

[dramatic music]

Say it.

You can't fight back.

You can't fight the crippled, Desmond.

What did you find on Gallow's Hill?

Gabriel, what are you doing?

Just a little family quarrel.

Now you let him go!

Now!

[laughing]

But you'll tell me what I want to know later.

Won't you, Desmond?

I told you before, I know nothing.

We'll see, we'll see.

Oh, it might interest you to know, my dear brother

that Samantha and Tad are back.

Tad is in his room.

Samantha went out.

I'll leave it up to you to guess where.

Quentin.

I'm going to go see Tad.

Well, you can't, you can't go now.

I have to talk to you.

I've got to have help, I've got to have it now.

Do you remember when you first got back

and I told you I had something for you?

Yes, what was it?

DESMOND: Only when we went to Rose Cottage,

I didn't give it to you.

Well, what was it?

It was the head of Judah Zachary.

[dramatic music]

I must get back to Collinwood.

I will take you there.

No, darling, no.

Are you afraid Quentin will see me?

Doesn't he know that...

that you've chosen him already?

How can he know when I don't even know myself?

You'd be a fool not to.

You'd be a fool not to leave.

How can you spend your life with a penniless,

homeless, wanderer?

SAMANTHA: You're none of those things.

Samantha, why don't you take a good look at me?

I know you better than you know yourself.

What you were in the past has nothing to do with...

what you are, what you will be in the future.

[door opening]

Oh, excuse me.

You're lucky it was me, ducks.

So you're back.

Yes.

Please excuse me.

[door closing]

Congratulations.

For what?

When does the honeymoon start?

She was merely kissing me good bye.

Who'd believe that?

I do.

You didn't used to lie to me.

But things change, people change, even me.

You do love her, don't you?

I can tell.

You can see it in your eyes.

Well, don't worry about me, love.

I got a brand new interest... and I'm going to keep it.

Poor Tim Braithwaite.

His body was ripped from his head.

I know what it was that happened

and I know what it was that caused it to happen.

Quentin, the body...

the body has somehow found the head.

Judah Zachary.

He's alive again.

It's impossible, Desmond.

A severed head can't live.

And a body buried over years ago, must decompose.

Quentin, I came to you because you have

an interest in these things.

You accept the fact of unexplainable happenings.

You must believe me, you do, don't you?

Yes, I believe you.

What can we do, Quentin?

We've got to find Judah Zachary.

If we do, we won't be able to k*ll him.

There must be a way.

[rustling]

No, no, Quentin, a g*n won't help.

We won't know until we try, will we?

Quentin, you don't know the evil.

We're not going to stop him by talking about it.

Now we've got to find him, now come on.

[ominous music]

GABRIEL: Back so soon?

Good night, Gabriel.

You just missed your husband, you know.

Oh, I told him you were back.

What did he say?

Nothing, absolutely nothing.

It didn't seem to stop him from going out.

By the way, how's Mr. Styles?

If Quentin comes back, shall I tell him to wake you?

That's up to him, isn't it?

[wind howling]

Desmond, there's one thing I don't understand.

If the head was here,

how did the body get inside the house to get it?

I don't know.

Are you positive you told no one?

Yes, I'm positive.

I don't think the two are together, I know it.

I hope not, for all of our sakes.

All right, I want you to go to bed.

I can't sleep.

Now listen to me, there's no point

in hunting for him further.

Perhaps he'll go back to his hole.

What'd you do with Braithwaite's body?

I got rid of it, what else could I do?

All right, that's good, because with his reputation,

I don't think anyone will miss him.

I want you to get some rest, come on.

I caused this to happen,

that's the terrible thing I can't forget.

As a kind of joke, I brought that head for you.

Now don't worry about it.

We'll find a way out of it, believe me.

How, Quentin, how?

[clock chimes]

A note for you, love, from Collinwood.

Samantha.

Who else there would write you?

[spooky music]

Has she made up her mind yet?

[laughing]

Oh, my, my, you were up late last night, weren't you?

Tell me, Quentin, what is the matter with Desmond?

Nothing's the matter with Desmond, Gabriel.

I think something is.

Something has happened and it's something

about Gallow's Hill, isn't it?

[door clanks]

Good morning.

Good morning.

Gerard.

Quentin, I have a note from Samantha.

You've seen her, of course.

No, I haven't seen her.

She was asleep when I came.

And of course, you didn't wake her.

QUENTIN: No.

Ah, the all important moment is here.

SAMANTHA: Gabriel, if you'll excuse us.

Good luck.

[tense music]

You look tired, Quentin.

It's very kind of you to notice.

I notice everything about you.

Well?

Have you made up your mind?

Yes.

I know with whom I must spend the rest of my life.
