TÝR
God of w*r in Norse mythology.

Famed for his strength and great courage.

Lost his right hand
when he sacrificed himself in battle.

[sniffling]

[sobbing softly]

- [pop music playing over radio]
- [Turid humming]

[cell phone chimes]

[clears throat softly]

Erik - Lovely seeing you the other day!
Maybe we could do it again?

[chuckles softly]

Really lovely!
It would be great to see you again soon.

[sighs]

[keyboard clacking]

[somber music playing]

Oh, my God. [breath trembling]

Laurits? Magne? Can you come downstairs?

I have to tell you something.

Vidar is dead.

[breath trembling] I don't know
what happened.

He seemed healthy, but I guess he wasn't.

Laurits, this is just terrible.

[suspenseful music playing]

EPISODE - GOD IS GOD,
THOUGH ALL MEN DEATH HAD TASTED

[sighs]

[Gry] This is crazy.
First my dad, and now...

Yeah, it's not the same thing.

You were close with your father.
I wasn't with mine.

This changes nothing.

Fjor, you're allowed to be sad.

We have always been together.

He was the head of the family.
We have to retaliate.

And how do you want to do that?

Blood vengeance.
We'll avenge blood for blood.

But we don't know exactly what happened.

We know that he's dead,

and that the axe k*lled him,
and that maybe Magne did it.

But that's all.

It's that f*cking bastard's fault.

So blood vengeance on Laurits?

Yeah.

Or...

Yes.

[knocking at door]

Okay, but let's play the game.
Cardiac arrest.

- Hey.
- [Moland] Hi.

- [Saxa] Come in.
- How are you doing?

- [Saxa] Well, you know...
- [door closes]

[Moland] Well, this is... It's terrible.

My condolences.

We have all been shocked by this.
I had no idea he was sick.

His heart stopped.
It can happen at any age.

[Moland] Well, I'm sorry to come over

and bother you with business
in the middle of all this.

No, it's fine.

Right.

The company's statutes say that

it must be the eldest son
who takes over the business.

But I understand that Vidar and Fjor
had some sort of falling-out?

And as late as yesterday,

Vidar said he thought that
Saxa should take over as soon as possible.

I do realize
that you are still in high school,

but it's really important
that we are clear on who the successor is.

- Right. I think we should talk to Fjor.
- No. Why?

In that case, let me talk to him.

Right, you can
have a look at the statutes.

I'll see myself out.

Thanks.

[door opens and closes]

Ran, what are you doing?

- I have no problem taking over.
- Yeah, I'm aware of that.

I'm just...

I'm just thinking...

Are you mourning?

[Ran] I just lost my husband.

Aren't you?

What?

[Ran] Don't you feel anything?

No.

[tense music playing]

- [door opens]
- [bell chimes]

Fjor.

[Fjor] What do you want?

Uh...

I have to tell you something.

Last night, I was, uh, at Jutulheim.

Vidar was there.

And Laurits...

And I thought Vidar
was going to hurt Laurits.

So, we got into a fight.

And then...

Vidar fell by the axe.

[breath trembling]

But I've read about the old world.

That you, as his son,
are bound by duty to avenge him.

So if you want that...

we can do it.

[tense music continues]

Fjor?

Go home.

But I'm still guilty.

Yeah.

But I can't help you with your conscience,
and in this world, it never happened.

[somber music playing]

NO ACCESS

[Magne] Laurits...

[Laurits] I'm going to the doctor.

Can we, uh...

Can what?

Just be brothers?

I'm sorry, but...

What do you think it's like
to live here with you after what you did?

I protected you.

From whom?

My father?

- He tried to k*ll you.
- No. Dad didn't want to k*ll me.

- He was going to teach me.
- [exhales shakily]

[Laurits] m*rder*r.

[crying softly]

[Harry] I can pimp a motorbike for you.

But I'm not pimping your lawnmower thingie
with an eight-legged horse in gold.

[Harry chuckles]

I gotta get back to work.

[Iman] Want me to persuade him?
I can make him do anything I want.

Hi!

Why are we here?

Because you've drawn
too much attention to the nursing home.

Cheer up, young warrior.
You've achieved your first big victory.

You've avenged the Volva.

[Iman] And Isolde!

I k*lled someone.

But, Magne, he was the enemy.

[Wotan] This battle comes at a price.

I k*lled someone.

I'm just as bad as them.

But, Magne...

I'm a -year-old
who thought he was a god.

I k*lled my brother's father.
My brother hates me.

I'm done.

[intense music playing]

[sighs]

[reporter on TV] The Jutul family
has asked us to point out

that there is no connection
between the ongoing environmental case

and Vidar Jutul's sudden death.

It was Vidar Jutul's wish
to be buried in Edda,

where he has always lived and worked.

It will be a big event
with several other top...

Yeah... That's brutal.

Additionally, the government...

I hope you know
that Vidar lives on through you.

Even though it's hard to think of it now,

you were lucky to get to know him

before he passed away.

[Laurits] You're weird.

But I f*cking love it.

Are you sick?

I just came from the doctor.

Turns out I have a f*cking tapeworm.

Uh, tapeworm?

It's a parasite in the bowels.

- These will get rid of it.
- [Jens] Mmm.

They're supposed to
make it come out by itself.

[chuckles] Okay... Nasty.

[door opens]

[reporter] The Jutul family...

- Hi!
- Hello!

[reporter] ...especially when Fjor Jutul

distanced himself
from his father and the corporation.

The usual? Veggie burger?

[Saxa] I do not know
what made my brother take this position,

but I do know that he has had
some personal issues in the past days.

The rest of us have to face the fact

that our company
is the fifth largest in Norway,

and that it is difficult to run a business

with constantly shifting
environmental requirements.

But we look ahead,
and we are working to repair the damage.

We may be on opposite sides,
but damn, she's good.

Not as good as you.

[Jens sighs]

"Not as good as you."

[chuckles nervously]

What's your deal?

How come he gets table service?
You don't do that for anyone else.

[chuckles softly]

I mean, there's no one else here.

He eats all his meals here.

So, he's good for the environment,
and good for business.

'Cause he's gay?

My gaydar is never wrong.

[chuckles softly]

You don't usually do this.

Have ice cream with your girlfriend
in front of her mother's hair salon.

[chuckles] Well, I don't usually do this.

Mom and I were talking...

Mmm-hmm.

She's not from here.

And we moved here
because Dad got a job at the factory.

And she wants to go back to Trondheim.

[breathes deeply]

She's put the salon up for sale.

I don't really want to leave,
but it's just me and Mom now.

And I know what it means to her.

But I don't want to lose anything else.

[Fjor exhales deeply] Hey.

Why do you think you're gonna lose me?

I can't ask you to move.

Your whole life is here. Your family.

I know you had problems,
but they will pass.

Right, but I wanna come with you.

Seriously?

Well, yes! [chuckles softly]
I'm telling you I want to come.

When are we leaving?

Uh, we want to leave as soon as possible...

- Okay.
- ...after my exams.

Right, then we leave
as soon as you're done. And me with mine.

But what about your dad's funeral?

[sighs]

Yeah... I don't think I'll go.

Fjor, you have to.

[intense music playing]

EDDA HIGH SCHOOL

[school bell ringing]

It's good to see you, Magne.
And welcome, Turid.

- Thanks.
- Yeah.

Right. As you probably know,
I'm filling in for Ran here these days...

after Vidar's untimely death.

[Turid] Yeah, that was really...

[clears throat] I care a lot
about Magne's future,

so I truly hope
that we can find a solution.

I spoke to Erik, who mentioned
it might be possible to...

I mean... [hesitates]

We just ran into each other on the street.
So don't think that...

No, we're just friends.

Yeah, right. Hmm.

So, uh, Magne, you had a somewhat
tumultuous end to your school year.

But we are happy to let you know
that we want to put the past behind us.

[Turid exclaims] That's fantastic news.

- Thank you.
- [Nygaard] Hmm.

Magne...

Thanks.

Yeah, there's no need to thank me, Magne.

We have also decided that it would be fine
for you to finish the school year

with one written exam.

We have also decided on a topic
that you have a true passion for.

That is Norse mythology.

- [Turid] Wow! That's exciting.
- [Nygaard] Yeah.

Huginn and Muninn, and Zeus, and...

[mellow music playing]

I need to talk to you. Outside.

What the hell are you thinking?

You can't just walk away
from us like that.

Are you just going to call it quits
in the middle of all this?

I k*lled someone.

Yeah, and I had your back.
Don't you get that?

You said it was w*r. People die in wars.

- Thor k*lled thousands of giants.
- Maybe I'm not Thor.

You can't f*cking say that! You hear me?
You can't f*cking say that!

You took out Vidar.

What about Ran? Saxa? Fjor?

And Laurits?

[electricity crackling]

Forget about Laurits.

No one touches him.

No one.

[Iman] That's what we need!

The rest of us will continue,
understand that.

JUTUL INDUSTRIES

Hi.

Have you ever taken
a look at all the photos

of our board members out there?

Yeah, or, uh...

A bunch of white, middle-aged men.
I think we should do something about that.

The world doesn't look like that anymore.

And if we want to be seen
as a modern corporation,

surely we have to keep up.

And those of us who have lived through
, years of women's oppression

are ready to show
that it can be done so much better.

- I'm an old soul.
- [Moland] Yeah.

[Turid] Hi. Are you busy?

Because I can come back later.

I just had, uh, something personal,
but work-related.

[Moland] I'll grab some lunch.

I...

I just wanted to say that
I'm sorry about your father, and, uh...

if being around me is difficult,
I understand that considering...

It hasn't been easy
for Laurits, either. So...

Turid, what... what is it?

If you find it difficult
with me sitting out there,

I can switch to another department.

There's no need for that.

I think we can, uh,
keep our emotions out of this.

Really?

Isn't that what life is about? Emotions?

Depends on who you are.

[Turid sighs]

In a way, we are family now.

[hip-hop song playing]

[man] Again.

Again.

Hey!

[grunting]

[grunting]

[song fades out]

[chuckles] You give up already?

Hi!

Hi.

[Iman] Want to spar?

Uh, with you? Yeah.

[chuckles] Okay, but I'll kick your ass.

[Harry grunts]

Hey! Proper punches. Show me some respect.

[Harry] Okay, okay.

Normally I don't hit girls, but, uh, okay.

[grunting]

[groans]

Damn. You throw a good punch.
I'll give you that. [grunts]

[both grunting]

[groans]

Sorry, I got carried away.
Do you surrender?

Forget it. [breathing heavily]
I never give up.

[grunting and groaning]

[groans]

- [Iman] How about now?
- [groans]

[breathing heavily]

I never give up. Didn't I just tell you?

[knocking at door]

[door opens]

You have the old woman's necklace, right?

The one she used
to initiate you and Magne?

I have someone we can use.

Someone who doesn't give up.

Welcome, my friend.

It'll be like a protest. We should gather
as many people as possible.

- You're in, right?
- [Hilde] Yeah.

[Oscar] I think it'll be awesome.

Hey, Magne! You're in, too, right?

In on what?

Oscar's gone all Greta Thunberg
after the pollution...

No, I just... I realized that what
we've been doing in town, it doesn't work.

You and Isolde were the ones
who started it all, which is dope.

Vidar is dead, right?

So now it looks like people are starting
to feel bad for that Jutul crowd, right?

Yeah. Yeah, they feel bad for them.

And Saxa has become like
the spokesperson for that evil empire.

- Hey.
- I'm telling you, like...

[pop music playing
indistinctly on speakers]

- [oven beeping]
- [Jens] Give me a second, I'll be there.

Hi.

Uh, I know things are rough between us.

But I just wanted to say...

I'm sorry you lost your father.

I know what that's like.

Thanks.

[gentle music playing]

DON'T DRINK THE WATER!!!
MOM

Thanks for a great day, son!

Was amazing! Can I keep the bike?

Yes. Love, your dad.

[door opens]

- [Turid] Hello.
- Hi.

Are you eating already?
We're having dinner soon.

I just took the pills for the tapeworm.

They're supposed to be
taken with food, so...

I just have to wait for it
to come out on its own.

Beans straight from the can
are kind of gross, don't you think?

We don't have anything else in this house.

I've been working.

Right. Your children
don't need to eat anyways.

- [scoffs]
- [door opens]

- Hey...
- [door closes]

- [Turid] Hi.
- Hey.

What's up?

[Turid] Well, nothing much.

Other than Laurits trying to
give me a guilty conscience.

At least some of us have a conscience.

Give me a chance.

After what you did?

Seriously, guys.
Things are so tense between you two.

I know things have been difficult,
but can't you try and make up?

Give each other a hug? Hmm?

Just go ahead.

Come on.

[Laurits groans]

- [Turid] What is it?
- [Magne] I barely touched you.

[breathing heavily]

- Hey, what is it?
- It came from nowhere. It just... [grunts]

- Hey.
- It's jabbing down my groin.

Seriously?

- [Turid] It's the tapeworm.
- [Laurits grunts in pain]

Okay, do you need to poop?
Would that help?

- Come on, I'll help you out.
- [groans]

- [Turid] No?
- [Laurits grunts]

No. Dear God... This isn't right.
Can you call an ambulance?

[Laurits] Oh, sh*t. It hurts like hell.

- Will you get him ready?
- [nurse] Yeah.

- [sighs]
- [gasps]

[device whirring]

What in the world...

What is it? What do you see?

I mean...

Uh... Everything is fine,
it's just that it's unusual in size.

We should prepare theater three,
just in case.

[nurse] Absolutely.

Theater? What theater? For operating?

[doctor] We just want to take care of you.

Just take it easy now.
They're really good at their job here.

- All of them.
- My! Your little friend is moving.

[Laurits groans]

What is that?

[doctor] It's, uh...

It's just a bit bigger
than the ones we normally see.

[Laurits groans]

Please. Don't cut into me.

- Promise. Don't cut me, no matter what.
- [beeping]

- [nurse] Theater three is ready.
- [Laurits] I want to do it myself!

[Turid] Can't you give him
morphine or something?

This is worse than when I had Magne.

[doctor] Give him ten milligrams
of morphine.

Everything's okay, just breathe.

[grunts loudly]

[doctor] You're okay, Laurits.
You're doing okay.

Breathe. Come on. Breathe now.

We are too many in here.
So, can someone leave?

Magne, got it?
We're too many. You need to leave.

Magne, go!

[Laurits screaming in pain]

[Laurits screaming]

[indistinct conversation]

It's done. He's fine.

No. He needs to rest. He's exhausted.

We'll go home
and come pick him up later. Okay?

Magne.

Let's go home.

[door opens and closes]

[nurse] Hi, Laurits. That was a tough one.

But you're recovering quickly.

I have to ask you something.

The... Uh, you see,
that tapeworm we removed today

is the biggest the doctor's ever seen.

So we'd like to donate it to science.

Because, um, it's actually still alive.

- Alive?
- Yes.

- It's alive?
- Mmm-hmm.

Can you show me?

[Fjor] Daddy's little girl.

- Gry's little boyfriend.
- [Fjor chuckles]

It's been a crazy week.

And Ran thinks it's the bastard's fault.

She just sits and drinks white wine
and smokes.

It wasn't him.

It was Magne.

He came to me and, uh, offered me a duel.

[sighs]

No... You can do it if you like.

What do you want, Saxa?

Right now,
Moland and I are running the whole thing.

And that little speech of yours
hasn't made it easier.

I have to ask you if you want
anything to do with the business,

or if you're totally out.

I'm out.

Okay.

I'm not coming to the funeral.

I'm leaving with Gry.

[Saxa] You've always been a coward.

[car door opens]

[car door closes]

[car engine starts]

[birds screeching]

[man over radio] ...which is why Saxa Jutul

will be the one to become
the head of the company.

But today is a sad day for all of Edda.

Today, one of the city's great sons,
maybe the greatest,

will be buried.

Vidar Jutul was years old.

He was important
not just to Edda, but to all of Norway.

Today we remember Vidar Jutul...

[Turid] I hope there's room for us
in the church.

I don't think I can do this, Mom.

Of course you can.

Hey.

We're doing this for Laurits, right?
It's his dad.

Poor thing. I can see you're hurting, too.

Even though you didn't like him.

What if this is my fault?

What do you mean?

I don't understand.

Laurits, can you come down?
We're going to be late.

He hasn't left his room since yesterday.

[dramatic classical music playing]

[Turid] Jesus.

You look so much like your father.

[Laurits] Do you like it, Magne?

I'm just going...

Magne?

[classical music continues]

Anyone there?

Is anyone there?

I don't want to do this!

I k*lled him! I don't want this!

[thunder rumbling]

Can you hear me?

I've lost my brother!

[thunder continues]

[classical music continues]

[church bell tolls]

[choir music playing]

- [door opens]
- [music stops]

[door creaks shut]

[music resumes]

Don't f*cking show up late
to my dad's funeral.

Jesus and our dad
don't really go that well together.

[in English] To use an old expression,

today we say farewell
to one of this town's sons.

That is especially relevant
when we talk about Vidar Jutul.

For, in his family,
son has followed father for generations,

always with the same great task ahead.

It's almost like a Christian tale.

Son follows father...

thus carrying the torch forth.

And what a torch Vidar was.
