01x24 - Off the Rails

Gordon was resting in a siding.
"lt's tiring being such a splendid engine.

"One does have
to keep up appearances so."

"Hello, Fatface!" whistled Henry.

"What cheek! That Henry is
too big for his wheels.

"Speaking to me like that -
l've never had an accident!"

"Aren't jammed whistles and burst
safety valves accidents?" asked Percy.

"No! Might happen to any engine.

"But to come off the rails like Henry.
ls it right?"

Gordon watched Henry getting ready
for the express.

"Be careful, Henry. You're not pulling the
Flying Kipper now. Keep on the rails!"

Henry went off in a huff
and Gordon went to sleep.

"Wake up!" said his driver.
"We've got a special train."

"Coaches or trucks?"
"Trucks."

"Trucks?" said Gordon. "Ugh!"

Gordon's fire was slow, so Edward
had to push him to the turntable.

"l won't go!" grumbled Gordon.

- "Don't be silly," puffed Edward.
- (Whistling)

At last, Gordon was on the turntable
and his fire was making steam.

Gordon was cross
and didn't care what he did.

"l'll show them," he hissed.

He moved to jam the table
but slithered into a ditch!

"Oosh!" he hissed.
"Get me out! Get me out!"

"Not a hope," said his driver.
"You're stuck, you silly engine."

They called the Fat Controller.

"Gordon didn't want to take the train
and ran into a ditch?

"What? Tell Edward to take the special.

"Leave Gordon.
We haven't time for him."

By the ditch, some boys were chattering.

"He looks silly.
They'll never get him out.

"? Silly old Gordon fell in a ditch

"? Silly old Gordon fell in a ditch
all on a Monday morning ?"

Gordon lay in the ditch all day.
"Oh, l shall never get out."

But that evening,
they lifted Gordon out of the mud.

Ropes were fastened to him

and James and Henry
managed to bring him to safety.

(Clanking)

Late that night, Gordon crawled home,
sadder and wiser.
