- Right! Everybody ready to take a look?

(kids): Yeah!

- Then open your eyes!

(kids): Wow!

(tweeting)

- And here's one I made earlier.

- Zowie!

That's some bike circuit!

- Yup. I'm pretty pleased with it.

Now, you've all got your bikes?

(kids): Yes!

- Uh... I've got a scooter.

- No problem, Zak. A scooter'll be fine.

(laughing)

Okay. Today we're going to learn proper control of our bikes. And scooter.

- Oh.

- First things first:

safety is very important.

So helmets on!

(laughter)

(tweeting)

- I've got a few things to do, so I'll see you later.

Take good care of them, Zowie. Whoops!

- Hello!

- You're in a bit of a hurry, Zinnia.

- I know. It's my new bike.

It goes really, really fast!

- Mm. I'm sure it does. See you later.

- Wait for me.

- Okay, Zinnia, put your bike with Zou and Elzee's,

and I'll show you the circuit.

We start here and then we go around here,

then back down the other side till we get to there.

- Oh, Zou, where did you buy that bike?

- It was Grandpa's. He gave it to me.

- Huh. It must be really, really old. Does it still work?

- Huh?

- Don't worry, Zou.

She's only jealous because her bike hasn't got a basket.

- Yeah.

- And the most important thing to remember is control of your bike.

So let's start by zigzagging between these cones.

- Uh, without touching them?

- Yup! That means careful steering.

So who wants to go first? Zou?

How about you?

- Okay.

- Ready, steady, go!

- Oh!

(tweeting)

(squeaking) Oh.

- Don't worry, Zou. You did really well.

Everyone hits a cone or two first time around.

I don't think I've ever seen anyone avoid them all on their first go.

Your turn, Elzee. Ready, steady, go!

- Oh!

- Oh.

Well done, Elzee! Just the one cone down.

So you both look like you know what you're doing already.

- My turn!

- Going to go one better, are you, Zinnia?

- Yes! Just watch me.

- I certainly will.

So... ready

-

-

- Steady, go!

- Hey!

- Wow!

(gasping)

(Zinnia laughing)

- Ta

-dah!

- Uh, very good, Zinnia! Very impressive.

Looks like you're already a good cyclist.

- Yes! I practiced riding my bike at summer camp every day.

- Well, looks like it paid off.

- I know. That circuit of yours is easy.

Pity Zou and Elzee haven't practiced like me.

- Um, it's not a competition.

- Well, if it was, your bike might not make it round.

- Hey! Grandpa won lots of races on this bike.

- Now, now. We're not here to compare bikes.

We're here to learn how to ride them. And we haven't all had a go yet.

Ready, Zak?

- Uh, think so.

- Ready, steady, go!

- Yeah!

(panting)

- Hold on, Zak! The circuit's over here!

- Oh, no!

(exclaiming)

- Zak!

(Zak screaming)

(grunting)

(laughter)

- Yay!

(laughing)

Wow! I went really fast, didn't I?!

- Yes, you went really fast.

- And I didn't fall off once!

(grunting)

- Ah. That's better.

Oh. Oh, dear.

Alright, time to take a break.

We'll carry on biking tomorrow.

- So how did it go?

- It was alright.

- Hmm? Something the matter, Zou?

- Oh, nothing.

But... Oh.

I'll never be a champion cyclist like you were.

- Oh, come on, Zou. All you need is a bit of practice.

You'll win lots of races if you keep on trying hard.

- Yes, but Zinnia's got this really good bike and she's really fast and...

- It's not all about the bike, Zou.

Like I said, practice is the thing.

(Zou): Hmm...

- I tell you what. Why don't I help you with a bit of training?

- Oh, yes, please, Grandpa!

- Nice to see you smiling again, Zou.

(laughing)

- Hmm.

- Vroom, vroom, vroom! Okay, Grandpa, let's go!

(Grandpa laughing)

- Patience, Zou.

That's the first thing a champion has to learn. Off you go.

- Hmm.

- Now, steer carefully between the logs.

(Zou exclaiming) Hmm.

- Oh! I'll never do it.

- Oh, come on. A proper champion doesn't give up at the first setback.

- It's not the first one. I didn't do it at the gym, either.

- So you just keep on trying until you do.

Think of a bird learning to fly.

(tweeting)

It doesn't know how to fly from the day it's born.

(chuckling)

It has to fall from the nest a good few times before it learns to use its wings.

- Let's try again.

Hmm.

(Grandpa laughing)

- Yes!

Keep going!

- Hmm.

- Keep your head up! Eyes front!

That way, you'll see the obstacles better.

- Hey, you're right, Grandpa!

- Keep going.

- Oh!

(Zou laughing)

(tweeting)

Excellent zigzag work, Zou.

Just remember to sit up straight and keep your eyes on what's in front of you.

(Zou laughing)

Hello, Zavier, Zelda.

- Yes. Hello.

We've come to watch Zinni

-pops on her bike.

She tells us she's the star of the class.

(tweeting)

- Okay! Welcome back! And today I've got a bit of help with the class.

- Hello.

- I've rebuilt the circuit a little differently,

so two of you can use it at the same time.

- I did some training with Grandpa yesterday. I think I might be better today.

- We'll see. We could have a real proper race this time!

- Yes, maybe we could!

- Ahem!

Like we said yesterday, it's not a race.

This is to teach a bit of road sense.

- But we could do a bit of racing too, couldn't we?

Please, Zowie?

(both): Mm.

- Um, well,

if that's what everyone wants, then yeah, okay.

- Yes! You'll see, Zinnia.

I've got better since yesterday!

Oh! Oh, no, the chain!

(Zinnia laughing)

- Your bike's broken and the race hasn't even started yet!

- Don't worry, Zou. It's just the chain.

I can fix that in a jiffy.

- Grandpa, did you really win races on this bike?

It doesn't look like a racing bike to me.

- Oh, I, uh, I won quite a few races on this old thing.

And you will too. Just remember what I said.

Keep calm, keep your chin up, and keep your eyes on the way ahead.

- Hmm.

- Now, are you ready?

- Ready, Grandpa.

- Good. And so's the bike.

All mended!

- That was quick!

- Okay. On your marks,

get set... go!

(Zou): Oh!

(Grandpa): Come on, Zou! Go on, Zou!

- Go, Zou, go!

- Oh, well done, Zinnia!

(giggling)

- I'm gonna win!

- Ride like the wind, Zinni

-pops!

- Oh.

(grunting)

- Head up, Zou!

- Hmm.

- Go, Zou!

Keep going, Zou!

(Grandpa): Yes!

(dad): Let's go, my little Zinni

-pops!

(mom): Oh, well done, Zinnia!

(Grandpa): Hurray!

(laughing) Keep your head up!

- Ah!

- Zinnia, stop!

(Zinnia exclaiming) Did you not see the stop sign, Zinnia?

You braked too late! You'll have start again from the beginning.

- From the beginning? Oh!

- Just because she was going faster!

- But those are the rules.

And if Zinnia had kept her mind on handling her bike and watching where she was going...

(moaning)

And Zou's the winner!

- Yahoo!

(all cheering)

- Well done, Zou!

- Well done. It's just the same on the road.

Being a quick, skilful rider isn't the only thing;

you must obey the rules too.

- Ah, well done, Zou!

- Thanks, Zinnia.

- Next time, it'll be different.

I'm going to summer camp again next year and I'll practice and practice.

- Zou, I knew you'd win!

- First time as well!

(Grandpa chuckling)

- But not the last!
