[chuckles] Eek,

[laughter]

[mock cat voice] Eh?

Ooo. Hello, meow-meow-meow.

It's so good to see you!

Can you guess who I am,
meow-meow­meow?

That's right!
[chuckles] It's me!

I'm just trying
out this old mask.

Can you guess why?

That's right! It's Halloween!

It's Halloween here
at the Big Blue House.

So, come on in!

We're just getting ready...

[sniffing]

What's that smell?

It smells like... [sniffing]

pumpkin!

[sniffing]

Hmm?

[sniffing]

[gasps] It's you!

[sniffing]

Ooo. Tell me,

were you just carving a pumpkin
into a Jack-o-lantern?

Or were you making
a pumpkin into pumpkin pie?

[clapping lips]

[sniffing] Aaaah!

Because you
smell just like pumpkin!

Or maybe you smell this
sweet and good all the time?

[laughter] Well let's get
ready for Halloween!

So what do you
think of our decorations, huh?

Very halloweeny,
don't you think?

[chuckles]

But there's still a lot more
that needs to be done.

Like,
I have to carve the pumpkin,

I have to get everybody
ready with their costumes

and I still have to get a
costume of my own!

Then here comes the best part

we're going Trick or Treating!

[laughter]

Hey, I have an idea.

Would you like to come with us?

Great! Go get your costume
or if it's not handy,

you can just pretend!

[giggles]
Rustle, rustle, rustle...

[giggles] rustle,
rustle, rustle...

Did you hear something?

[giggles]

[whispering] Shh.
Quiet. Quiet. Quiet. Quiet.

Hey, I've never noticed bushes
in my living room before.

Have you?

[in scary voices]
Heeelllloooo, Bear.

Guess who we are.

[laughter] Hmm...

Do you know who it is?

Pip and Pop!

-Ta-da!
-[laughter]

It's Pip and Pop!

-Yeah.
-Wow, guys! What great costumes!

Thank you.

I've never seen a bush
costume before, have you?

-But, urn... hey Pop?
-Hmm?

What's that stuck
in your branches?

Oh, that's a ball
that got stuck there.

You know how our ball is always
getting stuck in the bushes?

Mm-hmm.

Oh, I see!

Very creative!

Yeah, it really was.

That's the great part about
dressing up for Halloween.

You get to discover what
it's like to be

someone or something else!

Yeah.

Hey, that gives me an idea!

Pip, let's go out to
the pond and see

who can stand still
like a bush the longest!

[gasps] Cool!

-See you later, Bear!
-Bye, guys.

Rustle, rustle,
rustle, rustle... [giggles]

Isn't Halloween great!

Hey!

Halloween.

Halloween.

Do you know what the first
letter of Halloween is?

Did you say "H"? That's right.

Halloween!

Ooo. [chuckles]

Halloween is a wonderful
holiday in the fall

when people
dress up in costumes!

Mm-hmm.

And you could dress up
to be anything you want!

Like...

you could be a character
from your favorite story...

like, Peter Pan

[fairy sound]

or Tinkerbell!

You could even dress
up to be something spooky.

Like a ghost!

Boo!

Heh-heh-heh, it's just me!
Heh-heh.

And then you get
to trick or treating.

You know what that is, right?

Oh. Well, you go around
the neighborhood,

you knock on doors,
and you say "Trick or Treat!

"And then all your friends

and neighbors give you
things like

apples, or popcorn or candy!

Hmm... candy.

Halloween.

You can be something silly
or spooky

or scary because
underneath it's still you.

♪ You could be
a friendly ghost ♪

♪ Who haunts a cemetery ♪

♪ Or a wacky werewolf ♪

♪ Who is big
and gross and hairy ♪

♪ You could be a Martian
With nostrils slimy green ♪

♪ And who said boo? ♪

♪ Was that you? ♪

♪ You could be a superhero ♪

♪ Or his little brother ♪

♪ A bat whose
brains are oozing ♪

♪ In one ear and out the other ♪

♪ Just think
of what you'll see ♪

♪ When all the spooks are free ♪

♪ So what are you gonna be ♪

♪ For Halloween ♪

♪ On Halloween, ♪

♪ With lots
of creatures on parade ♪

♪ On Halloween, ♪

you don't need to be afraid ♪

♪ And all your friends

in your cool disguise ♪

♪ That trick-or-treaters

You know there is nothing
more fun at Halloween

than carving a pumpkin
into a big ol' jack-o-lantern.

And I've got a nice round
pumpkin all ready to be carved.

Huh?

What the-

-Ahhh!
-Ahhh!

Tutter! You scared me!

[laughter] Sorry, Bear.

Ooo, Tutter, nice costume!
I like the hat.

What? Oh. [laughter] No, Bear!

This isn't a costume.

This is what I always
wear for a pumpkin dig.

And I love diggin' pumpkins!

[chuckles] In fact you
might say I dig 'em,

[laughter] get it? I dig 'em.

Oh-ho, oh-ho, that's rich.
Oh-ho. Oh, oh boy...

[laughter] Yes, Tutter,
yes. We-we all got it.

You see, Bear, the first step

to preparing a pumpkin

is to remove
all the seeds and stuff...

That's right, Tutter.

All the seeds and stuff
inside a pumpkin,

that's called pulp.

Yeah right, the pulp.

Now-Now, stand back,
Bear, stand back, ha-ha!

The pulp is going to fly.

Here we go now.

[gasps]

Whoa!

There's a lot of pulp
in this pumpkin.

Yeah, and [grunt] some of these
seeds

are bigger than [grunt]
my Baby Cousin Blotter!

[grunt]

-Tutter, you okay in there?
-[grunting] Yeah, yeah.

[grunt] All finished.

[grunting] Woo boy!

The pulp is all cleaned out!
Ha-ha!

Wow. Good job, Tutter. Good job.

-Oh. Thank you, Bear.
-Here, let me give you a hand.

Oh great.

-Careful.
-There you go.

Ah. Thank you, Bear. [giggles]

Okay. Now then.

Next comes the carving!

We have to make
a jack-o-lantern face!

That's right, Tutter!

My, you are quite the pumpkin
expert, aren't you?

[chuckles] Well,
yeah, you know, I dabble.

[chuckles]

Hey,
you could help me with the face.

-[gasps] Really?
-Mm-hmm.

Really,
really, really, really, really?

Yeah, Tutter. Tell you what,

um, I'll give you a marker

and you can draw the face
on the pumpkin

and then I
will carve it out with a Kn*fe!

What a great idea!

You should always let
a grownup carve a pumpkin.

Hm. Very true.

-Okay, Tutter.
-Yeah.

-Here's a marker.
-Oh boy. [laughter]

You get started. I'll check
back with you later.

Okay.

Hmmm...

Well, we've got the
pumpkin started--

-Hmmm...
-I think...

And Pip and Pop
have their costumes.

I just have to get
a costume for me.

-Hmmm...
-Could you help me?

Great! Let's go.

Ah... hmm...

trick or treating ♪

♪ We'll shout a scary greeting ♪

Now let's see. Where did
I put that costume box.

Hmm?

Oh! Maybe under the bed...

[laughter] Oh! Treelo!

Ah, Bear! Bear, I came up
here to play...

Big Bat, Bear!

Eekie, eekie, eekie!
Bat, Bear, Bat!

A bat?

Eekie, eekie,
eekie, eekie, eekie, eekie,

eekie! Eekie, eekie, eekie!

Welcome to my bat cave.

Eekie, eekie, eekie, eekie!

-Eekie, eekie, eekie, eekie!
-Bat! Big Bat!

Ha-ha. Hey, Bear!

Hey, Ojo. Nice costume.

Treelo, it's ok.

Okay? It's not okay. Ah!

The bat come closer, Bear.

-Huh?
-Hey, Bear!

What's wrong with Treelo?

Well. Ojo, I don't
think Treelo knows

it's you underneath
your Halloween costume.

Ohhhh.

Hey, Treelo, it's just me, Ojo.

[giggles]

[gasps] Ojo!

Uh-huh.

-[giggles]

-Ojo?
-See, Treelo,

Ojo is just wearing

a Halloween costume
and pretending to be a bat.

Where the bat? Where the bat?

Ojo back! But where the bat?

Oh, Treelo,
I never really went anywhere.

I-It's just me and it's
just a costume.

A really good costume.

-Costume?
-Uh-huh.

Cost-Oh! [laughter]
Bear, it's just a costume, Bear.

Not a bat.

Yeah. And a very cool costume.

Yeah, Treelo, and you know what?

-What?
-You could be a bat, too.

[gasps] Treelo be bat? Really?

Uh-huh! Come on. Hey,
I'll help you make your costume.

-See you, Bear!
-Yay! Treelo gonna be bat!

-Bye, Bear!
-You ready, Treelo? Come on.

-Mm-hmm.
-Eekie, eekie, eekie, eekie.

Bye, you two! See you later!

Well,
I'm glad Treelo feels better.

Now where did I put
that costume box?

-[giggles]
-Huh?

Did you hear that?
That sounded like Shadow.

Hmmm...

I know she's
around here somewhere.

Hey! Maybe if we sing a song
together, she might appear.

Ready?

♪ Oh! Where-o where-o
where is Shadow? ♪

♪ Where-o where-o
where is Shadow? ♪

-[laughter]
-Hm?

♪ Where-o where-o
where is Shadow? ♪

♪ Where can Shadow be... ♪

Hmm... Shadow?

[laughter] I do
love that song, Bear.

-I do love that song.
-[laughter]

Well, I know you do, Shadow,
that's why we sing it.

So, Shadow, what have you
been up to this Halloween?

Oh, Bear, Halloween is the best
day of the year for a shadow.

It is?

It's so much fun
to see everyone out at night!

And there are so many
other shadows to play with!

Ooo. I didn't know that.

Well, Shadow, do you
happen to have

a brand new
Halloween story for us?

I do Bear, I do!

Just listen and watch
what I conjure up!

-Ooo.
-[magic fairy dust sound]

♪ What do shadows
do on Halloween? ♪

♪ First we wash
ourselves squeaky clean ♪

♪ and float gently
up out to dry ♪

♪ You won't see us
because we're shy ♪

♪ Then we sit in moonlight
in the trees ♪

♪ whisper secrets
with the leaves. ♪

♪ Hide in a dark
corner and giggle ♪

[giggles].

♪ Under a street
lamp merrily wiggle ♪

♪ Tip-toe lightly upon the fog ♪

♪ Singing woefully with a frog ♪

-Ribbit.
-Ribbit.

-Ribbit.
-Ribbit.

♪ Jump through
jack-o-lantern light ♪

♪ Scarecrow stories
by a bonfire light ♪

There once was a scarecrow

that was the greatest
scarecrow of all time...

♪ But a favorite
Halloween thing to do ♪

♪ Is to go trick-or-treating
with you ♪

Trick-or-treat.
Give us something to eat.

[magic fairy dust sound]

Wow!
What a great Halloween story.

Gee, shadows are certainly
busy on Halloween.

You know it, Bear!

Speaking of which, I've got
to get my costume ready.

I'm going as Yankee
Doodle Dandy!

Here, tell me what
you think of my hat?

Whoa! Nice feather.

SHADOW: Thank you, Bear.
Well I'm off.

But if you need another story.

Just try and catch me!

[laughter]

[chuckles] Bye, Shadow.
Happy Halloween.

Wow. A shadow
with a Halloween costume.

[chuckles] You never know.

Hey! I know, what say
we go back downstairs

and finish carving that pumpkin!

Come on!

Let me just finish
cutting out the nose.

There! All done!

[gasps] Boy, oh boy!
What a great face I drew, huh?

-Look at that.
-Yeah.

But, um, somehow this pumpkin
looks a little familiar.

Huh?

[laughter]

♪ We're going
trick or treating ♪

♪ We'll shout a scary greeting ♪

trick or treating ♪ [giggles]

Whoa. Hi guys! Wow.
Great costumes!

Costumes?
Whoa. I've gotta get mine.

-[laughter] Excuse me.
-Okay, Tutter.

Coming through. Here we go.

Wow, you guys look great!
Excellent costumes.

-Thanks, Bear!
-But, Bear.

Where's your costume?

-[giggles]
-I almost forgot!

I'll be right back
with the costume box.

Okay. [giggles]

What do you think? Hm?

ALL: No.

Oh. Well, uh.

Oh! Hey-

[mock cat voice] How
about this, meow-meow-meow?

Hmm? Hmm?

ALL: No.

You wore that last year, Bear.

-Mm-hmm.
-Oh, uh.

Hey, how about this?

[chuckles]

I wore this one
when I was a cub.

I could be a cowboy.

[laughter]

ALL: No.

Oh. Well, then, uh, let's see.

There's not much else
in here I could... wear.

So,
um, for once I am out of ideas.

[gasps]

No, no, no, Bear.

I don't think so.

There's got to be
something in this box!

Come on, everybody!

Okay, Ojo.

Oh, oh!

Ooo.

I think we got something here!

-Yeah. Yeah.
-Uh, really?

Uh, what is it?

Close your eyes, Bear.

TREELO: Yeah,
Close your eyes, Bear.

Almost there. Good.
Got the other side?

-Yeah.
-Okay.

Huh? Huh... Hey, uh? Hmm...

-[chuckles]
-ALL: May we present...

Goldilocks the Bear!

-[laughter]
-Huh?

You're very pretty, Bear.

Why, thank you, Treelo.

Hey, uh, I guess I could
get used to this!

Yeah. Used to it.

[laughter] Oh, thanks, you guys!

This is the best
Halloween costume ever.

Even though it is a bit unusual.

ALL: Yay!

Cool!

[laughter]

Here I am!

I'm ready!

ALL: Wow. Ooo. Tutter...

-Cool costwne, Tutter.
-Nice costwne.

Yeah. Well, you know, I figure
I like pumpkins, so much...

why not go as a pumpkin! Oh!

A walking pumpkin!

[laughter] Get it,
Bear-where's Bear?

[chuckles]
Tutter... I'm right here!

-[chuckles]
-Whoa-w! Whoa.

Good costume, Bear.

Thank you, Tutter.

ALL: Hey. Let's go trick
or treating! Yeah, hey.

[cheering]

All right!
Hey, do you have your costume?

Great! Then,
let's go Trick or Treating!

Oh, Hey everybody.

Mrs. Etta and Mr. Otto!

Betcha can't guess who we are!

Ooo. Well,
you bushes do look familiar, but

I'm not sure who you are.

[chuckles] It's us-Pip and Pop!

Yeah.

Oh, candied clams for everyone!

[cheering]

Yay! Yeah. Thanks!

Dirty feet?

Oh, you don't have

As you can see I'm a very
casual housekeeper.

Huh?

Hi, Lois!
Can you guess who I am?

Candied yams?

No, Ojo, I don't have any yams!

But I do have some of these
very delicious birdseed treats.

[cheering]

[chuckles] Why of course!

Yes sirree,
I remember my first Halloween!

I was dressed as a warthog,
as I recall!

[chuckles] Warts everywhere!

ALL: Trick or treat!

Oh, that's right-forgive me
was I still talking?

Oh. Here's some carob
covered corncobs-heh-heh.

-[cheering]
-Thanks Doc.

♪ There's one more
house to visit ♪

♪ That one right over there ♪

♪ I know I've seen that house ♪

♪ But I just can't
remember where... ♪

♪ It's big and blue and spooky ♪

♪ As anyone can see ♪

♪ They'll never know it's me
Or me ♪

♪ -Or me
-Or me ♪

♪ Or me! ♪ Ha-ha.

♪ We're going
trick or treating ♪

♪ We'll shout a scary greeting ♪

♪ Let's tiptoe up and knock ♪

♪ At the house
that's big and blue ♪

-Hi, guys!
-ALL: Bear!

♪ It's you! ♪

[cheering and greeting]

-Yay!

Yeah. That sure was, Ojo.

-Yeah, that was fun.
-What a great Halloween!

Well, Goldy, I guess
I'll see you next year!

-Yeah, Bye Goldy!
-[giggles]

[laughter] Goldy-that's funny.

Hey everybody. Why don't you
guys go through your goodies,

and I'll be right back.

All: Oh... Oh... Yeah.

-Oh boy.
-I can't wait.

Come on! Let's go tell
Luna about our great Halloween!

Ah. There she is.

Hello, Luna! Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween to you, Bear.

I hope you found my light
helpful for trick or treating?

-You're light was great, Luna.
-[chuckles]

but we do carry flashlights

in case it gets cloudy!

Oh, that's a good idea.

Mm-hmm.

Say, did I see a couple
of bushes moving down there?

[chuckles] You bet,
that was Pip and Pop.

Oh.

--and Treelo and Ojo
were dressed as bats

and Tutter was a pumpkin.

How wonderful!

You know Halloween is
my favorite holiday.

-Really?
-Oh yes,

you can't imagine what a lovely
show it is from up here.

I get to see all the beautiful
costumes

and all the wonderful
children having fun.

Wow! That sounds great.

-Mmm. Oh, by the way...
-Hmm?

You didn't happen to see
the cutest little Goldilocks

while you were
out Trick or Treating, did you?

Um.

-Well, I was...
-Hmm.

I mean, I think that was...

-You!
-Me!

[laughing]I know.

What a great costume!

[chuckles] Thank you, Luna.

[chuckles] You know, Bear,

it's always nice to see
the littlest ones

having scary fun,
knowing it's just pretend.

True, Luna, true.

Hey, Luna,
before this Halloween is over,

would you sing

You know I would love to, Bear.
