Whoooo! Hey Zoboo!
Zoboomafoo!
Hey there he is!
Come on! Hi!
Whoooo! All right, here'sa question for you Zoboo.
Is there a snake anywherein the world who is white and
furry like your tail? That'llget him talking. I guess not.
Well you know Zoboo, no yackinguntil he's done some snacking.
Ah! Garbanzo beans. Hey Zoboo, how about some garbanzo beans?
Yeah, you love these huh!
S'cuze me! Zoboomafoo!
I'm Vokey! Vokey! I knowI always say green is a yummy
colour but you know what?
So is yellow! Yeah!
It's yummy if it's yellow!
Yellow, yellow, yellowit's yummy if it's yellow!
I eat it in the winterI eat it in the summer
I eat all the time inall kinds of weather
Yellow things are my favouritethings cause yellow's
a yummy colour/Yellow, yellow, yellow!
It's yummy if it's yellow!
Yellow, yellow, yellow it'syummy if it's yellow!
Yeah! Yellow's a yummy color!
Thank you, thank you.
Don't throw roses, throwgarbanzo beans, yeah! What?
These aren't garbanzo beans!
Oh well, green is a yummy color!
- That was a great number Zoboo.
- Zoboo?
- Where did Zoboo go?
- I'm here under a mountainof green cause green
is a yummy colour too.
- Well start snacking Zoboo.
- I can't, I was eating littleyellow mangos in a tree and
I almost ate something yellowthat I don't eat. A little
yellow creature. Nice but notyummy, at least not for a lemur.
- Who?
- Well I don't know who. Can youhelp me? Who could it be?
Who could it be?
This animal who I did seeCan you help me
guess this mystery?
I was sitting in a tree eatingyellow things and
I almost bit him.
Who could it be?
This animal who I did see.
He had a long bodywithout any legs.
Who could it be?
This animal who I did see.
Can you help meguess this mystery?
A legless, long bodied creature.
Do you know who he is?
- Okay, let's see, I know whatkind of creature it is,
but what species?
- Yeah! There are so manydifferent kind of yellow snakes.
- Bothrops Schlegeli.
- Morelia virdis.
- Whoa! An amazon tree boa.
- Amazing!
- The mystery Animal's here.
Snakadelic!
- Brothers, I can't believemy mind!
- He's just a little guy.
Only eight weeks old but he'salready acting like a big tough
snake. If there's any movementthat gets too close to him,
he strikes. Pah! Pah! Pah!
See what I mean?
So always remember, give a snake his space.
Give them lots of space, lots of space!
Look at this. Believe it or not, this snake is the little
yellow guy's mom.
- No she's not, she's darker!
- Oh! Amazon tree boas comein all different colours Zoboo.
Red, orange, yellow,black and brown.
- Yup! This brown snake is theyellow's snake mother and the
little yellow guy will get justas big, but will
always stay yellow.
- Hey! He kinda lookslike my nose!
- Amazon tree boas hang out inthe trees of the Amazon rain
forest, and that takes amazingmuscle control. Look how she can
stretch from a tree to another.
Check this out. This isthe classic way the Amazon tree
boa rests on a branch. Shebalances half of her body on one
side of the branch, and halfher body on the other side.
- Whoo!
- What does his tonguefeel like Zoboo?
- Soft, kinda flicky like. Whereis his belly. My belly's right
here, you can see it especiallywhen I'm vokey. I don't even
think a snake has a belly.
- Yeah Zoboo, a snake has abelly, it's just a very long
thin belly. See it right there?
It's all belly.
- Super Snakebellies! That'samazing! Super Snakebellies!
Hey, I like that. That's whatI'm going to say when I see
something that's long andamazing. Super Snakebellies!
- Super Snakebellies! And theregoes the Super Snakebelly.
- Super Snakebellies!
A snakeskin. Check it out Zoboo!
- A snakeskin,but where's the snake?
- Oh! The snake's not in hereanymore Zoboo. He or she shed.
- Shed it? Why?
- Well, a snake sheds becauseher skin doesn't grow with her.
So in order to grow bigger, she has to shed her old skin,
it peels right off, and herfresh new skin is
right there underneath.
- Super Snakebellies!
He took his old skin off so nowyou can see his new skin!
Hey! Why don't you guys do that!
Why don't you shed like a snake?
Shed! Shed! Shed! Shed!
- What are you doing?
- Oh! Shed! Shed! Whoo! Shed!
Shed! Shed! Shed! Shed! Shed!
- Zoboo, these are our clothes.
We can't shed them here.
- What about lemurs?
- Well, I guess so.
- Okay then... the only questionis, what to wear? I'm going
to the closet to getsome clothes to wear.
Shedding!
My new skin is itchy!
It's, it's too small!
I gotta shed it! Shed it all!
Hey, you can join me! You canshed too. Everybody, shed! Shed!
Ah! My new skin feels nice.
- But the question is,whose skin is this?
- That's a tough question.
- Yeah, there are so manysnakes in the world!
- Yeah, about two thousandand nighty!
- That's about right.
There's snakes with amazingcamouflage patterns so they can
hide, like this boa constrictor.
Look at how his pattern blendsinto the forest's floor.
But then there are snakeswithout much of a pattern at
all! Like this yellow rat snake.
And don't forget about the coralsnake, his brightly coloured
rings say, stay away from meI'm venomous. And the desert
horn viper has sand colouredskin and little horns
over his eyes.
- I see, I see. And you sort ofhave a dog face. But the
snakeskin is different. So theskin doesn't belong to you,
does it? But whose skin is it?
- That's what we've to find out.
Let's split up and find thesnake who fits this skin!
- All right, now if you want tofind a snake, you have to think
like a snake, so if you werea snake, where would you be?
How about a snake's favouritespot? Way up in the trees
sunbathing. Snakes arecold-blooded creatures so they
need to get heat from the sunbefore they can go on and do
all their snake business.
And there is always...
- Water! The perfect placeto find amazing snakes. Like the
heaviest snake in the world...
the anaconda. But this pond isa little too small. Let's look
somewhere else. In the rightwater habitat, you can find
amazing snakes like the cottonmouth; one of the few snakes who
floats on top of the water whenshe swims. So that's where we
are going to look, around water.
Tell me if you seea snake in here?
You found her!
An anaconda. She looks abouteight feet long. Anacondas are
a type of water boa, and see howher nostrils are on the top of
her head? That's so she can stayalmost completely under water
but still breathand see above water.
- How long can she stayunder water?
- About ten minutes before shehas to take another breath.
- Wow! You're amazing Anaconda!
- But I don't thinkshe belongs to the skin.
- You're right Zoboo! Look, the skin and the snake don't
match. First of all, the skinis way too short for this long
snake. And then, look at herspots. See, she has spots on her
skin, but this snakeskin doesn'thave any spots on it. So she's
an amazing snake, but she's notthe snake we're looking for.
- All right, it's time for me
to find who fits the skin.
- You? Chris, I'm gonna findthe snake that fits the skin!
- Ah, no way! Not before me!
- I have to hurry, if I'm goingto b*at Chris. Let's check that
sunny spot over by the window, come on!
Ah! An easterndiamondback rattlesnake! Wow!
look at that tail rattle!
Special scales in the tailmake the sound.
- Let me see!
- Don't get too close Zoboo, because the snake I found is
venomous. He's a diamondbackrattlesnake. The largest
rattlesnake in the world.
- But he sure is mangatsika!
And look what he can dowith his tail!
- Yeah! A rattlesnake is famousfor that tail which rattles
saying "Don't get too closeor I'll bite and poison you."
- Well I'm veryhappy right here.
- Okay... And you know what elseis really amazing is the way a
rattlesnake can see in the dark.
You want to see like arattlesnake, Zob,
put the eye spies on...
- Okay!
- ...because there is a solareclipse coming in.
- Solar Eclipse?
- Yeah! A solar eclipse is whenthe moon goes in front of the
sun, it blocks it outand makes everything dark.
- Hey! It is dark!
- I know, here now, set this torattlesnake and now you can see
the world the waya rattlesnake sees it.
- Whoo! I can't believe my mind.
You guys look weird.
- What you're seeing Zoboois the heat of our bodies.
That's what a rattlesnakesenses. It's almost like
he's seeing heat.
So, even in the darkestof night, he can sense the body
heat of other creatures.
Hey! Eclipse is over! What greattiming! And now is the time to
see if this is the snakewe are looking for.
- Aha! This snakeskin doesn'tbelong to the rattler.
They don't match.
- You're right Zoboo.
The rattler has diamond shapesand this skin doesn't.
We have to keepsearching for the snake
who fits this skin.
- Keep searching for the snakewho fits this skin.
- Yeah! I wonder if Chrisis having any luck?
- Whoa! A Burmese Python.
And a huge one.
- Oh! Python looks even biggerthan an anaconda. Whoo!
- A one hundred pound!
- Fourteen foot long!
- Super Snakebelly!
- Most snake species areoviparous. Oviparous means they
lay eggs. But the Burmese Pythonis one of the few snakes that
stays with the eggs, protectsthem and keeps them warm until
the baby snakes hatch.
- That's one long snakebelly.
I've got a couple of feet on meand it's too heavy. I'm being
squished by a super hugesnake belly!
- Zoboo, let me give you a hand.
- How about giving me two?
- Gosh! I'm trying.
Can you get out?
- Yeah! Thanks Chris.
- He's saying hello!
- Hi! Nice to meet you too.
You're very heavy.
- Unbelievable! Hey! Thesnakeskin, do you think it fits?
- Uh?
- Let me get it.
Just one minute!
- I think it will be too small, look at him!
- Okay Zoboo, here's thesnakeskin, do you think it fits?
- I don't think so.
- I don't either. This snakelooks about ten times as thick
and as long as the snakewho fits this skin.
- Yeah, I think you're right!
- Burmese Pythons are the fourthlargest snake in the world and
she must be aboutfourteen feet long.
- Mangatsika! Hey Chris!
She's so big and long, how can she move with no legs?
- She moves by using her bellymuscles Zoboo, take a look.
- Super Snakebellies!
- You know, we'd better keeplooking for the snake
that fits this skin.
- Okay!
- Over here! A sand boa!
It doesn't match the skin but doyou want to see why she's called
a sand boa? Watch this! Watchwhat she does as soon as she
hits the sand. Her wedge-shapedface starts burrowing under and
the rest of her body follows.
That's why she's calleda sand boa. Before long
she's hidden beneath the sand.
- Oh! Brothers! Brothers!
Brothers! I think I found thesnake who fits the snakeskin.
- A Trans-Pecos Rat snake!
- Let's see if the skin fits.
- Hey! We have racing stripesthat match the snake
and the skin.
- Yeah! Hoo! Ha!
- And take a look at this!
See how this snakehas really bulgy eyes?
- Oh yeah! That tickles.
He tickled my nose.
- Now, look atthe snakeskin's eyes.
- Oh yeah!
- They're bulgy too!
And you know what else?
What else?
The same exact length.
I think you've done it Zoboo.
- The snake fits the snakeskin.
You're the super snakebellywe've been looking for. We did
it! I can't believe what my eyesare telling my mind and my mind
is telling me, what,I can't believe my mind.
You know what time it is?
It's time to shed.
I feel different not the sameThis kinda feeling I can't
explain, there is only one thingthat I can do, I feel snake-ish
How about you. Snake-ishI feel snake-ish. Snake-ish.
I'm a snake belly sliderwith a belly of a snake
Ssssssss...
Snake-ish!
Ta-da! Okay guys,it's your turn. Time to shed!
- Forget it Zoboo!
- I'm out of here.
- Come on don't... I got them!
They shed! Ha! Ha! Hoo! Ha!
Oops!
- Zoboo, why don't you tell astory from Zobooland while we
get into our new skins,I mean clothes.
- Oh! Okay, well think quickZoboo. Oh! It happened like
this one time, in Zobooland.
I was leaping along, leap, leap, leap, leap, and I landed next
to Snow Lemur playing in sand.
- "Hello Snow Lemur", I said.
- Oh, hi Zoboo. You know, whenI come down to Zobooland,
I like playing in the sand.
It's cool in the morning, and it reminds me of the snow
on top of Mount Zoboomafoo!
- Oh, I like the sand too!
It tickles my fingers!
- It tickles my sides too!
- Oh yeah, yeah, it ticklesmy sides too!
- Tickles tickles tickles- Wait a minute! Sand can't
tickle our sides!
- You're right Zoboo,it's not sand. It's me, Fibby!
- So Snow Lemur, Fibby and Ispent the rest of the morning
together playing in the sand.
The end.
- Great story Zoboo.
- Yeah! Thanks for buying ussome time.
- Sure, and you know what timeit is now? It's time to duck!
- Duck!
- You guys ducked, but I forgot.
And now I got a barn owl on myhead and a message in my mouth.
A message fromthe Animal Helpers.
- Where is everybody going?
Oh! It's just a snake. A lot ofpeople are afraid of snakes, but
no one should be afraid of thisharmless King Snake. That's
pretty silly if you ask me.
To get along with snakes, firstyou have to learn more about
them from books. Most snakesaren't poisonous. But you have
to give the poisonous ones theirspace, like the coral snakes,
rattlesnakes,
water moccasins
and copperheads.
And then you can getto know the rest.
Go live free and in the wild.
- Snakes are great, but I worry about them.
- Why Zob?
- Well, I think they're lonelybecause they're always alone.
- Well you don't have to worryabout snakes being lonely
because they just don'tthink like that.
- And the other thing is thatsnakes aren't always alone.
Sometimes they come togetherin a huge group called
a hibernaculum.
- A hibernaculum? I don't knowwhat that is, but it sounds
like a trip to me.
- To the closet?
- To the closet!
- They're going to the closetThey're going on a trip
They're going to the closetTo grab their stuff and split.
- Whooaaa!
- You can always count on thecloset to do what
the closet does best.
- They're going on a cooladventure, and they don't know
what's in store, they're comingfrom the closet
And they're headed out the door.
- See you later Zoboo.
- Bye brothers.
- We're looking fora hibernaculum.
- A hibernaculum is a placewhere thousands of snakes get
together to stay warm throughthe winter. Then in the spring
they all come out.
- It's an amazing thing and wedon't want to miss it because
it only lasts fora couple of weeks.
Hey I think we've gone too far!
- Let's backtrack!
Backtracking, that's it! That'show we can find a hibernaculum.
Of course, let's find a snakeand then follow her tracks back
to the hibernaculum. Now we justhave to find a snake.
- I think the snake found us.
- All right, I'm on her trailback to the hibernaculum.
When you're tracking snakes, you've got to get
down on your belly.
We follow the winding trailto this incredible gathering
of garter snakes.
- Look at them all!
The snakes are leaving the cavethey used has a hibernaculum.
Now once the garter snakescome out of the cave,
they mate. Then they gooff to spend the summer
on their own.
In the winter, they gather onceagain at the hibernaculum.
It's the only way they cansurvive the cold.
- Martin, what do you say wetrack back to Animal Junction?
Yeah! Let's go underground,garter snake-style.
- I wonder if Zoboofound any snakes?
What's that in the water? Aha!
More snakes! What kind of snakesare you? Coming in. Mangatsika!
That's not very snaky like.
What kind of snake are you?
- They're not snakes at all.
He's an octopus.
And those are his tentacles.
- Hello octopuses! They're likeeight snakes in one
who share the same head.
- Whoo! A young octopus!
- I can't believe my mind!
- He's grabbing my finger.
- Whoo! What an amazing paw, eh!
Foot, hand? Whatever it is.
- Tentacle Zob.
- Tentacle? That tentacle isreally sucking on to you.
Does it tickle?
- Yeah, it kinda does! Becauseon each tentacle there are
little suction cups that cangrab on and hold things.
Hey! That tentacle looksfamiliar, like another tentacle
I know in Zobooland.
- I was leaping along...
Leap, leap, leap, leap...and I thought
I'd leap over the pond...
when suddenly I was grabbedby a giant tentacle.
Fibby said "Hi Zoboo, bet youdidn't expect that." "No, I
didn't, I said, but since I'mhere, and it's pretty hot out,
why not go for a swim!" HeySlimantha, why don't you come
for a swim with Fibby and me?
- I don't think I can Zoboo,I'm af-f-f-raid of the water.
"But why?", I asked.
- Well, I don't knowwhat's in there.
- Hey Slimantha, don't beafraid... it's just Fibby.
She lives in the pond.
Hey, why don't you come andsee my underwater home?
- Yeah, it's really great!
- Well, okay then, since you asked...
So Slimantha did a spinning backtwist in a jelly roll tuck. And
I did a full twisting doubleback from the pike position.
- Yeah! This is fun!
And we played in Fibby'sunderwater home all day and
had lots of fun. The end.
Hey! Who did that?
- The octopus did it Zoboo.
See that little openingright next to his eye?
- Ah-huh!
- That takes water in so theoctopus can get oxygen out of
the water to breath. And it alsohelps him squirt water. And by
squirting, he can get awayreally fast if he wants to.
- I like your squirt.
Hey, that's what I'll call you.
Squirt the octopus!
