ELINOR: "Speedy Swimming"

ELINOR: I can't wait
to go swimming!

ARI: Me too!

RANGER RABBIT:
And we're here.

My favorite
swimming spot.

ARI: Wow!
OLIVE: Amazing!

ELINOR: This is my favorite
swimming spot too!

OLIVE: I can't wait
to dive in!

RANGER RABBIT: You
know, when I was a kid,

I used to come here every
morning to practice swimming.

I even won a trophy at the
Animal Town swim race.

ELINOR: Really, Mom?

RANGER RABBIT: Yup!

Here, let me show you.

Ah-ha!

ELINOR: Wow!
Amazing, Mom.

OLIVE: Cool!

ELINOR: Hey Dad, have you
ever won any trophies?

MR. RABBIT: Not yet.

Do they give out trophies
for "Silliest Dad"?

[silly dancing efforts]

ALL: [laugh]

RANGER RABBIT:
Here we are.

ELINOR: I'm gonna
swim really fast,

just like you, Mom.

ARI: Me too.

Fast as a fish.

OLIVE: I'm gonna swim as fast
as two fish in a fish race!

RANGER RABBIT: [chuckle]
Okay, kids.

I'm going to go swim in
the deep part of the lake.

You stay in the
shallow part.

Mr. Rabbit will keep
an eye on you.

MR. RABBIT: Okay!

Have fun kids!

KIDS: Woo-hoo!

KIDS: Whoa!

[giggle]

ELINOR: Okay, who's ready
to swim really fast?

ARI: Me!
OLIVE: Ready!

ELINOR: On your marks...

get set...

gooooo!

KIDS: [swimming efforts]

OLIVE: Hmm, we didn't
get very far.

ARI: I don't think we
went very fast, either.

ELINOR: Wow.

Look at my Mom go.

She sure is fast.

OLIVE: She's not the
only speedy swimmer.

Look at these
ducks go.

[ducks quacking]

ELINOR: How do they
swim so fast?

I wish we could find a way
to speed up our swimming.

MR. RABBIT: Hey
speedy swimmers,

are you ready for
a snack break?

KIDS: Yay!

OLIVE: Thanks!

ARI: Thanks!

ELINOR: Thanks Dad!

[duck quacking]

[duck quacks]

ELINOR: Oops!
Sorry duck!

Oooh...

ELINOR: Hey! This duck's
feet are so interesting.

It has three toes,

and they're joined together by
the skin in between them!

Why does the duck
have feet like that?

MR. RABBIT: Come have
your snack, Elinor!

ELINOR: Coming.

KIDS: [eating]

ELINOR: Olive! Ari!

I just saw a duck
standing on the sand,

and its feet
were so cool.

It had lots of skin
between its toes.

ARI: Hmm...

All I've got between
my toes too... air!

ELINOR: Hmm...
Same here.

OLIVE: My toes are
too short to wiggle.

Maybe I should check
the other foot?

Whoa!

OLIVE: Hey, what
about that frog?

I wonder if it has
skin between its toes.

ELINOR: Yes, its toes are
joined together with skin, too!

That is so interesting.

Hmm... I wonder why some
animals have toes like that,

and others don't.

ELINOR: We need
more observations!

Let's go find
some more toes.

You two look down there
and I'll work around here.

[♪♪♪]

[frog croaks]

[bird chirping]

OLIVE: There's a robin.

Hmm...

Let's see.

OLIVE: It's toes
aren't joined by skin.

ELINOR: Look!

This turtle's toes
are joined by skin!

ARI: Elinor, Olive!

I found an animal with
really weird toes.

KIDS: [giggle]

OLIVE: Ari, it's a worm.

ARI: I know!

It doesn't have
any toes at all!

KIDS: [giggle]

ELINOR: Okay, some animals have
skin that joins their toes,

and some don't.

But why?

OLIVE: Let's make a list and
see if we can figure it out.

OLIVE: Ah!

Okay, which animals have
toes that are joined by skin?

ELINOR: Ducks have
joined toes.

ARI: Frogs do, too.

OLIVE: And turtles.

Okay, now which ones don't
have toes joined by skin?

ARI: Bats don't.

ELINOR: And rabbits
don't either.

OLIVE: Or elephants.

Or robins!

ELINOR: Okay, some animals
have skin between their toes,

and some don't.

So, what do the animals with
joined toes have in common?

KIDS: Hmm...

ELINOR: Oh!

Ducks, frogs, and
turtles all live...

KIDS: In the water!

ELINOR: C'mon, we need
more observations!

[♪♪♪]

[duck quacking]

ELINOR: Here comes
some ducks!

Let's duck
under the water...

and see what
they're doing.

KIDS: [breathing]

[breathing]

ARI: Those ducks aren't
just floating along.

They're pushing the
water with their feet,

and they're going
really fast.

That is so cool.

[frog croaks]

OLIVE: I see a frog.

Let's hop to it!

KIDS: [giggle]

KIDS: [breathing]

[breathing]

OLIVE: Amazing!

That frog and that turtle are
kicking with their toes, too.

ELINOR: They're using their
special feet to swim faster.

ARI: I wonder why joined toes
are good for swimming fast?

OLIVE: Dun dun dun!

It's a swimming mystery!

ARI: Well, my wings
are made of skin,

and they help me push more
air so I can fly really fast.

KIDS: [giggle]

ELINOR: Maybe these
water animals...

have skin between
their toes...

so they can push
more water...

OLIVE: And maybe pushing more
water makes you swim faster.

That must be it!

ELINOR: That is so interesting.

Let's go tell my Mom
and Dad.

ELINOR: Mom! Dad!

We figured out something
amazing about duck feet.

MR. RABBIT: Oh? Do tell.

OLIVE: Ducks have cool feet
with skin between their toes.

ARI: Frogs and
turtles have them too.

ELINOR: We think that
their joined toes...

help them swim faster,

because it lets
them push more water.

RANGER RABBIT: You're
absolutely right, kids!

We call those feet
"webbed feet".

The skin stretches
between their toes.

RANGER RABBIT:
That reminds me!

I have a special surprise
for you in my swim bag.

Do you want to see what it's
like to have webbed feet too?

ELINOR: [gasp] Yeah!
OLIVE: Yes please!

ARI: Cool!

RANGER RABBIT:
Here they are!

OLIVE: What are those?

RANGER RABBIT: These
are called swim fins.

ELINOR: [gasp]

ARI: Ooh! They look
like a duck's feet.

They're wide
and flat.

ELINOR: Yeah.

And they look like
they have little toes.

OLIVE: Like
webbed feet!

RANGER RABBIT: Yes.

And if you put them
on your feet,

you can push more water
and you'll swim faster.

Do you want to
give them a try?

[gasps]
ELINOR: Yes please!

OLIVE: Thank you!

OLIVE: Can I try
them first, Elinor?

ELINOR: Sure!

OLIVE: Okay, I'm ready to
swim as fast as a fish.

Or at least, as
fast as a duck.

ELINOR: Let's race!

ELINOR: On your
marks...

get set...

goooooo.

OLIVE: [giggle]

That was fin-tastic!

ELINOR: We've figured
out how to swim fast!

[♪♪♪]

KIDS: ♪ Want to
swim real fast? ♪

♪ Want to feel


♪ Swim fins and


♪ those are what


OLIVE: ♪ Ducks,
frogs and turtles ♪

♪ Have skin between
their toes. ♪

ARI: ♪ They hop into
the water, ♪

ELINOR: ♪ Get yourself

OLIVE: ♪ Then jump

KIDS: ♪ Want to

MR. RABBIT: Hey kids,
time to head home!

ELINOR: Okay, Dad.
We're coming.

[♪♪♪]

OLIVE: Thank you!

ARI: Thanks!

ELINOR: Thanks Mom!

MR. RABBIT: How were
the swim fins?

OLIVE: Fin-credible!

ARI: Now we can
all swim fast!

ELINOR: If we
keep practicing,

maybe we'll win a
trophy some day.

MR. RABBIT: Well, I have
a special surprise for you.

[giggle]

MR. RABBIT: While you
were swimming...

I made these prizes for
the three best...

swimming question-askers in
the whole town.

KIDS: Wow!

MR. RABBIT: You're the
most curious kids I know!

KIDS: Thank you.

RANGER RABBIT: Now
who wants to see...

who can get home
the fastest?

ELINOR: I think we've had
enough speed for today.

KIDS: [sigh]

ELINOR: Can we walk home
like slow snails instead?

MR. RABBIT: That
sounds more my speed!

RANGER RABBIT: Ooops, we'll
need this for next time.

Goodbye lake!

[ducks quacking]

OLIVE: Look at the
turtle swimming!

SEÑOR TAPIR:
Indeed it is!

Let's sing a song
about a scientist...

who discovered
other animals...

that lived very
long ago...

and swam with
the dinosaurs!

[snoring]

KIDS: [giggle]

ELINOR: Ready?

[ ]

ELINOR Happy
Birthday Daddy!!

OLIVE: Happy Birthday
Mr. Rabbit!!

MR. RABBIT: Wha? Wha!?
What just happened?

ELINOR: It's us!

Did we surprise you?

MR. RABBIT: Oh, sweetie,
you sure did...

ELINOR: Good!

We want you to have a
really special birthday...

OLIVE: Mhm...

We made these ourselves,
just for you!

MR. RABBIT:
They're beautiful.

[sniffs]

ELINOR: And here's your
birthday card we also made.

MR. RABBIT: Ooooh.

ELINOR: See, it's you, doing
all your favorite things.

This is you working
in the flower garden.

And this is you taking care
of the flowers in our house.

ELINOR: And this
is the time...

we went looking for
wildflower seeds.

RANGER RABBIT: Do I
sense a pattern here?

KIDS: Flowers!

MR. RABBIT: Thank you.

What can I say?

Elinor knows her Dad.

ELINOR: Olive helped.

OLIVE: Happy Birthday
Mr. Rabbit.

MR. RABBIT: Thanks, Olive.

I just love camping
out in nature...

Ahhhhh, it's one of
my favorite things.

ELINOR: I know
something else...

you'd like on your
birthday, Dad...

Breakfast!

MR. RABBIT: Breakfast?

That's my other
favorite thing!

How did you know?

KIDS: [giggle]

RANGER RABBIT: Okay, you girls
are in charge of putting jam...

on the toast.

ELINOR: That's the
best part!

OLIVE: Wha-oh, the
jam jar is empty.

ELINOR: What?
No strawberry jam?

That's Dad's favorite
thing to put on his toast!

Mom, we have to go
to the store right now...

and get some more jam.

RANGER RABBIT:
Sorry sweetie,

there's no store out
here in the forest.

MR. RABBIT: Don't worry,
Elinor.

I don't need jam
on my toast...

I'll just eat it...

plain.

ELINOR: [sigh]

ELINOR: Dad loves strawberry
jam on his toast.

[sigh]

I wish he could have
some for his birthday.

OLIVE: I know,
but what can we do?

RANGER RABBIT: Hmm...

I have an idea.

Why don't we make
some strawberry jam?

ELINOR: You
can make jam?

RANGER RABBIT: Sure.

Even the jam you buy in the
store is made by someone.

First, we need
some strawberries.

OLIVE: But where are we going
to get the strawberries...

if we can't go
to the store?

RANGER RABBIT: Well,
it's strawberry season,

so there should be
wild strawberries

growing all around.

OLIVE: Really?

RANGER RABBIT: Yep, I saw
a strawberry patch...

in the field
right beside us.

You know what they
look like, right?

ELINOR: Sure!

Big and red
and juicy!

RANGER RABBIT: Right!

Why don't you
girls go see...

if you can find
some strawberries.

I'll tell Dad to
watch the campfire,

and meet you in the
field in a minute.

KIDS: Yay!

RANGER RABBIT:
Now remember,

you can't eat berries you find
without an adult there.

ELINOR: Got it!

RANGER RABBIT:
Off you gooo!!

OLIVE: Bye!

[♪♪♪]

OLIVE: This is where
your mom said...

there might
be strawberries.

ELINOR: Let's find 'em!

ELINOR: No strawberries
here!

OLIVE: Ooooh, look
at these, Elinor.

OLIVE: Flowers!
Oh, wait, what is this?

OLIVE: Berries!

Could they be
strawberries?

ELINOR: I'm not sure...

they have the same
shape as strawberries.

And they have the same
seeds as strawberries.

OLIVE: But they're
small and white.

OLIVE: Oooh! Are
these strawberries?

ELINOR: Maybe.

But these are green
and even smaller.

I've never heard of
green strawberries.

ELINOR: [gasp!]

Now these are
strawberries.

OLIVE: Yep.

They're shaped like strawberries
and they're big and red!

ELINOR: But wait,

what about the green and
white berries we found.

What are those?

OLIVE: I'm not sure.

Could they be
strawberries too?

ELINOR: I don't know.

OLIVE: Dun, dun dun!

Sounds like a
strawberry mystery!

ELINOR: We need
more observations!

OLIVE: Ok, let's see.

First, we found these
white strawberries.

ELINOR: Then we found
the small green ones.

OLIVE: Then we found
the red ones.

ELINOR: They're all the
same strawberry shape.

OLIVE: But they're
different colors and sizes.

Why is that?

ELINOR: Hmm, maybe someone
painted them different colors?

Like a berry fairy.

OLIVE: [giggle] But why
are they different sizes?

ELINOR: Wait!

If you look at the
strawberries like this...

green, white, red.

ELINOR: It's like the
strawberry is getting bigger.

OLIVE: Like it's
growing!

ELINOR: Yes!

Maybe the green strawberry is
like a baby strawberry.

And as it grows,
it changes color.

OLIVE: [gasp] I think
you could be right, Elinor.

RANGER RABBIT: Hi, kids.

ELINOR: Mom! We
found strawberries!

OLIVE: At least we think
they're all strawberries.

That's what we
observed.

ELINOR: See?

The small ones are green, the
medium-sized ones are white

and the big
ones are red!

OLIVE: We think maybe
the strawberries...

change their
color as they grow.

RANGER RABBIT: Great
thinking, scientists!

Strawberries just don't just
show up big and red;

They start as flowers,

and then they turn
into small berries...

that grow and change
color over time.

OLIVE: Really?

The white flowers change
into strawberries?

RANGER RABBIT: Yup.

ELINOR: That is sooo
interesting.

OLIVE: Ranger Rabbit, if these
are all strawberries,

can we use all of
them to make jam?

RANGER RABBIT:
Good question, Olive.

Do you think they
all taste the same?

OLIVE: I think
they should,

because they're
all strawberries.

But I'm not sure.

ELINOR: Oooh!

We should taste them.

OLIVE: [gasp]
ELINOR: Can we Mom?

RANGER RABBIT: You sure can,
and I'm really glad you asked.

Remember, you can't
eat wild berries

without checking
with an adult

to make sure they're
safe to eat.

ELINOR: Okay.

The green ones feel
very hard.

I can't tell what
it tastes like!

It's too hard
to bite.

OLIVE: The white ones
are a little softer and...

Umm...

[trumpet]
Boy are they sour!

ELINOR: Really sour!

KIDS: [giggle]

ELINOR: The red one
is nice and soft.

[sniffs]

It really smells like
a strawberry,

and it tastes...

Mmmmmmmmm.

OLIVE: So yummy!!

ELINOR: It's not just the
size and color that changes

when strawberries grow.

The taste
changes too!

RANGER RABBIT:
Nice observation.

Strawberries turn red and
juicy and sweet as they grow.

When they're red
and sweet...

we say that
they are ripe.

Most fruits are not
ready to pick...

until they are ripe.

ELINOR: Ripe means
it's ready to eat!

OLIVE: Hmmm... Ripe.

I like that word.

RANGER RABBIT:
It is a good word.

Now why don't you pick
a big basket of red,

ripe strawberries and then
we'll make some jam for

Dad's birthday.

KIDS: Yay!

[♪♪♪]

RANGER RABBIT: Ok!

First step is to squish
the strawberries...

Squuuish away, girls.

ELINOR: [humming]

ELINOR: Hmmm, these squished
strawberries are yummy,

but they don't taste
like jam yet.

OLIVE: The jam from the
jar is jammier.

RANGER RABBIT: That's
because we're not done yet.

To make our jam
thicker and sweeter,

we have to add some sugar and
then cook it on the stove.

ELINOR: Ooooh!

OLIVE: Wow! Making
Jam is so much fun!

[♪♪♪]

ELINOR/OLIVE: Strawberry jam,
strawberry jam,

♪ We're gonna make
some strawberry jam, ♪

♪ We'll squish up


♪ and cook them


♪ Dad's gonna love


OLIVE: ♪ Fruit starts
out small and hard, ♪

♪ Then it grows and gets


ELINOR:♪ When it's nice
and big and juicy, ♪

♪ Then it's ripe and


BOTH: ♪ Strawberry
jam, strawberry jam. ♪

♪ We're gonna make
some strawberry jam. ♪

[sips] Mmmm,

I think this is ready.

girls think?

[slurps]

KIDS: Mmmmm...

ELINOR: Now that is
yummy strawberry jam.

[snoring]

ELINOR: Happy Birthday Daddy!!

OLIVE: Happy Birthday
Mr.Rabbit!!

MR. RABBIT: Whoa
whoa whoa whoa!

ALL: [giggle]

ELINOR: Look!

OLIVE: We made
you some jam!

MR. RABBIT: [gasp]
What?

You made this?

ELINOR: Yup!

Olive and I found strawberries
in a strawberry patch.

OLIVE: And then we squished
up the red berries,

and cooked them
into jam.

MR.RABBIT: Thank you!

ELINOR: What do
you think?

MR. RABBIT: Mmmm!

This is delicious!

ELINOR: Thanks Dad!

MR. RABBIT: I think this is
the berry best birthday...

I've ever had!
