I've got a really weird feeling about this stake out, Ivy.

It's Friday the thirteenth, 'ya know.

And what we don't need on this Carmen case

is any bad luck.

Ivy: Relax little bro, nothing's going to go wrong

except what goes wrong for Carmen.

Aileen: And that's gonna be us.

Aileen reporting in.

All clear behind the palace.

Yeah, well, it's a good thing I brought my lucky

rabbit's foot just in case we run into trouble.

He's right, Carmen.

Friday the thirteenth is an unlucky day.

I told you before, I think this whole caper is real bad luck.

You think everything is bad luck, Hannah.

You know I don't believe in "luck" good or bad.

It's talent and preparation that make things happen.

But you don't understand!

The last queen of Hawaii, Liliuokalani,

was held prisoner in this very palace -

in the very room we're breaking into!

You're the best alarm expert I have,

Hannah, but what is it with you?

You have to learn to overcome these unnatural fears.

Starting tonight.

[grappling g*n fires]

Code Red! I see Carmen on the roof!

Let's move! I'll cover the back!

Freeze, Carmen!

I got you covered.

Oh no!

Out of our way!

Huh? What? -Hey, cut it out!

Looks like the last laugh is on you guys!

Whoa! Oof!

Carmen's getting away!

[panting]

Huh?

Oh, rabbit's foot, don't fail me now!

[grappling g*n fires]

[struggling]

Oh no you don't!

Something's jammed in the pulley!

Zack's rabbit's foot?!

[sirens]

It's Carmen Sandiego and henchwoman, Hannah Lulu.

Freeze! You're under arrest!

Oh-ho, I told you!

Our luck has gone bad.

I could feel it coming.

We're cursed!

Ha-ha! The greatest thief of all time and we nailed her.

Way to go, Zack!

Yes! Ha-ha! We did it!

We busted Carmen!

All right!

Player:

Carmen:

Hmm.

Maybe you're right about a little run of bad luck, Hannah.

But I refuse to be a prisoner of fear.

Okay.

You'll be a prisoner of the State of Hawaii then.

Good-bye, Carmen.

You did good, little sister.

You caught Carmen Sandiego red-handed.

Wait till this hits the eleven o'clock news.

You'll be famous!

You and Ivy and - Where's Zack?

Oh no!

I can't find my rabbit's foot, guys!

Zack. Get up.

I've had it on every case, Ivy.

There's no telling what's going to happen to me

without it.

Zack, we just nailed Carmen!

Enjoy the victory.

Yes! Super sleuths, you've just captured the most wanted

thief in the world!

What are you gonna do next?

We're going to a big luau my family's throwing

in our honor, Chief.

Very nice, and there's more!

As a big mahalo - that's Hawaiian for thank you -

Acme is also going to give you a fabulous,

all- expense paid vacation to you're-already-there-Hawaii!

Pretty convenient, huh?

Don't forget to watch the news.

Carmen sounded pretty upset about her stroke of bad luck.

Say aloha, which is Hawaiian for good-bye,

to the state capitol of Honolulu,

and say "aloha," which also means,

hello, to Aileen's home island of Kauai!

♪ [Hawaian music]

Chief: Oh-why-why do I love Kauai?

Well, it is oldest of the eight major Hawaiian islands

that include:

Ivy: How come there's so many "o"s and "i"s and "u"s

in Hawaiian words'?

Aileen: Because the official Hawaiian language has only

twelve letters.

We use lots of them over and over,

especially for long words that are fun to say,

ike Humuhumunukunukuapua'a the state fish!

Chief: But wait! There's more!

Zack: More letters?

No! More islands. A hundred and thirty-two in all!

And the first people to discover them were

Aileen: my ancestors, who came in large voyaging canoes

from Polynesian islands thousands of miles away,

back in the first century.

Zack: But I thought James Cook discovered Hawaii.

Chief: Let's just say, in seventeen seventy-eight,

British explorer James Cook rediscovered Hawaii,

and told Europe all about it.

Dear Europe. Having a great time.

Wish you were here.

Chief: You can think of him as kind of the first tourist.

And today, close to seven million people a year

discover Hawaii when they come to snorkel,

surf and have fun in the sun.

I never have that much trouble making poi, Zack.

Probably 'cause you don't have my bad luck!

Oh no!

I hate to pound your poi, but I'm afraid the

vacation's over, Gumshoes!

Carmen and her henchman, Hannah Lulu,

just broke out of the high security jail at Honolulu

Police Headquarters.

And they were last seen speeding off after stealing

one of these.

Carrnen's got her own Hovercraft,

why would she need that?

This one can carry over seventy-five tons!

She must be after something big and is in a big hurry!

You'll have to break the clue she left behind to find out!

Two rocks?

What kind of clue is that?!

What's stuck in the black rock, Chief?

Hmm Looks like a Hawaiian shark-toothed sword.

A what?

Hey, wait!

"A sword in a stone."

Player Info- Scan the legends of King Arthur, a sec!

Hmmm?

[jackhamering]

Zack: The story goes, young Arthur pulled out the famous

sword, Excalibur, from the stone,

thus, proving he was the rightful king of England.

He went on to establish the Knights of the Round Table!

Right! I'll go get the table.

But what's the connection to Hawaiian w*r stones?

Aileen: Wait a minute, there's a Hawaiian story

kind of like that, about Kamehameha the Great,

Hawaii's first king.

As a boy, Kamehameha supposedly moved a boulder

called the Naha Stone, that no one else could move and

that meant he would be the King of Hawaii!

The Naha Stone's in Hilo, isn't it?

And Carmen would need a huge vehicle like an LCAC craft

to steal it!

Player, C-Five us to Hilo, on the Big Island of Hawaii!

Carmen's trail just hit the pipeline!

There she is! After her!

[shouting]

She's headed for the bay!

If she gets to the open ocean she'll outrun us!

Like I always say, detectives, you haven't got

a clue till I give you one.

Yes!

Nooo!!!

Whoa! Whoa!

[splash]

You dropped it!

It's because I lost my rabbit's foot,

I'm telling ya.

I knew it!

I'm really in for it now.

Nothing but bad luck is coming my way.

Yeah! Bad luck and that freighter!

Huh?

Ahh!

Zack:

Zack:

[scream]

Hang on!

Maybe this isn't just about my lost rabbit's foot.

Remember the bathroom mirror I broke last year, Ivy?

Breaking a mirror is supposed to give you

seven years bad luck!

And that time a black cat crossed my path or -

Zack, snap out of it!

A broken mirror is just a broken mirror!

A black cat is just a black cat!

And we don't have time to worry about your supposed

streak of bad luck!

Now, let's fish out that clue and figure out what

Carmen's up to.

Oh, no. Oh no!

Chief: Somebody call Lloyd Bridges! I've decided

to volunteer to make sure you detectives get a clue.

Ivy's the one that needs to get a clue, Chief.

She should learn about these Hawaiian superstitions.

Like this story of the ghostly night marchers that

have been seen at the Nuuanu Pali on Oahu.

Chief: Superstitions say Nuuanu Pali is haunted by the

ghosts of a famous battle that once took place there.

But ya can't let superstitions get the best of ya!

[splash]

[sputtering]

We found Carmen's clue!

A telescope?

Hey!

It's got a star map on the lens.

Hmmm.

There's an arrow pointing to the planet Mars.

It would take a pretty big telescope to see this clearly.

Hmm there are some world-renowned telescopes

here in Hawaii.

The largest optical telescope in the world is

right on top of Mauna Kea!

Correct-a-mundo, Zack.

It's the world famous Keck Telescope and it provides

totally cosmic night time viewing because there's no

city lights at thirteen thousand seven hundred

sixty-nine feet to block out the view!

That's got to be it, Chief!

Hot tip! This just in from Crime Net.

Carmen's henchmen just stole the Menehune Ditch from Kauai!

What? I thought she was after a telescope not a ditch.

It's actually a small canal that legends say was built

by the Hawaiian little people, the Menehune.

Uh, they're not bad luck are they?

Zack, buddy y'know, it's considered very bad luck

to cross a Menehune!

So let's be careful out there. Okay?

Wait wait wait wait wait!

First she steals the Naha Stone.

Now the Menehune Ditch.

I don't see the connection with the Keck Telescope.

Well, whatever the connection is,

I wouldn't want to be Carmen right about now!

'Cause she's really pressing her luck.

Zack!

Maybe you've got something there!

The Naha Stone is a really big lava rock!

And in Hawaii isn't it considered bad luck to

remove a lava stone?

Right! And now the Menehune Ditch!

It's tied to Hawaii's little people.

Who she shouldn't cross unless she wants big trouble.

Well, if Carmen's testing her luck,

what's it got to do with Mars or this telescope?

Player, Info-Scan Mars.

Mars is known as the "Red Planet" because,

well go ahead, look at it!

Duh! It's red!

It's also the fourth planet from the sun.

Oh yeah, and it's named for the Roman god of w*r, Mars.

Wait I read something here about the Hawaiian w*r gods!

It says the most famous was King Kamehameha's w*r god, called

Aileen: Kuka'ilimoku, or Ku for short.

Chief: A statue of Kuka'ilimoku is on display at the Bishop

Museum in Honolulu!

Zack, Ivy!

The Bishop Museum is right next to the planetarium!

It must be Carmen's next target!

Player, C-Five us back to Oahu!

[alarm beeping]

The alarm! We're too late!

Carmen and Hannah!

And they've got Kuka'ilimoku!

She's headed for Waikiki!

I'll call for back up!

They're going around Diamond Head!

[siren]

She's trapped!

Maybe our luck is changing!

[siren]

[tires screeching]

No way!

Look out!

Whoa!

[tire blows]

[crash]

[scream]

Ivy:

Ivy:

[crash]

[scream]

[beep]

Oh no.

This is where we lost Carmen.

She went through this taro patch and into the woods.

Well, at least we know that vehicle of hers can't fly.

Where would she go if she wanted a helicopter to pick her up?

The only safe place to land for miles is the

Nuuanu Pali look out!

It's just up the highway!

Wait a minute the Nuuanu Pali?

Where King Kamehameha won the battle of Oahu?

It's haunted!

That is a local superstition, Zack.

The huaka'i ka po, marchers of the night,

they're supposed to be ghosts of warriors and nobles.

Do you believe it?

Night marchers!

Oh I don't like where this is leading.

Hmm.

Y'know if Carmen is really testing superstitions,

I have an idea!

[birds squawking]

Hannah: Where is that helicopter?!

This place gives me the creeps!

It's supposed to be haunted you know!

Hannah, haven't you learned anything from the items

we've stolen tonight?

I'm trying to show you that your superstitions are a

stumbling block.

Have faith in your talent, not your fear.

We've stolen these supposedly cursed items and

we still haven't been caught, have we?

I guess you're right.

Wha-- Did you hear that?

There you go again!

[moaning]

The torches of the night marchers!

You were wrong Carmen!

Hannah, please, I'm sure there's some reasonable explanation.

[moaning] Carmen! Hannah!

More ghosts! And they're flying!

Hannah, that's our helicopter pick-up.

Now pull yourself together.

[helicopter approaching]

Carmen! Hannah!

Let's get to the chopper!

Hurry! Abibi!

Carmen! Hannah!

You're both under arrest!

I guess your luck is changing, Zack.

We captured Carmen twice in one day.

Nice way to turn the tables, detectives,

but I'm afraid this isn't your lucky night!

Hey!

Get her!

She leapt over the cliff!

Ho-ho! Look what Carmen dropped, it's my lucky rabbit's foot!

She had it all along!

There's a note.

"Zack, you need this more than I do, Carmen."

You guys sure looked funny all covered with poi!

Yeah, but it almost worked.

It was nice of Matt to loan us all his TV equipment,

and rig up that k*ller sound system.

But one thing I don't understand, Zack.

Why did you give your rabbit's foot to Hannah?

Yeah, are you gonna give up being superstitious now?

Nope.

I finally bought this lucky Hawaiian ti plant,

and I swear I'll never go anywhere without it.

Cute. But it's gonna be hard

to fit that on a key chain, little bro.

Okay, agents, this vacation is officially over!

With Carmen on the loose, we can't just sit around

watching poi dry!

Hop to it!

Let's go, let's go, let's go!

But Chief, we're here in Hawaii.

Think about the possibilities.

Like snorkeling, hiking, surfing,

or just lying on the beach.

Chief! Look out! -Huh? Oof!

The Naha Stone moved him!

Does that mean it gets to be the next chief?

Oh, funny, it's just very funny! Yeah.

[laughing]
