07x04 - What a Gaucho You Are

Post by bunniefuu »

- [Phil] Previously on "The Amazing Race,"

nine teams set out from Santiago, Chile,

and raced to Mendoza, Argentina.

- We're gonna go with you.

- [Phil] Rob and Amber stole Debbie and Bianca's cab.

- That'll teach 'em for accusing somebody of lying.

Ha ha ha ha!

- Debbie, do you see the cab?

- [Debbie] No.

- [Phil] But Debbie and Bianca's problems

were just beginning.

- This is absolutely gorgeous,

but we got major problems.

[speaking in foreign language]

[gasping]

What, no.

- [Phil] Teams enjoyed a breathtaking drive

through the Andes.

- [Deana] When I think of heaven, this is what I think of.

- Wow, this is incredible.

- [Phil] On the detour,

Brian and Greg lost momentum.

- A flat tire.

- [Phil] While their competition paddled past.

- No!

Are you kidding me?

- Aaaaah!

- [Phil] A roadblock challenged teams

to eat four pounds of beef.

[coughing]

Rob struggled.

- I'm never gonna be able to eat it all.

I quit,

I'm done.

After four hours, we get the clue.

- [Phil] And rolled the dice

that other teams would take the four-hour penalty.

- I can't do this.

- I'm finished.

- This was a good idea.

- This was a good idea.

- [Phil] Patrick wanted to give up.

- This could be it.

It could be over.

- [Phil] And last place Debbie gorged to the finish.

- [Bianca] Go, swallow it.

- Hell of an aftertaste.

- But in the end, it wasn't enough.

You're the last team to arrive.

You've both been eliminated from the race.

Now, eight teams remain.

Who will be eliminated next?

["Amazing Race" theme song]

This is Mendoza,

a lush farm community in western Argentina.

On the outskirts of the city,

Estancia San Isidro.

This traditional ranch was the third pit stop

in a race around the world.

Teams arrived here at the end of the last leg

for a mandatory rest period.

Can Susan and Patrick find a way to climb out of last place?

And will Rob and Amber's unorthodox strategy

continue to alienate the other teams?

Lynn and Alex, who were first to arrive at : P.M.

- Whoo!

Hah!

- [Phil] Will depart at : A.M.

- Drive yourself to Lunlunta.

- [Phil] Teams must now drive themselves miles

to the small town of Lunlunta.

Once there, they'll have to find this ranch

[cow mooing]

known as Cabana la Guatana,

to find their next clue.

- Let's go.

- [Lynn] On the last leg,

Alex and I wanted to b*at Rob and Amber especially.

- [Alex] Not only did we b*at Amber and Rob,

we have a huge, huge advantage.

And we earned that advantage.

We're determined to keep our lead.

- I want some money.

- [Alex] I mean, we'll just be first to win it today.

- Oh, sure, let's just do that.

- Drive yourselves to Lunlunta.

- Let's do it.

Joyce and I are in second place, and we're excited,

but to continue to move forward,

we have to support each other

and just keep f*ring on all pistons.

On the road again, babycakes.

- [Alex] All the other teams are still hours behind us.

- [Lynn] Hopefully we can get on a plane

and really secure our lead.

Because that's where the great divides are made.

[horns honking]

I'll run you off the road, beyatch.

- [Joyce] .

- No, that's miles an hour.

It's like giving birth, man,

trying to find directions.

- We have bucks for this race.

- .

- All right, let's do it. - Let's go.

- Kelly and I don't have a long-term alliance

with anyone at all.

Coming from the m*llitary,

you're used to being able to trust people.

But this is completely different,

because you can't trust anyone.

Let's go.

We got to hurry up.

- [Greg] Let's follow Ron and Kelly.

Brian and I feel awesome

about coming from last place to third place.

We really don't have any doubts

that we can make it first to the finish line.

Today's mission, no mistakes.

- [Brian] No mistakes.

[dramatic music]

- [Deana] This is it.

- We're the first ones here, honey.

- Let's go.

I want to read it, I want to read it.

- [Lynn] It opens at :, and it's :.

- Okay, so we just wait here for minutes.

- [Joyce] Come on, let's go.

We're looking for Cabana la Guatana.

- It's three kilometers.

- It's close?

- Yes. - Gracias.

- What does this mean?

Lujan, that thing?

- [Ron] I have no idea.

I don't read Spanish.

- [Kelly] You're supposed to be navigating.

- We're headed the right direction.

Relax, everything is fine.

- [Brian] Wow, look at those mountains, dude.

- [Greg] It's ridiculous.

- [Brian] It's summertime here.

- [Greg] This weather is awesome.

- Ah, gracias.

- Gracias.

- Cabana la Guatana.

Oh, my gosh, this looks like it's gonna be horses.

Roadblock.

- [Both] Who's ready to horse around?

- A roadblock is a task that only one person may perform.

In this roadblock that person has to participate

in a traditional gaucho challenge.

They must ride a horse around a series of barrels.

Then, using a stick, spear this ring.

If they can do it in seconds or less,

the competitive time for an Argentine cowboy,

they'll receive their next clue.

- Oh god.

- [Alex] I've ridden horses before,

but doing it fast is a whole different thing.

- [Man] Pick a helmet.

- [Alex] Oh, it's so pretty.

- Okay, let's go.

- You have $ for this leg of the race.

- bucks. - Let's go.

Can we switch cars with someone that has more gas?

- [Amber] Can't do that.

- [Rob] Amber and I ended up in fifth place

because I had to take a penalty,

but I like to be under pressure.

It makes me do better.

It gives me an edge.

- [Amber] Now we have to catch up

to the other four teams,

and then pass them up, and come in first.

- [Joyce] That's it.

- [Uchenna] Only one car here.

- Come on, baby.

This is a roadblock.

Who's ready to horse around?

I've been on a horse before.

- [Uchenna] Okay, babe, you got it.

- Who's good?

Who's good?

Anybody?

Oh, that looks big.

Big horse.

Is this a nice horse?

Ah, this one.

- [Lynn] It's okay.

The horses have done this a million times, Alex.

Alex, there's no way I would

have been able to do this.

You'll be all right.

Deep voice and hard kicks.

Oh, good horsey.

- [Alex] Lynn, over there.

- Go. - You got it, Alex.

- [Alex] Go, go, go!

This way, good!

Hey, hey. - Faster!

Keep going, Alex!

Faster, Alex.

- [Alex] Go, go, go, go, go.

- [Lynn] Pronto.

Okay, the ring.

Alex, that was so close.

You missed it by one second.

- [Alex] All right, one more time.

- [Lynn] Has she got on her horse yet?

- [Uchenna] There you go!

You're a good rider, so no worries.

- [Alex] Go, go, go!

Yes, yes!

- [Lynn] Oh yeah, you're getting it, Alex.

You're going fast.

- [Uchenna] You're pulling back.

Don't pull back, sweetie.

- [Alex] Yes!

Yes, go!

- Kick him! - Go, go, go!

- [Uchenna] Don't pull on the reins so hard.

- [Lynn] Oh, my god!

- [Alex] Go!

- [Uchenna] You all right?

- Yes.

Can I pick another horse?

- No.

- [Uchenna] Man, this sucks.

- Go, go!

All right!

Did we? - Yes!

- Oh, yes! - Yes!

Okay, Alex, get off.

Come on, come one, come on.

- Fly to the city of Buenos Aires.

- [Phil] Teams must now drive themselves miles

to Mendoza Airport,

where they can take one of two available flights

to Buenos Aires.

The first departs at : A.M.

And the second leaves five hours later at : P.M.

When they land, they must travel by taxi to this tower.

Once there, they must find this man,

who will give them their next clue.

- Let's go, baby.

Oh, my god, her horse is crazy.

- [Alex] We have to get to the airport.

We're on the :.

- Alex, you did so good.

I was worried.

Joyce got bucked off and thrown on the ground.

[tense music]

- Good job.

Let him take you on there.

There you go, good job.

Here we go, come on home!

Whoo!

Try the ring, try the ring.

The horse is just too wild.

Baby, you all right?

- [Joyce] Yeah.

- [Uchenna] You were doing it.

- [Joyce] I know.

- He's just a little bit skittish.

We need to get out of here before the next team gets here.

[tense music]

- [Kelly] This is our exit, Ron.

- Is that it?

No, no, no, I don't know.

- [Greg] Where are they going?

- [Brian] Are they going South, Greg?

- Yeah, we should be going south.

Let's just run this out for a while.

- [Kelly] Brian and Greg kept going on the highway.

So now we're separated.

This is it right here.

Come on, come on.

Who's ready to horse around?

I'll do it.

- I got to eat crap yesterday.

She gets to ride a horse.

I just want y'all to know that.

- [Uchenna] I'm so proud of you, girl.

- [Joyce] Okay.

- There you go, babe.

I know she's scared out of her mind.

She's gonna get this.

She's gonna overcome it.

I know her competitive nature's gonna take over.

Good job!

Now bring him around!

There's another team coming, damn it.

Who wants to go home?

Giddyup, giddyup!

Giddyup!

Giddyup, yeah!

Yeah!

- Whoo!

- [Uchenna] Good job.

Whoa, whoa, whoa!

Let's not quit yet.

- Get runnin', baby.

- You are amazing!

- Buenos Aires. - Yes!

We can make the : flight.

- [Joyce] Okay, cool.

- Maybe we were already too far south.

It might be back there.

I'm gonna have to whip it around on this highway.

We've gone too far.

Dang it.

- [Amber] Go right here.

- I can't go right here.

- [Amber] This is the first time

we've been lost the entire race.

- I've got no clue.

I have literally no clue.

I hate bein' lost.

[tense music]

- [Ron] Get him going, baby.

There you go.

Keep him going!

- [Kelly] Yeah, this is what I like right here.

- [Ron] There you go, keep him going.

- Go, go, go, come on, come on, come on.

- [Ron] Come on, baby.

You got it.

All right, get the stick.

There you go.

- [Man] seconds.

- Whoo!

- Good job, babe.

- Fly to the city of Buenos Aires.

- Come on, let's go.

- [Brian] This is Ron and Kelly right here.

You guys already get the clue?

- Yeah.

- Good job, guys.

- Brian and Greg weren't angry.

They were probably just more disappointed

that we were all right here together

and then missed it.

- [Brian] Darn it.

- It's all right.

Roadblock.

Who's ready to horse around?

- Look at you.

Let's do it, B.

[tense music]

- Okay, let's go.

We need two tickets to Buenos Aires at :.

I'm so glad we got on this flight.

- Come on.

Andale, andale!

- [Greg] You're cruising!

Good job, B.

- [Brian] Whoa!

- Good job, B!

Bring it back.

You've got plenty of time.

Just grab that circle.

Easy does it, cowboy.

Now slow it up.

You got it.

- [Man] . seconds.

- Good job, B.

- Fly to the city of Buenos Aires.

- Let's do this.

Mendoza Airport. - Yes.

[tense music]

- [Joyce] What time is it?

- [Uchenna] :.

- We would like-- - Buenos Aires.

- Buenos Aires.

- [Uchenna] At :.

Okay.

Thank you.

Right now we're looking at being hours ahead

of many of the other teams.

[tense music]

- Drive yourselves to Lunlunta.

Let's go.

Deana and I took a big penalty the last leg.

And now we're stuck at the back of the pack

with the bottom feeders,

and I don't want to be associated

with the teams of that caliber.

I feel embarrassed to be where we are right now.

Get out of the way!

We gotta b*at the old people.

[tense music]

- We're team five.

Let's go.

Meredith and I are competing with young people,

and it's quite a challenge to keep up with them,

but we're still in it.

Be careful of animals.

- Drive yourselves to Lunlunta.

- Let's go.

Being in last place has motivated Patrick and I more.

If you figure you're last,

you give up somewhere along the way.

And we'll never give up.

- [Patrick] I'd like to catch up with some people.

- [Rob] Where are we?

- [Amber] I have no idea, honey.

- [Rob] There's a sign.

Cabana la Guatana.

It's up here in meters.

- We just happened to stumble on the place.

- Let's go.

- Somebody was watching over us, that's for sure.

- [Rob] Roadblock.

- Who's ready to horse around?

- [Rob] I'll do it.

- Have you ridden a horse before?

- Yeah.

- [Amber] Good enough, baby.

[tense music]

- Whoo!

It is : A.M.

- [Kelly] We have a reservation on the :.

- No problem.

- Thank you.

- [Rob] This is what I call stealth.

Okay.

Hyah, go!

- Go, baby!

Hurry up.

I don't think this is gonna take very long at all.

Good job, baby!

- Hyah!

Hyah, hyah!

Whoa, whoa, whoa!

- Perfect.

- Okay. - You did it!

- Yay!

- [Amber] Whoo!

Baby, that was easy.

- [Rob] 'Cause I'm a professional horse rider.

- You look cute on a horse, babe.

- Fly to the city of Buenos Aires.

The flight is at :.

What time is it?

- [Amber] Nine o'clock.

- Come on. - We have to hurry.

- Hopefully, we can get on the : A.M. flight.

- [Greg] Airport's to the right.

- [Brian] Numero four, baby.

- [Greg] Let's do it.

We have a flight to Buenos Aires at :.

- [Brian] What time is it, :?

- :.

Let's hope nobody else gets on the plane.

- There's no way.

- If we caught up to the other four teams

after taking a four-hour penalty,

they would die!

That would mean they went through

all that suffering for nothing.

- Who cares about any of them?

- They hate the fact that we're doing well.

- The other teams love us.

They're striving to be like us.

On a good day, maybe.

- [Lynn] We all had to check our luggage,

because the plane was too small.

No big deal because we're so far ahead of the other teams.

- [Alex] And we're not quitters.

- Everyone ate the meat.

I'm exhausted.

- [Kelly] It just goes to show,

that if you want to win this race,

you can't give up on anything.

That's why we're on the first flight.

Let's go.

[tense music]

- There's a chance we can get on this flight.

Let's go.

I hope it's still here.

:.

Please, please.

- [Amber] Can we get on the :?

- Si.

- [Amber] Thank you so much.

- Very nice people.

They're holding the flight for us.

- [Attendant] Here's your boarding pass.

- Rob and amber didn't make it.

- I'm so excited they didn't make it.

Survive that.

- It's funny how we go from fifth to first all the time.

- Oh, I can't wait to see the look on their face!

[tense music]

Oh, I can't wait to see the look on their face!

- [Ron] No freaking way!

That's horse crap.

- [Rob] Ron, how is your stomach?

- [Kelly] Rob's strategy to quit worked,

and that makes me sick.

- [Lynn] If that had been any other team,

they would have literally gotten an applause.

But the fact that it was Rob and Amber,

it was just terrible.

- I hate them.

I hate them so much.

- By the skin of our teeth.

- Yeah.

- Keep on driving forward and see if we find anything.

- [Ray] There's a flag.

Deana, come on.

- Here.

- [Rob] Good job.

- [Both] Roadblock.

- Who's ready to horse around?

- I'll do it.

- [Ray] Go ahead, you do it.

Good luck, Deana.

- [Deana] Gracias.

- [Meredith] Look at this kid.

He's out here earning a living.

- [Gretchen] Paying for his college.

Oh, god bless them.

- Drive south on Highway ,

also known as [indistinct].

What is that clown doing?

- [Susan] I don't know but he's in my way.

[horn honking]

- [Patrick] If there was ever a time you wanted permission

to run over a clown.

[tense music]

- Deana, you'll be fine.

I think she'll do it in a time or two

and we'll be on our way.

Kick hard, Deana.

- [Deana] Ray, I'm trying.

- [Ray] Got to be faster, babe.

- [Deana] He's not going, Ray.

Go!

Damn it!

- [Ray] These are horses.

You've got to do it the right way.

Yours isn't broken.

He doesn't need new batteries.

- You think it's easy?

There's nothing I can do.

- [Ray] We're gonna get eliminated over horse riding.

[tense music]

- [Gretchen] Well, there's one there.

- All right hon, let's go!

It's riding horses.

Okay, I'll ride.

[tense music]

- [Ray] Make him run, it's too slow.

- Shut up, Ray!

I'm kicking hard as I can.

He's not doing nothing.

- [Ray] Well, then talk to him, yell at him.

Hold the reins--

- What the hell am I gonna say to a horse?

- [Ray] I'm not babying you anymore.

Get mad at the horse.

I mean it. - I am.

- No. - It's hard.

- [Ray] You want to quit and go home?

- No. - Then get mad at the horse.

- Go away from me.

- [Ray] It's the oldsters.

- [Deana] Damn it.

- [Ray] We're wasting time.

- [Gretchen] Go close to the barrel, hon.

- Come on, Deana.

- Hah, hey, hunh!

- [Gretchen] seconds.

- Hyah, hah! - Go!

- [Gretchen] Hurry.

- [Ray] That's it, Deana, that's it, Deana.

Turn him now.

- [Gretchen] Good, good!

- [Ray] Make him gallop.

Keep him going, keep him going.

- [Meredith] Good, good, come on,.

- Come on, old boy!

- [Ray] Turn him!

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, come on.

Come on, Deana, come on, Deana.

Come on, Deana. - Aah!

My foot fell out.

- [Ray] Dammit, Deana, don't give up.

- [Gretchen] The ring, the ring, the ring!

Ho!

Whoopie!

- Thank you very, very much.

- Oh, what a gaucho you are!

What a gaucho!

- Fly to Buenos Aires.

Let's go.

- [Gretchen] Whoo!

- [Meredith] We got to go from Mendoza.

- Poor Deana, she's not making the horse go fast enough.

[tense music]

- Go! - Go.

- If he stops, get madder.

- [Deana] Go, go!

Oh, lord, please.

- Deana, make him run! - Go, go!

Damn it, go!

Ray, I can't do this.

Aah.

Go! - God!

[tense music]

- [Patrick] Ah, Cabana la Guatana.

- [Susan] Come on.

- In here.

Who's ready to horse around?

Do you want me to?

- Sure. - I will.

- [Deana] Go!

Ow, my leg is getting cut.

- [Ray] Deana, I understand one thing,

and you need to understand it, too.

You either stay up there on the horse, or we go home.

You're not yelling at him.

Yell at the horse. - Yes I am.

- I don't even hear you.

- [Deana] There's Susan and Patrick.

- Patrick is weak.

Deana, come on.

- The hardest part is kicking the horse

and getting him to go.

- [Ray] This strap is what's getting to it?

- [Deana] Yeah.

Let me take my shirt off. - Take your shirt off.

I'll put it on this leg.

Then we'll get out of here.

Let's get out of here.

You're better than Patrick, come on.

- [Patrick] All right, let's go.

- Ready? - Yeah.

Go!

Hyah, hyah!

Go, go!

- [Ray] That's it, Deana, that's it, Deana!

- Go!

Go!

- Go, go, go!

- [Ray] Come on!

Come on, Deana!

Don't stop him here, don't stop him here.

Bring it home, you got it!

- [Susan] Go, go, go!

Go, go, go!

- [Ray] Hit him!

Hit him harder!

- Go, go!

- [Ray] Get the ring, Deana.

Yes!

That's a three.

Come here.

I'm so proud of you.

- He's not being aggressive enough.

He's gotta give that horse hell.

- [Patrick] .

All right, did she get it?

- Yeah.

- Find the man in the raincoat.

He'll hand you the next clue.

- Holy crap, that was hard.

- We need to go to the airporto.

We need to stop screwing around and start moving up.

I'm not a back-of-the-pack person.

I won't accept that, period.

- My legs are k*lling me.

- You don't even have your feet in the stirrups.

- [Patrick] Hey, Mom, let's try being quiet

while I'm doing this.

I need to concentrate.

- If you can get him at a fast pace,

let's start back here further.

- It's easy for you to say, Mom.

It doesn't help at all to hear your mom nagging at you

while you're trying to do this.

- [Susan] I was gonna help you by yelling.

- Mom.

I want you to stop before we have an embarrassing moment.

Come on, come on, come on!

- Go, go, go!

He's galloping.

He's going.

Hurry, Patrick!

You got it!

Go, go, go!

Stay close to the barrels.

Go, go, go!

- [Patrick] We got it, come on!

- [Susan] Go, go, go!

- [Man] Okay, seconds.

- [Patrick] It is?

- Yay!

Come on, let's go, go, go!

Fly to--

- The city of Buenos Aires.

- My crotch hurts!

We have to drive to the airport.

Our flight to Buenos Aires

is scheduled to depart at :.

Boy, those other teams got a good head start.

[tense music]

- [Rob] Our bags are gonna be out first.

See you at the finish.

Come on, babe.

[Rob speaking Spanish]

Let's go!

We're back out ahead, huh?

- [Brian] Lock and load, baby, lock and load.

[men speaking Spanish]

- Yeah. - Si, gracias.

- [Kelly] Taxi, taxi.

- Over there. - Thank you!

Okay.

Rapido, rapido, por favor.

- [Uchenna] Taxi.

Come on, hon.

[Joyce speaking Spanish]

- All right, here we go.

- Alex, taxi.

Muy, muy rapido.

Million dollars

race. - Yes.

[tense music]

- [Amber] Find the man in the raincoat.

- Okay, aqui, aqui.

Grab the clue.

We'll get the bags after.

- [Amber] Hurry, hurry.

- Right there.

Thank you.

Make your way by train to the city of Tigre.

- [Phil] Teams must now travel by train nearly miles

to the city of Tigre.

Once there, they must find these docks

located at Lavalle to find their next clue.

- Let's go.

This is the train that goes to Tigre?

[man speaking Spanish] - [Rob] Come on, come on.

[tense music]

What time does the train leave?

- [Amber] In minutes.

[tense music]

- Gracias.

Mr. Raincoat.

Train station right here. - Let's go.

- [Kelly] Great, great, thank you.

- Whoo-hoo! - Gracias.

The city of Tigre.

- [Ron] There's the train.

[tense music]

- We made it. - Sweet.

- [Ron] Come on, Kelly.

It's great to be here, finally.

- Which one?

- That tower right there.

Wait, wait here. - Okay.

[Alex speaking Spanish]

- Senor. - Gracias.

- [Lynn] Do you have a clue for us?

[Alex speaking Spanish]

- Make your way to the train.

- To the city of Tigre.

- Okay. - Let's get back to the--

Let's do it.

- Let's do it, let's go.

- [Joyce] We got to go.

Is this it?

- [Uchenna] This is it.

- [Lynn] To your right.

- [Alex] Okay, perfecto.

- [Lynn] This is so exciting.

We're racing to be first.

So it's way more fun

then racing to be last.

[tense music]

- [Gretchen] Here's the airport.

- [Meredith] All right, let's go.

- [Gretchen] We would like the : flight.

- Yes. - Thank you very much.

[tense music]

- [Ray] Let's go, babe.

[indistinct]

- [Gretchen] It's Ray and Deana.

- [Ray] We have reservations to go to Buenos Aires.

Thank you very, very much.

- Okay, let's go.

- [Patrick] Hey.

- [Gretchen] We're still here.

The menage a trois.

- [Susan] Oh, tickets to Buenos Aires.

Great, we're all even again.

- [Attendant] This is your boarding pass.

- [Gretchen] We're all gonna be starting

from the same playing field

and racing against each other,

and one of us will be eliminated.

[tense music]

- [Ray] Deana and I are on the : flight to Buenos Aires

with an old couple and people that weigh a buck .

I don't want to be at the back of the pack,

and I'm going to make sure we don't stay here.

[tense music]

- [Alex] Donde esta the dock in Tigre?

- [Passenger] Here.

[Alex speaking Spanish]

- [Lynn] Come up to the front of the train

so nobody sees.

I don't want anyone to see on the map.

[tense music]

We're in the front of the train.

We can get off first.

Is anybody coming?

Oh, my god.

Damn it.

- [Rob] Just go right up to the front.

- [Alex] Lynn and I just don't talk to Rob and Amber.

- [Lynn] The bottom line is they're kind of like an S.T.D.

You got to protect yourself from them,

and the only way you can do it

is just keep yourself away from them.

[tense music]

- [Alex] All right, let's go.

- [Amber] We have to hurry.

- [Rob] Come on, babe, let's follow them.

- [Kelly] Let's go.

- [Joyce] Uchenna, let's go.

- [Alex] Where is it?

- [Lynn] It's right over the water.

- [Rob] Straight across, babe.

- [Lynn] Come on, Alex, there it is.

- [Uchenna] Which way did everybody go?

Did you notice?

- [Joyce] No, we gotta find the docks.

- [Lynn] Alex, come on!

- [Rob] Come on, babe.

It's right up here.

Detour.

- Shipwreck or island.

- A detour is a choice between two tasks,

each with its own pros and cons.

In this detour, teams have to choose

between two difficult searches.

The choice,

shipwreck

or island.

In shipwreck, teams search a seven-square mile area

filled with abandoned ships for this shipwreck.

Their only reference is a -year-old picture.

When teams find the shipwreck,

they'll receive their next clue.

In island, teams use a map and travel four miles

through the waterways of the delta

to the San Antonio River and find this island.

When they find it,

they must run onto the beach to receive their next clue.

- So we're gonna search for the island.

- Marked on the map with a red star.

- Yeah, let's do that.

- [Rob] The ship might be easier to find.

- [Amber] I say the boat.

- [Rob] Okay, let's go.

Do you speak English?

- Yes, more or less.

- [Rob] More or less, okay.

- [Alex] Okay, grab a life vest, go on.

- [Rob] Okay, can we go faster?

[tense music]

- Ha ha, this is so fun!

Did the other teams even find it yet?

[tense music]

- [Joyce] Where's the docks?

- We gotta go over the water.

- Over the bridge, okay.

- [Uchenna] We went the wrong way.

- Where's the dock? - The dock?

- You have to cross the bridge over there.

- Gracias. - Gracias, gracias.

Hurry, Ron.

[tense music]

[Brian speaking Spanish]

[man speaking Spanish]

- Dude, we're wasting time.

- Okay. - We're wasting time.

- [Greg] Who's that?

- [Brian] Rob and Amber.

Let's go!

- What's your name?

- [Carlos] Carlos.

- Carlos, Rob.

- [Lynn] This way.

[Lynn speaking Spanish]

- [Amber] Hey babe, let's start lookin' at these boats.

Here's the picture.

We don't think it's that one.

[Lynn speaking Spanish]

- [Lynn] Please.

So we're gonna pass them.

Perfecto, perfecto.

Left, left, left.

- Go the other way.

- [Alex] Amber and Rob are going the other way.

- [Lynn] Okay, good.

I just detest them.

[tense music]

- Come on, baby, we found it.

Okay, we shipwreck.

All right, babe, let's do it.

We're looking for a shipwreck.

It could be be anywhere in here.

[tense music]

- [Ron] Across the street.

- [Brian] It's Ron and Kelly.

Dang it, they b*at us.

- [Ron] Okay, which one do you want?

- [Kelly] Island.

- [Ron] Okay.

- [Greg] Let's go look for ship.

- [Kelly] Ron, let's go.

- Let's go. - We gotta pass them.

Burn, baby, burn!

That sucks that they b*at us out.

- Let's go right.

Let's get out and go right.

We're looking for a shipwreck.

- We have a map, we're out in the bayou,

and we're looking for this island.

- [Kelly] To the island.

[tense music]

- [Lynn] Now does it show an island going that way?

- [Alex] Oh, yeah, it does show an island.

- We're totally getting there.

I feel confident.

All we need to do is get to San Antonio.

[tense music]

- Holy cannoli!

Our boat just cracked in half.

[Carlos speaking in Spanish]

- One's saying, "Go back,"

the other's saying, "Let's go."

I'm with Carlos, let's go!

[tense music]

- [Lynn] What's happening?

Oy, oy, oy, oy, oy.

- [Alex] I don't know what's going on.

- [Lynn] There's water in the boat.

Oh my god, my shoes are getting wet.

- [Alex] At least Amber and Rob are nowhere in sight.

[tense music]

- [Rob] Is that it?

- [Amber] No, that's not it.

- [Rob] In the next inlet, we're gonna go in there.

- Yeah? - Yeah.

- [Amber] We want to go in there.

- Check it out over here.

There it is.

That's it.

Hey, it's the old man and the sea!

Thanks, buddy.

Make your way back to the shore and travel by taxi

to the next pit stop.

- [Phil] Teams must now travel miles by taxi

and find this place, La Martina,

located in the town of Vicente Casares.

This polo club, the most prestigious in Argentina,

is the pit stop for this leg of the race.

The last team to check in here may be eliminated.

- We'll go back. - We go back.

- [Rob] We got lucky, real lucky.

- [Amber] Let's hope our boat makes it.

[tense music]

- [Lynn] Why are we going so slow?

- [Alex] The motor is literally falling off of the side

and our boat is filling with water.

- [Lynn] This is so ridiculous.

- [Alex] I just want a new boat.

[man speaking Spanish]

- [Lynn] This sucks.

[tense music]

- I don't see anything out here.

- We have a picture of the boat,

what it looked like years ago.

A needle in a haystack.

[tense music]

- [Brian] That's not it.

- What about there, B?

B?

- Yeah, that's it, that's it.

That's totally it.

- Ahoy!

- Pit stop. - Yeah!

- Good job, though, brother.

- [Greg] Oh, yeah, dude.

[tense music]

- [Rob] We're trying to get back to the dock,

but we have to go really slow

'cause our boat is still cracked.

- [Brian] Let's go, we've gotta speed up.

- There we go!

We got speed!

- Carlos was kind enough to help us out,

so I decided I gotta give him a little bit of me.

There's nothing better than a Red Sox hat.

Full of water but we made it.

Thank you, Carlos, very much.

- [Amber] Catch a taxi.

- [Rob] I see the brothers.

- You're a good driver. - Thank you.

Let's grab a cab and get out of here.

- Right here's the taxi.

We don't got time to mess around.

We're going to the pit stop.

[Rob speaking Spanish]

- Taxi!

We're going to the pit stop.

- Good job finding that boat.

[tense music]

- Can they tow us?

- [Phil] If a vehicle breaks down

through no fault of the team,

the rule is a replacement vehicle may be given to the team.

However, no time credit

will be given for this unlucky situation.

- [Lynn] We've got our new boat.

- [Alex] Thank god!

[tense music]

- I don't see anything.

I don't see any boats in front of us.

- Let me see the picture.

I just want to get the image in my mind.

- This is Rio San Antonio.

You gotta go up here and take a left.

I see it, it's right there.

Whoo-hoo!

- Come on, honey.

Travel by taxi to the next pit stop.

Whoo!

- Look over there.

There's a clue, there's the--

- This is the island.

That's the island, right?

- [Uchenna] We started off looking for the shipwreck,

and we found Star Island.

Travel by taxi to the next pit stop.

- Okay, we're going.

- [Uchenna] We gotta go back to the dock.

- [Lynn] Is that San Antonio?

Yes, this is Rio San Antonio, Alex.

- [Alex] Yay, muy bueno.

- [Lynn] There's a flag!

- Travel by taxi to the next pit stop.

Take me back!

- [Alex] We had a terrible day.

- Gracias, compadre.

There's a taxi right over there.

Let's go.

- Thank you, sir.

Come on.

Here's a taxi coming.

- [Joyce] He has somebody in it.

- We gotta do something and do it quick.

- [Both] Gracias.

- Taxi, over here, Lynn, over here.

La Martina Polo ranch.

- Okay, let's go.

God, I hope he knows where he's going.

- [Alex] I know.

[horns honking]

- [Joyce] Taxi!

[Joyce speaking Spanish]

[Uchenna speaking Spanish]

- Oh, my god!

I'm telling you, we just get lucky.

Luck has always been on my side.

It was like I was born with a horse shoe

right up my ass.

- Every day, we're moving up,

and we should be jumping on the mat first today.

- Fine with me.

[tense music]

- Welcome to Argentina.

- Thank you. - Thank you.

- Rob and Amber,

you're team number one.

- Yes! - Ha ha!

- Yes!

Good job. - Yeah.

- And there is some good news.

[cheering]

- Yeah!

- You've won a trip for two from Travelocity to London,

staying five nights at the Landmark,

a luxury hotel in the heart of the city, including airfare.

And you can enjoy that after the race.

- All right!

- Yesterday, people were doubting your strategy.

They were doubting what you were doing.

- Everybody thought for sure that

we made a mistake when Rob decided to quit,

and it didn't hurt us at all.

That's two trips down,

two first places down,

more to come.

- [Brian] Here we go.

Hola. - Hola.

- Brian and Greg,

you're team number two.

- Yes!

- Second place.

That's awesome.

- Moving up the ladder.

[tense music]

- [Ron] This is totally frustrating,

and Pokey is taking his time.

People are passing us like we're going still.

- Uh-oh.

- Uh-oh.

- [Lynn] Is he out of gas

or does he not know where he's going?

Oh, no! - Oh no!

- [Lynn] Wait, wait, wait.

- Oh, no!

[tense music]

- This guy is muy rapido.

Maybe we made up a couple of minutes

that we wasted looking for those cabs.

[tense music]

- [Uchenna] Come on now.

- Uchenna and Joyce.

- Yes?

- You're team number three.

- Whoo!

- Good job!

[tense music]

- [Both] Yay!

- [Ron] It's our favorite man.

- Ron and Kelly,

you're team number four.

- Somebody b*at us in. - Yeah.

[tense music]

- Stop. - Stop, stop, stop.

- [Lynn] Come on, Alex!

What are you doing?

- Lynn and Alex,

team number five.

[both sighing]

- [Lynn] We could have won today.

- We got this. - We knew where we were going.

- The suckiest boat ever.

- What are you going to do?

Luck is part of the game.

- [Susan] Taxis right out here.

- Uh-uh, not that way.

Come on. - This way.

- [Patrick] Let's go this way.

- Taxi!

Very fast.

Yes.

Very fast. - Taxi!

- The kids with the cab in the back b*at us.

- He can't help,

he's having his coffee, for god's sake!

- There's no way I'm losing to them.

There a couple decades beyond where they need to be.

- Whee!

So we're in Buenos Aires!

[Patrick speaking Spanish]

- We're in a competition.

- We have two teams behind us

that are two of the weakest teams here.

It would especially hurt to lose

and be eliminated to one of these two.

I won't allow it.

- [Ron] This is the clock?

- [Deana] Where's the clock?

- He brought us to the hotel.

No, not the hotel, no, we need to go here.

[driver speaking Spanish]

- [Ron] Can you take us right there?

[driver speaking Spanish]

- There's the clock.

- [Meredith] Where's the guy with the raincoat?

[Gretchen speaking Spanish]

- [Gretchen] Hope he doesn't walk away.

- Gracias. - Gracias.

- Make your way to the city of Tigre.

- [Gretchen] Train station.

I hope this is the right station.

Tigre.

: it leaves.

Oh, three more minutes.

[tense music]

- This is it.

Come on, Deana.

Got something for us, gracias.

Come on.

Make your by train to the city of Tigre.

Let's go, babe, we got this.

- Come on, come on.

Vamos.

- [Ray] Gretchen and Meredith.

Damn.

[tense music]

[driver speaking Spanish]

- Thank you!

There he is.

Gracias. - Gracias.

- Make your way by train to the city of Tigre.

Let's just go to the train station.

[tense music]

[whistle blows]

- [Deana] Ray, we're leaving.

[tense music]

- [Gretchen] Patrick and Susan didn't get here.

We may have a one up for the first time in our life.

- [Susan] What's the city?

- [Patrick] Tigre.

- They couldn't have gotten here before us.

- [Patrick] Come on, come on, come on, nobody show up.

Close the doors.

- [Patrick] Please close the doors.

- Hopefully they're not on here.

[tense music]

Maybe that'll just put us two spots up ahead, you know?

- Yeah.

- [Patrick] We feel so good about ourselves

'cause the other teams did not make this train,

and so we think we have a little lead on everybody.

- Patrick and Susan

did not get on the train that we did,

and we should be ahead of them.

[Gretchen laughing]

- Come on.

[tense music]

- [Deana] Where do we go?

- [Ray] Let's go, babe.

I think we're gonna walk.

- All right, let's go.

There's a taxi right over there.

- [Gretchen] Lavalle.

- So far, so great.

- [Ray] Come on, Deana, quick!

Lavalle.

- [Man] This is .

- Okay, gracias.

We need to find it.

- Ready?

- Mm-hmm.

Down here, there must be something.

- [Susan] I see boats.

[tense music]

- Bueno.

Here we are.

- Gracias.

Ooh!

- All right.

Detour.

- We'll take the island.

[tense music]

- Cross here?

- [Deana] We sure we're going the right way?

- [Ray] I don't know.

- [Patrick] I bet that's it.

Oh, Meredith and Gretchen are here.

I thought that we were ahead.

- Oh, there's Patrick and his mom.

- [Patrick] There's the clue box.

- [Susan] Is Ray here?

- [Patrick] I don't know.

- Look.

- [Deana] Who's on it?

- Meredith and-- - Nah-uh!

- Yes, they are.

Come on, Deana.

- Do you want to do island?

- [Susan] I think we should.

- The island marked on a map with a red star.

Wanna do that?

- [Deana] Yeah, let's do that.

- [Susan] We need to figure out which way to go.

- [Ray] We need to b*at these guys.

[tense music]

- Hang on.

Maybe this is San Antonio going to the right, huh?

[tense music]

- [Patrick] We have to find the island.

- [Susan] We're going the right way.

- [Patrick] Oh no, it's dying.

- [Susan] Oh no.

- [Patrick] Aw, our boat's dying.

This sucks.

[tense music]

- [Susan] We're dead in the water.

- [Patrick] We already know we're in last place.

That was the end of Patrick and Susan.

- Keep looking, babe.

Just keep your eye open on the sides for the flag.

- [Gretchen] It just said, "Find the star."

There's no star on that.

Oh, no!

[Meredith speaking Spanish]

- Charge!

[tense music]

- [Deana] You think we should've went down the other one?

- [Ray] No, I'm confident.

Don't second guess me anymore.

Rio San Antonio, that's it!

- Good job!

- Travel by taxi to the next pit stop.

Nobody could have found this this quick.

- This is San Antonio?

- [Meredith] Yeah.

- [Gretchen] Okay.

- There they are.

- Ahoy!

Turn around and follow them.

- [Deana] They're following us.

- [Ray] Meredith and Gretchen.

The farther they follow us,

the farther away they get from the clue.

- They're gonna b*at us!

Oh!

- They're gonna hate us.

- [Ray] These people don't belong in this game with us.

- [Susan] You never know.

I don't give up.

- [Patrick] I don't know why you would wanna stay in.

- [Susan] Why not?

I want to do this.

- [Patrick] We've done it.

- [Susan] No, we haven't.

I'm not done.

- [Patrick] Whatever.

- [Susan] All right, here we are.

We're going to the island.

Patrick, we're not giving up.

[tense music]

- [Gretchen] I hope we're going the right way,

following this guy.

- It's a good thing we got out of there when we did,

because a few more minutes and they would have saw us.

They're gonna be out here

till tomorrow morning looking for this.

- Sweetheart, I'm baffled.

- I'm baffled, too.

- [Meredith] I think we've gone the wrong way.

- [Gretchen] I think we need to turn around.

[tense music]

- Which way?

Turn it this way?

- [Patrick] I don't even know, you know.

Like don't ask.

- [Susan] If there's any inkling of hope, I keep going.

- [Patrick] Mom, there's no inkling of hope.

When it's done, it's done.

- Meredith and Gretchen stopped, I don't see them.

I'm not losing to a -year-old man and his wife,

even if it were checkers.

We got them b*at no matter what.

- [Deana] We gotta go get a taxi.

- [Ray] Vicente Casares.

Let's go!

[tense music]

- It's got to be right here.

[Meredith speaking Spanish]

- We were right here and we went back.

Oh, god!

Oh, god, oh, god!

- Travel by taxi to the next pit stop.

- [Gretchen] Ray and them, they found it.

- I guess he was lying to us.

It's part of the game.

- Thank you.

Gracias. - Bye.

- [Gretchen] We need to get a cab.

[tense music]

- [Patrick] There it is.

This is so stupid.

It's right there.

- Polo ranch.

All right.

We gotta get out of here.

- [Patrick] This is really stupid

- [Susan] Don't say that.

- [Meredith] I'm going to ask the ticket guy.

- [Gretchen] I can't imagine

the little ticket guy can help us.

[tense music]

[Meredith speaking Spanish]

- Outside, by the stand.

- [Meredith] I understand.

We're still in it if we can just get that cab.

Gretchen, please be positive.

- [Gretchen] All right, all right.

- [Meredith] There's a cab.

La Vicene Casares, si, si.

- [Susan] Let's go.

Let's take a taxi.

- [Patrick] There's one other there.

- [Susan] I'm so happy to see you.

- [Patrick] Let's just get this over with.

- We're on our way.

[tense music]

- Ray and Deana,

you're team number six.

- Oh, thank god!

- I'll take it

for now.

[tense music]

- Right now, I think we still have a chance

to stay in the game.

- It's not over right now.

No one's told me I'm out of the race.

[tense music]

- Meredith and Gretchen.

- Yes.

- You're team number seven.

- Seven. - My god.

- You are still in "The Amazing Race."

- The most amazing thing is that we're still upright.

[soft music]

- Welcome to Argentina.

- Thanks. - Gracias.

- Susan and Patrick.

- Yeah.

- You're the last team to arrive.

[sobbing]

I'm sorry to tell you

you've both been eliminated from the race.

Your mom is pretty upset.

Why do you think it's so important to your mom

to stay in this race?

- I don't know.

[Patrick chuckling]

Why don't you answer that, Mom?

- I knew we could do it.

It was out of our control today.

Things didn't go good.

I can't fix boats.

Patrick's pessimism is frustrating for me.

I see it always as a glass is half full

and he sees it half empty.

That's something that we are not going to agree on.

I wanted to keep trying.

- She wanted to keep trying,

but I'm telling you right now--

- I was determined to get here tonight.

- I am more of a realist,

and so it frustrates me to hear optimism

that I don't think is real.

Maybe I need to lighten up.

[soft music]

- [Phil] Stay tuned for scenes from our next episode.

On the next special two-hour "Amazing Race,"

Ray and Deana take the high road.

- You got it, baby!

- [Dean] Whoa.

I can't.

- [Phil] And Gretchen takes a fall.

- [Gretchen] Uhh!

Help! - Help us!

Oh, god, Gretchen.

- [Phil] Uchenna and Joyce get emotional

at an orphanage.

- The kids were so sweet.

- [Uchenna] This has been the most special moment for us

in the entire race.

- [Phil] And Brian and Greg have an accident.

- [Brian] Watch out!

Wait, wait, wait.

Come on.

Hey.

[shouting]

- [Lynn] Oh, my god!

Oh, my god!

["Amazing Race" theme song]
