06x11 - It Always Comes Down to Details

Post by bunniefuu »

- [Phil] The following episode of "The Amazing Race"

was filmed in Sri Lanka several weeks

before a deadly tsunami struck the country.

We dedicate this episode to the memory

of the thousands of people

who lost their lives in this terrible tragedy,

and to our courageous friends and coworkers in the region

who are coping with its aftermath.

Previously on "The Amazing Race",

six teams set out from the island of Corsica

and raced , miles to Lalibela, Ethiopia.

At the airport, Adam secured an early flight.

But Rebecca spilled the beans to Chris and Jon.

Adam was irate.

And Rebecca threatened to permanently

break off their relationship.

- I wasted two years on you.

I'm not gonna waste another minute.

- [Phil] On the detour, Victoria cut her hand.

[Victoria screaming]

But Jonathan showed no sympathy.

- I don't know what's wrong with her!

- Jonathan, help her!

- [Phil] Adam and Rebecca yielded Freddie and Kendra.

- We choose to yield Freddie and Kendra.

- [Phil] When Kendra got stuck on a cliff.

- Why are you saying this is my fault? How dare you?

- [Phil] But Jonathan and Victoria misread their clue,

taking only one donkey-

- We have to have two donkeys.

- [Phil] When they should have taken two,

- Two donkeys.

- And in the end,

they could not recover from their mistakes.

Jonathan and Victoria,

I'm sorry to tell you both been eliminated from the race.

Now, five teams remain.

Who will be eliminated next?

[adventurous music]

This is Ethiopia,

the oldest independent nation in Africa.

And in the Northern part of the country, Lalibela,

this isolated town was the eighth pit stop

in a race around the world.

Teams arrived here at the end of the last leg

for a mandatory rest period.

Will Kris and Jon continue to run a smooth race,

or will the pressures of the game finally break them down?

And will last place Adam and Rebecca remain competitive,

or will their tense relationship knock them out of the race?

Hayden and Aaron,

who are the first to arrive at : PM,

will depart at : AM.

- Take a charter flight to the city of Addis Ababa.

- [Phil] Teams must now make their way miles

to Lalibela Airport.

Once there, teams will sign up

for one of two charter flights leaving minutes apart

to Ethiopia's capital city, Addis Ababa.

When they land,

they'll have to find this stadium

where they'll get their next clue.

- In the last leg,

Hayden and I went from worse to first.

And we finally put all luck aside

and just worked together as a team.

And when we can do that,

there's no team that can b*at us.

- We're gonna go to the airport.

- Take a chartered flight to the city of Addis Ababa.

- Let's get it. - Let's go.

Lori and I are concentrating on winning.

Now, if we slow down and take a minute

to read our clue correctly and make sure

we understand everything completely,

then we have a very, very good chance.

'Cause there's only five teams left.

Lalibela Airport.

- You have $ for this leg of the race.

- , , , . Let's go.

- Let's go.

- Right now we're comfortable,

but you can't be too comfortable in this game.

At this point, there's only five teams left.

So we want to be the head of the pack.

- To the airport, please.

[tense music]

- So we're the first people here.

- Let's go get signed up.

First charter flight, second team.

- Thank you so much. Hey, what's up?

- Thank you.

- $.

The last leg of the race,

we were yielded by Adam and Rebecca.

So we've got an extra sense of drive

to get ahead of everyone today.

And I'm confident that Kendra and I

can work our way up into a better position.

- Airport. Please.

- Take a charter flight to the city of Addis Ababa.

- Take a charter? - Yeah.

- And there's two? - Yep.

Adam neurosis is affecting the team because I

feel I can't trust that he's gonna do a good job.

Adam is capable of more than he thinks he is.

And I just need him to believe in himself.

Stick it back here.

- [Kendra] I gotta find a bathroom, I'm gonna puke.

- Okay. Let's go.

- Thank you.

Think we're last one's here.

- We're not feeling so good about

being on the second charter,

it's always a better feeling to be in front.

- Kendra didn't take too well to

some of the local cuisine.

You okay, baby?

[Kendra groaning]

You feel better at all?

- I don't know what I ate.

Hopefully my stomach problems won't hinder us today.

[urgent music]

- Thank you.

- [Jon] I feel pretty good about our position.

- [Freddy] Got a little half hour window

ahead of the other two teams.

- [Rebecca] I hate these planes. I hate these planes.

I hate these planes.

[upbeat music]

- Taxi!

Gotta get to the stadium fast.

- Cannot let them catch us.

- Stadium. You know where the stadium is?

- Stadium? - Stadium?

- You know?

- Very fast. Very fast.

- Kris and Jon are still back there.

- Yeah, go around that guy.

- Oh God. We must keep up with them.

Apparently he doesn't know what drive fast means.

- [Kris] We got to get in the stadium.

- Stay here. Please don't go nowhere.

There it is, right there.

- I see it.

[dramatic music]

- Choose a pair of Ethiopian runners

and work as a team to complete a four man relay.

- [Phil] Teams must now make their way onto the track.

And in this country famous for

nurturing world class track stars,

they must choose a pair of Ethiopian runners

and complete a four man relay.

When they finish the race,

the track coach will give them their next clue.

- Choose two?

- Just choose two. - Okay.

You guys. You ready?

- And we all run one lap?

- Go.

- Fast, fast.

Run like you're getting chased by a cop, dude.

'Cause I'm gonna run like the chief of police's

chasing me, 'cause I'm used to it.

- [Aaron] Is this the stadium here?

- Yes.

- Okay. Front entrance please.

Will you wait right here?

- We got to go.

- I wish I didn't have to pee.

- Go baby.

Pace yourself. Pace yourself.

- Complete a four man relay

to receive your next clue.

Right on!

This is my event. I'm excited.

I ran college track,

and the four by four was one of my events.

This is the start.

We can't take the inside lane?

- You stay here. We'll be right back.

- Yeah, brother.

- They're already inside.

Complete a four man relay.

- Come on baby.

Go, go, go, go, go. Run, run, run.

- So, guys.

- [Bolo] That dude's freaking flying man.

- Come on, Bolo. We got to go.

Your the last one, babe.

- [Hayden] All right guys. Let's rock and roll.

- [Aaron] Let's go. Let's go people.

- Here we are. Go, go, go.

- [Kris] Come on, baby!

- I was halfway around the track

when the Ethiopian runner caught me.

- Baby, you were a little outta gas there, too.

- I was outta gas.

- Come on, baby! Come on!

You got it!

Don't get in their way. [laughing]

Get a clue! Get a clue.

- [Aaron] Let's go, babe!

- I can go on the inside lane. Right?

- Let's go, baby!

Good job. Good job.

- [Adam] Go get 'em!

- Fly to the city of Columbo

in the county of Sri Lanka.

- [Phil] Teams must now fly more than , miles

to the city of Colombo on the small island of Sri Lanka.

When they land, teams will travel by train

nearly miles to the city of Galle.

Once there, teams must hire a local tuk tuk

and take it to this fort to find their next clue.

- Let's go! - Let's go.

- Airport. Fast, fast.

- [Hayden] Good job.

Go baby. Pace yourself, honey!

Go on the inside!

- [Kris] Go, baby, go!

- Good job, baby.

Go to Sri Lanka.

- Haydenis a track star, you know,

so she smoked Kris and I smoked Jon.

And we finished before them.

You know, hey, we're fast. Yeah.

To the airport please.

- Nice work, baby. Nice work.

Fly to the city of Colombo in Sri Lanka.

- Back to the airport.

Thank you.

Seriously.

- Where's the taxi?

- Down here.

- My stomach's k*lling you.

I have to go to the bathroom.

- Okay, fast? Staying there.

Okay. We need to go very fast.

- no.

- We need to go to the stadium. Okay?

- Keep having to make restroom stops.

[adventurous music]

- Let's go, baby.

- We need to fly to Colombo, to Sri Lanka.

- [Lori] Let's go and book that.

- [Bolo] Thank you so much.

- Complete a four man relay to receive your next clue.

You run fast? How far is it, meters? One lap?

- [Rebecca] Good work, Adam.

Go, go, go!

- Fast, fast.

- [Jon] I think we just passed Aaron and Hayden.

- [Aaron] Just drive.

- Drive and follow him. Please follow him.

Kris and Jon, they're really tough competition

and it seems like they always get in front of us.

- And so we'd like to see Chris and Jon gone.

- Right here.

- Complete a four man relay to receive your next clue.

It's all right.

[energetic music]

- Go. Back back.

Start moving.

- [Adam] Breathe, Rebecca.

You got it!

- Go baby!

- [Kendra] When I started running,

my stomach just went into knots

and I was really in a lot of pain.

And I ran like an year old woman.

- Almost there! Let's go! Yeah.

- Congratulations.

- Hand it to number three.

Good job, baby.

Good job. - My stomach's k*lling me.

- Country of Sri Lanka.

- We're going to the airport. - Airport, please, please.

meters- - Sprinting.

- [Adam] Farther than it looks.

- Back up oxygen, somebody.

- There you go. Thank you so much.

- How you doing?

- We need two tickets to Sri Lanka.

- Thank you.

[dramatic music]

- Congratulations.

- Great job, baby.

Fly to the city of Colombo in the country of Sri Lanka.

- Fast, fast. Airport.

- Thank you.

- Ethiopian Air.

- Tickets to Sri Lanka, please.

There's no other flight?

Thank you very much.

- We gotta go back to exactly the way we came

toward the airport.

This is not right. Not right.

We have to go back the other way. Turn around.

[intense music]

- All right. Thank you sir.

Here we go.

We need some tickets to Sri Lanka.

Okey dokey. Thank you.

- I'll give you . You gimme .

- This is not fair.

- Yeah it is. Yes it is.

You were making out like a bandit, buddy.

You're doing good, you know it.

- He said, "This is not fair".

- He took it. Didn't he?

It's not fair to us.

We need tickets to Colombo, Sri Lanka.

- Can we get the flight? - Is there enough room now?

- Thank you.

So far things have worked in our favor.

We're all on the same flight

and we're all headed to Sri Lanka together.

So this is a whole new race for us.

[dreamy music]

- [Phil] All five teams are now

flying to Sri Lanka via Dubai.

When they land, they'll have to make their way

to this train station and catch a train

to the city of Galle.

[traditional music]

[passengers chatting]

- We need a very fast taxi driver.

We're in a race.

- Train station. Go, go, go.

- We're in a hurry. We're in a big hurry.

- For the train station. Fast fast.

- Train? Choo-choo. Train.

[urgent music]

- I'm a little scared.

We're driving down the wrong side of the road

with cars coming at us.

- This is different.

- Get past them too.

[Lori and Bolo giggling]

- Oh my God. I think it was Lori and Bolo.

- I'm just trying to hold it together.

- It's absolutely gorgeous here.

There's elephants in the street.

It's actually really cool.

- You know where the train station is?

Tell him, please, tell him.

I see no one else here.

- We're in last place.

- Yes. .

- ?

- There you go. Thank you.

- Thank you, my man.

- [Rebecca] Can we go a little bit faster?

We have to catch up.

[bus horn beeping]

- Oh my God.

- Tickets to Galle?

- When does it leave?

- Oh my God, honey.

There's nowhere to sit. Too bad we're gonna stand.

- Number five is that way?

There's no seats.

I guess we'll just sit on the edge of the floor here.

- This is the ugliest train I've ever been on.

- Oh my God.

I gotta find a bathroom, I'm gonna puke.

- The train leaves now.

- Make sure it doesn't leave.

This is gonna be interesting.

- So nine o'clock is the first train out to go?

Number five.

[tense music]

- What time is it right now?

- :.

- There's no earlier train to Galle?

Were you here? Did you see anybody like us or no?

With backpacks like this?

- Rebecca, you know how far behind we are?

They all left, but us.

- Why are you yelling at me?

- Because I'm pissed!

We just lost the whole game.

How did we miss it if we were right behind them all?

I don't know,

but let's go figure out something to do.

I don't wanna sit here for an hour and minutes.

I'm gonna sit here?

I want to go back to the airport or something.

No, we don't need to go back and forth.

Go to the airport and leave.

- Leave where?

- Leave. I don't wanna be here.

I want to leave.

- All right, let's get a cab. Let's get outta here.

Taxi!

We wanna go to the airport. 'Cause he wants to go home.

Okay.

Let's do it! Fly home!

- You wanna take a three hour train ride?

- Let's give up. That's a great idea.

Any other suggestions? 'Cause I'm down for whatever.

- I suggest you stop talking to me right now.

That's my suggestion. - That's easy.

That's an easy one.

[energetic music]

- [Lori] Okay baby?

- [Bolo] Let's get a tuk tuk.

- Let's go, Bolo. Come on.

We have to take a tuk tuk.

- [Bolo] Go, go, go. To the lighthouse.

We must b*at them.

- Honey, I got one.

- Good job, baby. Good eyes.

Way to go, baby.

- We need a tuk tuk.

We need to go here. Fast, fast, fast.

- A tuk tuk is a motorcycle, but it's got three wheels.

So it's pretty fun.

- Go, go, go! [laughing]

- All right. Tuk tuk driver, woo-hoo!

Crazy, crazy.

- Oh God. What? Watch where you're going.

- I wish I had one of these at home.

It'd be pretty neat to drive around in.

- Go around this guy. Go around that guy.

- There's the box.

- Stop! Stop!

Baby, where? Oh God!

- Go, baby!

- I see it, baby.

- Bolo and Lori are over here.

- Let's go. Detour.

Tree trunks or elephant trunks.

- A detour is a choice between two tasks,

each with its own pros and cons.

In this detour teams have to choose between two activities

common in Sri Lanka.

The choice: tree trunks or elephant trunks.

In tree trunks,

teams travel two miles by tuk tuk

to this coconut plantation.

Once there, each team member must climb feet

to the top of a coconut tree,

traverse the rope walkway and pick up a small jug filled

with sap used for making the local liquor.

When each team member has collected a sap filled jug,

they'll receive their next clue.

In elephant trunks,

teams travel two and a half miles by tuk tuk

to this elephant polo field.

Then each team member one after the other

must ride an elephant down the polo field

while dribbling a bowl with a polo mallet.

They must maneuver the ball around this pole,

travel back down the field and sh**t at the goal.

When both team members have scored a goal,

the referee will hand them their next clue.

- Okay. Tree trunks.

- Let's go.

- Elephant or tree?

- Let's do the elephant.

- Detour.

The coconut plantation, the tree trunks.

- Can you climb a tree?

- I guess? Yeah.

Let's climb the tree. Let's go.

- Okay. - Let's go.

- Everybody is an hour ahead.

If there is an elimination, we are going home.

- [Adam] That sucks. Like we didn't do anything.

We didn't screw up anything.

This is, I'm-

- Adam, please just leave me alone.

- This is upsetting situation, Rebecca.

- Please. I'm just so completely exhausted.

- I know Rebecca. So am I. So am I, right?

- Would you just do me a favor

and back up just a little bit.

I just want not be together anymore.

[intense music]

- Let's go. Let's go. This way.

We picked the coconut tree to climb,

'cause I've climbed trees when I was little and he did too.

- Climb hard, baby.

Get the jug and bring it back.

Go girl.

[elephant roaring]

- Looks like fun.

- Probably never going to get another opportunity

to ride an elephant in our lives.

Let's go have some fun.

- Got to get up there, girl.

Be careful.

Go around to the right baby.

Go around to the right.

- Right there. That's it, baby, right there.

- This is gonna be sweet.

- Aaron. Come on.

I see it! Come on!

- [Aaron] You go first.

- I don't even know what I'm doing.

I am terrified of heights.

That's a phobia of mine. Oh sh**t.

- Walk, walk, walk, walk.

There you go. Lean on that rope, baby.

- Are you guys ready?

Okay. Climb away mate.

- Go baby, go. Yeah Jonny!

- [Aaron] You can do it, honey.

- [Hayden] Do I use the coconuts to climb?

- [Aaron] Good job, honey.

- [Kris] Careful, baby.

- Come on girl. You're doing just fine.

Can you just keep going?

Grab that jug and hook it to your waist belt.

Take your time.

- Losing my rope. The safety rope is in my way.

- [Kris] Good job, Jon.

Come on, baby. You got it. You got it.

Good job, Jonny.

- [Lori] Turn back around the opposite way baby.

Come on back. Let's go girl.

Come on. We gotta tighten up.

- Aaron?

- No honey.

- I'm scared.

- No you're okay. You're doing good.

- I can't see. - Straighten your legs.

[calm music]

- Please don't squash my ball.

It's a lot better than climbing a tree.

- Go girl, go girl.

- You got it, baby. You rock.

Good job. - That's so fun.

Just concentrate.

Just take your time, baby. You got it.

There you go.

You're making good time. Keep going.

- Aaron!

- [Aaron] No you're all right.

- Aaron. I'm stuck.

- My girls rocking it.

There you go. Stable yourself, hun.

Just take it nice and easy, babe.

- Come on girl.

- It's hard.

- Walk across there. However you can do it, baby.

There you go.

- My legs and arms was already tired

because with us being heavier,

it was pretty difficult.

- Just be careful. Okay?

- I got, I got it baby. I got it.

- Keep going all the way to the ground. Yeah.

- [Bolo] Kris and Jon.

They're gonna be our strongest adversary at this moment.

- Thank you very much, my friend.

- Haul ass girl, come on.

We gotta tighten up.

- He's right there.

- Thank you. - Thank you.

- Tell my best to the city of Kandy.

- [Phil] Teams must now travel by bus more than miles

to the city of Kandy and make their way to the

Kandian Art Association.

Once there, they must purchase an offering,

take it to the nearby temple of the tooth

and give it to this monk in exchange for their next clue.

- All right. - To the bus station.

- Fricking terrified of heights.

- [Aaron] Straighten your legs.

- I felt paralyzed.

I was terrified that I was gonna fall down

and the rope holding me up was gonna break.

Aaron! I don't know if I can do this.

- Attach it onto your loop. You're doing great, babe.

Yay. Just make it back.

Nice and slow.

- Eh, Gary, I'm so scared.

- I hate this.

- You're doing just fun. Sweet.

Now just come on down. Just watch your footing.

Yeah. Now you're kicking it.

Girl. Come.

- Watching. It's hard, baby.

Don't we bounce.

- We'll take my time.

- Oh, well we gotta hurry up.

They're heading. I'm working it.

Come on, baby.

Your hands. Give out.

It's not that easier.

- Hayden. Don't freak out. It's right there.

Grab your foot.

- You're doing good. Bella.

Come on. That's good job, baby.

Hook it to your belt.

- You did a great job. Nice job.

Nice job. Nice job.

Nice job. Very fun.

- I didn't think I could stay on.

And I was so afraid of falling.

So you gotta get over your fears.

The only way to do it is by, by doing.

- Up.

- I don't want go.

- Home and it's at me, sucking it up and being,

it was girlfriend. You know, then I'm gonna have to do that.

- I'm not gonna give up. I don't think she is either.

Hopefully we'll get some luck.

- What are you doing? Making it harder on your stuff?

Cuz you're turned around too many times.

- Good job baby.

Aaron's kicking butt. He's a lot braver in the room.

- Come on, baby.

You got speed up.

He's coming back with Crow right up under you right up under

you.

- Come on baby.

You're almost there.

- Grab me job and meet down.

He's coming down.

- Honey. You're almost there.

They're just a little bit in front of us. Pick it up.

- It's got this.

- Go travel by bus to the city of Kandy

who must go to bus station?

- Can a double turn.

- Twice.

- I thought, why are you gotta get so technical.

- Now? We're like, well.

- Whatever do it all yourself. Miss.

Perfect.

- Thank.

- You. Thank you.

Thank you.

- Temple of the tooth. All right.

We need to go to the bus station.

- Come on baby. Keep going.

Look at you on top of that elephant.

- The elephants. They're just so docile and sweet and slow.

I was feeling much better.

- You're the master of pack of DMS.

- Do you, do you wait for us?

Yeah. Yeah.

Here.

- Do the ropes course. Sure.

Yeah. We're.

- Strong and we can do it fast.

- Get in.

Yeah.

Here is you.

- Careful by bus. Okay.

You find the bus station.

- We're waiting for the number one bus to Kandy.

- This bus here is to candy.

- Is this to candy. This bus.

- Frustrating to work your butt off just to get ahead.

And then all the other teams catch up and you're gonna have

to start from ground zero.

- Is that is, that was candy.

Stop pushing.

We've got big buses back in the us and nice trains.

And so you learn to appreciate these things really is a

reality check.

Come on a Bela. Ready?

- No problem.

- You look cute up there.

Little monkey.

You got it. Good work.

- Nothing to it.

- You're looking at the superstar up there.

I climbing in the tree. I'm gonna try not to cry.

Adam.

- Listen to me. It's really easy.

Just hold on with one hand and make sure you have a good

grip at all times. You're gonna be awesome.

- You got it.

We're with a large group of people.

They just left.

Ridiculous.

- A hold of the train.

- Just got it.

- Got it. Awesome.

All right. Now just come on home.

You're doing so good. Adam piece of cake, huh?

- Come.

- Thank you so much.

- Okay.

- Travel by bus. The city of.

- Candy. Let's go find the bus.

- Today's been a rough day and but I'm assuming we're done

with the game.

There're right there. It's closed eight in the morning.

We sleeping up here. Won't We.

- Bolo and Lori are over here.

It's closed.

- : in the morning.

- You're kidding me.

- Look where everybody is.

So what time?

AM?

- Oh look. Yeah.

- The train was hour and a half behind everyone else.

- Chances are that no one got here before,

before this is really amazing.

I was hoping something like this would happen.

We're still in it.

And tomorrow's a new day and I'm feeling strong.

- [Phil] All five teams are now waiting outside

the Kandian Art Association.

Once it opens at : AM teams must purchase a bowl of rice

and take it across the street

to a monk at the temple of the tooth.

- Yay.

Hello? How much?

a piece.

You got it baby. Got it.

Let's go baby. Come on.

- Okay.

Come on. Cause we've gotta get to this.

Come on. Here's the flying tree.

Do you see it? Look there it is.

- Come on, Lori.

- Make an offer. Hey, thank you.

We set the rice down again. The whole time he was tiny.

These strings, he was saying something.

I couldn't understand it, but I think it was a blessing.

- Thank you. Thank you so much.

Travel by bus to Dambulla.

- [Phil] Teams must now travel by bus

nearly miles to the city of Dambulla.

Once there teams will take a tuck duck to the ancient city

of geria. When they arrive,

they'll make their way to this dominating granite peak cold

lion rock. It is here.

That teams will find their next clue.

- Let's go. Okay.

We gotta go catch a bus bus station fast, fast,

Travel by bus to BOL, tuck, tuck.

- We're just going to the bus station.

Thank you.

Travel by bus. The bus station.

- Take a tuk tuk.

- Chris and I are both religious and we really respect and

cherish and the blessing from the monk. In the meantime,

you have this race going on in your last.

So you're trying to concentrate on getting to the next clue.

- Thank you very much.

Travel by best to Dambulla.

Hey, talks out.

Here's wait. Where's he going, honey?

We gotta get to the bus station very fast. Very fast.

- Damn it. They passed us again.

Aaron should have arranged those Hayden sick. Your, buy it.

- Which bus to Dambulla? This one here.

Straight to Dambulla.

Okay. Thank you.

The fast express bus

bus.

We're both feeling really good right now.

And we have a little bit more of a charge to stay in this

game. It's getting down

fast, fast, fast, fast.

- All the teams are behind.

- Go to the tuk tuks.

Come here, here the lion round.

Yes. Alright.

Get in, go faster with the race lion rock fast, fast, go,

go get in.

Go say it again. See fast Fast's three eye.

The lion rock. Just drive very fast.

It's a race faster, faster.
