And now I can talk to animals.

It's really cool, but totally secret.

- Well, everyone, here we are just in time

For the dia de los muertos celebration.

- [Chattering]

- How did we pick this zippy suburb anyhow?

- Hello, we've only been planning this for months.

We're going to see the guy who makes the masks.

- You said there was going to be a festival.

This is just how they get ready for it.

- Now, where is that rustic domicile?

- So it's mexico trick or treat time or something?

- Fascinatingly, dia de los muertos

Is a close cousin to halloween.

It's a day when the spirits of those long gone

Are welcomed into the community.

- Hey, I found the mask guy.

Oh, on to meet the finest crafter of masks

It's the special blend of chilies

That really brings out the flavor of the grasshopper.

- My mom showed me how to make these bracelets,

And her mom showed her.

For the festival.

- Is it gonna be like a big party?

- Oh, it's more than that.

Everyone in mexico gets together to remember their ancestors.

I never met her,

But I believe the spirits are always with us,

Every year, we get to decorate our family's spot

In the cemetery.

This is an important part of the celebration.

- Lovely. - And cinematic.

- We use paint and flowers, everything you can think of.

- What are you doing now?

- I'm helping the spirits find their way back here

For tonight's celebration.

- Lena, how come that one's not painted like the rest?

While some children don these in play,

Others, called mummers, wear them to scare spirits

Back into the great beyond.

I have a funny feeling that if I get back there,

I just might see a spirit.

That's what this festival's all about, right?

- If it's okay, there's something I want to do.

- All right, but hurry,

'Cause if you take too long, you'll miss the festival.

- [Chattering]

I guess we're on foot from here.

- We've got to remember this is just a big celebration.

Not that I had anything to do with putting it in bread

- [Chattering]

- There he is. There's the pig.

- [Chattering, laughing]

- Donnie.

- The rain's stopping,

Just like rosario said it would.

- Who is that, honey?

- Rosario vega. - Rosario vega.

[Gasps]
