JOHNNY: All right,
pretty good, pretty good.

Just keep it a little
bit more inside.

All right. All right,
right in here.

Okay, Mike, you gonna have to keep
your eye on what you're doing, now.

Come on,
keep it in the strike zone.

You're putting too
far to the right.

Doesn't look too good.

Yeah, I know,
that's the fifth in a row.

Speed it in here,
let's get it going here.

Come on, you can do it,
you can do it.

Come on. No, come on, Mike.

Keep your eye
on what you're doing.

Okay guys, lunch.
Come and get it.

That's okay, Mike.

Don't worry about it.

I don't know how to replace
you on second base anyway.

Sorry, I just guess I wasn't
cut out to be a pitcher.

Don't worry about it.

[sums]

Roy, are we in a lot of trouble.

You'd think out of three shifts,

one person would
know how to pitch.

Somebody other than Dwyer.

Well, did you try everybody?

Yeah.

Except for Chet, and
he doesn't even play ball.

Johnny, you're taking this
whole thing too seriously.

It's a friendly game
there tomorrow.

So what if you lose? We'll all have a
lot of food, a few beers, a few laughs.

Yeah, that's just the problem.

What, having a good time?

No, all that food,
and the beer, and the...

And the soft drinks,
and the games for the kids, and the prizes.

[sums]

Losers are gonna have
to pay for all that.

What?

Wait a minute. We always share the
cost with 36's. How did this happen?

Well, last week at the
meeting we had over there...

You were suppose to go and
make arrangements, remember?

Yeah.

You made a deal?

You made a deal with them
without talking to us about it first?

Well, I mean,
one thing kind of led to another,

and we were all talking about how
the games are so close every year,

and somebody suggested that we do this
to kind of make the games more interesting.

[CHUCKLES]

[CLEARS THROAT]

Look, how was I supposed to know
Dwyer'd fall off a roof and break his arm?

That's all right.

Just tell the other two shifts we're
splitting the cost for the entire picnic.

That's all.

Well, I...

You know, Gage,
you're a one-man disaster area.

Oh...

[ALARM SOUNDING]

DISPATCHER: Station 51,
vehicle accident with injuries.

13212 De Kalb Drive.

13212 De Kalb Drive.

Cross street, Woodhill.
Time out, 1155.

Station 51, KMG 365.

[SIREN WAILING]

The driver's still sitting in there,
and the gas t*nk is leaking.

Right in the watery...

You better get some of
this oil cleaned up over here.

STANLEY:
Go ahead and pull a line.

It's jammed. We were
afraid of sparks if we forced it.

JOHNNY: He's got a good
strong foot pulse.

Doesn't seem to be
any fractures.

I don't see any bleeding.

Roy? Yeah.

I smell booze.

We need the Jaws of Life,
here, huh?

Got a laceration on
the ridge of his nose.

All right. I don't think it's broken,
it's superficial.

Okay.

Johnny, we're gonna need a
crowbar to get that door open.

All right.

STANLEY: What do you need?

Jaws of life.
STANLEY: You got them.

Okay, Vince.

Watch it go in.

Right.

That looks like a
ruptured blood vessel.

What did you do, hit something?

Yeah, I sure did.

You've been taking
kung fu lessons, Dix?

No, I went to a friendly
little party last night.

Oh, yeah?

Yes, and I ran into somebody
that wasn't so friendly.

Uh-oh.

ROY: Rampart, this is Squad 51.

This is Rampart, go ahead, 51.

We got a male victim here in a vehicle
accident. He's about 55 years of age.

His legs are trapped
underneath the steering wheel.

He has a strong pedal pulse. No evidence
of any fracture or bleeding of any kind.

There's a strong odor
of ethanol present.

All right, he's coming around.

Victim's now coming around,
so there's no evidence of a spinal injury.

The victim also has a superficial
laceration across the bridge of his nose.

We can't get vitals, Rampart.
There's gasoline leaking all over here.

We better get the man
out of here first.

Uh, he seems to be moving, so we don't
figure there's any evidence of spinal injury.

All right, 10-4, 51, be sure and
keep his back and his neck straight.

ROY: 10-4, Rampart.

Start the engine.

All right, it's enough. Okay!

It's a good thing you
had your seat-belt on.

Fine. Now, look, settle down.

You're gonna be all right,
you're gonna be all right.

Where does it hurt? Right here?

[GUS GRUNTING]

I'm okay, okay.

You all right?

VINCE: Settle down. Settle down now,
take it easy.

[SIRENS WAILING]

DISPATCHER ON RADIO:

toxic chemicals are stored
in a tanker.

Use caution.

KELLY ON RADIO: Squad 51,
this is Rampart. Can you send me some EKG?

JOHNNY ON RADIO:

We're sending you a strip.
Vitals to follow.

Pulse is 160. The victim
is in extreme pain, Rampart.

[INTERCOM BEEPING]

This patient is in V-fib.

Rampart, we have lost the
victim's pulse. Beginning CPR.

[RAPID BEEPING]

We're defibrillating victim,
Rampart.

Rampart, we've defibrillated
victim. Decent sinus rhythm.

JOE ON RADIO: Administer 2 amps
sodium bicarb and insert an airway.

KELLY ON RADIO: Start an IV,

DIXIE: Squad 51, continue monitoring
Vitals and transport immediately.

JOHNNY ON RADIO:
We're on our way, Rampart.

VINCE: Better get him out.
CHET: Okay, yeah.

Must have been something I said.

Come here,
let me reach you from here.

JOHNNY: Rampart,
this is Squad 51.

ROY: Bring the gurney over
here. We're gonna need restraints.

JOHNNY: Our victim's become
violent and had to be subdued.

He might have just had
some kind of a seizure.

He is now comatose.

Stand by for vital signs.

JOHNNY: Let me get his pulse.

Rampart, pulse is 100,
stand by for BP and respiration.

BP is 130 over 80. Pulse is 20.

What's respiration?

ROY: Respiration is 20.

Rampart, BP is 130 over 80,
respiration is 20. He's now coming to.

as soon as possible.

Uh, 51, as soon he's fully conscious,
check his pupillary response.

Affirmative, Rampart. Rampart,
do you want me to start an IV?

Negative, 51.

10-4, Rampart.

GUS: My gut, it hurts, my God!

All right, put him inside.

My God, my gut hurts!

[GROANING]

GUS: My God!

ROY: Easy, take it easy.

STANLEY: Are you gonna
run up and grab that line?

ROY: Relax, huh? We'll get you to
the hospital, you're gonna be okay.

His BP is still holding.

There's no evidence of a ruptured spleen,
but he sure was hurting.

Dix, I'm gonna need some X-rays.

Flat plate and an
upright of the abdomen?

Yeah, and a full
skull series too.

What happened? He was
conscious when he came in.

Just long enough to tell us his name,
then he passed out again.

Hmm, but not from
the bump on the nose.

[SNIFFS]

Drunk?

I'm waiting for the lab report.

That still wouldn't
account for the seizure.

Since he came in?

No, here he just drifted off.

While they were getting him out
of the wreck, he became violent.

Then he went into eye rolls and tremors,
and then passed out again.

Thank you.

He's slightly anemic.

Heavy drinkers usually are.

My guess is he's one of them.

Although he hasn't had much to
drink today. His blood alcohol's only .03.

That's barely enough
to give him a mild buzz.

And he evidently hasn't
been taking any dr*gs.

Dix, call neurology. Have them
send down whoever's available.

I'll need those X-rays
as soon as they are ready.

Dix, are Johnny
and Roy still here?

They were in treatment 1.

Well, it's not broken, but I'll be glad
to put on a cast if you want me to.

Thanks, Doc, but I'll get an
outside opinion. No offense.

Hi, Doc. Roy.

Hey, Doc. Hi, Johnny,
how's the nose?

Man, I feel like I've gone

How's the old man doing?

Well, he's comatose but stable.

Hey, you guys have any idea where
he impacted on the steering wheel?

Yeah. He hit the bridge of
his... Hit the bridge of his nose.

He probably also hit the
upper part of his ribcage.

So, what about the abdomen?

I kind of doubt it.
He had his seat-belt on.

That's probably what kept him
from going through the windshield.

He was hollering about his stomach.
Did he have any internal bleeding at all?

That's what I expected,
but his BP is up,

and there's been no drop
in his hematocrit.

Doc,
what the heck made him freak out like that?

That's still a mystery too.

The only thing we know about
him for sure is that his legs are okay.

Hmm, that's a big help.

He's conscious again,
Kel, and lucid.

Thanks, Dix.

Hey, I'll see you guys later. I wanna
talk to him before he blacks out again.

So you're not gonna do
anything about my nose?

Well, I can do
some plastic surgery.

Hey, Johnny, I understand
you took a punch in the nose.

Well, Dix,
I understand you threw one.

Who would start a
nasty rumor like that?

I don't know.

Thanks, Doc, you've been a big help. Yeah,
I'll see you guys.

Yeah. All right.

Oh, and Johnny,
keep your nose out of trouble.

Thanks, Doc.

Well, you gonna
make it to the picnic?

I wish I could, but I'm working.

That's a shame.
We'd love to have you.

Hey, good luck on the ballgame.

I understand you have
quite a bet riding.

Wait a minute,
where did you hear that?

Guys from 36. They
seemed pretty confident.

All right, now that does it.

Now, you are jumping
the g*n again.

You get on a telephone, call them
and straighten this whole thing out.

Fine,
I will. I got an idea that I can...

It was your idea that got us in
this whole mess in the first place.

I know, I know,
but didn't you see Chet...

Didn't you see Chet when he threw
that apple into the wastepaper basket?

There's about a foot opening...

Get on the phone and call 36.

I'll get on the phone, but at least
we can talk about it on the way.

Ain't so bad now, but sometimes it
feels just like I swallowed broken glass.

Where exactly?

Hey, can you get
these things off?

Just tell me where it hurts.

Yeah.

How long ago did the pain start?

Couple of months ago. I
went to a clinic but that doctor,

all he told me
I was to quit drinking.

[SCOFFS]

[GROANS]

Yeah, there.

The doctor gave you good advice.

[SCOFFS]

Another bunch of do-gooders.

Hey, tell me something. How did you
guys get your hands on me, anyway?

You mean, you don't
remember how you got here?

The last thing I remember, I was driving
along, and somebody called my name...

I don't know.

Next thing I know,
I'm here with these cockamamie handcuffs.

Neurology's sending down Pete
Young as soon as the X-rays are ready.

Good.

Gus, have you ever
blacked out before?

Do bears sleep in woods?

I remember one weekend
when... When...

[GROANING]

Nurse, tongue depressor.

[GROANING]

All I'm saying is
that we just try it.

I mean, we've got
nothing to lose...

If we can just try it. I mean,
and then if you guys wanna back out,

fine, then we'll back out,
but I mean, at least we can try it.

Well, Gage,
I've never even played baseball.

I mean, I've seen it on TV,
but I've never played.

Hey, don't worry about that.
Don't you even think about that.

If your pitching arm
is as good as I think it is,

I'll teach you everything
you need to know.

That's all we need.

I'll work with you every
spare minute I've got.

What do you say? Come on,
we've got nothing to lose.

Okay, but don't expect
too much of me.

I don't like people
expecting too much of me.

Right.

[ALARM SOUNDING]

DISPATCHER ON RADIO: Squad 51,
man bitten by an animal.

Trader Jack's Car Lot.

32010 Roosevelt Road,
cross street, Wellington.

32010 Roosevelt Road.

Ambulance is responding.
Time out, 1515.

Squad 51, KMG 365.

You should've been a salesman.
Would've made a fortune.

Oh, yeah? Selling what?

Anything-

[SIREN BLARING]

There it is.

That's that guy who does those
crazy TV commercials, isn't it?

Yeah.

All the way down,
last row on the right. Hurry!

[TIGER GROWLING]

Easy, girl, take it easy.

TRAINER: Folks,
please don't move around.

[GROWLING]

TRAINER: Easy, easy, Willy.

Just take it easy. Everything's
doing fine. Easy, girl, now, easy.

ROY-

Easy, easy girl. Easy, now.
Take it easy, easy, Willy.

TRAINER: Just walk
at a normal pace.

Quiet. Easy, Will.

Easy, everything's
gonna be fine.

Steady, easy, easy.

Keep those cops back.

Too many people will
get the cat excited.

Easy.

Atta girl.

Easy.

All right, he's got a good,
strong pulse.

You're the trainer, right?

I told everybody,
no food around her.

This jerk's a peanut freak. Got in
there with a pocket full of salted peanuts.

The cat don't know
no difference.

All right, okay, do you think we can
get him out without upsetting the cat?

You start crawling around
there and get Willy excited,

she's gonna go
wherever she wants to.

Well, we're gonna have
to sh**t him right now.

TRAINER: You can't do that.

If you just wound her,
you're gonna have 600 pounds of tiger

clawing the hell
out of everybody.

Maybe we can just ease him
out of there real slow.

I don't think that's gonna work,
he's got his seat-belt around him.

Seat-belt.

The car won't start without it.

See, he and Willy were supposed
to drive into the camera.

Easy.

Why don't we go with
an asbestos blanket?

Asbestos blanket?

Just have that ladder there.

What're you gonna do?

Well, we are gonna try to get this man out
of here without getting anybody else hurt.

I hope.

Just keep that cat happy,
all right?

Why don't we take this ladder? We're
gonna drape the asbestos over this ladder.

Okay, now we're gonna have to
open the door from our side, real slow,

edge the ladder over,

then Johnny and the trainer
will receive it from the other side.

As soon as they open the door, then we're gonna
have to jam it up tight, quick, all right?

Okay, now let me ask you one question.
Once we get it up, how do I let go?

You don't.

Just keep it up there till the man
arrives with the tranquilizer g*n.

Steady, Willy, steady.

Steady. Steady, Willy.

Slow, very slow.

Easy, easy-

Willy, easy, easy.

That's a girl, Willy.

Easy.

Don't freak the cat out.

Easy.

Unlock this.

Keep ii LIP-

Easy, girl.

[GROWLING]

Get his legs.

You wanna go in with him?

Yeah. All right.

Got him?

Let's go.

Okay.

Thank you.

I better stick around till they
get Willy tranquilized, all right?

Okay.

Pulse is 118.

Respiration is 20.

[SIREN WAILING]

God.

Okay, take it easy,
just take it easy.

All right, take it easy, now,
take it easy.

You're gonna be all right. Just
gonna take a look at this wound here.

[GROANING]

Okay.

Where...

Pretty lucky,
it's not very deep.

Okay.

Gonna get your BP here.

We're on our way to the hospital.
We're gonna fix you up fine.

Hey, did they get it on film?

I mean, me fighting that tiger.

I don't know, I wasn't there.

Oh, man, this is gonna
be one great commercial.

Oh, boy.

Okay.

All right.

Hey, don't move around.
You just stay still, okay?

I got to find out a few things.

Rampart, this is Squad 51.

Yes, sir. Please tell Dr. Young
that Dr. Brackett has the X-rays.

Go ahead, 51.

Rampart,
we're in transit with a man,

approximately 45 years old.

He's had a hard blow on the
head from a steering wheel.

He was comatose
but he's now conscious.

He also had a superficial animal
bite on the left upper quadrant.

The BP is 140 over 80,

the pulse 120 and
the respiration is 20.

Pupillary response
is almost normal.

Start on IV, D5W,
and don't touch the wound.

Incidentally, have you captured the
dog so it can be examined for rabies?

10-4 on the capture, Rampart,

but it is not a dog.
It's a tiger.

Did you say a tiger?

Yes, Rampart, I did.

What's your ETA?

Listen, you get in touch
with my publicity guy.

About three minutes, Rampart.

You can put him in 1.
It's all set.

Hey, Dix. Yeah.

What's a guy doing
with a tiger in his car?

What do you expect
him to do with it?

Take it for a walk?

JACK: Come on, now, I mean,
let's get a little cooperation

in here now, Doctor.

JOHNNY: I'm not a doctor.

Well, has anybody got a camera?

If we could just get one picture here now,
get the nurses all around...

Put your arm down,
you're gonna ruin your IV. Now, come on.

Doc, where do you want him?
Put him here in 1, John.

All right.

Doctor, maybe you can help me.

Have we got a camera anywhere
around here that we can use?

Doc, you don't need me, do you?

No, go ahead.

Doctor, can somebody around
here call the newspapers?

You'll be able to call them
yourself in a little while.

Little while?
Now, what good is that?

Come on, you know me. I'm Trader
Jack. You've seen me on the TV.

No, not that I remember.

What're you watching
on that thing?

X-rays?

This wound on your side,
did it really come from the tiger?

Well, yeah. But nobody's ever
gonna know that except you and me.

When was the last time
you had a tetanus sh*t?

I don't know, 20 years ago,
in the army I guess. I don't remember.

I don't think you'll forget
when you got this one.

Now, Doc...
Now, don't you hurt me.

[GROANING]

Can't you give me something
for this pain in my gut?

We will, Gus, we will.

Just as soon as another
doctor looks at you.

Well, I hurt now!

Gus, we want to find out what's
wrong with you so we can fix it.

If we stop the pain now,
it'll only make the problem more difficult.

Oh, you ain't fooling me. You don't
want me to know what you've done to me.

You... That's why you've
got me tied up like this.

You've been experimenting on
me like a guinea pig. Oh, my...

Hi, Kel.

Now, Pete, I'm glad you're here.

What's the problem?

Just take a look at these X-rays,
and I'll fill you in.

Well,
did they get the tiger out of the car?

Yeah, sleeping like a baby.
How's Trader Jack?

You know, the guy's
incredible. He's really incredible.

He wanted to go
on our next fire.

Says he can do a whole campaign on
the first fire sale in automotive history.

I mean, can you figure that?

You ready to go?

Well, no, I thought we could go in for
some coffee or something. Maybe just talk.

Well, listen,
I'd really like to do that,

but I got to get back with Chet.

I got to spend all my time with him,
you know.

Make him into a good pitcher, make
him work at it, you know. He's really good.

It's almost time
for dinner anyway.

Yeah, look at it that way.

What other way can I look at it?

Concussion, you know,
is nothing to be taken lightly.

Stay in bed a full 24 hours, and if you
feel any dizziness or unusual drowsiness,

get to your own physician right
away or come back here, okay?

Well, right, Doc. Now, listen,
do you suppose we can re-create the part

where they wheel me in
on the stretcher, see.

You can be in too,
you know. You can be on TV.

I doubt the hospital
administrator would agree to that.

Oh, now, where do I
get in touch with them?

Take your first
right to the lobby.

The girl at the administration
desk, Andrea.

Hey, honey, how'd you
like to be on TV?

Ready?

Ready! Let's go, hum it in!

All right!

What do you think of that?
Pretty good, beautiful, huh?

Not bad.

Really?

MARCO: That was really good.

Okay, come on. Show them what you can do,
big Chet.

Okay, one more. Show them
what you can do. Beautiful!

Did you see that? All right!

Hey, wow, right down
the middle, man!

Atta boy, Chet.

I always knew
I had athletic ability.

Well, do you think
you can do it again?

What, are you kidding?

Okay, show them what you can do.

Do it one more time
for them. Show them!

All right, show them
one more time.

STOKER: The man
with the golden arm.

MARCO: Yeah,
the man's got natural talent.

STANLEY: Okay, now that
we got that settled,

how about some dinner? You're
supposed to be cooking tonight here, Kelly.

Well, Cap, what if
I burn my fingers?

Yeah, Cap, listen, while he's in training,
he can't burn his fingers.

Well, I got an idea. How about Mike
and Marco cook the dinner, right?

BOTH: Wrong!

All right,
which one of you is going to pitch?

That's what I thought.

Hey, Chet, let me talk to you
about that pitching arm of yours.

It's only a ball game.

That's the way
it started out, anyhow.

[ALARM SOUNDING]

DISPATCHER: Squad 51,
man trapped in waterbed.

4793 North Santa Ana.

Cross street, Clovis.

Ambulance is at scene.
Time out, 1745.

STANLEY: Squad 51, 10-4.
KMG 365.

[SIREN WAILING]

MARION: In here.

Yes, ma'am.

ROY: Did you call us?

MARION: In here.
There's no hurry.

Right this way, boys.

Yeah, what's the problem?
WALTER: Don't touch the bed!

That's the problem.

Boy, can you say that again.

I told him, "Walter, don't you buy
that waterbed." Does he listen?

Marion, for heaven's sake.
I'm in pain.

Where exactly are you in pain?

MARION: Walter has a backache.

A lower lumbar herniated disc
is a lot more than a backache.

I've had it often
enough to know.

Oh, Walter,
you've had everything often enough to know.

Why'd you call us?

I called you. His doctor wants him in
the hospital, but he won't let us move him.

You touch a waterbed,
and it jiggles.

You know what jiggling
does to a herniated disc?

Yeah, it hurts. It hurts plenty.

I don't see how we're gonna get you out
of here without touching the bed, though.

I mean, we could have had
a wonderful weekend in Vegas.

But instead, Walter decides to buy
me a bed that gives me motion sickness.

Roy, you want to try
to go with the backboard?

ROY: Yeah.

Where's he going?
What're you gonna do?

He's gonna go get a back board.

That's a firm board, and we're just
gonna slide you right onto the board.

This thing will
start sloshing around.

You guys tried lifting him up
by the sheets, I guess, huh?

Yeah, but he went right
through the ceiling.

Don't touch the bed!

Oh, boys, this has been going
on since 8:30 this morning.

There is something
you can do, right?

Right, it's gonna take a little bit
of time. We'll just drain the bed.

With your permission, of course.

What? With his permission?

Well, I'm gonna do you
just one better than that.

I'm gonna...

Please, please! Marion, don't...

[MARION GIGGLING]

Cut it out.

Lord, I've wanted to do
that for such a long time.

[WALTER SOBBING]

JOHNNY: Easy, easy.

WALTER: Careful. Careful.
Please be careful. My back. Please.

ROY: All right,
all right, just relax.

Got him? See you later.

Thanks again.

Just doing our job.

WALTER: Where's Marion?

Uh, what was that all about?

Oh, she was just saying thanks.

What do you feel, Gus?

I feel lousy.

I mean, your fingers.

You're holding my hand.
I don't like it.

You're right, Kel.
Could be a toxic reaction.

Yeah, but what?

Any number of things.

[sums]

Weakness of the exterior
muscles of the left forearm,

seizures, irritation,
even psychotic behavior.

Now, wait a minute.

Connect that with an
acute abdominal syndrome.

Lead colic.

Right, since they've taken
the lead out of the paint,

we hardly even see it
in kids anymore.

He's got every symptom
of chronic lead poisoning.

Mike, call the lab. Have them check
his red cells for basophilic stippling.

And start a 24-hour
urine collection for lead.

There it is. The base of
the incisors and canines.

PETE: Lead line.

A textbook case.

Kel, positive on
basophilic stippling.

Start him on a three-percent solution
of calcium disodium edetate IV, slowly.

Mercy.

Gus, we've found the trouble.
We're gonna help you.

You miserable bunch of butchers.

Listen to me, Gus.
You've been ingesting lead.

We need to find out
where you've been getting it.

Go take a flying
jump to the moon.

Buy you a cup of coffee, Kel?

Well, another time, Pete.

I wanna find out where he got that
lead poisoning. Thanks for the help.

You made the diagnosis. I
just confirmed your suspicions.

Let me know how
it turns out, okay?

Will do.

Kel, a woman just brought her
husband in with the same symptoms.

Joe's got her in treatment 3.

Hey, Dix, they find out where
that lead's coming from yet?

Well, the second one's wife
is afraid to talk to anyone.

Seems he's a heavy drinker
and he beats her up all the time.

You know something? Chronic
lead poisoning is really rare.

And it's strange. Now,
we've had two in the same day.

Well, they both live
in the same neighborhood.

Maybe they're getting it
from the same source.

Dix, set up a three-percent solution of
calcium disodium edetate for IV administration.

Another one? You got it.

Normally, we'd take
them to the drunk t*nk.

But this guy, well, he threw
sort of a fit in the car,

so we thought we'd bring
him down here instead.

Where did you pick him up?

The 12000 block of Blackstone.

That's only about a mile from
where we picked up the first one.

Was he violent?

Not until we took his
fruit jar away from him.

Fruit jar?

Yes ma'am, you see,
when an alcy's on moonshine,

he carries it
around in a fruit jar.

Is that it? Yeah.

Let me see that.

Yeah, that's moonshine,
all right.

People in that area
can't afford Scotch.

We bust a couple
of stills a year there.

Carol, have the lab run a
screen on this for lead right away.

Right.

Doc, you understand
that's police evidence.

Yeah, I know. You'll get it
back in a few minutes.

Right now I think you better
notify the state authorities.

Looks like somebody's got a still
going and they're using an old car radiator

as a condenser,
or maybe lead piping.

Whichever it is,
they're turning out poisoned booze.

Whatever it is, I hope you
find it before it kills somebody.

OFFICER: Let's go.

This is Dr. Brackett. Get me the
Public Health Department, please.

So when you get to this point here, I mean,
you know you got it made after that.

I mean, you can just read it.

[JOHNNY EXHALES]

I hate to say this but, uh,
Chet, you're pretty good.

I have a funny feeling that
we're gonna m*rder those guys.

That's a good point,
Johnny. Now, uh...

Fellows, the secret to any
winning team is strategy.

Now, they think we
don't have a pitcher.

We're gonna let them
think they're right, right?

Now, I'm gonna walk the first
two guys to build their confidence.

Now, that's strategy.

And then when they get their confidence all
built up and they think they got it made,

pow, I let them have it.

Those pitches go over like a
blur of white right over the plate.

I hope that blur is headed toward
the catcher and not the outfield.

[SCOFFS]

Now, Marco,
you're the first baseman, right?

Yeah.

All right, I'm gonna teach you
how we pick off a man on first.

Okay, now, a man starts to
takes his lead-off, you cough.

[COUGHS] CHET: Cough.

Louder, Marco.

[COUGHS LOUDER]

Okay, now, this is my signal.

Now, if I don't wanna pick the man off,
I'm gonna use my regular wind-up.

Watch it, it's like this.

Huh?

Okay, now, if I want
to pick the guy off,

I'm going to...
Here's my wind-up.

You got it?

They both looked the same to me,
I'm sorry.

What do you mean they look the same, you
ninny? You don't know anything about baseball.

This is my first baseman?

Look...

Johnny, I'm sorry,
I'm not gonna wash his dishes tonight.

MARCO: Really, I mean it, now.

CHET: Look, you are selfish.
You expect me to wash dishes?

JOHNNY: Mike, stay out of this.

CHET: It's his game.
I'm not washing dishes.

[ALARM SOUNDING]

DISPATCHER: Station 51,
Engine 7, Engine 56.

Structure fire.

Possible person trapped.

815 Scully Road.

Cross street, Cedar.
Time out, 1805.

STANLEY: Station 51,

STANLEY: Okay, air masks,
then go in with inch-and-a-halfs.

Anybody inside there, Vince?

We can't find the guy.

We came here with a search warrant,
and he set fire to the place.

He must've went out
the back way. Real nut.

ROY: What have we got, Cap?

VINCE: Well, somebody
seems to be inside.

ROY: Looks like we got a
basement over here on the side.

Yeah, it's worth a try. John,
reel line and a lifeline.

JOHNNY: All right.

He's in there. Looks like he's
got some kind of a still in there.

VINCE: Yeah, those jugs
are full of moonshine.

They radioed us just
before you got here.

Rampart's treating three victims
of lead poisoning from that still.

You better stand
back here, all right?

Okay.

ROY: Can't tell if
he's conscious or not.

Looks like he's been drinking
some of his own poison.

Listen, make it fast. There's
enough alcohol in there

to blow this whole
place to toothpicks.

Roy, I'll get the lifeline.

All right.

Somebody wanna feed me
through the reel line there?

All right.

Hey, Johnny,
it looks like his legs are pinned.

DeSoto. Can you feed out
this line to me, Cap?

You got it?

ROY: Yeah.

He's got a r*fle.

Got him?

We got a fire up there.

Can you handle him okay?

He's out. He's out like a light.

JOHNNY: We better get
out of here, quick.

ROY: It's moving
through there fast.

Cap! They're gaining on us,
Cap! Can you hear me?

It's coming down
in fast, Johnny.

Okay, hang on, I'm almost done.

Cap, you ready out there?

Whenever you are.

Let me know when you need help.

Okay, maybe later.

ROY: Ready?

[GRUNTS]

Okay, I need help.
I need your help.

JOHNNY: Okay.
I'll take the feet.

JOHNNY: You got his head?

Okay, watch his back, now.

Grab his belt here. Watch out
for that glass along the pane.

Watch your shoulders. This
guy's kicking one of the feet.

Wait a minute, I'm hooked on,
I'm hooked on the...

Okay, go.

Got him?

Everyone get back!

All you guys, get back!

Rampart, this is Squad 51.

KELLY: Go ahead, 51.

Now you can tell them they don't
have to worry about their still anymore.

Morning.

Beautiful morning, isn't it?

Yeah, I guess so.

Hey, Roy, are you
still angry with me?

Yeah.

But I'll get over it.

Morning.

What do you say, Roy? Yeah,
hi, Roy, how are you?

Oh, pretty good.
How about yourself?

Good.

Hey, guys.
How you guys doing, huh?

Would you like some coffee?

JOHNNY: Enjoyed the game.

Really good game yesterday.

Real good game. Really enjoyed
those moves. Pretty good.

Hey, Marco, your batting
was nothing less than great.

Come on, Marco.

Well, what do you think of that?

Work with those guys for years,

side by side, through thick and thin,
hell and high water.

Give them my spare time,
teach them how to play baseball.

Get them ready for the big game.
What do they do? They snub you.

They snubbed me!

Just because another team comes along
that's a little bit better than they are,

b*at them by a couple of runs, and
they had to shell out a few extra bucks.

Well, I hardly think that

And $9 per man
is hardly a couple of bucks.

But I wouldn't worry about it. I
think they'll probably get over it.

Yeah, I know,
but it's the whole idea of...

Here comes the cause of it all.

Him I don't want to talk to.

Morning, Roy.

Morning, Chet.

You...

I'm not talking to you.

Oh, you're not talking to me?

Look, I had potential.
Everybody knew it. I was a natural.

And then in front of everybody,
I fell apart.

So that was my fault?

You coached me.
You blew it, Johnny.

I could've been a real champ.
