♪ With Dog ♪ And Sheep ♪ And Duck ♪ And Pig

♪ There's always a surprise! ♪

(barks)

KIDS: Word World!

(croaks)

(whimpers)

(giggles)

KIDS: Yay!

NARRATOR: 'Twas the night before Christmas in Word World,

and Frog had lots to do before his big Christmas party.

Good thing his friends, Duck and Dog, were there to help.

DUCK AND FROG: ♪ Deck the halls with bows of holly ♪

(Dog howls tune)

DUCK AND FROG: ♪ 'Tis the season to be jolly ♪

(howls tune)

(sneezes)

Whoa.

(quacking) (croaking)

(groaning)

(moaning)

We're okay, Dog, but we'd better get

these letters together so we can build our Christmas...

KIDS: Tree!

Yeah, a tree.

Ooh, pretty tree.

Come on, guys, let's trim the tree.

(barks) All right.

(humming)

Okay, hang up here.

Oh, it's gonna look so nice.

Oh, I love this one.

This is my favorite.

(gasps): It's beautiful.

(chattering)

What goes on top?

That's where we put

the most important ornament--

the Christmas Star.

Ooh.

Let me just get it.

Hmm, now, let's see.

(clanging)

Where is that thing?

(moaning)

What?

Hmm, I can't find it.

Oh, who needs a silly star anyway?

What?

Duck, the Christmas Star goes on top of the tree.

But why?

Because it's the most important decoration on the tree.

But why?

Because it's special.

But why?

Duck, it's so special because...

hmm... oh, yeah!

It's special, because every year at Christmastime,

the brightest, most beautiful star

of the season appears in the winter sky.

Ooh.

The star reminds us that it's Christmas.

Oh. (barking, panting)

And that's why we put a pretend star

on top of our tree.

So let's finish trimming,

and then I'll look for the star upstairs.

Wow, the Christmas Star.

(gasps)

What if I got the real Christmas Star for Frog's tree?

That would be the best gift ever for my best friend.

I'll do it!

You'll do what, Duck?

Huh? What? Oh, uh,

it's, um, a surprise.

Gotta go.

(humming "Deck the Halls")

DUCK: ♪ I'll get Frog the Christmas Star ♪

♪ We're best friends, that's what we are ♪

♪ Watch and you'll see

♪ I'll find that star, lasso it tight ♪

♪ Catch it tonight

♪ A present from me...

♪ I'll search the sky from end to end ♪

♪ Get that star for my best friend ♪

KIDS: Moon!

All right, let's see.

Uh, ooh, well, there's a star.

Uh, but that's a little one.

(gasps): There's one.

Eh, nope, little.

Where in Word World is the Christmas Star?

(groans)

NARRATOR: He waited and looked...

(sighs)

...and looked and waited

and waited and looked some more,

but the star was nowhere to be found.

(sighs)

Oh...

I don't think that Christmas Star is ever gonna come.

NARRATOR: It's getting late, Duck.

Maybe you should go to sleep.

But...

what about my present for Frog, Mr. Narrator?

NARRATOR: I'm sure Frog will understand.

But, if I don't catch that star,

then I won't have a present for Frog,

and he's my best friend.

(sniffles): Christmas will be ruined.

(jingling)

(gasps)

There it is!

There it is, the Christmas Star.

Oh, wow.

It's even prettier than Frog said.

I'm gonna catch it.

(grunting)

Whoa... whoa!

Come here, Star, you shiny little rascal.

I'm gonna get you, Christmas Star.

I'm gonna...

(fearful mumbling)

Whoa... (mumbling, quacking)

Oh, here we go.

(grunting)

Hoo-hoo!

Whoa!

(quacking) Wa-ha!

(laughing, quacking)

What's going on out there? (barks)

(Duck laughing)

Yee-haw!

Whoa, whoa, whoa!

Star-- whoa!

(yelping)

(groaning)

(gasps): Oh, no!

The Christmas Star...

(panting)

Oh, no, it's gone.

Oh, what am I gonna do now?

DUCK: ♪ The star is gone, it got away ♪

♪ I let down Frog

♪ What will he say?

♪ Now he will see...

(sniffles)

♪ There's no present from me.

(groaning, sniffling)

(quacking)

(sighs)

(snoring, quacking)

(whining)

NARRATOR: When Frog saw that Duck was sad,

he knew exactly what to do to cheer him up.

(gasps)

Come on, Dog.

(croaks) (barking)

Here you go, Dog.

We're going to need this.

KIDS: Cap!

Yeah, a cap.

(barking)

(croaks)

Ooh, looking good, Dog.

(barking)

Hmm, we need an S,

a T, an A,

and of course, an R.

It's beautiful, Dog.

Let's go!

(snoring)

(quacking)

(quacks) Oh.

Hmm. We have to be very quiet.

(quacking)

(snorting)

(sighing, snoring)

(quacking)

(quacks)

NARRATOR: So Duck dreamt the night away

while thoughts of the Christmas Star danced in his head,

but before Duck knew it, Christmas morning had come,

and his friends were starting to arrive for the celebration.

(giggles) (yawns)

Hey, why is Duck still sleeping?

Wake up, Duck.

It's Christmas!

What? Where am I?

(mutters): What day is it?

Well, it's Christmas, Duck.

ALL: Merry Christmas!

(whooping)

(quacks)

It's Christmas. It's Chri...

Oh, no.

It's Christmas.

(crying): Oh!

(quacking)

What's the matter, Duck?

(quacking, crying)

Oh, it's terrible.

I didn't get the Star.

Now my best friend doesn't have anything

to put on the top of his tree. Oh!

(crying)

What are you talking about, Duck?

(quacking, crying)

Oh?

(quacking)

There, there, Duck. Oh, no!

(quacking)

Duck, are you okay?

(sniffles): Frog, I'm sorry.

I tried to catch the Christmas Star for you.

I got a rope, and I tried to catch it,

and I almost had it, but it... got away.

What are we gonna put on top of the tree?

(crying, quacking)

Hey, what's that?

Where'd that come from?

(giggling) Oh.

Why don't you just open it, Duck?

(quacks)

Oh...

(gasps)

Just what I always wanted!

Beautiful Christmas thingamadoodles.

(quacks)

Those are letters, Duck,

and that can only mean one thing.

ALL: It's time to...

build a word!

KIDS: Star!

♪ Yeah, we just built a word

(quacks)

(grunts)

Hey, everyone.

You're just in time for the Rhyming Square Dance.

And after, we'll all go on a hayride.

(all grunting, music stops)

DUCK (gasps): Oh, no.

Um... where's the cart, Pig?

(gasps): The cart.

Oh, we broke the cart.

We can't go on a hayride without a cart.

Well, what are we going to do?

Don't worry.

We still have the letters.

We just need to... (music playing)

ALL: Build a word!

KIDS: Cart!

(Pig laughs)

(cheering)

♪ It's time for us to write Santa Claus a letter! ♪

Okay, WordFriends,

let's write our letters to Santa

so he knows what to bring us for Christmas.

Hmm.

♪ I've been good the whole year through ♪

♪ So Santa, what I ask from you... ♪

(squeaking)

KIDS: Sled!

Yes, a sled!

(laughs)

♪ Santa, please, a sled would be ♪

♪ The perfect present just for me... ♪

Hmm.

♪ Tomorrow I want something sweet ♪

♪ So, Santa, please bring me a treat... ♪

(squeaking)

KIDS: Cookie!

ANT: That's right.

A cookie!

♪ Santa won't you bring to me

♪ A big, delicious Christmas cookie? ♪

♪ I've waited all year for this special day ♪

♪ I want a new toy so I can play ♪

KIDS: Doll!

BEAR: Oh, yes, a doll!

♪ Santa, you know I've been good ♪

♪ Bring me a doll if you could.. ♪

♪ Yours truly

♪ Ant

♪ Bear

♪ Pig.

(barks)

(laughs): Okay, Dog,

what are you asking Santa to bring you for Christmas?

(barks and pants)

(humming)

A ball.

Oh, of course.

Oh, Dog, there's nothing you like more

than playing with a brand-new ball.

Uh-huh, uh-huh.

Hmm, Dog, you need

two "L"s to make the word "ball."

Just like you need two "L"s to make the word "doll."

See? D-O-L-L.

Oh...

Here, Dog. Let me show you.

KIDS: Ball!

(barks)

(laughs): Oh, you're welcome, Dog.

Now, let's send these letters to Santa.

♪ Up the chimney our wishes take flight ♪

♪ And now it's time to say good night. ♪

ANT, PIG & BEAR: Good night, Dog.

(barks "good night")

NARRATOR: That night as everyone slept...

...Santa delivered the presents

down all the WordFriends' chimneys.

(Pig and Ant snoring)

KIDS: Sled!

Cookie!

(both gasping)

Oh! Oh, boy, oh, boy, oh, boy!

Swe-eet!

(bells jingle)

KIDS: Doll!

(gasps)

Oh! Oh-ho-ho-ho!

Oh, she's perfect.

(bells jingle)

(clanks, thuds)

NARRATOR: Uh-oh! It looks like one of the letter "L"s

for Dog's present didn't make it into the chimney.

(whimpers)

Huh?

Merry Christmas, Dog!

Look at my new doll.

Isn't she perfect?

Oh, see her pretty bow?

Mm-hmm.

What's the matter, Dog? (whimpers)

B-A-L-- oh, no!

You need two "L"s to make the word "ball."

Mm-hmm.

Just like you need two "L"s to make the word "doll."

D-O-L-L.

And you only have one "L."

That's why it's not morphing into a ball.

(groans)

Hmm. Well, maybe we can find you another "L" for your ball.

Come on. Let's go.

(groans)

NARRATOR: So Bear and Dog set out to find an "L"

that would fix the ball.

There's got to be some "L"s around here somewhere.

Right, Dog? (barks agreeably)

Hey!

Oh, Merry Christmas, Pig.

Merry Christmas to you, too.

Check out my new sled.

It's just what I wanted.

(grunts): Whee!

(laughs)

Merry Christmas, Sheep.

Oh, this is fun!

Look at Pig go.

That looks like fun.

Wow! Oh, that's really a nice sled, Pig.

I was just about to eat my Christmas present--

ANTS: Yummy cookie.

oh, yeah, yeah, some for you, and, uh, and you,

and you, and you and... whew.

Thank you, Ant. Merry Christmas.

(all chewing)

Gee, Ant, you gave away your whole cookie.

There's none left for you.

I know, but even though I like Christmas cookies,

I like giving stuff to others even better.

After all, giving is what Christmas is all about.
