stuff.

Here they are, Elinor!

More cushions for our couch

cushion castle.

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa!

[Giggling]

And a few more blankets.

[Giggling]

This is going to be the best

couch cushion castle ever!

Hmm...

Yeah!

Let's get all the pillows we

can!

I have so many different

ideas for the castle!

It's going to have a slide...

and a telescope, and a big

window for ant-watching!

OLIVE: I've got some ideas,

too!

I want a room for my crayons,

a room for my sparkles,

and a giant room full of books!

You mean a library?

Yes!

My very own library!

Ooh!

I have ideas, too!

I want a drawbridge, a

racetrack.

Oh, and a bubble fountain!

Yes!

[Giggling]

Okay!

Let's start building!

Whoops, sorry!

Olive, that's supposed to be

my slide.

But it's the perfect shape

for the wall of my crayon room.

But I need it for my slide.

You guys, let's not fight

over the pillows.

Ari, are you okay?

Never mind!

Pillow fight!

ALL: Pillow fight!

Oof, that was fun!

Aww, but we haven't finished

building our castle!

Yeah, we kept bumping into

each other, and we also kept

taking each other's cushions by

accident.

And I had trouble

lifting the big cushion.

Hmm, we need a better way to

build our castle.

What do you think, Elinor?

Elinor?

What are you looking at?

Whoa!

Are those ants?

Uh-huh.

Look!

They're all carrying something.

They're carrying things, just

like we were carrying our

cushions.

Cool!

I wonder why they're doing

that.

[Gasping]

I know!

Let's follow them outside.

Mom, we'll be outside.

Boing!

Whee!

A-ha!

Whoa!

Wow, look at that!

There are so many!

Hmm...

Where are they carrying all that

stuff?

Can I take a look?

Sure, Olive!

Hmm...

Oh!

Wow!

Here, try the magnifying

glass.

[Humming]

Whoa!

Hmm...

Wow!

Look at that!

This is why the ants were

carrying all those sticks and

leaves!

They're building something.

It looks like they're

building a hill.

But how can those tiny ants

build something so much bigger

than them?

It's an anthill!

I read about it in one of my

books.

I'll go get it!

Why do they even need an

anthill?

I mean, what's going on in

there?

Oh, look, you can see the

ants going in and out of the

hill!

"Look at this big hill we

built!

And I'm just a little ant!"

If you're an ant, then I must

be an uncle!

Look!

I'm waving my ant-enna!

And I'm not wearing p-ants!

[Laughing]

I've got it!

It's here in my Nature Book.

There's a part here that's all

about ants!

Lots of ants live in big places

called anthills.

Most anthills are made of dirt,

but some also use sticks and

pieces of grass.

ELINOR: Ooh...

OLIVE: Anthills have rooms

for sleeping, rooms for taking

care of babies...

[Babies crying]

...and even special places where

they keep the trash.

Wow!

Is that all happening inside

there?

Yup!

Most of the anthill is

underground.

It's kind of like we're looking

at the roof.

Hello, little ant.

[Giggling]

That is so interesting!

But how can these tiny ants

make a hill so much bigger than

them?

Yeah, especially when we

can't even build a pillow

castle, and we're big!

Hmm....

I'm not sure.

Hmm...

Let's watch the ants, and maybe

we can figure it out!

We need more observations!

Look, the ants walk in a line,

back and forth from the anthill.

Yeah, some are moving towards

the anthill, but others are

walking away from it.

Oh, the ants are leaving to

get things and then they're

bringing them back.

And they aren't bumping into

each other, like when we got

all the cushions from around

Elinor's house.

Yeah, and look!

That ant is having trouble

carrying that stick.

It's so big.

ARI: It got help!

The ants are helping each

other.

More ants means that they can

carry bigger things!

Yeah, I wish someone had

helped me with that big couch

cushion before.

It was really heavy!

Hmm.

Wow, they make the anthill

together.

And they don't fight over the

things they bring!

Helping each other is the only

way these tiny ants can build

this amazing anthill.

They also share their

building material.

We didn't do that.

We tried to build too many

things and we ended up taking

from each other, instead of

helping each other.

That's it!

I know how we're going to build

our castle!

How, Elinor?

We have to act like ants!

Okay, ant builders, let's build

our castle!

Awesome!

We worked together, just like

the ants!

Yeah!

We helped each other, and we

shared the pillows.

And we made an amazingly

awesome, incredible ant hill

castle!

[Giggling]

I got my slide!

I got my library!

And I got my drawbridge!

We did it!

But ants, we've got two more

piece to move!

Oh, yeah!

[Giggling]

Perfect!

Awesome!

An ant watching window -

now, we can see our little ant

friends.

All ants into the castle!

[Giggling]

Yay!

[All laughing]

Miss Mole, Miss Mole, we have

a question about ants.

I do love questions from my

little scientists.

We saw some ants walking

together and they looked so much

alike, we thought they might be

brothers.

We wondered, do ants even

have brothers and sisters?

That's a wonderful question,

and it reminds me that it's time

for our story, which is all

about ant families.

Ants do have brothers and

sisters, and mothers, too!

Why's that book so big, Miss

Mole?

It has lots of "ant-swers" in

it.

Get it?!

About ants!

[All laughing]

I'll show you.

ARI: Wow.

Ant nests are really big

under the ground.

There's room for thousands of

ants.

Why is that ant so much

bigger than the other ants, Miss

Mole?

MISS MOLE: Because that big

ant is the mother of the smaller

ants.

ELINOR: Does she take care of

them?

MISS MOLE: Actually, the

little workers take care of

their mother.

She's called the queen ant.

Does she get to wear a crown?

No, but she gets to spend all

day with her helpful children.

ARI: All those ants are

brothers and sisters?

MISS MOLE: Yes!

They are one very big family!

[Laughing]

I wonder what it's like to

have a queen.

If my mom was queen, I'd be a

prince.

You're all princes and

princesses to me!

[Wind gusting]

ELINOR: "Special Places."

[Wind gusting]

Hello!

Anybody in here?

Let's go, Elinor!

We're almost at Ari's house.

I can't wait!

Ari say he has a brand new ball

he wants us to play with.

We're here!

[Giggling]

[Knocking]

ARI: I'll get it!

Elinor!

Olive!

Thanks for coming over.

Bye, Mom!

Bye, Dad!

I'm going out to show my friends

my brand new super bouncy ball!

Let's go play, c'mon!

Hmm...

Ta-da!

My brand new super bouncy ball!

Ooh.

How high do you think it'll

bounce?

As high as my trunk can

Yeah, it's not always easy to

find stuff in your room.

Well, what do you mean?

My room is really neat!

That's because your furniture

is on the ceiling and all your

stuff falls here on the floor.

I can't help it!

I'm a bat, and bats sleep on the

ceiling.

[Giggling]

[Sighing]

It's pretty messy.

How can we find the ball in

here?

How can we find anything in

I usually just root around

until I find something.

Just start digging.

Oh, yeah!

But that's not the ball.

Ooh, this is cool, but nope.

Hmm...

Is this the bouncy ball?

Well, the good news is the

ball's not here!

Why is that good news?

If we know where the ball

isn't, then we know where the

ball is!

So, now we know!

But "somewhere else" could be

anywhere else in the whole

world!

It could take years to find it!

Well, I haven't been

everywhere in the world, so it's

got to be around here...

somewhere.

I have an idea!

Let's go back to all the places

you've been today and see if we

can find the ball.

Think back, Ari.

When was the last time you had

it?

Hmm...

I had it this morning when I got

up.

Then, I got dressed.

And then, I went outside to play

with my ball!

Okay, let's go outside!

So, you came out to the yard

with your ball.

What did you do out here?

Let's see.

Hmm...

Oh!

Mmm...

These apples are so good.

Want one?

Not right now, thanks.

Maybe later.

Mmm...

I remember now!

My dad asked me to rake the

leaves!

Hmm...

Do you think the ball is in that

leaf pile?

There's only one way to find

ELINOR: Yay, yay, yay!

Woo-hoo!

[Whooping]

[Laughing]

Well, that was fun.

Mm-hmm.

But we didn't find the ball.

Where else can we look?

I don't know.

I go to a lot of places.

Hmm...

OLIVE: You can't remember

where you left it?

Ooh.

ARI: I'm trying.

[Olive and Ari giggling]

Ooh!

It's a bird's nest.

You're making a special place to

keep your eggs nice and safe,

aren't you, Mama Bird?

Wait, I remember something

else.

Before I could rake the leaves,

I had to go find the rake behind

the house.

Then, maybe that's where you

left the ball?

Come on, let's look!

Ooh!

I remember this is exactly where

I was standing when I did my

super-amazing "toss and spin"

move.

Watch!

Whoa, whoa!

Ta-da!

It's even more impressive with

an actual ball.

[Laughing]

I didn't catch the actual ball,

though.

I dropped it around here.

Maybe it rolled over this

way.

There's no ball, but here's the

rake!

This rake?

[Gasping]

That rake is broken.

Oh, right, now, I remember.

Our rake is broken, so I had to

borrow another rake from our

neighbor Mr. Dog.

There it is!

Okay, let's see...

You went outside with the ball,

then your dad asked you to rake

the leaves, but the rake was

broken, so then you went to

borrow a rake from Mr. Dog.

But don't forget, I did the

spin and catch move, too.

[Gasping]

Whoa!

Ta-da!

[Giggling]

Maybe we should look for the

ball at Mr. Dog's house!

And we can return Mr. Dog's

rake.

I bet he would like that!

[Sighing]

ELINOR: Hi!

Oh.

Hey, kids, what's up?

I brought back your rake,

Mr. Dog.

Thanks for letting me borrow it.

It's nice to have everything

back in its proper place.

Uh, Mr. Dog, did I leave my

new super-bouncy ball here?

Oh, sorry.

I haven't seen your ball.

[Squeaking]

Uh, Mr. Dog, why do you

bury your chew-toys?

Aren't they for chewing?

Good question, Elinor.

We dogs love to put things away,

and that's why we bury them.

We keep them safe in their

special place.

That way, we know exactly where

to find them when we need them!

Another special place?

Hmm....

That is so interesting!

What is it, Elinor?

I'm figuring something out.
