[narrator] The babies are playing on the playground,

enjoying a beautiful day.

Oh! Hi, big kids. I’m Lulu.

Let’s find the other babies. Come, come!

[imitating airplane]

Here’s Franny. She’s so fast.

I sure am. Cheetah speed!

-Cheetah speed! -[imitating airplane]

Silly Franny.

Hi, Bail Bail.

-Oh, hi. -That’s Bailey. He’s an elephant.

Yep. I sure am.

That means "hello."

Tilly is a baby tortoise

who speaks a language called Mandarin.

Okay. I found my friends.

We’re not enough babies. Where’s Kip?

We better go look for him.

We can’t find Kip anywhere.

Oh, I’m looking for the Whatsit Toy.

Yeah, he has a surprise for me,

-but I lost him. -[engine revving]

[chuckles] Okay. Here we go.

-Wow! -[Tilly] Ahh!

[Lulu laughing]

-Yay. -Ooh.

-[Franny] Bounce! -[Kip] Oh!

-Oh. -That’s what I do.

-Wow. My turn, my turn! -I wanna play.

Sure. Bouncy balls for everyone.

[all cheering]

Here’s some for you, and some for you.

-Some for you. -Thank you.

-And some for you. -Bouncy balls!

Oh, wait, um,

I-I don’t think we all have the same number of bouncy balls. Look.

Yeah, it’s not fair if we have a different number.

Yeah, no fair, Kip.

Uh, well, everyone has some bouncy balls, so, uh,

so that’s fair.

Tilly’s right. No.

It’s not fair.

-Is. -Isn’t.

-Is! -[trumpeting]

Um, let’s not fight.

It’s not nice to fight.

[music playing]

[Bailey trumpets]

This isn’t a word problem.

This is a "how many" problem.

Yeah, Franny’s right, but, um,

who do we call for a "how many" problem?

-Oh, where’s he going? -[beeping]

[narrator] Babies, this is Word Wally’s cousin Math Molly.

-Hello. -Oh, hi, Math Molly.

[narrator] Math Molly can help you with any kind of math problem.

Oh, good, but, uh, what’s math?

[narrator] Math is numbers and shapes and more.

Can Math Molly make the bouncy balls fair?

Well, let’s go see.

Yeah, come on. Let’s go.

[overlapping chatter]

Come on, big kids. Hurry, hurry, hurry!

[narrator] The babies are here to use math to solve a problem.

Yeah, and I’ve got a big problem, so let’s start. [chuckles]

Oh, that’s how many bouncy balls I had.

Big kids, how many is that?

-[kids] One! -I see one bouncy ball.

Hmm.

Ooh, and that’s how many Tilly and I had.

Big kids, how many is that?

-[kids] Two! -That’s more than Lulu had.

Uh, oh, um, sorry, Lulu.

Oh, it’s okay, Kippie.

Okay. [chuckles]

Oh. That’s how many I had.

How many is that?

[kids] Three!

Three bouncy balls.

More than everyone else.

Yeah, I guess that isn’t fair.

Yeah. We didn’t all have the same number.

Well-- well, I’ll fix that.

-Fair? -Yeah, Lulu.

I’m gonna make it fair.

Now that we solved this problem,

we can have a...

[all] Word party!

Yeah, but, well, this was a math problem.

Oh, right. Well, uh, I guess it’s time for a...

[all] Math party!

[cheering]

-Whoa! Here it goes! -[chattering]

[cheering]

[Lulu] Go, Bailey!

[music playing]

Look! Party-in-a-box.

Oh, wait. Do you want to have a bounce party with us?

Oh, can we? Can we?

Oh, Clickety Clock.

What time is it, big kids?

Is it time to party?

[dinging]

Yay!

-[cheering] -It is time to party!

Let the bounce party begin!

[cheering]

-And bounce. -Bounce!

[chatter continues]

Bounce party!

Good one, Lulu!

Good job, Tilly!

[music continues]

[chatter continues]

Hey, bye, big kids. Thank you for helping me.

Bounce with us. Come on!

-Bounce. -Kip, you’re missing the party.

Oh, okay. I gotta go. Bye. Bye-bye.

-Whoo-hoo! -Yeah.

♪ I’m happy to be flying up very high ♪

♪ Here in my applesauce sky ♪

Oh, hi, birdie.

[bird chirping]

[Franny] Bailey.

-Huh? -[Franny] It’s time to eat.

I wasn’t really flying.

I was using my imagination.

Problem solved. Bailey’s happy now.

These are just apples, not applesauce.

Ah, right.

I knew that.

Maybe we can turn these apples

into applesauce.

But I’m not sure how.

Hmm.

[narrator] Babies, I have a surprise for you.

[gasps]

Meet our new robot, Cookitybot.

Cookitybot can help you make lots of foods,

including applesauce.

-Hi, Cookitybot. -Wow.

[narrator] And Cookity can show you what ingredients you need

and how much of each ingredient to use.

Let’s see. We need one spoonful of lemon juice.

[gasps] And one spoonful of cinnamon.

And lots of apples!

We’re gonna make our very own applesauce!

[cheering]

I was sad, but I’m happier now.

Are you happy enough

to do the happy dance?

That’s a bunch of apples.

So we need a bunch of apples.

-Yeah. -Take this one.

Give it to you.

-That one here. -Okay.

-Another apple. Thank you. -Yeah.

And more apples. Thank you.

And even more apples. Thank you.

Guys? Uh, guys?

That-- That’s a lot of apples.

Just like the picture says!

-I think it’s too many apples. -Stop.

-Stop. -Another apple.

Tilly is saying stop.

But a bunch of apples means a lot.

-Stop! -Whoa.

You’re putting too many apples into Cookitybot.

We need to use the right number of apples.

Oh, did you say number?

[all] Math Molly!

[trumpeting]

There she is.

-Oh, good. -[overlapping chatter]

Stay here. We’ll be back very soon to make applesauce.

-[narrator] The babies are here to use math to solve a problem.

And when you do math, you have to stop and think.

Yeah, let’s think, think, think.

-[Bailey] That’s one apple. -[Kip] Yeah.

-[Bailey] That’s two apples. -[Kip] Ooh, I love them.

That’s a lot of apples.

Oh, that’s how many apples Cookity says we need

to make applesauce.

But I’m not sure how many that is.

[narrator] Babies, when you can’t tell how many there are,

you can always count to find out.

Ooh.

-Big kids, can you help us count? -Yeah.

Four apples!

Now we know we need four apples

to make my applesauce.

We solved the math problem.

That was the best applesauce I’ve ever had.

Good. Yay!

I’m so lucky.

Why? Because you just had the best applesauce?

Oh, yeah, that.

But also because my best friends helped me make it.

-Aww. -Aww, Bailey.

We like it when you’re happy.

All this applesauce talk makes me want to sing.
