Expand our search beyond New Orleans.

These are all the errant b*llet deaths and injuries from over the past few months.

Why don't you take away any injuries to the top of the head, shoulders and feet?

Which indicates celebratory g*nf*re.

And any incidents where the b*llet may have ricocheted off of a nearby surface.

Targeted sh**t in Seguin, Beaumont and New Orleans.

Moving east along the I- corridor, all within the last month.

All k*lled by a .

- slug to the chest.

Too coincidental not to be related.

We're dealing with a serial sn*per, Pride.

The first victim's name is Paul Wright, -year-old bank manager from Seguin, outside of San Antonio.

He was sh*t coming out of a laundromat.

Local police have any theories?

There were no cameras outside of the laundromat, but there was local g*ng activity at the time.

Police ruled it a stray b*llet from a drive-by.

Second victim is Bea Jefferson, a -year-old retired waitress from Beaumont.

k*lled walking home from the post office.

Teenagers are known to pop off sh*ts in the surrounding woods, so the investigation didn't go far.

HANNAH: Both theories make perfect sense until you take into account Petty Officer Langford.

Ballistics in all three sh**t point to a s-era hunting r*fle.

Okay.

So three is a pattern.

That enough for you to work up a profile?

Not even close.

There are no commonalities between the victims.

They're different ages, races, professions.

What about the blue paint at the crime scene?

Our only clue so far is that he's traveling.

GREGORIO: Or she.

Female spree K*llers are rare, but we can't rule out the possibility just yet.

They...

were traveling east in a blue vehicle.

Which makes our suspect pool too large right now.

Uh, hang on, though.

We...

We've only been looking at fatalities.

Even the best sn*pers in the world miss from time to time.

Exactly.

So, what if we pulled up any unsolved non-fatal g*nsh*t wounds...

These are all the deaths along the I- , and these are all the victims who survived the sh**ting.

What's the date on the sh**ting in Baton Rouge?

Two weeks ago.

CARTER: Time and location puts it right between Bea Jefferson's death in Beaumont and Petty Officer Langford's in New Orleans.

Fits the pattern.

HANNAH: Victim's name is Ted Jacobi.

He was sh*t in the arm.

Police say he didn't get a good look at the sh**t.

It remains unresolved.

Okay.

Let's track down Mr. Jacobi, see if he's willing to come in and talk to us.

You and Sebastian start reviewing traffic cams in that area around the time of the sh**ting.

See if there's a blue vehicle.

Knock, knock.

Hope I'm not interrupting.

Um, I'm hoping you can help me.

You did a lot of work with the homeless when you volunteered at the free clinic.

- I did.

- One of our regulars at the pantry seems to be missing.

His name is Dan.

Don't have a last name.

Maybe you'd know how to track him down?

Jimmy and I are trying to find him, just make sure he's okay.

Well, in my experience, some people without homes don't always want to be found.

Well, what little I know about Dan, it doesn't seem like he's trying to hide.

Mostly, he's trying to help other folks.

Sounds like a good man.

Yeah.

Seen him for months.

I just never thought to ask his last name or any details about his life.

No, b*ating yourself up is not gonna do anything to solve the inequities of homelessness or help find him.

True enough.

Well, uh, let's focus on the problem we have right in front of us.

I'll call the clinic.

If Dan was a patient there, they could give us a welfare check.

Thank you.

And they'll also, uh, look for John Does matching that description.

Oh, I hadn't considered that.

Sadly, I, uh, see it all too often.

Hi, Ted.

I'm Special Agent Khoury.

You can call me Hannah.

This is Special Agent Gregorio.

Tammy.

Thanks for coming down here to talk with us today.

Uh, this have something to do with the person who sh*t me?

You catch him?

No, but we're investigating some other sh**t that we think may be related to yours.

We need to ask you some questions.

We can go at your pace, and if it ever feels like too much, we can stop.

Yeah, okay.

Tell us what you were doing on the side of that highway when you were sh*t.

Um... changing a tire.

Uh, I'd run over a screw or somethi...

I-I told the other officers all about it.

Yeah, but we'd like to hear it in your own words.

Details lost in a traumatic moment are often remembered later.

I didn't see anything.

Uh...

I just turned around to put the flat in my trunk, and then I felt this, um, searing pain in my arm.

I didn't understand what had happened at first.

Uh, the b*llet went through my shoulder and...

and-and splintered my collarbone.

You said you turned around - before you were sh*t, right?

- Yeah.

Uh, the ER doc at the hospital called me lucky.

Said if I hadn't turned, the b*llet would have hit my jugular.

It was more than luck that saved your life.

Well, I-I don't feel so lucky.

I can't work.

I can't hold my kids.

(SNIFFLES)

I can't get behind the wheel without having a panic att*ck.

We understand, Ted.

You've been really helpful.

Thank you.

Look, whoever did this to me...

It's not right they're still walking free.

The time, the location, the ballistics line up exactly with other sn*per att*cks.

But?

But the man was standing there in plain view.

Front, back, it didn't matter.

His center mass was on full display.

So the sh**t's aim was off.

Said yourself every sn*per makes the occasional mistake.

I did, but our sh**t doesn't make this kind of mistake.

Hey, Pride, it's me again.

Uh, I have something you need to see.

Again.

This the footage from Baton Rouge PD?

Yeah, and more.

So, local PD didn't realize that they were supposed to be searching for a sn*per that was experienced, right?

So they only pulled traffic cam footage from the surrounding area of the sh**ting.

They figured the sh*t came from a moving vehicle that was rolling up behind Ted.

SEBASTIAN: Right.

But now we know that our suspect prefers a stationary sh*t from at least yards away.

Locals weren't looking far enough out.

Mm-hmm.

This is the moment Ted got sh*t, taken from a nearby traffic cam.

And this is from a fast food restaurant security cam off an exit half a mile out.

Now, lab says that we should be looking for a blue vehicle that was manufactured around the year .

- Like this one?

- Yeah.

This pickup passes in front of the camera a few seconds after Ted was sh*t.

Whoever's driving this truck could be our sn*per, possibly fleeing the scene.

So, see if you can pull up the plate, get us a name.

I'll get a BOLO out.

Okay, thanks anyways, Loretta.

Take it Dan wasn't a patient at the clinic.

No.

Good news is she didn't find him in any area morgues, either.

Well, this is his neighborhood.

We checked the Y, community center, the park where he hands out food.

Nobody's seen him in days.

- (SIGHS)

- It's like the man just disappeared.

Well, someone can't just disappear.

Maybe we need to start checking other areas.

Now, this dude is always over here.

The sun was in your eyes.

Bird flew by.

Okay, sure.

No, I think I was just off about you.

I think those other k*ll sh*ts were you getting lucky.

(EXHALES)

You think you got me all figured out, huh?

No.

That's why I'm here.

Well..

I got nothing more to say.

RITA: Thanks for seeing us, Presley.

PRESLEY: Only got a few minutes before I have to be back at my register.

Dan all right?

I hope so.

He's gone missing.

We're trying to find him.

Any chance he reached out to you?

Oh, I haven't seen or spoken to Dan in at least a year.

- Do you mind if I get off my feet?

- Yes, of course.

How did he end up on the streets?

Six months after our divorce, he was diagnosed with a pretty serious case of hypothyroidism.

Was he getting treatment?

Didn't know until it was too late.

By that time, he'd spiraled into depression.

Lost his job and his health insurance.

He was too proud to tell anyone at first.

When I finally found out, I tried to help.

G-Give him some money.

Seemed so defeated.

The Dan we know doesn't seem defeated.

I mean, since the pandemic, he's been coming into our food pantry every week.

Yeah, running groceries.

Helping out the locals any way he can.

He always had a charitable heart.

Can you tell us anything Dan liked to do before he got sick?

Um, hobbies or where he might go?

Piano.

Drove me crazy playing late into the night.

Found out later he sold his baby grand trying to keep up with the mortgage.

"Keeper of the Keys." Uh, someone wrote that about Dan.

- (PHONE CHIMES)

- Oh.

I have to get back to the store.

Please, find him.

Even though we went our separate ways, I still care.

Pride.

FBI's here for Sam.

We have to hold onto him.

I'm telling you, there's more to this story.

Sorry, they won't bend.

They say we got our confession on Petty Officer Langford.

- Now it's their turn.

- Hear me out.

Lab found at least sets of DNA in Sam's truck, including his.

Anything else?

Uh, g*nsh*t residue in the camper near the side window.

I figure that's his preferred nest.

What about the front of the cab?

Driver's side.

Any GSR there?

No, just in the back.

Why?

(DOOR OPENS)

Sam never took that sh*t at Ted Jacobi.

He didn't take any of those sh*ts.

- Didn't he just confess?

- Only one thing that he said wasn't a lie.

He said that his foot slipped on the gas pedal when Jacobi turned around.

He was driving the truck.

The sh**t was in the back.

Sam was working with a partner.

Wait!

We need another word with...

(SHOUTS)

(INDISTINCT RADIO TRANSMISSION)

NOPD says there's no sign of the sh**t.

Playing piano made Dan happy.

And he got rid of his before he was homeless.

Where might he go to play in peace?

Well, there's pianos all over this city.

Bars, clubs, churches.

Well, sure, but Dan couldn't play one that's in use.

What about abandoned ones?

I mean, there's plenty of churches around here not in use right now.

Especially in New Orleans East.

We could have walked right by him without even knowing.

Exactly.

They must have traveled in two cars.

I had the same thought and I'm way ahead of you guys.

So I ran the plates from all the vehicles that were at the campground where you guys picked up Sam.

Only two of them were registered to Texas, which is where Sam's from.

One of them was an elderly lady in an RV.

The other one was Tanner Chambers. , employee at the Foundry Steel Corporation.

Well, that's the same manufacturing plant that Sam worked at.

This is our sn*per.

Yeah.

Tanner grew up in Texas.

He worked at Foundry Steel his whole life until they restructured because of the pandemic, and they laid off him along with a dozen others.

Let me guess: including Sam.

Judging by his social media, he's a narcissist.

He blames the government, big business, liberal media for all his problems.

The world is out to get him.

The sh**t started a few weeks after Tanner and Sam lost their jobs.

Well, judging by his sh**ting, Tanner's clearly an expert.

What's Sam's excuse?

Textbook grooming.

Sam was always an outcast, easy to manipulate, and Tanner made him feel special.

Sam liked Tanner's attention.

And Tanner liked having someone to control.

When Tanner thought that Sam...

was gonna turn him in, he turned his follower into his next target.

But what about these other targets?

I mean, Tanner didn't have any connection to these victims.

Tanner's parents have been deceased for years, but it says right here he has a sister in Buffalo.

I'm gonna give her a call.

- Was he always angry?

- No.

We were best friends when we were little, but he shut down around the age of ten.

Why then?

What happened?

We came to Texas.

Mom and Dad worked factory jobs, but you know what the economy was like back then.

Plants were always shutting down.

We were constantly on the move.

Had to be hard on all of you.

I thought it was kind of fun...

Going to new places, meeting new people, but I was so young.

Guessing Tanner didn't find it as fun, huh?

He had a hard time making friends.

We-We'd be in one place for a while, move on.

It was hard on Mom and Dad, too.

He saw that.

Focused all his energy on Dad.

They spent a lot of time hunting.

Your father taught him to sh**t?

My dad tried to channel Tanner's anger into the hunt.

But my dad got sick once we moved to Beaumont.

You lived in Beaumont?

For a year or so.

Where else did your family move to?

JIMMY: Now, the neighbors said they heard organ music coming from inside the other day.

Dan?

Yo, Dan, you in here?

(MAN GROANING IN DISTANCE)

Hold on.

You hear that?

Yeah.

- (LIGHT CLATTERING)

- (GROANING CONTINUES)

Dan?

DAN (WEAKLY): I'm up here.

Dan.

Come on, come on.

Dan!

I'm up here.

Hey.

Hey!

You okay, man?

You all right?

Been better.

(CHUCKLES)

My leg.

Okay, um, we're here now, so don't worry.

- Keep him talking.

- Hey, stay with me, man.

Tell me what happened.

Came to play the organ a few days ago.

Tripped on the way down.

I need an ambulance.

Children of Grace Church.

Uh, block of Bullard.

Uh, and please hurry.

You know when they say "break a leg," they don't mean it literally.

(BOTH LAUGH)

It's not the people Tanner's been targeting, it's the locations.

He's k*lling someone in every town his family lived in when he was growing up.

Well, because, to him, every time he moved, it was another rejection.

The FBI said that there's no sign of Tanner or his truck in New Orleans.

They think that he just skipped town after he k*lled Sam.

Except he's not done yet.

There's one more target on his list.

His sister said that these were all the places they ever lived.

Well, these are all the places that he moved, not where it started.

He's going home.

Where's home?

Mobile.

Mobile PD spotted Tanner Chamber's truck just down the block.

According to Tanner's sister, their parents owned a furniture store at this very location.

Lost it in ' .

Now it's this building, under renovation.

Tanner can sh**t from yards.

There's endless targets around here.

Can't look for a target.

We need to focus on the sn*per's nest.

All right, well, let's find him before he pulls the trigger.

PRIDE: All right, everyone, we need to move quickly, keep a low profile.

Tanner doesn't know that we're on to him.

If he sees any law enforcement, he may open fire.

Get with local PD.

Start clearing the area, quietly, but be careful.

He could be anywhere in this building, Pride.

All right, how do you want to play this?

You two take the top floors and clear every room; We'll take the roof.

Clear.

He's not here.

Seventh floor clear.

Possible target at the southwest corner of the baseball field.

Just like Tanner's family.

NCIS.

Drop the w*apon.

- It's too late.

- PRIDE: No one else has to die here.

- You don't get it.

- GREGORIO: You're in pain, Tanner.

A lot of us are.

You are not alone.

Sure, I'm not.

I spoke to Crista.

You spoke to my sister?

She told us about growing up, and how hard it was for you.

PRIDE: What you're doing now isn't gonna make the pain go away.

Don't knock if you haven't tried it.

Paul Wright.

Bea Jefferson.

Dustin Langford.

k*lling them change anything for you?

Not like I thought it would,

- but...

- Then why hurt anyone else?

I am a hunter.

And I turned my back on who I am for too long.

So what?

You take out some other kid's dad, make him suffer?

Is that what your dad taught you?

Don't talk about my dad.

Fletcher Chambers was a good man.

Loved his kids.

He got sick and his company, they didn't help him.

And then he d*ed, alone, and he left us.

You don't have to go out the same way, Tanner.

Do the right thing.

Step away and end this peacefully.

I'll put mine down, too.

That's it.

Nice and easy.

GREGORIO: Good.

Now I'm gonna ask you to slowly put your hands behind your head.

Do what she says.

What are you...

No, no!

Suspect down.

You did good today.

Saved a man's life.

Sounds like you did, too.

(SHORT CHUCKLE)

Yeah, my situation was messier.

Still, look at us...

Saving the world on two fronts.

Three, once you get to Kansas City.

Haven't decided to take the job.

No?

There's a lot to think about.

For instance?

For instance, I'm kind of wondering what you think.

Well, I think that...

(CLEARS THROAT)

you need to make your own decision.

I don't want to be

- the one to...

- But it's not just my decision, Dwayne.

There are two of us here, and we're together now.

I'm not gonna up and leave without discussing

- something...

- I don't want you to go.

I've waited for so long to have what we have right now.

I never been happier.

Me, either.

I mean, if you want to go for the job...

I turned it down.

When?

Right away.

- (LAUGHS)

- What?

Isn't-isn't it what you wanted?

Part of me did, I guess, but I want this more.

Just to be clear...

"This" means "us." Yes, Dwayne. Us.

We done talking?

Nope.

Just wanted to get s...

s...

s...

uh...

It's in your sock drawer.

Wh...

(LAUGHS)

I saw you hide it last night, and so I wanted to sneak a peek, and I probably put it back in the wrong drawer.

(CHUCKLES)

It's beautiful, by the way.

(SNORTS, CHUCKLES)

Is that a...

Yes... Dwayne.

Of course I'll marry you.
